dayokanu:
I kinda agree. With boys you just need energy to keep up to their pranks, They are more open and they forgive easily.

With girls they might be easier when young but as they group, their problems multiply.

We have even some women who dread having girls, I have never seen a man who doesnt want male children
Me pls  cheesy and luckily,i am almost done . . .all boys. Thanks be to God.
I just don't want a girl child cos of all the pranks i played on my mum whilst growing up  shocked Ol'boy,i was extremely naughty . . .pretending to be a bad girl, acting preggie, littering my room with stubs of cigar. and all what not.Kai, if i have a girl that took after me,wahala go dey.

How soon do you want a baby after marriage?(please dont answer if you find it too personal smiley ) I asked this because a woman can still make whatever she wants to make out of life a reality if she is really determined.

Women get married whilst in the uni, some people get married after school, some get married before uni, and I must say some have failed in their pursuit of a career(prolly due to family pressure) whilst others stood firm even with pressure and pulled through.

It takes an understanding man to make his wife go through the four walls of the uni and come out of it a success, do you think your hubby would have supported you if you had married in school? or do you think you wouldn't have made it through even with your husbands support?
baby after marriage:i couldn't wait, with immediate effect!I want them fast and done with so we can both enjoy our youth and more esp. grow old with our children.was already some mths gone during my trad.wedding sef  cool  cheesy
I understand some ppl wud prefer spacing, say 2 years after marriage. The reason they give makes sense;they want to have enough times/space form themselves b4 popping the kids.Fair enough.
2.Its never too late to finish school or back to school if you decide to.While i was in nursing school in Nigeria, more than half of us were married and expecting, they all graduated. Its all abt personal decision.
Unis now have Open-Universities and weekend-courses here and there which one can easily enroll. The major drawback is that most ladies tend to become too comfortable in their marriage that they totally forget school. My advice . . .don't leave a good man for a degree, don't forget ur degree cos u a married.
3.Yes,my husband is supportive, extremely.Letting me leave my professional job for a hobby(paid-hobby)lol that is quite not too-accepted but well paying says it all.

also, what about scholarship programs for the best igbo students just like it is done in the north for some students smiley,,, that why the survival of igbo language is ensured wink
Onuku Nsugbe,do they write separate SSCE/WAEC/NECO exams?
1 Nigerian indigenous language is compulsory from Sokoto to Onitsha.
They give scholarships to the best "hausa-language" student in ur village?good for u!

i agree with the movie

but why can't igbo language be a compulsory subject in schools in the east. also, parents should be encouarged to speak igbo to there children

scholarship program for children with good igbo skills should be in place by privte investors

little changes like this will make a big difference wink
Are u saying its otherwise?
I know as at 6 years ago,1 Nigerian local language is compulsory for every school and for those of us that were born in the east,it became automatically Igbo. One of my cousins born and breed in Jos did write Igbo as against Hausa up there in the north. smiley

femmy2010:
Nairalanders,
i would want to hear your verdict on the scenario elaborated below.

I reside in a rented 3 bedroom apartment with my Mom and my younger sister who is in her late twenties.
I was away from home most part of early last year on study purpose and when i got back i saw my room occupied by my My Mom's younger brother, his wife and 4 kids(a 1 month old baby included).
My mom told me that he had some housing problem and he couldn't say no to his request to come and stay till the house he supposed rented and hope to move to would be ready.
I accepted but told my mom i would want them to arrange the 3rd room we hitherto used for storage for them to move to giving them a month notice but instead my mom moved to the store and they moved into my mom's room, but my Brother's wife fumed at this(not to my hearing, but i over heard her complaining bitterly why they had to leave a room with separated bathroom and toilet to go share one with others).
My brother's wife suddenly became a menace to the rest of the house, doing as she like.
Placing things where they should be kept, hardly responding to our greetings, accusing my mom and sister of taken from her soup whenever she was away.
After 7 month(Dec 2010),i told my mom that i have had it and i would want them to move to their own place by February 2011 which my uncle accepted in good faith.
Meanwhile, for the 7 months they were in my place it was my sister and mom that takes care of the kids when they get back from school till their mom comes back from work late in the night  except on Sundays when she stays home.
Last week, she accused my sister of regularly eating the meal she left for the young ones and leaving them to starve so i told her to simply take her kids with her to her shop whenever she is going out since she has the heart to accuse someone that has continually helped with the care of her kids.
3 days ago she left the kids at home and went to her shop and my mom called her to ask why she should leave the kids at home after she was told not to but she abused her, calling her a wicked woman etc.
she did same thing yesterday and when i called her to know why she would forcefully leave the kids at home again without begging those she accused of eating their meal to take care of them, she responded foully.
So i called her husband and told my mom that i have it to my neck and i wanted them to leave the house since the initial tale was they would be staying for a month and now running into the 8th month.
She came back late last night and my mom refused to open the door for her but she broke down the glass entrance door.
The husband came back much later and seeing what she has done asked us not to be angry and to be given time to arrange but the anger in me made me tell them that i am scared to live under the same room with his wife.
This morning they moved their stuff out into the open(still outside now),the husband went out to work and the wife went to God knows where with the kids.
I feel so sad seeing the kids go because i have really come to become very fond of them.

Inbwn,i never took a kobo from them all their stay

Was i wrong to have insisted they leave?

Done is done but i must congratulate you . . .I cant possibly have been so patient and tolerant even If i were single.
You did the right thing,Please don't change your stance . . .they shld go to their own place, period.
Good fences makes good neighbors, break the wall, become too close and familiar u wud lose not just your wall but your neighbor too.
Now cos u want to help u have lost an uncle and your peace of mind.
It seems to me like you just described a normal teenager. How can a child tell me not to discipline him/her. Dont worry about that, by the time I'm done with him/her, they'll know my loff is strong. Every child is going to be rebellious, even if they're biologically or not biologically yours. Adoption does happen in Nigeria (with relatives), we just need to legalize unrelated-adoption. So what about the children without parents out there?

I just dont see the point of having 9 kids, while we have so many stray children looking for a home. If it gets so bad, why not adopt a child you're tribally or regionally connected to.

As for the social welfare issue, a common ground will be met for both parties. I dont believe the social welfare in Nigeria is as strict as the ones here.

Let's think about why we need to do something with child beggars:

1. National problem
2. International reputation
3. Increase of Boko harams
4. Increase of area boys
5. crime rate

etc etc
lmao
Far from reality . . .very far from reality.
Corrective home? Like juvenile detention?

If I'm correct, why would we want to send innocent kids off to that place?
did u read what i posted?
There are currently no functioning corrective homes in naija,Alakara juvenile home serves that purpose. . .correction, education(when ppl foster),accommodation and food.
What im trying to say is simply this:the vices the strt kids pick from the kids are so numerous that they are not picked and taken straight off to an orphanage home or adopted, they are taken first to a corrective home b4 they are either transferred to an orphanage home or left at the Juvenile center and catered for(education etc). The problem they face however,is lack of funds as what they get from the govt is nothing to write home abt.
Kind individuals can go there, pick out a child and decide to foster ie take care of his education, feeding and basic needs.
Giving them out for adoption have been tried in the past and it backfired. The kids come back to the home and u cant force them back.Arrgh . . .u started this adoption issue,i think we are digressing from topic cos street beggars are different from strt kids.
Those Fulani/chad beggars have their parents while strt kids are purely kids without any form of parents, . . .they are littered all over the streets of lagos and home for them is under bridge, stalls, schools etc.
Btwn,when i say kids i mean children above 9.

you can help grown kids by sending them to a corrective home, sadly we hardly have any. .alakara juv. home maybe and foster him/her or get him into an orphanage home and lol only very few homes take grown up kids.babies are more profitable and attract pity_party better.sad though but hope dey!
Politics › Re: Child Beggars On Lagos Street by ifyalways(f): 9:20pm On Jan 12, 2011
@toyin,let me try to explain as much as i can.perharps 'death wish' is a strong word, lets just say stressful and most times does not work out cos of reasons like;high possibility of running back to the strt. when disciplined(if the social welfare gets to know that an adopted child is missing, trust me u wont like what u wud get from them),behavioral and street life problems,u need extra dose of patience, may not fit into ur way of life, values and cos they are used to making decisions for themselves, they tend to be rebellious esp. when they sense u are trying to run their life, they may not offer or reciprocate ur love as they are used to the hard way.anywayz, there might be exceptions though im yet to see or hear of any in naija.i know abt 3 cases sef whereby the kids used their legs to come back to the home from where they were adopted.besides, its even a moot point as i dont know of any welfare office or orphanage home that wud agree to such arrangement(grown kids adoption).

Islam › Re: Duties Of Brotherhood In Islam by ifyalways(f): 10:39am On Jan 12, 2011
babs787:
The third duty concerns the tongue, which should sometimes be silent and at other times speak out.

As for silence, the tongue should not mention a brother's faults in his absence or his presence. Rather should you feign ignorance. You should not contradict him when he talks nor dispute nor argue with him. You should not pry anmd quiz him about his affairs. On seeing him in the street or about some business, you should not start a conversation about the object of your coming and going, nor ask him about his, for perhaps it will be troublesome to him to discuss it or he may have to lie about it.

Keep silent also about the secrets he confides in you, and on no account divulge them to a third party, not even to his closest friends. DO not reveal anything about them, not even after separation and estrangement, for to do so would be meanness of character and impurity of the Inner.

Keep silent from criticism of his dear ones, his family, his children, also from relating other people's criticism of him, for it is your informant who directly abuses you.

Anas said that God's Messegner (saw) never faced anyone with something displeasing to him, for the hurt comes immediately from the informant and only indirectly from the original speaker.
May God help us all.Amin

Dayokanu must be at the sidelines taking notes.
@Topic,Feminism means different things to different people. My grandmother expects her husband to mend the roof, cultivate and give her yam, defend her while she pounds fufu for him daily, cultivate vegetables and take care of the homefront and If grand-dad fails in any of his duties, failing as in just grew lazy overnight she wud refuse to pound fufu or even use s.ex as her weapon . . .does that make her a Feminist  undecided
Feminism def. wont mean same thing for a 35 yr old lady and a 23 year old babe.
Personally,Im not ur modern day feminist . . .old-skool,maybe.
I expect, demand and want the ffg from my man;same as CC listed.

1. Can you tell just by a few minutes after meeting him/her that he/she is the one for you?
No,but there were pointers.

2.Can you tell a husband/wife material just by spending a day/a few hours with them?
same as 1

3.How long do you think a good courtship should last? how long is too long?
It depends. You guys can meet online and be friends for say 2 yrs before u are opportuned to meet real life, then maybe do the real dating for another 2 yrs,wud the first 2 yes count?NO?
Some folks start dating as early as 18 or so,finishing sch. and getting started in life takes quite some time, does it count as too long? No?
IMO,as long as both parties are above 23 esp the girl,5 years shld be maximum.

4.Men/women would you rather be in a 50-50 relationship or have one person play the part of  the "head of the home" ?
Lets not get deceived,Men are still the head of the home.
I refuse to accept this 50/50 thingy, its really twisted and aint helping matters and im specifically referring to 'marriage' . . .you dont expect equal eguations every single day.

For dating . . .each man to his/her own.Nothing is at stake here.

5.Men: Do you think taking money from your GF/wife makes you a lazy person? Especially those in a relationship and not yet married do you really think accepting money from your GF makes you a lesser being?is it right to take money from your GF?
Make Dayokanu come ansa dis one.
I personally never gave any BF cash.If u have financial problems, pls sort urself out somewhere else.I wud give u every other form of support during those hard times but NEVER cash.
Im not against giving either, whatever works for anyone.
I also never asked BF's for cash, wont share my financial problem with u either.I have hands to work.I remember though, when i was in sch.i was selling stuffs and it was sort of affecting our relationship then;i hardly had time for dinners and hanging out,my BF asked and i told him twas cos i have runz to attend to,he was already on his feet so he begged that i let him give me a certain amt each mth so i can stop my runz and spend more time with him i still somehow do my runz.where does that leave me?a leech?lolz
