Nigerins need to start spending in NIGERIA (or atleast Africa) This is why I made my site www.nigerianedp.com
We need to buy art, clothes, products, and do tourism in NIGERIA!! This will boost our economy. This is so frustrating. So much capital is leaving Nigeria, we need more money to stay in Nigeria and not go to Dubai, Europe or America.

From English to kiswahili or whatever it's called. At times I wonder if you africans have scruples at all. Instead of you to be advocating for your language to be chosen you're recommending another person's language. Never in my life will I speak another African language as an official language. When Igbo dey there. Igbo all the way.
Afam my nwanne, I am Igbo as well. But all of Nigeria will not want to speak Igbo, Yoruba, or Hausa. One ethnicity will not want to speak the other language, so why don't we all speak a foreign language that is in Africa like KiSwahili? English is a European language so KiSwahili can be a pan-African language.

@all4naija
I totally agree with you. I don't always blame the west. African leaders need to stand up for their people and go against imperialism like Mugabe. Also many Africans have an inferiority complex which is hurting Africa. They rather buy foreign goods because than domestic goods. They believe anything made in Africa is bad and always go to the west or east. We also go to tourism in everywhere but Africa. This is why I made the Nigerian Economic Development plan. This will promote African goods, clothes, tourism, sports, and art. What do you think about it? www.nigerianedp.com

Religion also makes Africans docile. We wait for sky daddy for everything instead of doing it ourselves. We also worship white men now do to religion because of white jesus. If people want to be christian fine but they should have an African looking Jesus.

You are completely lost. You are still harboring hatred for what took place in the past and use it to judge what is happening or yet to take place. Even most African-Americans will not take side with you on this matter which you are blatantly spewing out in this thread concerning their sufferings during the slavery period. Many forgive and move on. Those who don't find themselves in the state of mental disturbances and labyrinth of hatred.

Meanwhile, I'm not saying the white man is flawless. All I'm saying is that we are aware of these and a fair criticism is not found in violence and hates. White-man-did-this and white-man-did-that cast of mind only prove one thing that we complain a lot instead of forging ahead and do things which are of importance.

Complaining about actors race or color of skin shade is very irrelevant in this sense. If a Nigerian actor is not chosen to take the part in a movie from a story about Nigerians and by a Nigerian is of no consequence. We need to be global in our approach to things. You are entitled to your comments, though, comments bore out of hatred are nothing encouraging to the way others view us around the world.

Your incessant inclusion of unnecessary but excessive rebuttals is alarming to say the least. It only reduces you to anything yet another ignorant black man.

Keep on digging out the old books from their vaults or burial chambers. Please, if you can, try to move along with the world and stop fueling ignorance through hatred and violence!
You act as if the white men are not doing bad things today. Look at what they did to Ivory Coast? They overthrew Gbagbo and put in Outtara to serve western influence. There may be some merit in what Mugabe has said, but when a man like that starts speaking about his ideas, you need to go back to his country to understand how those ideas have worked out for his people.

Of the African leaders you mentioned, only 2 of them (Lumumba and Sankara) stood up to the West IN SUPPORT OF THEIR PEOPLE. Abacha and Mugabe stood up to the West for their own selfish reasons. Their moves did not benefit their people at all. Lumumba and Sankara continue to be idolised by their people while Abacha and Mugabe continue to be hated by their people.

If standing up to the West is your only criterion for greatness, then Idi Amin should be your greatest non-living African!
Mugabe isn't perfect but those sanctions hurt him. Ghaddaffi ws great too. Murtala was great as well. Seems like all the great African leaders die or get overthrown for some reason, hmmm.

Don;t you livei n New Zealand so should you leave? Also France does have a colony right now called the Francophone countries in Africa. They control their econoimes and make a lot o money from them. That is why French had to get Gbagbo out. https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-860098.0.html

But you are right about the west they want a high standard of living which cannot be done forever. There needs to be production and consumption not just consumption. They are going to have austerity measures pretty soon to save money. This welfare state can't last too long. But once the welfare state stops then crime will rise becaue people are too dependant. But America spends too much money on putting people in jail. Most people in jail are there for non violent drug crimes. The prison system is costing America a lot of money. But America loves arresting choc "black" men sad

Factories are leaving Europe and America because it is too expensive. So they go to Asia and Mexico. But all these factories cause major pollution such as in Beijing China. People can barely loive there with all the pollution. So China wants to move some factories to even Africa.

Africa needs to use comparative advantages for what it has now. They should use all the land and train great farmers and get tractors to export alot of food. Also we need to process food to make it to a finished good. We need to make finished goods.

I plan to open up a vocational school in the future for farmers, welders, tailors and other technicians. We need people who will produce things like furniture, clothes, food, etc. The banks can give loans to SME's that produce. Probably factory loans will help Nigeria with less imports. WIth Agriculture alone millions of jobs can be created, we just need funding. America has farm subsidies, without those, their economy may go down because less food higher food price and less disposable income.

We need tractors in Africa in general, we have enough land to export to the world.

I totally agree with you, we need an enabling environment not an environment working against you.

With leaders who serve the people will come opportunities for people to do great things. If all theAfrican corrupt leaders put their looted money into African banks then this can lead to economic growth because busnesses can grow due to loans. Here are the things that we need:
1. Power: With power we will be able to start to manufacture products and make our own products instead of importing everything,
2. Roads: with a good road network then trasnporting things will be better. Also with all these death trap roads, morel ives will be saved.
3. Hospitals: Our hospitals aren't the best. Once we have great hospitals this can be a great industry. many nigerians go abroad for treatment when we should be treated in Nigeria
4. Schools: Our schools must teach everyon their true GREAt history and how much we did for this world. We must teach religion and ethnic tolerance and teach the kids how much bad things the Europeans have done and how we shouldn't trust foreignors. We should trust ourselvse more. Tis inferiority complex is hurting Nigeria's economy. if nobody will by Nigerian goods then Nigerians won't open up Nigerian businesses. All this importing is very bad, we should make our own things.
5. Military: We need a great military that puts a lot of money into making great weapons and planes to defend ourselves or Africa in general.
Those are in no order but with all of that Nigeria will be a haven. Too many foreign investors are coming to Africa for business, Africans need to invest in each other and buy each other's products. We need to go to tourism within Africa!!

We can't build on anything paranoid. I know Africans love putting blame on the west. But if the so called west exploit us its cz we allowed them to.
Our governing systems are weak so why blame the west when we are the architects of our disaster. angry
They are the ones who input dicatators like Mubuto, Comapre, or Outtara and back them up with weapons and troops. Look at what happened to Ivory Coast. Unless all Africans around Africa do this and do an African spring then it will keep on happening.
I also think religion and our inferiority complex is playing a role in our demise of Africa. We buy everything foreign and don't produice anything. We rather buy gucci or dolce and gabana instead of wearingAfrican clothes. We go outside of Africa for tourism instead of going within Africa. Religion makes us wait for sky daddy to save us instead of saving ourselves.

Foreign AffairsRe: Why are Africans ignorant abt Africa by igbo2011(m): 7:14am On Feb 02, 2012
Tribes tribes are progress killer no. one. We want our our tribe to rule,to prosper to own wealth. Its got nothing to do with personal developments but tribal advancements. The day wel start thinking beyond tribes is the day we can confidently talk about a united Africa.
Did you say swahili? yes its spoken in EA. It unites the East. Is there a language which unites the west? What about South? Do you believe that a common language will unite us and make us to progress,if the poverty/struggling mentality remains the same?
Our Trading rules, policies, laws must be relaxed to make it easier for Africans to trade with one another.Blocs are trying but not enough.
KiSwahili needs to just be spoken all over Africa. As long as it is an African language I don't care. We need to have it as our first language then we can speak our tribal language then English and others. The language will help us communicate with each other and we have more things in common. The African Union needs to unite as one to one country then we need to redo the entire map of Africa into tribal lands where everyone will agree. We can no longer fight over resources because at the end of the day we don't benefit from them. The country will have no trade tarriffs so we can do more intraafrican trade.

I also think religion is holding us back. I made a thread about that: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-856194.0.html
Do you think that Muslim nigerians see white people differently than Christian Nigerians? The white image of Jesus almost makes Christians worship. Whites to some sort. Instead of solving our problems we pray. How long have we been praying for? If you are goingg to pray fine but also do actions. The occupy Nigeria movement was a great start. We need to finish up.

Nigeria is set to be a top 10 country by 2040. There was a study by citybank and they said nigeria will be number 6 by 2040. The west doesn't want a black nation as top 10 they want white supremacy. So they will do what they can to disunite nigeria. They want what happened in sudan to happened to nigeria. They want the chinese out. But chinas influence is growing if you look at what they just built for the AU but the thing is that china shouldn't be trusted as well. They have funded rebel groups and bad dictators before but they are better than the west. They haven't overthrown or killed any african leaders. China doesn't mind bringing africa up along with standrd of living but the west wants to keep africa down because if raw material extraction becomes too expensive then they are out of luck. But the thing is the america and britain teamed up with france to keep africa down. I am afraid that china and the west MAY team up and that could lead to a genocide of africans. China has done bad things to tibet and the british did a ge nocide by dehumanizing the native americans. They are already dehumanizing us saying we have no history and are savages. They only portry us badly sso when they do thei evils then it will be justified.

We need to rust each other africans need to invest in africa we should do busuness with each other. Help each other get up. If all of africa u ited like gaddaffi wanted we would be a top 10 economy. But a nigerian break up would be bad then it is easier to control. America is abou to attac0k iran. They can do the same to nigeria. As soon as goodluvk does his own thinng then we can be attacked in the name of humanitarian intervention. Remember the west has no permamnent friends but permanent interests. They will turn on you very fast. South america is united. We need to unoite under kiswahili so we can face oiur common enemy. South america used to be like africa but they have no more puppets. Chavez morales and correa said no to imperialism. The only anti imperiaist we have is mugabe. We also have. A abd military we cannot defend ourselves but south america can

There is a huge deficit in continental awarness that stems from a lack of incorporating continental subject matters into educational curriculums to develop knowledge of Africans in general which would strengthen ties amongst the populous. Emphasis continues to be put on our differences rather than what we have in common. This fact, coupled with an ongoing country by country struggle of national identity hinders regional and continental integration. This is where I believe the problem lies.

A solution would be to revamp the current educational curriculums to incorporate subject matters that deal with general continental and regional issues from the primary up to tertiary levels of education and fostering exchange programs that move students through different countries and learning experiences. This is in line with how globally connected the world and indeed Africa is moving towards.

It is difficult to start from a fresh template of political or economic thought processes when most of your systems and structures have been borrowed or indoctrinated into 1st and 2nd world global systems that have not really taken into account the dynamism of African socio-political issues. We can develop ourselves and indeed we are striving to do so. What we struggle with is the methodology to adopt that will indeed fit in with our social values , structures and complexities.

Many continue to advocate a complete diassociation from western institutions, western values and western economic models. If we are to follow this path then what alternate models do we build our economic systems on and how do we attempt to integrate these new found models into global structures as it is near impossible to exist without some sort of cooperation with the rest of the planet. We cannot be isolationist in the long term as this will undoubtedlly prove unsustainable.

There are several regional trade blocs that are currently fine tuning custom unions and tarrif free movements of goods and services which are mainly eas Africa's COMESA and southern Afirca's SADC, little can be said about ECOWAS for now. These economic integration policies are sure to boost regional trade and inter Africa trade as well. The stumbling block lies with governments strugglling with natinoal interets over a cohesive regional strucutre that is advantageious to all within that bloc.

Its happending but its not happening fast enough.

The other school of thought hopes to build on already existing systems borrowed from western societies in terms of laissze affair private owned Capitalist models that feel that government is incapabel of driving efficiency in business and the emrging state capitalit model dominant in the Eastern part of the world that is hybrid of socialist and communist ideologies fused with capital controlled by the state. the idea is to modify these philosophies to fit African contexts. The new information and semantic age we are evolving into requires new thought processes against the old rhetoric of seperate and equalize.
Very true we need our own homegrown system like Jacob Zuma said. THis system will be by Africans for our culture. I think a mix of capitalism with state influence to boosting production will help. This system can make sure that we don't import everything and start supporting our own companies.
