A final year student of Ebonyi State University was allegedly shot dead yesterday night by suspected armed robbers.

The criminals stormed the hostel of the students which is located at ishieke campus around 1am. The armed robbers robbed the students their valuables, like phones and laptops.

According to an eyewitness who narrated what happened to our correspondent, revealed that the final year student who is studying Business education named Chiboy tried to hit one of the robbers when they were about going to the next room when one of robbers shot him death immediately.

It’s too late for Igbo to pull out of Nigeria – Igbo lawmaker

A Lagos lawmaker, Mr Jude Idimogu, on Saturday, said it was too late for the Igbo nation to pull out of Nigeria. Idimogu, representing Oshodi/Isolo Constituency II in the Lagos State House of Assembly, told newsmen in Lagos that secession would be injurious to the Igbos. He said: “As a full blooded Igbo man and a Nigerian, I believe, Igbo staying in Nigeria as an entity will prosper the Igbo nation better than pulling out. “After the 1967 Civil war, the Igbo man started all over again to build up; now Igbo nation has made progress in terms of economy and politics.
“Though the Igbo nation has not reached where it is expected to be politically, we should dialogue rather than be creating war scenarios. ‘’It is too late to pull out (of Nigeria), Igbo nation has united Nigeria because they have businesses everywhere in this country,” the lawmaker said. The lawmaker urged Mr Nnamdi Kanu, the Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to rescind from any action that could create enmity against Igbos around the country. He urged the Igbo nation to unite with other ethnic groups in the country to articulate their grievances and actualised their dreams. “My children were born in Lagos and some of them don’t even know their state of origin, they speak Yoruba and so many Igbo children are like that across the North and West.

“We have our future in Nigeria. The only thing Igbo nation should fight for is political power not by creating war scenario but by merging with other nations/tribes in Nigeria – the Northerners and Westerners. “Most Igbos, over 50 per cent, don’t even believe in Biafra because they have counted the cost from 1970 after the war till 2017. No one wants to go back to square one; it is not possible. “As a person, I am against it; what the Igbo man should struggle for in this entity are equality, fairness and justice, not pulling out. “It is very late to pull out, it will be difficult because majority of us are not ready to fight any war; I don’t want to lose my life nor my sons and daughter in war; I believe we can make Nigeria our home,’’ he said. According to him, even if the Igbo nation wants to pull out of Nigeria, it is not going to be overnight or by aggression, rather it should be via a friendly and democratic process. “Kanu should calm down, unite with Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a tree cannot make a forest,” the lawmaker said. Newsmen report that there had been several agitations by IPOB for a Sovereign State of Biafra, the development that lead to the proscription of the group.

The Tin-Can Island Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intercepted 2,671 pump action rifles imported from Turkey through profiling approach.

The Comptroller-General of NCS, Retired Col. Hameed Ali, told journalists in Lagos on Thursday that the seizure was the fourth at the Lagos port within eight months.

He said that “following increased arms seizures in recent times, the Customs Area Controller of Tin-Can Port, Comptroller Yusuf Bashar, ordered a detailed profile of all imports, especially those coming from Turkey.

“Customs decided to follow profiling approach of 100 per cent examination on containers, especially those from Turkey.

“Tin-Can Customs command intercepted another 20ft container No CMAUI817/8 containing 470 pump action rifles immediately the container landed from the port of origin to Nigerian ports.

“The terminal operator was consequently directed to quarantine the container for analysis.

“The container was later transferred to Enforcement Unit of the command where 100 per cent examination revealed it contained 470 pump action rifles.”

Ali said that the Bill of Lading of the container indicated Elbow Plumbing Plastics.

According to him, the importer of the cargo is Great Oil and Gas Ltd and the vessel
named “MV Arkas Africa” owned by Hull Blyth.

He added that NCS would now be responsive and capable of meeting the challenges being posed and
urged Nigerians to “remain vigilant to deal with enemies of the country.”

The comptroller-general assured Nigerians that Customs officers were now on alert, following the directive he issued to customs area controllers on Wednesday.

He said the management of NCS had implemented a policy of rewarding good deeds and
punishment for those who compromised.

He announced that he would meet with the ambassador of Turkey to discuss the continuous importation of containers of ammunition into Nigeria.

Customs would continue to subject all containers to 100 per cent examination “to safeguard lives
of citizens.
“Customs has to go beyond examination because none of the importers has come to pay duties on those vehicles intercepted in August.

“Some of the vehicles are customised..What we are after is to collect duties on any vehicle coming into the country.

“Section 147 of Customs & Excise Management Act (CEMA) gives right to Customs to enter any premises even without search warrant.

“Also, Section 158 of CEMA gives Customs the right to stop and search at any time.”

He, however, noted that since the container belonged to same importer of 1,100 refiles intercepted on Sept.11, investigation was ongoing to fish out those connected with it.

Goodluck Jonathan has issued a statement condemning Lai Mohammed accusation that opposition party is the one sponsoring Nnamdi Kanu and IPOB members. The Ex-President issued the statement through his Facebook Wall.. Read below
Lai Mohammed, Leave Former President Jonathan Out of Your Tales by Moonlight on IPOB
The insinuations in the press conference given by Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, on Sunday the 17th of September 2017, accusing the opposition of sponsoring the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and the fact that he mentioned that Nnamdi Kanu preached Nigerian unity during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan is another clear indication that the present administration has not left propaganda mode for proper agenda mode two and a half year into their tenure.
If the government in which Lai Mohammed serves, knows which opposition members are sponsoring IPOB, then they should identify them, arrest them and then prosecute them.
Ever since Lai Mohammed made his ill advised statement, a principal member of the All Progressive Congress government and the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, has come out to say that the actions in the Southeast are troubling and some of it are unconstitutional. Is he also sponsoring IPOB too?
It is our suspicion that Lai Mohammed is talking from history seeing as he criticized the Jonathan government for banning Boko Haram in a statement he released on June 10, 2013, even though the Jonathan government had gone through due process before proscribing that murderous sect.
Perhaps Lai Mohammed thinks everybody is like him and those he represents.
I also commend the governors of the Southeast for cooperating with the military and in the process saving lives and property. It is a noble act that should not be ignored.
However, we want to advise the Buhari administration, which has announced plans to extend the military show of force to the Southsouth and the Southwest through Operation Crocodile Smile, to thread with caution.
Nigeria is no longer under military rule. In a democracy, you separate the military from the police. The military is not meant to fight criminality within a nation because they are trained to fight a nation’s external enemies.
It is the police that are trained to fight crime Internally.
When the military starts doing the job of the police and starts fighting or doing what they call a ‘show of force’, the effect will not be to reduce crime. The effect will be to intimidate people.
Let me say again to Lai Mohammed, the time for propaganda is gone. The time for blaming Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for all the unfulfilled promises of the APC government is over. Nigerians are no longer buying it.
Rome may not have been built in a day, but from day one you could see evidence of builders building up Rome. But what have we seen in the last two and a half years of the Muhammadu Buhari administration? We see a government that from day one has been blaming instead of building.
Finally, I seize this opportunity to remind Lai Mohammed that under the Jonathan administration the ministry of information had annual ministerial briefing where the media and civil society groups interrogated cabinet ministers on the activities of their departments. 100 days briefing was given to Nigerians on the government’s vision and one year briefings was given to the nation on government activities. An elaborate mid term briefing was also given by that government to the country on the achievements of the administration.
Lai Mohammed should think about these as information minister and should know that he is minister for information not minister for propaganda.
