Family / Re: Should I End My Marriage by IgboGirl(f): 10:02pm On Aug 21, 2012
@OP

Your wife deceived you and you have every right to take whatever action you deem necessary. One would imagine at 36 she would be willing to compromise in a marriage. You've played your part, you've compromised when she wasn't willing to so it's time for you make the best decision for you.

And for those saying religion is not a big deal in marriage, you are wrong!

@Kobojunkie
You seem to be all over this thread. You're even more invested in it than the OP. smh!

deshclones: O boy your story dey somehow....comeooo...must she school abroad?what about all the good federal unis in naija??...nawaoh..methinks its better to be a lion in the jungle than a dog in the city....let her kuku take the 3.1 result or repeat the year....thats the kind of stuff ones sees in a foreign land...kpele

you cant help it...97% of NLanders me inclusive will derail...live with it.

What good federal unis in naija? Is it the ones that are losing their accreditations? Or the ones that strike every month making students to spend 10+ years in school? Please do tell what school in Nigeria lets you go in for a 4yr program and you graduate within 4yrs. The medical schools are nothing to write home about. Those that haven't lost their accreditation do not have the basic technology to train outstanding medical doctors.
OP's sister may be suffering but her situation is still better than situation of students in Nigeria who can only pass a course if they willingly bribe their lecturers that's also after wasting 10 years of their lives in school (thanks to ASUU strike) for a 5yr program.

Travel / Re: Nigerians have good jobs in UK (enough Of Sad Stories) by IgboGirl(f): 8:02pm On Aug 12, 2012
OP

Why do you even bother? You don't need to prove anything to folks in Nigeria. No matter the type of job we do here abroad we are still better off. What is the minimum wage in Nigeria? A sh1t packer or yansh cleaner in UK or US still earns more than a teacher or what have you in Nigeria. Nigerians in Nigeria laugh at our jobs here abroad because they know despite how degrading the job is we still earn more than their so called high level jobs. And to top it off, the petty jobs we do don't require us to have a bachelor's degree but to be a maid or driver in Nigeria applicant must have a bachelor's degree lol what a shame!

I will rather be a middle class in US than be an upper class in Nigeria! The quality of life in Nigeria sucks!

I definitely support the idea of a charity organization (sorry, I'm late but I am just seeing this for the first time). Is this a registered organization?
Nairaland / General / Re: Please Help Nairalander Perx - And She Went Home: RIP Perx by IgboGirl(f): 4:38am On Jan 28, 2012
I am really moved by the charity work you all are doing on here. I rarely logon or visit nairaland and when I do visit, I just luck around and read posts but I had to login today after reading about Perx's story to express how proud of you all I am and I will definitely love to be a part of this great work.
I wish I knew when you all helped out Mr. Obuh, would have loved to help. I read his story and saw pics of his shop/current condition, I wept tears of joy. May God continue to bless you all!

Please is there a paypal information for members living in USA? I saw a pic of excel spreadsheet of members that paid through paypal for Mr. Obuh's case and they were all in pounds. I wondered if members that live in America do not make charity contribution or maybe their payment was not posted.

Anyway, paypal information, please!

Great job, guys!
Education / Re: Education Minister Implies That Nigerian Graduates Are A Burden To The Society by IgboGirl(f): 11:24pm On Aug 16, 2011
Doesn't one need education to gain the entrepreneurial skills she's talking about? The education system in Nigeria is a joke! She's blaming the wrong people. Nigerian graduates are product of Nigeria failed education so the education they received should be blamed because it failed to give them entrepreneurial skills.

Princek12:

I did not generalize Ibos because of one woman. I asked a question about how Ibos think based on the woman said and what other Ibos I know have said.

I guess the truth is bitter, but it must be said.

You didn't generalize but yet you believe your thread is speaking the truth?
Don't hide behind a meaningless question, just say what's really on your mind.

Culture / Re: "Igbo" is to "Yoruba". "Ibo" is to "Yorooba" by IgboGirl(f): 7:09pm On May 10, 2011
percipi1:

I do not see any reason why the spelling or pronunciation of an ethnic group should be an issue. Most Probably, most of us had western education where a red skin is described as a white skin, yet we accepted that without questioning why a brown skin is classified as black.

My friends, its all in our head. However, for one to accept the contention that "Ibo" is not the correct spelling, the person making the correction must show us the basis. Is he/she an authority in Igbo studies or what is his/her status in relation to ethnic studies.

As far as I am concerned, "Ibo" is simply a variation of "Igbo" please see From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"Igbo people, also referred to as the Ibo, Ebo, Eboans or Heebo (Igbo: Ndị Igbọ) are an ethnic group living chiefly in southeastern Nigeria. They speak Igbo, which includes various Igboid languages and dialects;[20] today, a majority of them speak English alongside Igbo as a result of British colonialism"

The same source quoted above defined the Yorubas as follows:"The Yoruba people (Yorùbá in Yoruba orthography) are one of the largest ethnic groups in West Africa. The majority of the Yoruba speak the Yoruba language (Yoruba: èdèe Yorùbá; èdè). The Yoruba constitute between 30 and 50 million individuals throughout West Africa and are found predominantly in Nigeria with around 21 percent of its total population."

We can see from the above that Yoruba was written as "Yoruba" therefore , it can be concluded that spelling yoruba in another form is wrong and inapplicable as it fails to measure up to its internationally accepted spelling. However, spelling "Igbo" as "Ibo or Ebo" is acceptable .

Be that as it may, if a person of an Igbo ethnic origin feels that the globally accepted spelling of igbo as ibo or ebo is not correct, then I venture to say that this is not the correct channel to make such amendment. I will advise such person to write to Wikipedia which is considered a good authority on this matter.

By the way, friends, avoid using pedestrian words against each other, we should be people of dignity and good bred.

You are using wikipedia as your source? Is the writer of wikipedia Igbo, studied Igbo history or took an Igbo class? If you really want to know why it's IGBO instead of Ibo then go study Igbo aphabet.
Culture / Re: "Igbo" is to "Yoruba". "Ibo" is to "Yorooba" by IgboGirl(f): 6:30pm On May 10, 2011
I really don't care that much about non-Igbos calling/typing Ibo, the one that annoys me the most is when Igbos call/type Ibo. They should be ashamed!

Romance / Re: Choose: Me Or Your Mother?! by IgboGirl(f): 8:23pm On Dec 17, 2010
Those attacking this thread are missing the point. Are you all suggesting that it is ok for a man to want a woman or insist for his woman to do things exactly like his mom's? If he wants a carbon copy of his mom (which is impossible) then he should forget about finding a woman outside his family cos no woman raised in another home will do things exactly how his mom does them. His woman has a mother too who raised her up and taught her things different. Besides, she has a father too! So, is it ok for the woman to insist that her man do things exactly the way her father does them?

I don't remember stating what part of IGBO I am from on here. So, why would you assume I am from Anambra? Unless you assume same for every IGBO person you come in contact with? Hmmm!

And no, they are not the same, they are pronounced/spelt differently so please get it right. It is IGBO not Ibo!

Are some of you nairalanders for real?? Shouldn't you be asking the poster if he himself is for real? Why would any respectful man in a relationship be admiring other girls and even have the audacity to walk up to talk to them while his fiance waits? The poster is disrespectful to his girlfriend and their relationship. He is obviously telling the grilfriend that she is not good enough for him. You cheat on a girl and then you turn around and accuse her of not caring for you enough cos she didn't stop you from cheating. Some of you are bunch of lames and I feel sorry for girls that tolerate such nonsense from men.

Silvaspecs, what goes around comes around! Don't be shocked when your girlfriend starts admiring other men and asks you to wait for her while she chats up with them.

@ poster
don't forget the Nigeria men that travel to the village to marry wives then bring them abroad and force them to become nurses while the men lazy around in the house doing absolutely nothing. or the ones that kill their wives.
the only thing Nigerian men are good at is 419 and kidnapping
