Truth of the matter is that Ogun and the entire SW is a very highly indebted region with nothing to back up the debt. |

The Ogun State chairman of the National Association of Nigerian Students, Dotun Opaleye, and Tai Solarin College of Education, TASCE, Students’ Union President, Dairo Ibrahim have led students of the institution to the Oke Ilewo Abeokuta secretariat of the Nigerian Union of Journalists to protest the non-payment of lecturers’ salaries. They accused the Amosu-led government of neglecting the institution as lecturers have not been paid for 14 months. Placards they bore had different inscriptions such as, ‘Amosun restore education at TASCE’, ‘Please we students are suffering in TASCE’ among others. Details to follow shortly. https://www.newsbreak.ng/2016/06/ogun-students-protest-amosuns-alleged-neglect-tasce/ |
ODVanguard:Ogun is oweing civil servants 14 months salary as of March this year. I'm yet to see news of where she cleared those backlogs of debt. Paying August salaries doesn't erase nada. |
DANGOTE’S SOLID MINERAL REVENUE HIGER THAN THE REST OF NIGERIA "Dangote Group, owned by Aliko Dangote, generates more mineral resource revenue for the government than the rest of the nation put together. In 2013, the group was responsible for 53 percent of the government revenue, that is, N15.9 billion of the total N33.86 billion accrued that year.". Revenue in question was generated by Dangote, who happened to have cited his industry in Ogun for obvious reasons, as Ogun is not the only site in Nigeria with limestone deposits. How exactly this translates to Ogun contribution to FG is still funny to me. |
OGUN, KOGI LEADING IN ROYALTY PAYMENT "Ogun and Kogi states led the pack for housing companies that make the highest amount of royalty payment to the federal government, while Kebbi and Taraba states came in at the bottom of the table as shown below. Ten states made no such royalty payment in the year under review". Companies domiciled in Ogun, not owned by Ogun, generated the royalty being talked about here. And they were only domiciled in Ogun because of Oguns proximity to Lagos, the gateway of the country that has held monopolistic grip on the port entry into the country. This only reaffirms my point that Lagos port is not a SW contribution, rather it's a SW gain from one Nigeria. Being the gateway to the most populous black nation on earth. It won't be the same should Nigeria disintegrate. |
OmoAjowa7:You owe some one for more than six months, and suddenly pays one month, which happens to be the most recent month, how exactly that translates to being debt free is still what I'm scratching my bald hair to understand. http://nigeria.shafaqna.com/EN/NG/2687039 |
I refuse to see how monies generated from Lagos port amounts to SW contribution to Nigeria, it would have been so if SW was the only coastal region such ports could have been built. I think the SW through the port constructed there using the revenue generated from the rest of the country are actually parasitic to the rest of the country, as they had enjoyed undue monopolistic advantage as the gateway to the nation and the foreign investments that comes with such. SW hosting the port is not a contribution, it's a gain she is gaining from Nigeria's unity and stands to lose should the country disintegrate. Same applies to MMIA. Though I think this had been tackled before in a counter thread, so I feel to understand why the Yorubas are jumping up here, expecting Ndiigbo to waste precious time on an issue we had already tackled. |

Yet, Ogun can't pay salaries. Who is deceiving who. ![]() |
Eastlink:Nna, leave that matter for Matthias for now. We have common foe, ie the North and their Yoruba Muslim brothers. No need splitting hairs over irrelevant semantics for now. Whether Niger Delta or Eastern region, we are all saying same thing. If you put just Eastern region, you exclude the Western Igbos, if you put just Niger Delta, you exclude Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi. So, you see, it doesn't matter either of the terms we use, what matters is that we establish the fact that the Yorubas and the North had always been lacking, which is why they are still clinging unto Nigerian unity till today. Udo. |
Raziii:Apart from the returnee Brazilians who stationed in Lagos and integrated as Yorubas. There was never a time Yorubas were ahead of Ndiigbo in Education in Nigeria. The Early advantage the Saros and Brazilians conferred to Yorubas was obliterated by Ndiigbo as early as 50's. And since then, Ndiigbo have been on the fore front of education in Nigeria. Enough if this Yoruba and Education lies. ![]() |
mrvitalis:Very myopic Post. California was never the capital of USA, she doesn't have monopolistic grip on the sea port system of USA, she doesn't host the headquarters of oil giants operating in Texas. |
jneutron4000:Cocoa became Western Nigeria major source of income, after independence, but even that was debatable, as some had argued that rubber mainly from the Midwest area was the real forex earner for the region. Either way., Western region Cocoa was strictly for Western region, they fed no one else, they only paid their loyalty to the FG, like the the Eastern region and Northern region did. Moreover, Cocoa was also produced in Cross Rivers and Northern Abia parts of the Eastern region, but not in the scale it was produced in Western region, just as Western region Palm produce were not in the scale as produced in the Eastern region and mid western parts. |
timeman:Quit hiding your ignorance behind vague posts. If you have a point/ information relevant to the discussion, bring it out now or forever remain silent. |
Lushore1:No. As of the time in discuss, there was no Western region or Eastern region. It was Bourdillon in 1939 that created those regions. But the Palm oil were produced in areas of the pre 1906 Southern Nigeria ie SS and SE, that eventually became Mid west and Eastern region. You can't use because Bourdillon added the part of the Southern Nigeria known as the Midwest into your Lagos colony, to create western region in 1939, to now claim the Palm oil produced by the Mid westerners. |
VulgarVulvas:My brother, wonders shall never end in this NL. |
VulgarVulvas:Chai! ![]() |
So this arisbisala is Jarus and also Omonnakoda all these while? Choi! Ndia etee ose, tee ugba! |
VulgarVulvas:Cool. And the point about how Lagos railway was built by robbing the Southern protectorate( SE and SS) right after Egerton merged us with Lagos colony( SW) was well highlighted in this discussion between Obiagu1 and PhysicsQED on this thread. https://www.nairaland.com/1019602/dont-blame-1914-amalgamation-rather/2 Lagos was only able to expand her railway and her ports after that 1906 merging. The SS and SE were robbed in day light by that single move. That move also sealed Calabar's fate forever. |
By the way, that Palm oil was shipped through Lagos port, does not in any mean that they were produced in SW. Only just a few part of Ondo were Palm oil producing, and it would even appear that that part was part of the Southern Nigeria, before the 1906 Egerton amalgamation. |
Adminisher:Western region started existing from 1939. As at the time of that publication, there was no Western region. Until 1906, Southern Nigeria= SS plus SE. |
While I have no beef with the self determination rights of South Easterners, I believe that Biafra should not be seen as a utopia. Things WILL NOT EVEN BE NEAR OKAY. That dream of perfection is only a delusion especially if other tribes are going with Biafra, of which I know my Urhobo won't. The only thing that'll likely change is that Igbos will be in power & even this change will be at the detriment of other ethnic group and thus, a new Nigeria will evolve. If Igbos are patient enough and their leaders become smart and calculative, they can actually win the presidency in Nigeria and become much more relevant like they want. No. Ndiigbo don't care about what you think about viability of Biafra, we are doing much better than your group in Nigeria, and would do many times better outside Nigeria. We would appreciate if you save this your ignorant advice for yourself and your group, as you don't see Ndiigbo dishing out advices to you lots. Nigerian presidency won't stop the Igbo yearnings for a state of ours, totally and completely free of Yoruba and Northern influence and presence. Ndiigbo are open to the idea of a success driven state between her and related and neighboring groups in the defunct Eastern region, but she is also determined to go at it alone, if those groups prefer to stay in Nigeria, or fight for their own independent states. |
1. Igbos will take over the position of Hausa as exploiters, leeches, and power hungry dogs. Other so called tribes and even Igboid minorities will complain and start advocating for their own country. Soon enough, Biafra will divide and a civil war will ensue. Take a cue from South Sudan on this. This is only a figment of your delusional imagination, it's a reflection of your wish which is ok, as long as we understand it as such and not as reality. 1. Biafra will not be structured like Nigeria. It was Will structured in such a way that each province controls her resources and pay tax to the central government. There is nothing whatsoever in history to suggest that Ndiigbo are not capable of living in harmony with her non Igbo neighbors, our co existence with them both in pre colonial Nigeria and in Eastern region, has been that of harmonious and cordial co existence . The idea of a Biafra dividing into fragments is more or less what is to be expected of Odualand, if we put into consideration their historical antecedents as etched in Operating wetie, and the Kiriji battles. It rather paints a picture of people that were incapable of evolving beyond their primordial instincts of expansionism. This is not something you find in Igbo history. 2.Corrupt leaders are already in everywhere in Nigeria, Biafra can't be any worst than Nigeria, so you have no point here. 3. The natural resources ie Crude oil and natural gas in Abia, Imo, Anambra, Anioma, Oyigbo, Etche and Egbema will provide to Biafra more than she currently receives as monthly allocation from the FG. The greatest resources of the Igbo is her high quality of human resources, that alone will see us through once good government policies are set in place to harness. Moreover, Nigeria has access to all the crude oil wealth of all the places you mentioned, including those in Igbo speaking territories, yet she is still a failed state. I reckon Biafra can't do worst. Bottom line : Crude oil never guarantee the greatness of any nation. Human resources and the citizens patriotism are what build great nations. You need them both to extract the mineral resources, add value to them, sale and invest the proceeds in uplifting the people out of poverty. Human resources and Patriotism are two most abundant resources in Biafra. And by the way, how exactly is it your headache if the Igbo nation succeeds or fails? Nah so you love us reach? As bad as you think South Sudan is, the people would not trade their freedom by rejoining North sudan, freedom is priceless, and has no monetary equivalence. 4. This is another bullcrap. It never happened in the Eastern region, never happened in short-lived Biafra, it simply has no historical antecedent and is in direct head on collision with the Igbo belief in equity and fairness as represented by " Ofor/ Oho na Ogu". So I will chuck this one off as one of those your wishful hallucinations borne out of hatred and desire to see the Igbo fail rather than spending such energy and time in advancing the growth and development of your own people. 5. Sure there might be such mistrusts, gosh! Even in families, siblings do rival each other, but it's always on low danger scales. It won't lead to killings. It would always be resolved in roundtables and will end up being resolved by peaceful negotiations as enshrined in the Igbo republican and democratic traits infused into our genes by our evolved ancestors. It won't be like in Nigeria, where it all ends in killings. Moreover, it's dumb of you bringing up this point, since it's already present in Nigeria in grand scale and can't be worst in Biafra with unified religious and cultural ties. 6. This is exactly what will happen to your Nigeria, you are simply projecting your fears on Biafra. Ndo. Biafra member states will join the union voluntarily, and since the Union will not be built on parasitism, the states will also reserve the rights to secede once critical criteria are met, as their withdrawal won't affect the remaining states, since the remaining states were not parasites on the seceding one. |
How can a Yoruba man say that Igbo language is nasalized? This is the joke of the century. The one reason why I hate Yoruba language is that it's over nasalized. Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with a Yoruba mind, it accuses people of everything it is many times guilty of. |

Use to think that "Oyibo" is just a Northern and Western Igbo usage, well, just found out that Ogba in Rivers state, which should fall under southern Igbo uses "Oyibo" too. As of 1928, Ogba had an age grade called Elu-Oyibo. Check it out here: http://ogbakingdom.com/age-grade-2/ Number 31 there. |
lawani:Oh, look, he not only suffers from delusions of grandeur, he also has anger issues. I see. Now, listen carefully. Your Yoruba group were savages, that couldn't evolve to learn simple things as living in peace with one another. You were picked off by Dahomey women and then by Fulanis. Your Oyo ile capital was ransacked by your northern masters and you retreated. more southern. Your mud house village empire lost Ilorin to the Fulanis who subjugated and still rule your people over there till today. Your Ife arts were no match to Igbo Ukwu ones, you were but a primitive people that know not your place in history. Now let that sink in. Good, now we can go back to the Oyinbo/ Oyibo discussion. ![]() |
lawani:Now, this was clearly written by a mind suffering from grandiose delusions. Yorubas are a funny bunch, they never stop to amaze me with this their claim to civilization. The same people that couldn't evolve enough to live in Peace with each other, but were busy fighting tribal fights like savages so much that they needed and gladly welcomed the white man to colonize them, if only to bring Peace to their region. This your post coming from same Yorubas I described above, linking Ndiigbo to Koma tribe is quite comical, and I would advise you thread carefully from here onwards, cause actions often elicit reactions and in a blink of an eye, this thread goes south and end up in tribalism section. |
lawani:I don't know where you are driving at. I know for certain that Yorubas say Oyinbo and Oyibo. Oyibo was derived from the word " Onye eboe" and is said to be rooted in slavery. Oyibo is an an Igbo word. And was not in anyway adopted by Ndiigbo from Yorubas. I would even argue that Yorubas adopted it from Igbos. |
