izac82:So Slayerforever, create the account. I would prefer Facebook page though. But I'm still okay with Telegram or Whatsapp. Make it a closed group, vet anyone who wants to join properly. |
JANK23H:Says the fish brained man who was quoting a document that never mentioned Bonny as his proof of Jos pirates being Indigenous in Bonny. Dude I already have a good measure of your intelligence, and it wasn't up to scratch. |
JANK23H:Sierra Leone names. Chukwu aju! I will name you Nwakpuda, when I picture you, I picture a typical charcoal black and short in height with not so good looking facial features Bayelsa man. So yeah Nwakpudasounds just about right. |
DitariDisciple2:Don't worry about that. They will still join. Our aim is to make sure they remain eligible to join at the right time. To do that, they have to stay Igbo speaking as mother tongue. |
JANK23H:They still speak Igbo bro. You have not succeeded yet, Alagoa is already old, this was a lifetime project for him, and he is about dying with no success in sight. So yeah, don't count your chicks before they hatch. Even with the advantage of single story Alagoa enjoyed since 1970, OPOBO and Bonny Indigenes retained their Igbo language. Imagine what happens once we provide a rebuttal to challenge his falsehood? ![]() |
sinteiking:To be Igbo in post civil war NIGERIA is not easy. It comes with Political disfranchisement. Even obviously Igbo speaking groups like Etche, Ekpeye, Ikwerre, Ogba, and Ndoni will not come out to shout that they are Igbo, but you expect Bonny and Opobo to do so? We don't want them to shout they are Igbo, we want them to retain the Igbo language their Bonny Igbo ancestors bequeathed them, we want them to remain Bonny and Opobo ethnic nationality for now. We have no problem with them being part of IYC and INC, because we understand that both organizations are just Political Franchise that anyone can join. What we don't want is them throwing away who they are by adopting an alien Kalabari language, without having full information on how their Igbo Bonny kings and ancestors tried hard to bequeath them that language as legacy and the error they would have committed by not preserving it by falling preys to manipulations from Bayelsans. |
sinteiking:Ohanaeze Ndiigbo is not a franchise like Ijaw. The criteria to join Ohanaeze Ndiigbo is that the group has to be speaking Igbo language or related dialect as a mother tongue. The criteria to join INC and IYC is just to have 100 people from that community come and scream Asawana at Yenegoa, be sure to have crude oil, be riverine, and you are stamped Ijaw! Ijaw is not an ethnic group. It's a political franchise! Never compare it to Ohanaeze Ndiigbo. |
emperorshaokahn:He is a Bayelsa guy. Most of them here are Bayelsans. Go to every Opobo and Bonny group and see them crawling everywhere there. We basically had to sanitize Ndoki groups from their infiltrations. These people are formidable, hardened and well financed for their expansionist schemes by INC and IYC. |
JANK23H:When you go on and tell them that their ancestors who were Igbo kings and founders of Bonny were actually Igbo slaves who bequeathed them the Igbo language. When you tell them that they become decendants of slaves for being who they are and speaking the language of their ancestors. When you keep forcing a dead Kalabari irritating language on them, and frown whenever they exhibit their Igbo true selves. Is that not an insult on them? Yes! A people can be serially brainwashed by withholding vital information from them or distorting them to serve a selfish purpose. Imagine the psychological trauma you Bayelsans have put those people through with your deliberate tampering and disfigurement of their history. You all should be ashamed of yourselves. Especially the old man Alagoa. Very despicable behavior. You want them to be who they are not by deliberate manipulation of history. We want them to remain who they are, who they have always been, who their ancestors were, by showing them their true history. Let posterity be the judge between us and you who wants the best for them. |
izac82:The Ijaws know we are coming, that's why they started making moves on Ndoki recently, because Ndoki is the homeland of the early Bonny founders. If Ndoki remains Igbo, then they lose any historical debate on Bonny. It's their move on Ndoki that triggered the likes of myself. Trust me, the strategy is to be in their faces. We are not revealing everything here. |
sinteiking: I don't think it will be wise to assume Opobians and Bonny people are Igboid when the local folks identify themselves as Ijoid. The people speak Igbo as mother tongue. You must think they are dunce if there are not some of them who identify as Igbo. You see the Ijaws as a political franchise but I have been to Opobo and Bonny and this people don't see Ijaw as a political franchise rather they believe that they are a part and parcel of Ijaw. The locals don't identify as Ijoid. They identify as Bonny and Opobo, while being members of IYC and INC like the rest of non Ijoid groups in SS riverine terrain. There is a political and ethnic Ijaw in the SS . Ask around if you don't know the difference. You claim that there is historical distortion and there is a conspiracy to wipe out the Igbo language from there but I have been to Opobo and Bonny and non of this your claim holds water as the people themselves has never believed they were Igbos.Yes there's a historical distortion and have proven it here. Let me list it for you. ✓Alagoa fraudulently reduced Igbo presence in Bonny to Slaves ✓Early European records proved this to be false as Slaves can't be kings in Bonny, but we know that Early Bonny kings identified themselves to be of Igbo descent ✓Bonny and Opobo people have been repeatedly told that their Igbo language came from Igbo slaves and that keeping it makes them descendants of Igbo Slaves, that the only way they be Indigenes of Bonnyland is if they throw away their Igbo language ✓ To this end, there have been aggressive campaign anchored by the fraudulent historian himself Alagoa, since 1990s to make Opobo and Bonny people drop their Igbo language and culture for Kalabari language they dubiously termed "Ibani" language. These are not claims, these are all verified facts! If you say Ijaw is a political franchise, can we also say Igbos are political franchise too?Every clan in the Igbo ethnic group speak an Igboid language that is mutually intelligble to each other. In Ijaw, Epie-Attisa, Udekeme Engenni speak an Edoid language that is closely related to Isoko language. The Ogbia, Abureni, Andoni, Abua, Odual, Obulom (Abuloma people) all speak an Ibibiod language. None of these languages are in any way related to Ijaw language. If that's not a franchise, I don't know what else it is. How can people who speak unrelated full fledged languages, with each language having it's own sub dialects be a member of same ethnicity? Does it make sense to you? Now if people of Bonny and Opobo has identified themselves as Ijaw, who is me and you to identify them as something else? These people never identified themselves as Ijaws before the war. We can't decide for them who they want to be, but we want them to make that decision with all the available facts and information being made available to them, so that they can make an INFORMED decision. Because right now, every Opobo and Bonny person that have been embracing Ijaw language that I met, were doing so believing that his ancestors were Ijaws and that they switched to Igbo Language because of Igbo Slaves. That's the narrative Alagoa and the British post civil war propaganda sold. Besides, if you feel there is a distortion of historical facts, the people you ought to be convincing is not us here on nairaland but the local folks in Opobo and BonnyThere is a historical distortion, and the aim here is to make it a general knowledge that Alagoa and Ijaw nationalists from Bayelsa distorted Bonny and Opobo history. Atleast you now know that such distortion exists, likewise anyone else that would stumble into this thread in the future. We used this thread for brainstorming. We will soon spread the message using all available social media platforms. Until it reaches all and sundry. Our aim is basically to stimulate a discussion on the the topic, to force the topic into limelight and expose the likes of Alagoa or force him into a public debate. These people already knows who they are irrespective of our opinion, our opinion is inconsequential as long as these people has already identify themselves.Trust me, the people don't know anything. None of them have read any of the historical materials on Bonny and Opobo that we shared here. All they always had was Alagoa fraudulent distortions being repackaged and shoved down their throats yearly by IYC and INC. We are providing them with full information that Alagoa denied them, and then allow them make an informed decision on their identity and decision to throw away the Igbo language heritage their Igbo ancestors who were also Aboriginal settlers and kings of Bonny bequeathed them. That's the least we can do. We owe it to the Igbo Aboriginals and kings in Bonny, that their presence in the land be not reduced to the lowly status of slaves by Ijaw expansionists from Bayelsa led by Alagoa. |
9Pluto:Ok. WhatsApp and Telegram are also good. |
9Pluto:That's a good idea. Slayerforever, you should create a new Facebook page, and then we admit members from NL only by this means. |
sinteiking:Opobo and Bonny associate with Ijaw because Ijaw as we know it today is a political franchise, anyone in the riverine terrain can join. Even Edoid speakers like Epie/Atissa, Engenni, Udekeme, etc all identify as Ijaws today even though they continue to speak their native Edoid language. They understand Ijaw to be a political franchise. The Ibibiod groups who are recently trying to form an independent United group of the own, which includes the Abua, Odual, Ogbia, etc also speak their Ibibiod language at home. They all understand that Ijaw is a political franchise for easy access of oil contract deals and other lucrative dealings with oil companies and the FG. Ijaw is not making any effort to surplant the native non Ijoid language of these groups. But in case of Opobo and Bonny, because they are Igboid, Ijaws are not comfortable with just the political franchise tag, they want a cultural suicide. They consider the Igbo a soft target. Hoping to rally on the prevalent Igbophobic sentiments prevalent in the region. They want Bonny and Opobo language replaced outrightly. To this aim, historical distortions have been made by Alagoa and perpetuated for decades unchallenged regrettably by the Igbo Academia, so much that they have started taking the form of the truth. The Bonny and Opobo people are being Hoodwinked into believing that their Igbo language was an alien language, while Kalabari language was their old language. They have made it hard for Opobo and Bonny to embrace their Igbo language by distorting historical facts and creating the impression in the psych of Bonny and Opobo that for them to embrace Igbo, is equivalent to accepting that they are descendants of Igbo Slaves, since Alagoa had effectively contrived to reduce Igbo presence in Bonny to that of Igbo slaves, while dubiously omiting the fact that Igbos were also present in Bonny as Kings and as Aboriginals as testified by early European accounts of Bonny. Our point is that if Bonny and Opobo people are going to Change their Igbo language to Kalabari language, let them atleast do so knowing the truth that their ancestors always spoke Igbo and were Igbos and that there was no language switch. Let them know that their Igbo language didn't come to them through Igbo slaves but through their Kings and their first ancestors who were Igbos and first settlers in the Island. Let them know that embracing their Igbo Language and culture doesn't make them decendants of Igbo Slaves, it makes them descendants of early Bonny founders and kings, it gives them nobility claim in the Island. Let their decision to throw away their Igbo language be that of an INFORMED decision, and not a manipulated one that it currently is. This thread is not about making Bonny and Opobo people accept Igbo. It's about correcting historical distortions that demonized the Igbo language in Bonny and Opobo,by presenting it as a language of slaves, when all historical facts show that the early founders of Bonny and Opobo not only were Igbo speakers, but identified themselves as a people of Igbo descent. This is the meat of this thread. I hope you understand better now! |
9Pluto:Slayerforever already created a group, but I was slow to join. I have been on this forum for so long because I always avoided joining forums created outside here. Many of such forums end up infiltrated by Igbophobes and identities of members and their Monikers made public here. We have lost many strong Igbo voices to such. The one that pained me most was that of a certain Anioma son around 2012 or so. Maybe I should make an exception this time around. I don't even access to the email I used to open this Moniker anymore. |
9Pluto:Okay, I think I can do this. When I'm done I will post it here to be vetted by all before taking it to all Igbo Facebook platforms and those of Opobo and Bonny. |
RobbStark:Then stop panicking ![]() Let me tell you an example of effort in futility. The useless attempt to implant the dead Kalabari language called Ibani in Opobo and Bonny. That's an example of an exercise in futility. It has been on since 1990s and now a yearly jamboree and avenue for funds embezzlement for Opobo and Bonny politicians. I bet they would be earmarking huge state funds for it. And after the whole jamboree, they all go back home to speak their beautiful Igbo language with their wives and children, probably mocking you desperate Bayelsans in their bedrooms. ![]() |
9Pluto:So you agree on breaking the history down to parts then. Part 1 should be all about Bonny and Opobo early history and their early settlers. The list of kings, the intrigues and power tussle amongst them. The evolution of early Bonny from the Okpara bu isi system of it's early Igbo settlers to adoption of the "Wari" war house system of the riverine tribes around them. What do you think about the above? |
SlayerForever:Ututuoma. Not sure I can do good justice to it. But I can try. What exactly do we want to have in this . Take the readers through a concise but engaging and intriguing journey through the early history of Bonny and Opobo inhabitation, taking note of the ethnic identity of the early/first settlers, citing historical documents where necessary to back it up. Be as vague as possible in definning Bonny and Opobo current political ethnicity, but being empathic in drumming down the fact that the ancestors of modern Bonny and Opobo were the KINGS and EARLY SETTLERS of those Islands and not just descendants of the slaves. People on internet hate long articles, so article has to avoid being too voluminous? Should article try to cite Ijaw distorted versions of Opobo and Bonny history before refuting them? Maybe to avoid losing vital information while trying to avoid being too long, article can be broken down in parts. Like Part 1 tailored specifically to present our case on Bonny and Opobo Part 2, measured to debunk Alagoa and other Ijaw expansionists Part 3, looking at current Opobo and Bonny identity and a detailed chronicle of Ijaw nationalists deliberate attempt at commiting cultural genocide in Opobo and Bonny . I'm just brainstorming here.article MUST not be written by me , but I can try. |
Newton85:When he couldn't speak Igbo. Are you okay? |
Vintagepipes:Yes! The Bini and Igala used same template. The template is to demonize the Igbo tag, ie link it with Slave! The average Ukwuani Ndokwa and Ika man is scared of the Igbo tag because the Binis had wired it into their conscience that accepting the Igbo tag would be accepting that they are descendants of Bini slaves , while claiming Bini origin makes them Royalty. That's same trick that is at work in Bonny and Opobo. In Kogi, the Igala wired into the Igbos there that to claim Igbo is to accept being migrants in their own ancestral lands. They were made to believe their ancestral lands belongs to Igala! To avoid being called migrants, they claim Igala origin. You did well pointing this out. |
Okay. So I'm back. Finally, what we have been able to achieve in this thread is to establish that the Igbo presence in Bonny is Aboriginal and not only via slave trade. This is very important, because no one have been able to argue this point convincingly and provide evidence for it before now. The second stage is awareness creation. We have to find a way to put this information out there in the real world and make it a common knowledge! Social media would help on this. And I reckon this should move smoothly. The next stage is to get the academia involved. Our professors in history at our universities in SE should earn their keep. We need them to ruin Alagoa intellectually by publishing books on Bonny and Opobo to correct Alagoa manipulations and force Alagoa into an intellectual debate. It would be interesting to see the old fox grasping at straws like JANK23H have been doing on this thread. Like Eastlink noted, Alagoa cannot be dragged by people like us. We need our big wigs in the Academia to do the job! Gidi gidi bu ugwu Eze. Ekelu Olu eke! Then the most important aspect, we need a political will. And this can only happen when we start putting people who reason beyond women, drinks, parties, stashing of public funds abroad and jetting off to live abroad come the end of their tenure, in positions of power in Igboland. This obviously cannot be achieved with IPOB methods that shies away from taking control of Political power in SE and the enormous finance that this could give to us to finance a Better positioned and reformed Ohanaeze to do it's ground job of cultural unification of all Igbo speaking people. We have to start putting people of substance who reason beyond their clan , village, town and state. People willing to close ranks with counterparts from Igbo speaking regions in SS, SE and NC to achieve a purpose for the benefit of United Igbo nation. Zik was Better in this aspect, that was how we got Osadebey to be the premier of Mid Western region. In my opinion, this is the challenge facing us. But we are already doing alot just by discussing this topic. |
JANK23H:Captain Pereira Never even mentioned Bonny. ![]() No be juju be that? |
JANK23H:As always, I have all the receipts. Wait for it. You will soon log into your other account when blown out of your depth now. I'm getting to my archives, I will get back to you soon on my source. ![]() |
JANK23H:You are being ridiculous. We are discussing Bonny history. Provide a source showing the presence of Jos men as Aboriginals in Bonny, you couldn't. You went and provided a source showing that Ijaws were found in Rivers along the region, as if that was ever in doubt or part of the argument. You are consciously obfuscating issues having lost the argument. You are not a serious student. You entered exam and saw you have no answers to questions raised, you decided to set your own questions and Mark the exam sheet yourself while insisting the result must be recognized after all the questions you set can be found in same textbook your lecturer set the main exam. What a clowning behavior. Move on bro. Key words here are : Bonny and Jos. Get a snippet that have them in same sentence or shut up forever. |
JANK23H:Writer was speaking of Aboh. Before Aboh, there was Akili/Akarai, an ancient Igbo speaking group who used to occupy the exact spot you have Aboh standing on today. Aboh was formed in Akarai land. Until Akarai was vanquished and scattered all over Anambra (Ogbaru) and Rivers (Ogba and Ekpeye), there was no Aboh. Aboh were recent migrants to the place, they were Igbo speakers who lived in the vicinity of Bini, like IKa and Igbanke do today before they Left and settled in Akarai land. The writer was not wrong on Aboh being recent migrants to the place. What he didn't state was that Akarai were already living there and were scattered and their land possessed by Aboh people. |
JANK23H:No where in the chapter was Bonny mentioned. Did that get lost on you? We are discussing the origin of Bonny Aboriginals here. And you posted a snippet that not only did not mention Jos being Aboriginals in Bonnye, but didn't even mention Bonny at all. Nnaa, are you sure you are alright? |
JANK23H:You are not making sense. The Igbos were already in Aboh before another set of Igbos who were living in Bini came to meet them. The Igbo group Aboriginals to Aboh were called the "Akarai/Akili", they were the ones who welcomed the Bini cultured Igbos who left Bini Kingdom led by Esumai to join them. The Akarai people accomodated the Igbo speaking but Bini cultured Esumai led party to the land we call Aboh today. But trouble happened between the both, so the Bini party won, and chased off the Akarai/Akili people and possessed the land. The Akarai people were forced to cross the Niger and formed the Akili communities in Ogbaru LGA named Akili-Ozizor ( Stella Odua is from here), Akili-Ogidi and Akili-Atani (Osita Osadebey is from here). The rest of Akarai people were forced to travel further south the River Niger, they crossed the Orashi river and formed the Ogba and Ekpeye. When Ogba and Ekpeye claim their progenitor was Akalaka, it's actually Akarai/Akili that they corrupted. Now the Akili/Akarai/Akalaka were called so because they use to have a distinct type of facialmarks (which in Igbo is called Akalaka). Long story short, the Aboh didn't meet the land empty, they met the Akarai, an Indigenous Igbo speaking people on that land, who they fought, won and displaced. Some Akarai people stayed in Aboh and was assimilated, some of them are still scattered all over Ndokwa region. This is the history of ABOH. Stop meddling into things you know nothing about. Isoko is basically a union of Edoid(Urhobo), Ijoid and Igboid speakers, who became Edoid with unique flavor |
BKayy:No cap! All Departments of History in SE Universities are a crying disgrace. They are not worth a kobo spent on them. They should probably all be shut down in sane climes and if we had a strong Political will. |
JANK23H:Lol! What's this? Were Isokos not migrants to Isoko from Bini? You are going mad o! Didn't everyone migrate from somewhere? ![]() |
Eastlink:Well, even if you want independence, you must first and foremost conquer your home turf politically, thereafter become a big player in the FG circles, only then can you begin to think of independence. So yeah, the process of Igbo independence, requires a strong Igbo region within the framework of Nigerian political milleu first and foremost. We are basically saying same thing. |

I'm here scratching my head wondering where Bonny was written in the snippets you shared. Maybe I'm going blind. But please can you circle the part of the snippet where it was written that the people of Bonny are people of Jos. |
