These people are despicable and treacherous. They must be fuming at Bisi Akande now. He buried the dishonesty of this thread. |
AS president in 2011, Goodluck Jonathan did all he could to ensure South West grabbed the country’s number four seat, including lobbying then opposition leaders from the zone, to no avail. The North West eventually grabbed the seat, supported by South West leaders in opposition to then ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). Former Governor of Osun State and now statesman, Chief Bisi Akande, made this revelation in his autobiography, “My Participations” which is currently dominating political and national dis- course. Aminu Tambuwal, now Sokoto State governor, won the seat, against the preferred pick of his party, Mrs Mulikat Adeola Akande, from the South-West. Defunct Action Congress of Nigeria, then a fledging opposition, which had Akande and his soulmate, former Lagos State governor, Senator Bola Tinubu, as front- line leaders, openly asked its elected members of the House of Representatives, mostly from the South-West, to work against their region and back Tambuwal from North-West. The opposition party’s support carried Tambuwal through the contest against Akande, then ruling party’s favourite for the speakership seat. In his book, Chief Akande revealed that former president then as incumbent, personally reached out to Tinubu, who is now believed to be nursing presidential aspiration in 2023 and himself, but couldn’t convince them. He wrote, “President Jonathan, immediately after the meeting (with political parties), called Bola Tinubu aside into a lobby to broach the matter of ACN support for a choice of who would become the Speaker of the House of Representatives. “That same day, President Jonathan talked to me on phone about the same matter. He disclosed that PDP had zoned the position to the South-West but that only one Muraina and another Mulika won elections on PDP ticket from the zone into the House of Representatives. “I quickly reminded him that, as at (sic) that date in the United States of America, while the Democrats produced the Senate President, the Republicans (the opposition) produced the Speaker of the House of Representatives. I boasted that ACN was capable of suggesting to him ten names of members from the South West from among whom to choose if PDP would be magnanimous enough to practice democracy the way it was being practised in the USA, from where we imported our presidential system. “He seemed pissed off and stopped the conversation,” he said. In the era being referenced by the former national chairman of the defunct opposition party, the controlling party in each of the chambers of the Congress in the United States was in the majority, which wasn’t the case with ACN when the Ila-born politician was making his claim. He also revealed in the book that their political platforms had their sight on working against the then ruling party. “In the aftermath of the 2011 elections, many of our people were dissatisfied. Under the PDP, our country has become thoroughly decadent. Those of us who saw the then ruling party as an extension of the military corrupt politics preferred to work with all the major opposition parties which would eventually lead to a merger if we were to uproot the entrenched PDP and its evil tendencies. The first party that came to mind was the CPC which like us, was resolutely opposed to the PDP. “Immediately after the elections, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila led a team of ACN boys to Bola Tinubu and me to suggest support for Hon. Aminu Tambuwal, a PDP member from Sokoto, to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives. In the meantime, President Goodluck Jonathan was pressing for a government of national unity, with a bid of sucking ACN into manipulative extinction.” Another major revelation from the book is the involvement of a former National Security Adviser and a Sokoto prince, Colonel Sambo Dasuki (rtd) in the presidential project of now President Muhammadu Buhari preparatory to the 2011 presidential election against then incumbent Jonathan. Jonathan defeated Buhari in the contest, before Buhari triumphed in their replay in 2015. Interestingly, Dasuki would go on to become Jonathan’s most senior security adviser, but also ended up spending 1,484 days in detention, while being prosecuted by the Buhari administration, for alleged corruption while serving in the Jonathan administration. He was eventually released on December 24, 2019, after many court orders for his released had been spurned by the administration. He was accused of siphoning fund meant for arms to fight insurgency in the North-East. The author, however, paid the embattled former security chief compliments for his role in facilitating a merger between ACN and CPC in the build-up to the 2011 poll, to defeat Jonathan. He said, “The reaction of CPC to this letter (to CPC from ACN and published on the same page), began the failed negotiation between ACN and CPC which attracted further intervention by some national leaders like General Babangida, Atiku Abubakar and others. “This eventually crashed at the threshold of the 2011 presidential elections which President Jonathan of the PDP won again. “The efforts of the former National Security Adviser– Colonel Sambo Dasuki is worth mentioning in this political bridge-building attempt between ACN and CPC. Dasuki was then in support of Buhari becoming the presidential candidate of the alliance. “Sambo Dasuki was coming around, begging us, to support Buhari’s presidential aspiration. Nuhu Ribadu, whom we had earlier chosen as our presidential candidate in the ACN, said he was ready to step down for Buhari. He said when he accepted to run, he did not know that Buhari was also interested in running.” https://tribuneonlineng.com/how-we-foiled-jonathans-effort-to-make-mulika-adeola-speaker-akande-reveals/ |
DabuIIIT:Sure I can |
Who doesn't know that Yorubas need Nigeria like fish needs water, even more than the Northerners! The average informed Yoruba man dreads Nigeria disintegration, you think they are stupid? Their goldmine is Lagos and they know Lagos viability is highly dependent on Nigeria remaining a single unit. Their plan is to mine Lagos at the expense of everyone else in the shithole country and spread development from Lagos around their region starting from Ogun. Problem is that people are wiser now. |

I hope this thread buries this:https://www.nairaland.com/745731/yoruba-marginalization-elders-met-jonathan |
Newton85:IGR figures can be manipulated for propaganda and empty chest thumping. But you can't manipulate not being able to fund your budget. ![]() You either can fund it or you can't. No room for propaganda. ![]() |
Rithner:The road that high rise lie on , if you follow it straight up, with no diversion whatsoever, it leads you straight to Leru junction at PH-Enugu Express road. |
tollyboy5:Igbos voted for Zik in 1979 and 1983 presidential elections. Both Awolowo and Shagari chose Igbo VPs , but we didn't vote for any of them. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_Nigerian_presidential_election |
DontBullshitMe:I didn't Know that, but I just checked. PDP won Oyo and Ondo in 2019. So it's two and not there. And I'm not sure that the percentage was up to 48% in SW. I will calculate it later. |
Positivepoint:Liar. He was born in Kano to Kanuri parents.
|
LegendHero:Show us where you ever gave an Igbo presidential or VP candidate 48% of votes! Just once in your history! You can't expect from others what you never offered them. We await! And by the way, Tofa was from Borno state, he was a Kanuri man, Abiola and Yorubas had no problem voting a Kanuri VP in Kinigbe Baba Gana! But Igbos voting a Kanuri president in Tofa should be an abomination? |
Can Yorubas show us a presidential election, where they gave an Igbo presidential candidate or VP , 48% of the elections casted in SW while ignoring a Yoruba VP or president involved in same election? For emphasis. Zik was a presidential candidate in 1979 and 1983 And Ekwueme was the VP to Shagari in 1979 and 1983! How many percentage of votes did Yorubas give these Igbo men? Chuba Okadigbo was the VP to Buhari in 2003 and Ume-Ezeoka was Buhari VP in 2007! How many percentage of votes did SW give these two Igbos? How can Yorubas accuse Ndiigbo of things they are guilty of. They cry that our 48% given to Abiola was too small, but they have never given an Igbo VP or presidential candidate up to 15% of votes cast in SW! Isn't this hypocrisy! |
Another fact to be noted is that Tofa was not actually a Fulani, he was from Borno, from Kanuri tribe, likewise Abiola VP Kinigbe Baba Gana. They were both Kanuri men. So this whole Agenda of Yorubas where they claim that Igbos chose a Fulani in 1993 presidential elections is not true as Tofa was a Kanuri, and as you can see, despite Abiola rumoured sneer against Igbos where it was rumoured that he said he could do without Igbos, Abiola still got 48.35% of the votes casted in SE, in an election an Igbo son in Ugoh Sylvester was a VP to a major candidate in Tofa. If anything Ndiigbo showed Political maturity in 1993 and Yorubas should be grateful for that. And not attempt to twist facts decades later. Ndiigbo will fully appreciate it that Yorubas treat an Igbo presidential candidate or VP candidate the way Ndiigbo treat Abiola by giving such a candidate 48.35% of total amount of votes that would be cast in SW when the time comes, and atleast let such Igbo man win one vital SW state, for example Ogun, like Abiola won Anambra! |
Often do we hear Yorubas parrot the line that Igbos didn't vote for Abiola in the ill-fated 1993 presidential Election. As is often the case, lies when repeated often enough start taking the veneer of the truth. For this reason was this thread birthed, with the sole aim to separate facts from fictions, truth from calumny and to set the record straight! The 1993 presidential election was between Tofa of NRC and Abiola of SDP , Tofa had an Igbo from present Abia state named Ugoh Sylvester as the VP, while Abiola had a Northerner from Kanuri tribe of Borno named Knigbe Baba Gana as the VP. The SE at this point in history had 4 states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo, Ebonyi was not in existence then. And below is the statistical analysis of how Igbos voted. State. Abiola. Tofa Abia 105,273 151,227 Anambra 212,024 159,258 Enugu 263,101 284,050 Imo 159,350 195,836 Total. 739,748 790,371 % Vote 48.35%. 51.65% From the stats above. Abiola got 48.35% of the total votes for a presidential election where an Igbo was a VP to a major candidate! Abiola even won Anambra state outrightly, and in Abia where the VP to Tofa was from, he got over 40% of the votes casted.

Rithner:The first one is shorter and safer (in the sense that it doesn't have too many lonely portions). But no where is fully safe, lecturers in Spiritan University have been known to have been kidnapped by suspected Fulani Herdsmen in that Spiritan University road portion. The whole Okigwe/Umunneochi is crawling with Fulani Herdsmen, because of the cattle market and settlement at Lokpa-nta in Umunneochi. The key to being safe in these routes is to avoid night travel. |
DubaiLandLord1:Is it that obvious? ![]() |
Alabo7978:You are clutching on straws. At that point in history, Kalabari was not just an Ijoid speaking people, they were multilingual. We know they had atleast Igbos, and Ibibiod tribes there then all living together. They are actually called New Calabar because they migrated from Calabar. So the original stock there were non Ijoid. The King of New Calabar was an Igbo by the time Baike and Crow was around the neighborhood. We know this because the Igbos native to New Calabar who found themselves in Sierre Leone, identified themselves as Bom-Ibo! They spoke and knew they were Igbos and identified with other Igbos in Sierre Leone. In it's formative years, most clans in what you call the Eastern Ijaw today, ie New Calabar, Okirika were a multilingual and cultural people consisting of natives from Igbo, Ibibiod and Ijoid tribes. For some reason years of mixing resulted in Ijoids coming tops in New Calabar and Okirika, though in some parts of Okirika, the Ibibiod (Obulom/Abuloma) and Igboids (Okujagu) managed to create enclaves where they retained their language while the rest of them were assimilated by Ijoids. But in Bonny and Opobo, the Igbo Aboriginals helped by Igbo slaves managed to dominate th Islands totally and obliterated any non-Igbo presence. |
9Pluto:Exactly. You see the Fubaras all over Internet telling their Igbo hosts in Bonny that Igbo Language in Bonny came from slave trade. Trying hard to impose their dead Kalabari Ijoid language on Bonny Igbos. No be juju be that? |
Anonymous15:Everyone came from somewhere! Why was it called New Calabar? Because the people came from old Calabar! The Brass minorities in Bonny also came from Brass homeland in Bayelsa. No one falls from the sky. Common sense bro. What matters is that the Igbo Aboriginals in Bonny met the land empty. They were the first arrivals and produced the first kings! They were native to the land before the start of slave trade. We all know that Bonny sprung from Igbo, because Bonny still speak Igbo as mother tongue today. We know that Igbo spoken in Bonny is not the Igbo of the Isu( who formed the bulk of Igbo Slaves) it's the Igbo of Ndoki, ie the Igbo of the Aboriginals of Bonny! The Igbo slaves in Bonny was forced to lose their Isu Igbo dialect and adopt the Igbo(Ndoki) of Bonny Igbo Aboriginals! The names Bonny bear are not Ijaw names. You don't see those names in Bayelsa. Most Bonny names are corrupted English names. That are perculiar to Bonny people. It's also funny that an Ijaw now care about language and names, when these two criteria have always been watered down by you expansionists in your land grab schemes. |
UCyril:No need! They will just be shouting :Aaah Izon! Aswana! Egberi Faaa! And there after shift to Pidgin English. It's a political franchise something. |
Rugaria:Interesting perspective. What are Igbo elites doing about this? |
Eastlandx:Nothing stays hidden under the sun forever. Ngwa and Alayi masquerade in Poto poto! ![]() |
Eastlandx:The he-she lost her veneer easily. lol those years of masquerading lost just like that. Hehe! |
Looks like we have ruffled Ijaw feathers. This is good! They are all probably panicking over there in Kolokuma and Gbaramatu. |
As for the Igbos not liking swamps of the Niger because of diseases. I noticed you have been quoting me out of context. I said that Igbos on the majority didn't like the Niger Delta areas because of the high death rates associated with river borne diseases like malaria and co there. I also noted that Igbos who were not high ranked in their homeland, who committed one abomination or the other and were banished or those who had to flee their homeland from enemies, all headed towards the Delta. It's a land only favoured by Igbos who didn't have the option of staying in dry and warm rainforest of Igbo mainland. I never said that Igbos were not in the Delta as Aboriginals! They were in Bonny and in Opobo and New Calabar as Aboriginals! Way before the pirates from the people of Jos came canoe paddling from their original homeland in far away Kolokuma! The Bonny and New Calabar aboriginals who found themselves in Sierre Leone, identified themselves by their hometowns as Obane-Igbo and Bom-Igbo. New Calabar was at this point a new territory inhabited by a people of Multiethnic origin all speaking their Individual languages. And like Ekealterago noted, Igbos, Ijoid and Ibibiod (from Andoni part) people were in New Calabar at this point. But the King was of Igbo descent and he wasn't a former slave, he was an Aboriginal. |
Anonymous15:You are mentally unstable or challenged. See how dumb your question is: If Ogidi are Igbos, why did Taylor highlight that they call themselves INWELLE? If Egbema in Rivers State are Igbos, why did Baike emphasize that they call themselves ALLENSAW(Alinso). It's a stupid and pointless question. 1 because Bonny calling themselves Okoloma has nothing to do with IJAW. By this point in history, the Ijaws were already known and they were called the people of JOS! Why didn't Bonny call themselves the people of JOS? Because they were not! Does Bonny calling themselves Okoloma provide any information on their Igbo or Ijaw origin? Nope! Did Pepple and Bonny people provide the Colonials information about their origin? Yes! They did to Captain Crow and to Baike. Look at what they said here! ( attached pic) They point blank said they descended from Igbo. At no point in history was it ever recorded that Bonny or Okoloma were linked with the people of Jos, the only other non Igbo people that Bonny descended from are the people of Brass, who we know are independent from the people of Jos! We have tasked you to provide this info if there were any, but it's been 70 pages and you couldn't All you do is dwelling on irrelevant things as diversionary tactics, you deceive no one but yourselves.
|
Brimstone77:A Yoruba accuses you of what he wants to do. So that once he starts doing them, no one will see through it. He calls him self "Most educated tribe" , "Most sophisticated" ,"Most accommodating" ,most this , most that. Even irrelevant things like "IGR" are good sources of chest thumping. But guess what, they are not boastful, they are humble(Omoluabi) and gentle. Go figure. ![]() |
ThinkSmarter:No one is ridiculing anyone. Abureni is not Ijaw and they are in Brass LGA. Biseni is a mixture of Ndoni and Ijaw. Language is Ijoid, but with non Ijaw flavor because of the Igbo component there. Many Biseni people bear Ndoni (Igboid) names. |
Anonymous15:You are mentally challenged. The book Ekealterago quoted was discussing about Igbo slaves in Sierra Leone and their Igbo clans in Nigeria. Seriously, are you high on Ogogoro? Because you are clearly speaking out of point. |

How is it Igbo? I can see few Igbo loan words like Ónu for Mouth, Akpa for Bag, Ilu for proverb. But that's just all there is about. Everything else is divergent. The number system and names of basic things. You have to be like Ijaw expansionists to claim that Ogbia is Igbo, because that language I'm seeing there is by no means Igbo. |
