duro4chang: He said it the way it appears in the law. The law did not specifically say you must have 25% votes in Abuja. The lawyer is actually right . That is exactly how the law put it. assuming the law says after have 25% in 3/4 States , you must also have 25% votes in Abuja it would have been a different case. The lawyer is brilliant aswear. Why didn't he say Obi's own the same way he said Tinubu 's own. The lawyer is not brilliant, he should have quoted the section of the law that made it mandatory instead. One simple question and the case is closed. Judge to Tinubu's , Did your client get 25% in FCT? No the why did you include it in the list of the palces you client got 25%,? |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi/labour Party Vs Inec/tinubu: Respondents Final Written Address by Igwe9(m): 7:48am On Jul 15, 2023 |
DeLaRue: No, it isn't and can't be 'gone' just because the petitioners 'push'.
A party to a case can push his line of argument, but it is for the court to interprete the Constitution.
Interpretation of the Constitution is not like proving a fact where the court is to a large extent relying on lawyers for the parties. The constitution reserves the power of Interpretation to the court. Lawyers can only seek to persuade the court.
I also don't believe the 25% issue is substantially challenging. In my view, there's less than a 5% chance that the court will adopt a literal interpretation as that is unlikely to reflect the intention of the makers of the Constitution.
I suspect that is why the President 's lawyers did not waste too much time on it. It's fairly simple. It's clearly stated in the constitution and APC saying that the FCT minister can be hired and fired at will by the president means that the president must been elected by atleast 25% of those in FCT as stated in the constitution. All their augments there pointed towards FCT not to be treated as a state, meaning that FCT is different and special. If FCT is inferior to other States as alluded by them then a special consideration must be given to it as obtained in JAMB with respect to the educational less developed states. |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi/labour Party Vs Inec/tinubu: Respondents Final Written Address by Igwe9(m): 7:33am On Jul 15, 2023 |
Surprisingly, APC in their defense show that FCT is not to be treated as a state of the federation and on the same hand not superior to any state of the federation but failed to oppose where it was mentioned in the constitution that a candidate must get 25% in 2/3 of the 36 states AND FCT. They also said that FCT has no Governor and other things that the states have, the President and the Law makers oversee the affairs in the FCT and this means that the only way FCT dwellers can contribute on who governs them is through their ballot of which 1/4th must be in support of whoever that's going to emerge. |

Lifestone: God bless you. We need to ramp up export like China and Vietnam did. USA fought China severally because Yuan is weak compared to Dollar, that's why Chinese products are cheaper in the Western world. Our Naira has always been weak against dollar and yuan but the level at which it has gotten now is troubling. The implication of what you are saying is that our neighboring countries can come over and buy all the available goods in our market, hence increasing our food inflation and the same thing is happening to our petroleum. When their currencies are stronger, they can afford to get more money to buy off our fuel, therefore causing us more problem. If our currency was stronger, all these wouldn't have been happing. I only pity the fix income earners. |

What do those countries produce and export? Some people are dumb and wicked, if not for corruption, wickedness and backbiting, no African country would have seen our back in term of development. How did we get here? Tribalism and bigotry, Igbos came to Lagos and some other states to do business and flourish, what are they getting? oppression . They sponsored some disgruntled elements to destabilize their zone just to make sure Nigeria remains stagnant. |

Majesty7: A HUGE shame on you.
Speaking in the same vein, Obi’s media aide, Tai Obasi, said as much as what the president is attempting to do appears positive, it is not enough to legitimise his government.
“It is obviously a gimmick. Of course, you know the man (Tinubu) and the problem he is facing in court. It is easy for one to see what he is trying to do even though it looks positive though.
“But again, the oppositions are not fools. As we are concerned, we still see his government as an interim one,” he concluded.
Or is his media aide no longer speaking on his behalf? And you went to school? |

It is just like saying that Bank paid you back your fixed deposit . Eurobond is auctioned every now and then, Some individuals also invested in it through the Federal government. Why wasn't the other repayment made by Buhari administration echoed like this? |
