Does she work, who foots her bills ? like others have said, reexamine yourself and know where/how things went wrong in your life, if she had contributed or given an advice that yielded a negative result,you'd know and can place the blame on her else find yourself another job.

For me, I'd say, self employment is better if you are fortunate enough to excel in it, but most times paid employed person end up being an employer of labor, which with all the experience, connections and long term planning becomes a success.

It's better to be once an employee than to be once an employer of labor.
you can be both if you plan well,although, it all depends on the type of job you do.
