I've read thru' all 7 pages and I'm wondering if its a good thing or a bad thing that people dont know what & who we Ijaws are! I just love the way their limited knowledge keeps them guessing. Big ups to you, 'Omubo' Barcarnista. Surprisingly, it was an Igbo man in One_Naira who got the closest definition of Ijaw. Another thing you seem to be disregarding isMy take on the whole issue is; We Ijaws will never start a war without provocation, Asari said all that because he like all Ijaws was provoked by the attitude and comments from Northerners. We don't oppress our neighbours for whatever reason-shame on those who call us expansionist. If any of our neighbours has ever been oppressed by us, kindly bring it up here. But whoever wants our trouble, it is guaranteed they get it in double. Let me also make it clear that the various pogroms on our lands starting from Biafran massacre on our communities thru' Odi and Okorenkoko won't go unanswered. It may take forever but it'd surely be avenged. God Bless Ijawland, God Bless our Neighbours God bless everywhere else. |
Truckpusher: Exactly and it seems these whole lots don't get it because this is one reason why people like Asari are talking tough because we are fully aware of the importance of this region to this ungrateful country.........Believe me 2015 is a do or die affair after all he who pays the piper should dictate the tunes. My man! |
Truckpusher: Thank you Mr Shymexx. The Yorubas are the highest beneficiaries after the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy when it comes to infrastructure, human development and all the goodies that the oil and gas from the Niger Delta has brought into Nigeria.Wow! Can there be a better way to welcome me back? |
Well done goons! for entertaining us with more Igbo delusions, distortions & propaganda. Ya'all will forever live with your grand delusion disorder & false sense of superiority over we Niger Deltans. Only time will tell. I don't really have time to dignify you ugly ragworms with a response, so continue enjoying your dreamworld experience. I'm too busy to smash some fools right now, I'm coming with back with a pole to smash your madness and separate whack @sses from your souls. Watch out for me, I'LL BE BACK |
cjrane: Allison madueke is an Ijaw woman, married to an Igbo man. Just like Stella Oduah was formely married to anIn light of the bolded Igbo tradition, are Stella ODUAH-OGIEMWONYI & Dora AKUNYILI still Igbo women or Bini & Yoruba respectively? |
^^^Not necessarily! If -and that's a big IF!- the old eastern region emerges from a disintegrated Nigeria, it will be a nation built on equality of all the component parts, and size/population would be immaterial! With all ethnicities having the space and use of their own resources to develop at their own pace, it would be a nation where there would be mutual trust and brotherhood....something Nigeria presently lacks! Personally, i wouldn't mind an Akpabio as our President.
Big lie!! We know the Igbos too well. Don't even waste your time imagining a "reunification". It will never happen. Emphasis on NEVER. Your can continue relishing it in your subconscious fantasy though, UNTIL REALITY WILL DAWN ON YOU GUYS. Terrible, Pathetic & Despicable landlocked creatures struggling hard for an excape route. |
cjrane: You forgot to add Arunma Otteh !Diezani Allison-Madueke is an Ijaw woman married to an Igbo. |
Mr Aboki: Aboy!! No Violence..Shame on you, you can't even understand english, how can you then understand comprehension? |
Mr Aboki: Amaechi built 1 school and 1 Healthcare center (minimum) in every LGA in Rivers State... #Verify..We are not talking of health care centers in "EVERY LGA" here. There are at least Three large health care facilities in Yenagoa LGa as we speak. There are health care facilities in every LGA in Bayelsa too. What the OP is bringing up here is the absence of a health care facility in A COMMUNITY. You use Amaechi as a benchmark, did Amaechi build Health Care Facilities IN EVERY COMMUNITY IN RIVERS STATE? All you haters commenting here, did your governors build health care centers in every community in your state? The Yenagoa LGA we talking about has more health care centers than 90% of LGAs in Nigeria. As for that guy claiming to come from Bayelsa, I pity you. That is how we know people who are faking. Nobody asked you if you're from Bayelsa in the first place, so why the rush? If you even have the slightest idea of who I am, you'd regret every of your misguilded comment. |
KnowAll: The commuinty is even an ear-shot of d capital. According to d report it is within d Yenogoa LG Area, obviously something is very seriously wrong with d so called leaders of that state including Mr President. You should be ashamed of yourself. A delusionist claiming to be a realist. Do you think living in bigotry is reality? |
glory2glory: Is n't this a big shame! Nobody holds successive governments to account in Bayelsa. No health center in an entire community and no one is asking Dickson what he's doing with allocations. Meanwhile Amaechi who has built model health centers in every community in Rivers state is being castigated daily because of political differences with Gej.Look at this irredeemable fool. Is every community in your state having an health care centre? Did Amaechi build health care center in every community in rivers state or every LGA? There are some LGAs in Rivers that don't even have one. Recently, the people of Ahoada West were conplaining of Amaechi's neglet. Yenagoa LGa where that community is located have at least two state owned hospitals and a federal medical center. The OP is not even a Bayelsan, that is why he can differentiate between 1) not having ACCESS to health care facility, and 2) not having health care facility in a single community. Y'all are just myopic and stink with bigotry. |
mbatuku2: Dude, why are you wasting your time arguing with that guy. This topic has been established. Some families likely have Igbo roots, though in the minority, with some still retaining their Igbo names till date. Read the report Abagworo posted you'll find the Owujies, Diris,Uranta, Wogus. My God, when will this stupidy by Igbos end? So Owujie, Diri and Uranta are now Igbo names? Just as you've all claimed that Amanyanabo & Amakiri are Igbo words. Wogu may be an Igbo name but mind you, IT IS NOT A SURNAME IN OPOBO but a first name borne by someone just like Gov. Rotimi Amaechi having a Yoruba name but not related to Yoruba in any way. If you find a name that sounds like Igbo, it would be foolish for you to conclude that it is Igbo without without seeking proper knowledge & investigation. In Nigeria today, there are lots of words found in other languages that HAVE MEANINGS in our own languages but just mere coincidence. A name like ABIKE DABIRI would strike the curious Ijaw mind that she must be Ijaw, but upon investigation, it is found to have a completely Yoruba meaning. You Igbos should develope 21st century reasoning and stop behaving like primitive humans by depending less on mere hunches & unguilded emotions. Seek proper knowledge and deviate from the confussionist ideology of "Prof." Kenneth Dike and their likes who have been confusing you with misinformation. |
bigfrancis21: @Bold...do you have any proof or sources to back that up? Or you just want to twist facts to suit you? This comment clearly shows that you're ignorant to the core, but instead of seeking knowledge you guys just come here to flaunt your ignorance and insult people. Keep dreaming about Opobo having "Igbo natives", when you wake up from your slumber, you'd discover that there are NONE. It only here on NL that the term OPOBO IGBOS exists, because as always, there are too many ignorant& uncouthed people here who make comments out of ignorance yet argue that they know what they are talking about. Slave trade ended long before Opobo was founded by Jaja, so when & how were Igbo slaves dumped in Opobo to make the town majority Igbo? Here is a site that educates fools like you of the composition of Opobo, and only Jaja's had Igbo ancestry but now fully Ijaw. www.opoboregatta.com/opobokingdom/about/index.html Go to the north and see lots of non-Hausa people speaking mainly Hausa as a result of historical trading links with Hausa. The worst Hausas could do is to tag them along as ONE NORTH which most of them are rejecting and Hausa don't use the obvious prevalence of Hausa language spread to claim them as "Mixed with Hausa". It is only the Igbos who want to force their will & presence onto another man's land and heritage. Here, knowledgable people are painstakingly educating you that the Igbo creole (not dialect) they speak in Opobo came about during slave trade in Bonny & continous relations & interaction with Ndoki Igbos because of their ancestral Ijaw ties (Ndokis are ancestrally & historically Ijaws), yet you modern Igbos prefer empty chest beating that Igbos constitute a major part of Bonny. Do you think it is by shouting loudest here on Nairaland that would automatically make Igbos majority in Opobo? |
Why is it that it is only the Itsekiris in collaboration with their new Yoruba masters that are creating the impression that Niger Delta are at war with themselves? Within the Urhobos, Isokos, Ogoni, Ibibio-Efik-Calabar cluster and the Ijaw aborigines, is anyone at war? It is only the ungrateful Itsekiris whom the Ijaw and Urhobo have helped to survive all along that are tagging their benefactors and landlords as tenants- Edo people initiated the idea though. This whole land grabbing nonsense sound funny too because it like a thief accusing his victims as thieves. We Ijaw have the history and origins of all Niger Delta/SS people at our fingertips. Before now, you've pitched tents with your fellow Bini land-grabbers to tag Ijaws "nomadic fishermen, migrants,& squatters", it crumbled. Now it is with Yoruba, exellent choice! They have enough land mass to accomodate your less that 1 million population. The Yorubas have used their media power to create an impression that Ijaws are claiming peoples' lands but knowledgable people now know otherwise. Igbos are not helping matters too, as they are one of the people claiming ND will be on fire because of Ijaw imaginary "land-grabbing agenda". Yet they are fighting a lost battled to ressurrect the dead & buried Eastern Region by bargaining support for President Jonathan for the unification of SS & SE. Itsekiris have pitched their tent with Yorubas, Igbos please leave them alone. If any problems arise from their decision, its gonna be a ND problem so Igbos back off with your vile & venom. We in the Niger Delta are prepared for this moment because History is gonna vindicate the Ijaws as the aborigenes of the Niger Delta. You Igbos should forget about annexing ND with your SE under any scheme you can think of, and focus your energy on bringing Ikwerre, Ika and other of your so-called kiths & kins under Igbo rule in your new SE region which would emerge from the conference. Your quest to re-annex ND to form another Eastern Region is a failure already, force of arms failed earlier, your absurd bargaining will fail too. Niger Deltans, we are UNITED against the two evil horns (Easterners & Westerners) bent on causing discord amongst us and annexing our territory. Itsekiris will soon pack out to join their Yoruba masters. Long Live the Ijaw nation, Long Live the Urhobo-Isoko nation, Long Live the Ogoni nation, Long Live the "Calabar" nation, Long Live the New Niger Delta region!! |
Pukkah, your grieviances are gunuine. But you should know that Nairaland is the "wrongest" place to vent it. You've only succeeded in bringing a defect in the state (similar situations found all over the country, even in Abuja) to be ridicled & vilified by uncouthed individuals who know nothing of the situation in Bayelsa. There are better ways you could have handled this since you're so concerned. You could've even mobilize a protest to Bayelsa Government House but here you are washing your dirty linens in the public and giving wolves and jackals an opportunity to tear apart your own state. Most of these people saying rubbish here come from a state where their best governor so far can't even match the worst governor from Bayelsa. Put on your thinking cap. |
ezeagu: So what you're saying in simpler terms is that the Ijaw are more advanced because they've been used and abused by the superior race known as Europeans for longer and have sold themselves to them for longer? Classic inferiority complex. This statements shows just how naive and uneducated you are. Better read people can see thru' your ignorance and stupidity except those who are just like you. Don't ever quote me with this kind of stupidity next time. |
Abagworo: Even the "Asimini" has Igbo roots too Any Ijaw baring such name definitely has Igbo roots.Abagworo, Who wrote that book you quoted below? I'm guessing its the one by "Prof" Kenneth Dike. |
Ikengawo: Before the british there was no 'yoruba'. There way Oyo, Ekiti, Ijebu etc etc and they were trying to kill each other. the Bini people who are linguistically and to a great extent nothing like the yoruba were ruled willing by a yoruba king. the bini founded igbo cities like Onitcha and 'niger delta' cities and groups as well ('niger delta' is the newest 'family' we've created out of thin air). The same Niger Delta Region that the various european groups ( Portuguese, Dutch, French & lastly English) we came in contact with and traded with for more than 300 years when most of your Igboland & indeed most hinterland were still in their primitive default settings. Niger Delta is the first entity europeans came in contact with and it is well document. Ikengawo, Your ignorance is really profound. FYI, Binis did not found any Niger Delta city state, don't rub the fact that Binis formed a major part of Igbo ancestry on the rest of Niger Delta. There are tribes that speak igbo but aren't igbo. tribes that don't speak igbo but are igbo. There are Igbo tribes with more in common with efiks and ijaws than other igbos. As it stands, nothing but colonialism makes an anambran and an abia 'one'.Which Igbo group has more in common with Ijaw people? More in common in what sense? Do you even know what you're typing or you're just another lunatic on the loose? Before colonialism Jaja, and igbo man could raise the ranks in Ijaw man an become a king as he did. Efiks and Ibibios and Igbos were in the same cultural fertrnities and shared the same written language.Another rubbish that never goes out of fashion! You try hard to create an impression that every ethnic group interacted freely with Igbos without any hinderance and as such an Igbo man can just walk into Ijaw territory and become whatever he wants to be. Let me burst you bubble before it forms a cloud above our heads! The only reason why Igbos EVER got to the coast (Ijawland) was thru' SLAVERY & SLAVE TRADE. Jaja didn't just migrate to Ijaw land and 'rise' to become king. He was bought at a very tender age (Igbos even sold their little children into slavery) by an Ijaw trader when he was at the verge of being shipped overseas. Jaja was never a slave in Ijawland but adopted as a SON in an already populated househood of his Ijaw father. Jaja wasn't what he was because he was just one industrious Igbo man making it big in Ijawland. He was what he was NOT because he was Igbo but because he was a SON of an Ijaw man so therefore, Ijaws made Jaja who he is today, not the contrary as you're portraying here. The Ijaw are the worst. exactly what is an Ijaw? They even speak different languages among each other and will openly tell you they have nothing to do with each other. It's only the oil struggle that have brought about a stronger identity for them as biafra did for igbos.Another manifestation of Ozodi Osuji's diagnosis. An Igbo man sees and projects his defects and deficiencies on another man to create sort of consolation that he doesn't share the defect alone! What do you even know about Ijaw people other than the rubbish you read from Nigerians call whites Oyibo. All whites are Oyibo. Hispanics, Asians, Arabs, Europeans, all Oyibo. What if Nigerians would have colonized the world and told "oyibo" people that they were Oyibos. Suddenly it would exist as an ethnic group. After all you can say they all have the same color of skin, and similar hair texture so it has to mean something right? This is exactly what happened in Nigeria. The classic ignorance of an Igbo man! You think every ethnic group is experiencing the confusion Igbos have in Igboland? Nonsense! |
Nigerians need to understand that President Jonathan is not having a contrary view. He is only systematically telling us what the National Assembly is pressuring him to do. After making that statement, he knew the reaction of Nigerians would be against the NA leadership for trying to intrude into the people's conference. President Jonathan is on our side. |
