Obrigardo:The trial won't start in August (pre-trial litigation and all), but this does most likely mean the trial may begin by the end of year, before the primary elections begin. Bad news for Trump. |
feedthenation:Bears repeating. A Trump appointed Prosecutor that was allowed to stay on by Biden. The investigation lasted for 5 years and it ended with misdemeanors. |
basilico:Honestly, what posts of yours I read I feel embarrassed and sad for you. Embarrassed that you post stuff that are so easily fact checked and sad that whatever education you received left you without any critical thinking skills, but maybe that is byproduct of a mental illness. But I qualify that at times by the fact that you live in Nigeria and maybe you think some of the stuff you uncritically believe is possible in the US as it is in Nigeria. It's not. Amongst others as I mentioned above, It's your lack of understanding of the decentralized nature of elections in the US. Fox News has just paid the biggest settlement in News Media history for their lies about the election and yet here you still are. Somehow living in Nigeria you know better than every US authority, Fed. Government, State Government and the Fed. and State US courts. |
Makamatic:1.) Trump. First US President to be indicted for any crime. Just the trial alone should have it's own thread. The fact that a judge he appointed who has been slapped down by a conservative appeals court is going to be presiding over the case. What type of ruling will she make. Will she push the trial till after the election/primaries? Will the prosecutors ask to have her recused? And then there are so many interesting derivates from that. He is running for office. How do the other candidates handle it. Will they have to pledge to support him even if he is convicted. What does that say about the party? There seems to be a concerted plan to try to stop him this time around. You can already see it from BIll Barr to even his most recent interview with Brett Baeir. How do his supporters view that. And on and on. 2.) It's an interesting time for the Supreme Court. A couple of blockbuster decisions coming up. Affirmative action, one. Also they just upheld race-conscious voting protections. Meaning that Republicans will already lose seats, some say enough that next year they wouldn't have a majority. And that opens the question did the Supreme Court give the Republicans a majority in the House this year by initially allowing the new Alabama redistricting plan that gave Republicans these seats. It's an interesting time for US politics. It has been since Trump took office. Esp. the intersection of "Norms" vs laws and how we as a country codify the norms we've become accustomed to. One being what should be the guardrails between the DOJ and the President. Because as some have intimated (Trump and Desantis) they believe the DOJ should be an arm of the President. Sort of how it looks like in Nigeria. |
This thread... There are so many interesting things going on in US politics right now. But people are here still arguing the election was stolen 3 years later, somehow intimating that using a dictionary is a bad thing and posting feculence from right wing sites. These posters drop the IQ of this forum down 30 points. |
budaatum:Yeah, that was a clusterf*ck. Will put it on my to watch list. |
Heard a good interview this AM on Trump's presumed "defense". For Trump to argue that he declassified the documents, he would have to take the stand or someone who knows would have to take the stand. If someone else takes the stand to testify that, they open themselves up to perjury charges. If Trump does... well... He's toast. And if Trump was to argue he declassified the documents in his mind. He would have to take the stand. And again.. if he does, he's toast. So, I don't think he can affirmatively argue he declassified anything. |
ono:Going to help you out here. Google search warrant. A hint: that's how a search warrant works. 1.) for the safety of the agents 2.) so people don't hide the things the agents are looking for while you they are there. Trump even had more liberties than the average person would, he was told to turn off the surveillance system he had.. but didn't. He said he watched it from NY. So he presumably has evidence of them planting this stuff. Evidence he can present in court right? |
Ekemeze:Not necessarily true. A lot of people died in the pandemic believing his lies about it, not wearing masks, not getting vaccinated etc. And people will continue to die because of the same. What's worse is that it was mostly his supporters who died, Herman Cain etc etc. He politicized medicine and vaccinations. Also people died during Jan. 6th believing his lies. Trump represents the worst in humanity. And he has stoked up "nativistic" sentiments that were here but hidden in the past. (KKK members are free now expressing their racism, taking to the streets without masks). That was probably the only upside of his time... racists felt comfortable exposing themselves (like those in this thread). So we could plainly see who they are. I cut off a couple of white "friends" who felt free expressing their racism during the pandemic. He heralded a post-Truth world. And so took advantage of the uneducated and desperate and filled their minds with NONSENE. Nonsense that spread all the way around the world. Look at this thread. He heralded a new generation of Strong Men leaders in other countries. I can go on. I think he is the definition of evil. Reasonable people I know hate him with a passion. It surprises me at times. But, just for his lies about the pandemic that caused a lot of people to die, if he didn't have immunity, I could make a case that he should be prosecuted for manslaughter or murder and if I did believe in the death penalty he would be in line. |
budaatum:Merrick Garland is a serious person. And so if he appointed Jack Smith, I'll assume he's a serious person as well. Unlike Bill Barr and Durham. You can already tell by the fact he filed the charges in FL instead of DC where he would have had friendlier judges and better jurors, a venue in which he could have made a case for. Take a second and look at the charges, evidence in the indictment and the law. It's a pretty much an open and shut case. If this were anybody else but Trump, they'd be trying to settle. You do have a point when it comes to the Judge and jurors. It only takes one Trump juror to deadlock/hang the jury. And Cannon can fux up the case and reduce or not give him any jail time and I don't believe that is something the DOJ can appeal. But a hung jury can be retried. And if Cannon does that he'll still be a felon and this is one of 3 potential serious charges he has to face. Democrats are very good at worrying. |
BraniacX:Welcome to the post-truth world we live in. No matter how many people come out to say Hilary did not have classified documents, they still repeat it because they FEEL it has to be true. |
budaatum:I'm sorry, but this is a bad take. Trump cannot win the General. Republicans are freaking out over it and finally waking up what that means. Hence the recent spade of mealy mouth Republicans walking back their initial defense of him on this indictment. And I don't think Democrats went out to get him (that's a Republican stalking point), but his actions were so atrocious it left Smith no other choice. The guy literally did not comply with a DOJ subpoena and tried to hide Classified Top Secret documents. That's a big deal for anyone. |
PDPGuy:I think the inverse is true. The more he is indicted the more determined he will be to stay in the race. Unless he comes to an agreement with the Republican party that whoever the next President is pardons him and the GA governor pardons him as well. Because, the only way Trump escapes jail is by staying in the race (forestalling the prosecutions) and becoming President to either Pardon himself, direct the DOJ to stop the prosecutions or just forestall the trials for another 4 years. Trump is inherently selfish and we have to see all his decisions through that lens. |
Obrigardo:Agreed for the most part. But, the US justice system is favored/biased for the Rich and connected. Trump is both. So what happens with his Judge's rulings will determine the case. If the Judge doesn't let certain evidence in.. well that changes the case. Also, unfortunately, I'm not sure Trump is going to jail even if he is convicted. I hope I'm wrong though. |
Lol @ Trump. This is bit long. As with all things Trump this indictment is worse than could have imagined. The indictment is damning. If the DOJ has proof for half the allegations (and being this is the DOJ run by a seemingly competent Special Counsel, not Durham, they most likely do) Trump is in trouble. Just the audio tape of him showing highly classified information to someone without clearance is enough to get him convicted. This was a President of the US seemingly to be cavalier with who he showed this Top Secret stuff to. Crazy. But if he is convicted, it'll lead to some interesting questions. How long will they give him? These charges could mean decades in jail or him dying in jail. Will they suspend the sentence? Will he serve in jail? How will that work with his Secret Service Protection. Will Biden commute his sentence now that he has been convicted to mitigate all this drama. But Trump being the legal escape artist he is made a great decision by moving to Florida. Because he committed these crimes in Florida, Jack smith had to file the case in Florida. This is going to cause them some headaches. 1.) They had a 25% chance of drawing Judge Cannon, the biased Judge who was quickly overturned and rebuked by a conservative appeals court for her Pro Trump Rulings. Unfortunately for Jack Smith, she was the Judge "randomly" drawn. This is a big deal. As the Judge gets to decide all the contours of the case. When it starts (before/after the election). What evidence goes in (will she allow the Attorney Client protected evidence Jack Smith previously got in). What defenses Trump gets to present (i.e ex-Presidents have mind powers to declassify documents in the past). And she has a big hand in selecting the Jury. She can limit the voire-dire process and let in a more pro-Trump juror. Jack Smith should petition to have her removed. 2.) The 11 District Court of Appeals where Florida is in is more conservative. So, any 50-50 appeals or even 40-60 appeals Trump will most likely win. The only upside is that this is going to be a historic case. So everyone should be on their P's and Q's. But again this is the new age Republican party so who knows. 3.) The Jury. Obviously, Trump won Florida. So the jurors will be more conservative. Given the evidence in the indictment, it shouldn't matter who the juror is. But given Judge Cannon may preside, she can limit questioning that may let a Pro Trump shill in who is bent on jury nullification. And it only takes one since the jury has to be unanimous. Lastly, for those arguing this was Biden trying to get Trump. Biden wants to run against Trump. He is the most beatable candidate in the Republican field. And in a normal world, this would hurt Trump's chances. Republicans these days aren't so normal. So who knows what will happen. If the DOJ wanted to help Biden, they would have brought charges closer to the Republican primary after Trump consolidated Republicans or let it linger till after the election. So, square that circle. |
1stGenAmerican:This cannot be a real letter. |
Obrigardo:Hakeem Jeffries said it best. "The Republican Party under Donald Trump and Trumpism has three basic philosophical pillars. One, facts don't matter. Two, hypocrisy is not a constraint to their behavior. And three, they actually believe that shamelessness is a superpower." |
Dems are terrible at messaging. https://washingtonmonthly.com/2023/05/23/why-dont-americans-recognize-that-inflation-is-down-and-incomes-are-up/

Bossly:I would have assumed that replying to the initial post if not spending the time to download Hunter Biden's pic and post them, meant you "cared" about the fellows involved. But, my bad. I was ascribing rational behaviors to clearly an irrational person. |
Putin can't seem to help himself
|
Bossly:The inverse is actually true. The reason Hunter may be in any trouble is because he is the President's son and republicans have decided to politicize his drug addiction. Since drug addiction has become more publicly a white problem, even Republicans are now talking about it as an mental health challenge rather than the criminal activity they used to. Bossly:Again, you seemed to have missed the point of 1stGens post. Republicans have for years wanted to treat drug addiction as a criminal issue. This was the head of the same Republican party who was also an elected official, who has the power to make policy, whose Republican policies have people languishing in jail for minor drug offenses (weed) etc. Not only that he's a leader in the same party that has been ranting about Hunter's drug abuse. It's a statement to Republican hypocrisy. And back to languishing in jail. Because of the fentanyl crisis, America is treating addiction as more of a mental health issue than a criminal one. In fact they are pushing to give out over the counter drugs to reverse overdoses. By your analysis, everyone who goes to the hospital for an overdose should be arrested. They are not. An aside: how funny how these policies have shifted now that it's an issue(the Opioid crisis) that seems to largely affect white people. |

that we are allowed to exchange words with each other on this forum doesn't mean pro-republican/pro-trump arse kissing tinged opinions about Hillary deleting her personal {not official} emails from a private server equates with the fact that trump stole, mishandled and possibly committed espionage by trading classified documents
