I imagine Bill Barr's reign over the Justice Dept. is a good exemplar of how Nigerian's government can be so fuxed up. Fortunately in the US, we have a stronger legal system - judges and jury trials that checked some of these abuses. Bill Barr’s Image Rehab Is KaputIt's a good read. While we are here talking about implied biases, Sly, the moment he's upset gives us a lesson in Tribalism. Imagine, he's only 15 and already comfortable being a bigot.
|
raumdeuter:Won't argue with you as you're not factually wrong though your statement doesn't do Gingrich's role in that saga justice. more Dennis Hastert Matt Schlapp Jerry Fallwell jr. |
Jim Jordon on meet the press. Impressed that Chuck Todd actually hit him with facts rather than let him ramble on with his talking points. Reminds me of discussions on this forum. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QZn_dkYFgOA |
raumdeuter:I think the left mocks the hypocrisy of the right saying they are the party of family values. Ex. Newt Gingrich was having an affair as he was attacking Clinton for having an affair. I think your thesis is overbroad. |
IMAliyu2:I meant tribalism in Nigeria. Mistype. Meant just as Tribalism is still alive and well in Nigeria, Racial bias is alive and well in the US. That there are people who are still alive who went to segregated schools and people still alive who tried to physically prevent people from going to school when they were integrated(Jerry Jones). So, they would have children who were probably thought the same thing. etc. etc. Yeah, has been some good scholarship on that. Here was one. Some of it is obviously wealth or lack of it, but also disparate treatment in law, etc. etc. https://www.aclu.org/sites/default/files/assets/141027_iachr_racial_disparities_aclu_submission_0.pdf |
benalvino3:My point isn't that you were showing off, but that is also my point. My point is that everything is about perspective (bias). To you and your friends, raising those amount of chickens and then giving away isn't a big deal, for some less fortunate than you, they may perceive it as showing off because they couldn't afford to do that. Like the car stories I told. I had the same conversation with friends in Lagos about getting pulled over in Nigeria, told the same stories and they told their own stories. Similar experiences. No one thought anyone was showing off. Everything boils down to perspective and implicit bias. I hope you can understand that. benalvino3:Sorry, Nigeria is much worse than the US. And not everyone is surviving. I'm not sure what metric you are using. And I hope you are saying it's not because of patriotic sentiments. But even more of a reason to visit the US and get more perspective. And I can live in the US, recognize that it affords more economic opportunities than Nigeria, appreciate the opportunities I was blessed with and also not believe I am better than anyone not living in the US or that the US is better than Nigeria. I've never said that, so you should probably stop putting words in my mouth. |
benalvino3:That post was a stream of nonsense. Until you explain why cultural anthropologists go live in the place they are studying, everything else you say sounds silly. One more thing. You regularly post about the chickens you raised. Regularly post about how you give most of them away. So, regularly, I asked you about them. Let me ask you, how is that not showing off esp. given this isn't a chicken topic. Esp. for those that in this time of Nigerian economic distress and food insecurity, those who probably can't afford a chicken? Again how is that not showing off that not only you have so many but that you are so benevolent you can give them out? Again, figure out why me talking about my experience with Naija police has you triggered and feels like me showing off while you talking about all the chickens you have and give away is not. I know the answer. |
benalvino3:Any you know that how? From what experience or understanding are you speaking? None. So everyone who studies topics in University or cultural anthropologists who go live in a place to understand the culture are mumus because they should be like you and just pick up things by osmosis? In your quest to assuage your ego, you make yourself sound uneducated. You shouldn't attack someone then if you can't handle what comes next. But, you're problem seems to be I can afford nicer things. Again, go talk to someone about that. And the time I spent here more than you combined? Lol. Do I need to put up my chart of your online usage again? |
benalvino3:Again, you, basilico and sly, speak with authority about and inundate this board with nonsense about topics like US politics, US racial bias, US racism and what black people face in the US. You don't have a US history degree, have never studied the US and have been to nor live in the US. Where does this authority come from? Nowhere that is. And yet you are trying to tell Nigerians living in the US what their lives are like and disqualify the issues they face. Humble yourself. And as I said. This post below is how it all started. You and your ad hominems and of course your chickens (you see, if I chose to I could be nasty to you, but what does what you do in your spare time have to do with this thread?). benalvino3: |
benalvino3:Stop this silliness. I came to this topic and didn't discuss my personal life. Stayed away from where I went to school, what I do, where I work etc.. When did I start releasing some personal details? When you and your "idiot crew" decided you couldn't make rational arguments and thought ad hominin attacks were easier. I told you then you don't know my type and I would embarrass you with details of my life, if you continued. And yet here we are and here you continue. I'm not like Sly.. who lies with every breath… maybe that's what you're used to. The stuff I say I can verify. And the topic we were discussing were police profiling people driving expensive cars. All the examples I gave were police profiling me and stopping/attempting to stop me while driving an expensive car. I thought the examples perfectly made my point. You should explore maybe with a counselor why someone discussing details like that seems like "showing off" to you. And Honestly, you should reevaluate the people you seek affirmation from. The fact, you seek affirmation from someone who makes usernames and gets banned like he sips water, who viciously attacks people and their families in crude, depraved and disgusting ways, speaks more of you then them. And clearly, you've tried to walk in his shadow; how is that working out for you? But continue talking about my education, or what I do in my spare time, or how much money I have and we'll continue to have conversations when you feel like I'm "showing off". FYI, no amount of gaslighting/revisionist history will change how this began. Your posts are saved here. |
IMAliyu2:Yes, two equally dressed people (you can't really tell rich/poor by appearance if equally dressed and manicured) are in the same situation, the black person will get treated worse in the US. Happens to me all the time. I was in a Staples picking up supplies in a dress shirt and slacks with other white people near me dressed the same way. Some white lady walked up to where I was and asked me if they had some item in stock as if I worked there. Lol. Another perspective. Tribalism is still alive and well in the Nigeria (edited) in this generation. Why wouldn't the same racial tribalism still be around in the US, less than 60 years after the civil rights act was passed. |
benalvino3:I'm speaking of my experience driving expensive cars in Nigeria. I assumed that was the topic you were talking about. From which experience driving expensive cars are you speaking from? Yes, I would have assumed what you thought, but I've had a couple of experiences that taught me otherwise. The only time I think you won't get stopped is when in a convoy of expensive cars w/ a Helix in front. I've been pulled over in the East in my Dad's Mercedes SUV by road safety, while an overloaded bus, with mis-matched tires spewing black smoke was in front of me and didn't get stopped. By you theory who should have road safety pulled over? And as you've mentioned I've been in that dangerous situation (out of movie) where someone attempted to stop me at a checkpoint while I had a mopo/soldier in the passenger seat in a tinted car. They quickly let us pass as the driver slowed down and the mopo opened the window and pulled up his gun. I've been pulled over a couple of times while driving an expensive car in Lagos. I've been pulled over with my girl while she drove her expensive car in Lagos. I drove to the east one year from Lagos and we took my cousin's Sienna instead of a nicer car. And what was funny, though we got pulled over some (Christmas), the guy in front of us, was driving a Brand New red Mercedes GLE. And every checkpoint he would stop, roll down his window, drop cash and drive off. Lol. Because he knew it was more efficient than being forced to stop, arguing your case and saving 1or 2k. We kept laughing everything we saw him do that. The difference from my experience is that they are somewhat more careful pulling over nicer cars. Like I can be somewhat more abusive with them esp. given my accent, because they aren't sure who I am. And as to Dangote, he would most likely be in a convoy with multiple Helixes if he were traveling. |

benalvino3:You should really not speak about things you have 0 experience with. Yes, a black bouncer stopping a black person from entering a high end place in a city like Boston is generally fueled by implicit bias by white racism. Also, you are wrong about luxury cars in Nigeria. Police will pull you over depending on how much money they think they can get from you. So a luxury car = a perception of getting more money. Speaking from experience on both. You seem to speak about a lot of things you have 0 experience with. |
benalvino3:1.) The significant news yesterday was the video drop of the Police beating. The fact that you think whatever CNN did or didn't do is the topic is a reflection on you and the propaganda bubble you live in. 2.) Comparing Implicit bias to climate change.. lol. Well done proving you really don't have a clue what you are talking about. The fact you don't understand why I brought up Nigeria, it's independence and the fact 60+ years later it still have issues, means you really haven't thought at all about why African Americans could still be struggling to reach the same economics levels Caucasians have. You're drifting in a shallow pool of right wing propaganda. 3.) Good job perpetuating the white mythology that African Americans don't deserve equal justice unless they reach some goal White American has set. You should get paid for this level of gaslighting. 4.) Here is another study for you. Physicians and Implicit Bias: How Doctors May Unwittingly Perpetuate Health Care Disparities https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3797360/
|
benalvino3:You act like it's different among Nigerians. Travel with an oyinbo anywhere. In fact just go to the airport and see the long lines for Nigerian Passport holders vs. those without a Passport. Your perspective seems to be limited. |
benalvino3:Let's be clear this discussion is about the police involved killing of a black man. You brought up the issue of black on black violence as a deflection from that topic. The fact that you think the implicit bias shown by black doctors is not related to why black cops would brutally beat a black man shows your lack of depth of this issue. I'll post a clip of a peer reviewed study. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4843483/ Lastly, let me put this in a more as$holy perspective. I live in an affluent neighborhood 15 minutes from the downtown in my city. 9/10 of my neighbors are white. We don't have significant issues of violence, crime etc. What issue effects me more? Being pulled over/beat up driving my "nice" car or some other African Americans killing themselves in the inner city? That's the asshole way of really thinking about it. Simply, why should my ability to protest to the government, issues that most affect my liberties depend on someone else and what they do? And what other community has to argue for their whole community for their rights? The fact you keep making the argument "why aren't we talking about other black on black violence" is in fact an implicit bias you've been trained to believe.
|
benalvino3:To begin, you don't know what I've done or what organizations or programs I've started or am involved in trying to reduce/intervene in black on black/inner city violence. And if you did, you'd probably shut your mouth. But the issue of Black on Black violence is different than violence based on institutional bias/racism. And your argument seems to be, we should be quiet about institutional racism until we wipe out Black on Black violence. How is that different than we should have been quiet about Institutionalized segregation until we had wiped out black on black violence? Or we should have been quiet about slavery until we wiped out black on black violence? Fortunately for you, you and your ilk didn't have that say. Tell me this, Nigeria has been independent for 60 years. Why isn't at the same place (economically and technologically as Western Countries?) It must mean Black Nigerians are not as smart as Westerners right? |
Some of these posters. These cops are a good example of implicit bias. Many studies have been done on it in the health care industry. Speaks to why African Americans get more sub-standard health care than their white counterparts even from African American Doctors. It's part in Parcel of how African Americans are portrayed in the US by largely White media . https://www.americanbar.org/groups/crsj/publications/human_rights_magazine_home/the-state-of-healthcare-in-the-united-states/racial-disparities-in-health-care/ Basilico and benalvino3 are perfect examples of this. They have never stepped foot in the US, don't really know US history but have a bias/angst against Black people because of the all conservative media they consume. It's actually very sad. |
SlyfoxxMadness:Mind Blown. Simple question. How many usernames have you created this week alone? And how many posts do you think you have amongst all those usernames? I'll give you a hint.. much much more than me. Take your own advice. Go live a real life. Stop pretending you're in the UK balling at night with your friends while simultaneously posting here, or pretending you're balling with Big Boys in Abuja while again simultaneously posting here, or as you wrote in one of your nuttier posts, pretending you're surveilling the Oriental Hotel with your DSS friends waiting for me to check in so you can figure out when I'm in Nigeria so you can lock me up. Lol. Just typing that... Holy sh*t you're nuts. |
SlyfoxxMadness:Do you just refresh my profile every minute to know when I post? Isn't this your 4th new username this week (the rest banned) so you can stalk me? You are giving off the same stalkerish vibes as the guy who attacked Paul Pelosi. I hate to see what you are like outside these forums. You're one strange person. Hopefully in 3 years when your 18, you'll look back and be embarrassed by all this. |
Roland17:Great point. Pelosi did an amazing job here on the recorded police call keeping this guy calm and at the same time letting the deputy know he needed help. I'm actually very disappointed at the police response from the recorded call, the fact that the capital should have saw them breaking into Pelosi's home and communicate that to the responding officer and then the subsequent response of the police, seemingly unaware what was going on. And if it were a black male, would they have let that scene play out the same way? Nope. Whether you love or hate her, Pelosi is the 3rd in line to the presidency. Crazy response. |
IjeBos:Following up on this NY times story. Great reporting. The level of abuse of power in this. There are special prosecutors for a reason, to insulate the investigation from the politics of the Justice Department and it's hires like Bill Barr. How does that work when Bill Barr enmeshed himself into the investigation?
|
What an explosive story. The Justice department should open up a separate investigation into Bill Barr and John Durham. So many revelations that need investigation themselves. One being that Bill Barr got a tip himself from Italian investigators that Trump had suspicious financial dealings. What did he do. He "investigated" it himself. Lol. One of the clips. Barr Pressed Durham to Find Flaws in the Russia Investigation. It Didn’t Go Well. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/01/26/us/politics/durham-trump-russia-barr.html?unlocked_article_code=5PvODiwxhjky2RguOLm_8cqQawwtyWsgntznTQV-s_YoBsZx-SL1GHVK1PL0jUYINiofcIaA-BeYqZWY-FeviBuN48TVyV7E5q6r9AITsDnJJHgDJ7-snFojp2hNalWHhpdfOiuqsVEnx0ihJXtzwHq9A_Tbyc57i2HcqMyV-_bTTO3IwxbHAWVZUbN4K15kWorS87zkO6E2GXTR63hKOVUglqtJQCoGfKqlJzZVmtf-FqPTds6bAoB93fBbzqdY4xhhpvatJOtmL9ms6xlcqKyxPbvYgqpiDDg14SiO2L1VLQS8NvIow0S0PXypwUyR3LILhx9Q_oOJlsY_hg

adamusuleiman1:Money is King. Meta is looking at the Revenue Trump brings in running for president. This is another reason why Right walk talk is nonsense, hate drives traffic and so revenue will always win over. |
kkins25:This post; most of your writeup is devoid of any historical context and intellectually dishonest to boot. Google the definition of Conservatism. Conservatism defends the status quo and believes in incremental change if any. The status quo was/and to an extent continues to be anti Black Americans. So you tell me, given the definition of conservatism, what do you think their position would be? And do you think it was conservative minded whites who liberated Black people? Really? That is part in parcel of the intellectual dishonesty I'm talking about. And as to your point about not being part of the "right wing ecosphere because you're an Atheist engaging in sexual immorality". Look at Jerry Fallwell Jr., Matt Schlapp etc.. etc. etc. for examples and tell me what that signifies. Phoniness seems to be a prerequisite for being a leader in the conservative movement these days. |
kkins25:Your description seems myopic. I think you need to think more broadly in terms of liberal vs. conservative. I assume you're a black Nigerian. If you were in the US, which groups protects your right of equality as a black man? What group protects your right of equality as a woman? What group protects the ability to have a reasonable means of living, paid a fair a wage for fair work? And what group protects people, who at times by no means of their own need some help? But you've defined this debate in terms of the culture wars you've heard in your rightwing ecosphere. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Whatsapp were created by liberals, who probably when they were younger stayed up late at night in their dorm rooms talking about dreams of connecting people or increasing debate. The same type of random discussion I would have at 2am in the morning in the common area of my liberal university dorm. But these same people, who created these platforms to increase connectivity and conversation, want to limit speech? In fact I think you need a history lesson in which groups historically tried to limit speech. Google Book Banning to start. The problem is conservatives have decided that limiting violent, abusive, derogatory speech filled with medical misinformation-and lies is somehow an attack on all speech. Just like Sly in this forum. He repeatedly and continuously abuses the rules of this forum and members of it and by doing so impacts the ability of others to participate in this forum. Yet when banned he thinks it's his right to continue doing what he does. Is this forum limiting his free speech by banning him? So, the issue isn't conservatives actually caring about speech, they just want their speech to have more influence and to be protected over everyone else's. Look at what is happening in Florida with AP Black History. Or what is going on with book bannings in the US. |
1stGenAmerican:Welcome to the US in the age of our idiocracy. |
Here is a good write up for those interested in the V.P.'s Declassification powers. Quote from one of the lawyers in the piece. “As a matter of academic constitutional law, there may be a question of whether or not the vice president is in that chain of command that can declassify things,” McClanahan said. “However, as a matter of practice for at least the last ten years, if not much longer, it's been a longstanding practice in the executive branch to say that the vice president has delegated authority from the president and should be treated as pretty much the same.” https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/factcheck/2023/01/17/fact-check-biden-had-authority-declassify-vice-president/11065345002/ |
benalvino3:You're wrong. Go read the Executive Order and show me where it says what you say it does. Edit: I see someone else already pointed this out to you. |
obixcel:1.) Trump has never said he declassified the documents. He had several chances to have his attorneys make that argument in court. They didn't. 2.) The VP as the President has original classification authority. I think Bush made the change to help Cheney. Thanks for playing though. |
