What is my concern based on? Seriously? What thinking human isn't concerned about the effects of what goes into their body?
So I can't be concerned about my diet because not a nutritionist? I can't tell a child not to stare at the sun because I'm not an ophthalmologist?
Comments like this just dey weak me.
Huh? Take a step back and tell me what you are arguing here. I'm not sure you understand the argument you are making. And how far should one take your argument?

There's nothing irrational about having concerns about a vaccine that hasn't gone through the standard testing procedures. Did your friend tell you about the instances of migratory spike proteins created by the vaccine that could lead to myocarditis? Do you realize that your friend works for a pharmaceutical company which based on historical evidence are not above cutting corners for profit?
Listen, she's not only a close friend who I TRUST like a sister, but someone who I also think is BRILLIANT. The type of person who reads articles of her field in the New England Journal of Medicine for fun. So, there is a point where you have to let go and let God or get a PHD or relative expertise in the field so you can argue back. But right now why do you suppose you have the qualification to argue with someone who has spent close to 9 years in top schools studying her craft? Fam, that's ego.

Everyone knows that vaccines are not immune from risks. However, when we have a new vaccine with far less testing than the industry standard, that does not prevent infection or stop the spread of the infection as effectively as say, the meningitis or polio vaccine, a vaccine with an increased occurrence of adverse effects to a demographic with a lower mortality rate to the infection. Maybe people should be allowed to voice their concerns.
Your concerns based on what? Are you a Doctor? An Epidemiologist? A Biologist? Geneticist? A vaccine researcher? What is your concern based on?

No one is arguing anyone shouldn't voice their opinion. That is in itself the scientific method. The problem is people are voicing concerns based on feels.

When the vaccine first came out I wasn't going to take it. I was going to wait 6months to a year to make sure people didn't turn into 4g towers (I jest), but I wanted to make sure it was safe. It wasn't until I spoke with a friend who worked on a team designing one of the vaccines. She was like it's safe, walked me through the science and said she and her husband had gotten it. She has a PHD in this stuff, from what experience would I be arguing with her? It just became an irrational fear at that point.

Do you have some proof for this or are we just making stuff up?

Because the most forms of sexual abuse comes from right leaning and religious folk, who often absolve themselves of responsibility by saying the devil made me do it.
Or they just use portions of the Bible(out of context) or Religious documents to justify it.
And even violence. History is littered with Religious violence. Look at the crusades, shit look at the world we live in now, the Middle East, even what's going on in Nigeria.

The type of religion he speaks of is not representative of the Christianity I know. Look at who he is. The lies the dissembling, the inability to rationalize truth.
And honestly, when I think of the Jesus of the New testament I see that more in the Democratic party. That's why Republicans hate the new Pope.

Nice, maybe it would've been good to actually be able to weigh these options before companies tried to compel people into getting the jab.

Maybe it would've been nice to not censor all forms of covid vaccine skepticism from public discussion.

Maybe it would've been nice to not have branded everybody who wasn't seal-clapping for the next booster shot at anti-vaxxers.
Wait, what? 1.2 Million People died of Covid in the US... so far. There are risks to everything. Have you read the aspirin/Tylenol bottle you take? Vaccines are not immune from risks, but there is a general understanding, for society to continue to exist there are certain risks we all have to share. It sux to say, but at times we have to talk like an adult.

Did you even read the excerpt before posting your pre-programmed response?

The excess cases of myocarditis in unvaccinated men under 40 who contracted covid was 14 per 1 million.

The excess cases of myocarditis in vaccinated men under 40 was 16 in 1 million after a single dose of the Pfizer vaccine and only increased after subsequent doses. It was 97 in 1 million after the second dose of the Moderna vaccine.
You're right. Read it rather quickly. Working on my bike and reply when I'm on my laptop looking for info.
Still doesn't change the thrust of my questions. To do a fair comparison, you would have to compare them to the same group of people with the same repeated amount of covid infections. Do you have the stats with those with the 2nd and 3rd covid infections? For 1st dose the rate is lower than 1st infection. So, what about 2nd dose vs. 2nd infection. Then you ahve to factor in when the immunity from natural infections wane and evaluate the risk of then not getting a 2nd booster shot.

Now compare that to my the rate of myocarditis among those people that caught covid. Now further compare that to the people that didn't get vaccinated, caught covid and died. What point are you trying to prove?

Yeah. In my single days, and having spend a lot of time in Nigeria pre-pandemic, I met a lot of amazing Nigerian women. As we got closer, I heard stories of sexual violence - rape, etc. If I had to estimate 90% of the woman I met had a similar story. The first few times I heard it, I doubted it, but the more I heard, Occam's razor set in. I was shocked at the stories. The stories are heart breaking. Having said that, we all have mother's, maybe sisters, maybe daughters and women we cherish. Let's draw the line at sexual harassment and sexual violence. We should be able to agree on that.

Oh my bad.
Guess I'm in the wrong here.
This is generally the game the American Right plays. You can't win either way. There goal isn't for actual policy enhancements, it's just political theater. So, the right raved about a Chinese balloon in US airspace and elevated to a Tier 1 National Security issue creating fear throughout the country. So, the Admin shoots it down, and then increases the sensitivity of our detection systems (these balloons weren't picked up in the past till after the fact). Now the increased sensitivity leads to the pick up of these floating objects during Superbowl weekend which is already a National Security event. So, put yourself in that situation. What do you do given the public is riled up? Once you detect any object like that and can't immediately identify it, you of course have to shoot it down. So, you've now spent millions shooting down maybe $100 items. But you have to make that decision because Republicans again, played with National security for politics. And what happens next, those same idiots now trash the Admin for being trigger happy and shooting down a probably ~$100 with $400,000 missile. Republicans are a danger to the US.

FYI, if the US can't figure out what an object is. No other country would be able to. We have the best surveillance technology worldwide.

Hahaha. I once posted here that I sometimes get the vibes that America is not too far from a shit hole that Nigeria. But I am taking that back now and apologizing.
Rephrase: alot of Republican states are not too far from a shit hole. In a space of 4 weeks, some republican states legislature rejected bills about letting toddlers and kids have guns (not toy guns ooo) unsupervised, another state legislature rejects bill that will prevent marriage of underage girls, it's on Nairaland foreign section topic that I read about how a Republican politician wanted to throw interracial marriage debate to the supreme Court for review, we all watched how they attacked the Capitol (seat of power in the USA) and many other shithole type vibes.
Nice rephrase. Not sure any place in the US is as bad as places in Nigeria. I did a drive from Abuja to the East, when my plane was re-routed. and there were no flights out. shocked I have never seen such poverty, to be fair most of it was in the Northern part; Mud houses with no windows or doors on main roads. I had never realized how privileged my view of Nigeria was.

That being said, going through some Republican southern states you can feel the entrenched generational poverty, the kind of poverty that wears you down and ages you. Also, I watched that movie "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and the level of poverty there was incredible. Always wanted to see it first hand, but don't want to be accused of "poverty tourism" either.

Yet, these places continue to vote Republican. Look at Ohio's two Senators one D and one R during this train crash. Which one is actually making sense and super concerned about the residents? Sherod Brown. Even writing a letter to the Governor to declare a disaster, whilst the Gov. is saying he trusts the Railroad company enough to let them do the testing. I keep saying, you deserve the government you elect.

There are some posters on this board, who, though they have received their vaccines, have decided to dedicate their time to making sure no one else does and in that vain continue to post incomplete information/mis-information/dis-information.

Here is the article that describes the new study. One of the key findings is that there was a 14% increase in heart attacks during the first year of the pandemic. Yeah, the first vaccine came out after the first year. So, the increase was due to people catching Covid. Now that 14% happened during the lockdown period, imagine what it would have looked like the 2nd year without no lockdown and no vaccine and more people catching covid.

You understand the issue. The train's axle broke, it lost a wheel, the brakes wouldn't even have worked without the wheels, anyway.
So why were you trying to blame this tragedy on a guy who hasn't been in office for over two years?
I believe one axle on one car broke. The train was about 1.9 miles long with about 150 cars. The brakes they have now, activate from front to back. Imagine what could happen if a front brake is stopped suddenly while the rest are moving. Try that on a mountain bike (you'd flip over), in terms of a train, you'd derail. The new system activates all the brakes at the same time.

But having said that, the issue is how the administration dealt with stuff like this. The Trump administration let the industries write the rules/regulations themselves. The classic fox guarding the hen house. In fact some in the Republican party want to get rid of, as some has said, all the 3 letter federal agencies. The EPA has 3 letters and so does FTA. In fact the Conservative Supreme Court just passed a ruling making it harder for the EPA to make rules. And you are sitting here acting as if Biden wasn't around, Republicans would have done better? It's that nonsense that brings the US closer to what the mayhem on Nigerian roads look like. You're form there, is that what you want to see?

Keep playing your soundbite game. Ask yourself what your end goal is. Is it to better understand this issue, understand what both parties believe on the issues, understand how to prevent the issue, or is to come up with soundbites that make you "feel" right?

The regulation that Trump cut back on where fire electronic pneumatic brakes for trains carrying class 3 flammables, this won't have cine into play during the accident.

The accident was caused by a broken axle, which led to a wheel falling off, so in no way did Trump's cut back on regulations come anywhere near to causing this accident.

Biden however, forced striking railway workers back to work. They were on strike because they were understaffed and didn't have enough time to complete tasks, such as safety checks. Biden forced them back into work without addressing this issue, and now when disaster occurred, you started bending over backwards, reaching, lying and coping to blame your ultimate ojuju.
I can't waste my time on debunking all your misinformation in this post. Again, This is a good example of performative politics.
1.) Fill your misinformation gap: There is a good read:
Then came 2017: after rail industry donors delivered more than $6 million to GOP campaigns, the Trump administration — backed by rail lobbyists and Senate Republicans — rescinded part of that rule aimed at making better braking systems widespread on the nation’s rails.

Specifically, regulators killed provisions requiring rail cars carrying hazardous flammable materials to be equipped with electronic braking systems to stop trains more quickly than conventional air brakes. Norfolk Southern had previously touted the new technology — known as electronically controlled pneumatic (ECP) brakes — for its “potential to reduce train stopping distances by as much as 60 percent over conventional air brake systems.”
https://jacobin.com/2023/02/rail-companies-safety-rules-ohio-derailment-brake-sytems-regulations

2.)You talked about Biden forcing workers back to work. Try this.. Figure out what position you think is right. Then, find the Biden position, the Republican position, the bill that passed, who voted for it, and what ended up being the final resolution. Hint: The Resolution was closer to what the train workers wanted which was closer to the Biden position and diametrically opposed to what Republicans wanted, and closer to what you've alluded to that you wanted.

What happened in Ohio is the Republican's worldview. Less regulation and corporate accountability to increase corporate profits, which leads to more things like this happening. In the end the cost of the tragedy is greater than the cost of the regulation would have been (this is going to be at a minimum a 1 billion dollar cost). But it doesn't matter to them, because the underrepresented bear it (by a coming cancer cluster and coming deaths), and the monetary costs are socialized through Federal spending. While people like you play your performative politics and cheer on your team/tribe. Well done.

Edit: This isn't Monday Morning quarterbacking. This was something that was proposed because those scientists and statisticians the right so loves to demean saw it as a distinct possibility. And instead of saying damn, the Trump team was wrong. You're spinning in pretzels.

To add insult to injury(probably because the Lawyers advised against it), the Railroad Company wouldn't even show up at the town hall meeting to answer questions from residents. Nigeria type nonsense.

I'm nearing the place where I'm like "oh well... you elected those leaders". STD's running rampant because states are cutting funding for medical care, kids walking down the street with assault weapons, 13 year old's working, Governors allowing train companies to dump their maybe cancerous cargo to open up the train tracks, and I'm sure coming soon transmissible diseases like polio on the upswing because people don't believe in vaccinations anymore.
