CoolUsername:So I generally care about issues that affect me. I'm Nigerian and American. So Nigerian, American and the intersection of Nigerian/American issues affect me. And what do you know, this is a US Politics thread on a Nigerian site. Let me ask you, why are you here? |
wirinet:The conservatives/liberal labels are problematic, as they are relative. A Massachusetts Conservative - Republican governor like Charlie Baker is probably an Alabama Liberal or Dem. As to the Original Abortion Ruling Roe v. Wade. That decision was 7-2. With 5 justices appointed by Republican Presidents joined with 2 Dems ruling for it and one nominated by a Republican and one by a Dem against. So yes, this MAGA version of conservatism is more extreme than those Republicans in 1973. |
CoolUsername:It's odd, you drink from the well of people who hate people who look like you. And worse you spew their propaganda as if you think being around them they would see as that different/good Negro. Actually being Nigerian and the way they see Africa, they'd see you as some AIDS infected malnourished immigrant, from that shithole country. Good luck rationalizing to them you think it's a shithole country too. As to Ilhan Omar, what is your guiding thought process as thy she was kicked off the committee? Is it people who have said antisemitic things shouldn't have committee assignments? If so, explain why Ms. Jewish Space Lazer MTG and Mr. White National Gosar have committee assignments. I don't mind discussing with anyone. But those discussions have to be rooted in intellectual honesty. And a lot from the alt right sycophants seem to be rooted in simple sound bites. |
CoolUsername:Whenever I log on there, there are users like you that make me so disappointed in Nigeria. Colonialism really did a number on the country. |
CoolUsername:A lot of the things she says I agree with. I think the Jewish lobby has undue sway in the US largely because of money and I don't think it's Anti-Semitic to question US policy on Israel and Palestine. Trump can call a whole country like Nigeria a shit hole, where were you then? |
CoolUsername:Listen, you are repeating and thus propagating racist meme's and tropes. The usage of the word is in fact offensive. It's partially derived from mocking African Americans, that they can't speak English properly. |
ono:What are you celebrating? That a black Muslim was kicked off her committee? Or a black Muslim was kicked off her committee who was speaking out on the apartheid government in Israel? Isn't this part of the racial bias we were discussing on this thread. You can speak at a White Nationalism convention, say Jewish people have space lasers and get rewarded with plum committee assignments, yet it's the minority who gets kicked off their committee? |
CoolUsername:Why even continue to propagate racist tropes? |
Enugurangers:This is our government. Expect more crazy talk from her. Unfortunately whatever lies she concocts and disseminates while in a Hearing is protected by the speech and debate clause. Thomas Jefferson said it best, "The government you elect is the government you deserve". Fortunately I have my Nigerian citizenship if I need to skip town.. Nigeria just needs to get itself together. |
For all those "Biden is responsible for increased gas prices". This always seem to be the MO. Republicans get their voters to parrot propaganda that shifts blame from those responsible. So, nothings gets changed, no legislation (windall profit tax, gas price caps) gets passed and Republican voters who are generally poorer, bear the brunt and get angry. Republican leaders, fan that anger, blame Dems and their voters reelect them. Rinse Repeat. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/01/27/big-oil-earnings-preview-energy-giants-to-smash-annual-profit-records.html

Read this last night. It seems the premise we used while discussing this may not be accurate. It seems historically, the percentage of children born out of wedlock in black communities has decreased. But, the percentage of black women getting married and black married childbirth has also decreased. That makes the black out of wedlock birthrate look higher. Interesting analysis on the reasons behind the numbers, not sure I'm sold on their conclusions though. https://www.brookings.edu/research/an-analysis-of-out-of-wedlock-births-in-the-united-states/ |
Also found this data. Seems black woman are having less babies out of wedlock than their ancestors as you would say. Seems the 90's ushered in a drop. Trusting Ta-Nehisi Coates for the data. From this article (Pay link, but kinda cheated, feel somewhat bad). https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:bW0WYKwInGAJ:https://www.theatlantic.com/sexes/archive/2013/06/understanding-out-of-wedlock-births-in-black-america/277084/&cd=1&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=us

raumdeuter:I'm assuming, the high rates of incarceration due to disparate laws and sentencing, the inability to find work due to structural racism and even the fact woman have become more successful and are capable of being primarily the breadwinner. But again, would want to see data, and some research on all this. But, think ur analysis doesn't fully explain it. In my circle: I have one guy who is very successful who had a child with a woman he didn't marry because he didn't want her getting half of everything he worked for if they got divorced. He's Nigerian. Another guy, who's g/f didn't want to get married. Not even sure the reason. Have houses and 2 kids together. Both very successful. He's Nigerian. And a female friend, again very successful, just focused on career and had a kid recently, with a sperm donor. Actually to think of it I have maybe 4 female friends like that. Either a sperm donor or a guy who eventually became a sperm donor if you know what I mean. One's Nigerian and the others African American. And all these people have been excellent parents. I would love to see what the rates of child birth outside of wedlock are in Nigeria as well. Seems higher than I would think. |
raumdeuter:I'm not arguing there isn't an issue with African Americans having children out of wedlock, and effects it has on children growing up. I just think the issue more complex than what you are making it out to be here. |
IMAliyu2:Of course, but that's also people don't delve into understanding biases in the US. Ex. My ex was applying to jobs in white shoe law firms and she sent in two applications. One with her Nigerian name and one with her Italian middle name. Guess which one got called for an interview. And those same biases can be seen in standardized testing because people don't have the same cultural reference. |
raumdeuter:You are minimizing the African American condition during and prior to that 50 year period. For reference the civil rights act was enacted in 1964 which outlawed discriminatory practices in Southerner States. If you can find any stats that African Americans were doing better prior to1960, you'd have an arguable point. |
saxywale2:Exactly, I even think affirmative actions is necessary. It just wreaks of this bias that somehow black people aren't adequate or deserving of their placements with or without affirmative action. I wonder if there were hiring shenanigans that let that white guy through. |
CoolUsername:I guess you're missing my point. If you remove all the crime hotspots from all the states, it would seem Red States would still have a higher murder rate, maybe even higher given some of these blue states have a higher population in these hotspots (cities). So, how would that align with your theory? |
benalvino3:There it goes.. As I said, figure out why you hate yourself and feel inadequate that you project it on to others. People like you hurt black people more than some racists can. I'm going to post these stats, not because I give a f* about what you think but because someone may read this and think Black people can't be equal or as smart as white people and disqualify them or their accomplishments. You're not well. These were my stats when I applied. SAT- 99% percentile. Perfect Math Score. SAT II - 99% in Chem, Math Level II, Latin, French AP exams - 5 in Calc BC, Chem, Physics, US Government; 4 in English/Lit, French, Humanities, Was on the Dean's List every semester. National Honor Society Multiple Awards on Award night Headmaster's Award Public Speaking Award Student Council President Academic Scholarship School Math and Chem team. Programming Competition Honorable mention. Mayors Youth Council Doesn't include all my extra-curricular activities. Sports. Community groups I founded, corporate work experience (Fidelity Bank Intern, State Street Bank Intern), classes and programs I took at MIT, etc etc. Now talk to me again about simply being an affirmative action candidate. |
And for the record, I believe the US has one of the lower rates for child molestation/sexual abuse in the world. The US has very strong laws/enforcement (i.e sex offenders having to register and let their whereabouts be known). While I believe Nigeria's rate is much higher. I think I saw a study at some point. If you care more than just paying lip service and using it for political machinations, I would focus on you own country, Nigeria and it's very very real problem with child sexual abuse (not that any sexual abuse isn't worth being concerned about). |
benalvino3:Replying to you literally makes me stupider. Look at the your last few exchanges. It's like elementary school and gives credence to the quote "Never wrestle with a pig because you'll both get dirty and the pig likes it." You really need to get yourself together and put away all that childish stuff you think is impressive and impresses the the likes of sly et. al. Enjoy your dirt. Pax |
saxywale2:Exactly. |
CoolUsername:I'm not sure I understand your point. Is it gang violence? Those other areas have gangs too, no? Is it Black people joining gangs? Those other places have black people too, no? Given that all states have both gangs and black people (some with even bigger urban centers), what would make Red state's murder rates higher? |
CoolUsername:You mean like the Patriot Act that Republicans pushed after 9/11? You should probably write a cheat cheat for what you are for and against and which party supports it, so you can refer to it when making arguments. |
benalvino3:Being called dumb is actually a compliment from someone like you. I'm blessed everyday that my worldview will never align with yours. As, I keep saying to and Sly sort out why you hate yourself and people that look like you. |
benalvino3:This is the idiotic stuff people like you say and do, which has become part of the right ring propaganda bubble... This attack on education and knowledge that keeps you always sounding so stupid, uninformed and making the dumbest arguments (like booster shots give you covid). You attack the things you are jealous of, because of insecurities you're too weak to face. I'm sure when you look for a dentist you go to mechanic to pull your tooth or find one who graduated last in his class in the worst rated school. No, you find the best educated and most talented person out there you can afford. Harvard not only affords the best talent pool, but also because of it's resources allows us the best facilities to train in. As if going to Harvard will ever be something I'm not proud of. You'd wish you or your children were ever so lucky. But being who you are.. they won't be. |
CoolUsername:You mean the intelligence Dick Cheney manipulated? It's always amazing when Republicans vote for crooks, the crooks do crookish stuff, then they act like it wasn't their fault the crookish stuff happened. And yes, even if it was the actual intelligence agency that was wrong on Iraq(it wasn't it was Dick Cheney), any US president would still have to trust them over a homicidal asshole like Putin. |
benalvino3:We don't have sharia law here and we leave education up to educators. But your welcome to gauge US educational test scores with that of Nigeria. FYI, by your theory of explicit content or sexual acts being banned, the Bible would also be banned. Maybe you would like to explain to me why the Bible is ok to be in school libraries but not other books like Sula or the Bluest Eye? As I said before, spend less time on ad hominin attacks and more on refining your arguments and challenging your biases. |
raumdeuter:Your historical context is off. Most of these policies were used to prevent African American woman from receiving Aid. If I remember correctly the policy you're speaking about refers to substitute fathers - fathers living in households that weren't the biological father. |
saxywale2:I can't even be shocked about what comes out of his mouth anymore. |
For those arguing Conservatives don't believe in Censorship. Hide your books to avoid felony charges, Fla. schools tell teachers
|
CoolUsername:Everyone has implicit biases, things we picked up unbeknownst to us. Generally you get a glimpse of it when someone gets mad and reverts to what is base to them(ex. racism, tribalism. etc etc). The key is picking up on them and working them out. |
