The West continues to impress me with their meritocratic mindset. If you want be Scottish, American, Japanese...whatever...If you can do the job and perform, you will be hired and honoured at the highest levels. Thats why the US can make a man with a Kenyan father President. Meanwhile we small-minded Nigerians engage in small-minded tribal warfare like cave men fighting for meat. 40 Likes 5 Shares |

I had a mentor who within five minutes of meeting anyone could conclude if they were forthright or dishonest. I'm not sure how he did it but he was always right. Some people call it intuition, others call it emotional intelligence. In a country like Nigeria, i call it the most critical criteria for leadership. Nigerians should stop debating about how many degrees presidential candidates have. The ability to spend time with a special adviser, Minister, Governor etc in EXCO meetings and intuitively know that the person is not straightforward is the most powerful skill in a country like Nigeria. I actually believe our dear President has a good heart but a simple mind. He is surrounded by corrupt self-serving advisers and he unfortunately doesn't have the EQ to smell the rats in the room. Please lets park all the educational qualifications and lets focus on strong leadership with zero tolerance for mediocrity. |

Why didn't he just name the Foreign Governments - They already tried to overthrow you, so why not just expose them? |

Please apart from educational qualifications, what has she achieved for common Lagosians in the last decade? Not being critical - I just don't know...so educate me |

These are the life lessons I have learnt from our commander-in-chief 1. I now believe that patience, loyalty and humility can take you to the highest level in your society, company or political life. 2. I have learnt that money does not guarantee competence 3. I have decided that before I teach my children about academic pursuits, I will teach them the basic principles of leadership and self-sacrifice 4. I will deepen my religious studies especially as it concerns the relationship between Christ and Judas the Disciple; realizing that the ones closest to you may be the ones doing you the most harm 5. I will pick advisers that have no "Personal Interest" in the outcome of policy decisions. 6. I will not listen to friends and family to assess how i'm performing - I will walk the streets, engage the common man and hear their cry 7. I will not respond to every single criticism thrown my way - the man on a mission does not stop at every junction to argue with madmen 8. I have learnt that propaganda as a political tool is no longer as powerful in this information age (twitter, blogs, etc) - the strongest popularity tool is concrete achievements - REAL achievements. 9. I am as powerful as the quality of advisers and spokesmen I surround myself with. Mediocre advisers = Mediocre performance 10. It is possible that in attempting to reward someone, we could promote them beyond their competency. 2 Likes |

Management Consultants getting desperate with their rankings and publications. This is PR spinning 101 gone wrong. A "world class" Consulting firm once wrote an epistle on the "Amazon of Nigerian Banking" - six months later, said Amazon's bank was taken over by AMCON and hundreds of her properties seized. When there is progress no consultant has to tell you, even your competitors will sing your praises. Ask any Governor today - from APC, PDP, Labour etc if they have performed better than Fashola and they will admit that all politics aside, BRF has performed better than any Governor today. That is why the man can drive himself around Lagos without siren and without fear of trouble. He has performed and the people and even his enemies admit it. We Nigerians just want progess, we don't want to read rankings from people who are themselves conflicted and seeking Govt projects. 3 Likes |

The article below is written by Samuel López De Victoria, Ph.D. Does it remind you of OBJ? I admire OBJ as a leader, soldier and politician but i'm worried he may have an illness that he is not aware of: "Narcissism, in lay terms, basically means that a person is totally absorbed in self. The extreme narcissist is the center of his own universe. To an extreme narcissist, people are things to be used. It usually starts with a significant emotional wound or a series of them culminating in a major trauma of separation/attachment. No matter how socially skilled an extreme narcissist is, he has a major attachment dysfunction. The extreme narcissist is frozen in childhood. He became emotionally stuck at the time of his major trauma of separation/attachment. In my work with extreme narcissist patients I have found that their emotional age and maturity corresponds to the age they experienced their major trauma. This trauma was devastating to the point it almost killed that person emotionally. The pain never was totally gone and the bleeding was continuous. In order to survive, this child had to construct a protective barrier that insulates him/her from the external world of people. He generalized that all people are harmful and cannot be trusted. The protective insulation barrier he constructed is called a false persona. He created a false identity. This identity is not the true person inside. The many types of false personas or identities that an extreme narcissist creates can vary. Some narcissists may have the ability to change into a variety of identities according to the situation. The wounded child inside may choose to present a front as a “bad ass” and tough individual. He may look, by appearance, intimidating and scary to the average person. He could also play the “nice guy/person” whom everyone likes. A corporate type version can be one that is diplomatic, proper, and appearing to care but in reality does not. Another very likeable extreme narcissist can be the one that chooses the comedian role. He is the life of the party and has everyone in stitches, making them laugh constantly. Everyone wants to include this person because they are a lot of fun. Try to get close or ask personal questions as to how he is internally doing and feeling and you will find is that he will quickly distract you. They will sidestep the question with another joke, making you suddenly forget what you were asking. Narcissists can be very skilled at dodging and ducking personal questions. If you press them, they will then slot you as “unsafe” and will begin to avoid you and exclude you from their life. There is also the success oriented narcissist. She will be your friend and keep you close to her as long as you are useful. Once you do not have anything more to offer and she has taken all they wanted from you, you are history. You are no longer desired, wanted, or sought. I remember a significant half dozen of these in my life. One narcissist in particular avoids me like the plague because he knows that I do not ultimately plan my life around whether people like me or not. Hence my behavior cannot be controlled by him. He is threatened by my self-assuredness. I’m not safe to him. It does not matter that I have helped him in critical moments of his life. When he realized that he could not control me to make him look good when I was with him, he dropped me like a heavy weight. I received no more phone calls and was taken off his radar screen. Another extreme narcissist stopped calling me when I got my Ph.D. I believe that, in his insecurity, he could no longer look “better” than me and be the focal person. As a result, he felt threatened that I had a more powerful image than he did. I think it is silly because I do not care about whether people have degrees to validate their intrinsic value as a human being. In my ministerial past, I have had several colleagues that I considered to be like blood brothers. We had sworn honesty and loyalty to each other. Once I opened up my weaknesses to them and then asked them to reciprocate, they looked for excuses to label me and reject me. The more I pressed them about their lack of being forthcoming and failing at their own promise of commitment to the friendship, the more vehement they became at avoiding disclosure of their warts to me. Of course, I already knew many of their flaws and already had no problem accepting them. Now it was their turn and they shut down and put up the thick wall. This is what genuine narcissists do. This is sad but it happens all the time with individuals that are scared to go down the road to becoming whole and healthy. It is like going under the knife of a surgeon. When there is a legitimate organic threat as with a malignant tumor, it can be hard to submit to the truth and then the treatment. This, however, is a door to a better life" |

The real Yoruba people have no issues with the Igbo. Sadly it is the Igbo that are chasing shadows with the Yoruba. Our head of budget in Lagos for many years is an Igbo man. In Lekki, our prime residential area - we have gladly named 60% of the streets after our Igbo brothers. We love their intelligence, their business savvy and their attitude...we welcome them even if this is not reciprocated in the East. You see the Yorubas see the bigger picture. Only bushmen believe in tribal warfare.... 7 Likes |

Nogen: Mental Laziness from INEC. And we wonder why despite being the "biggest economy in Africa" - the average Nigerian hasn't seen the benefits. You know why? the better we get, the more our borders are infiltrated by neighbouring Africans to enjoy our facilities. That's how Sawyerr flew in with Ebola to come and enjoy our medical services and tried to destroy us in the process. 10 Likes |

My experience this weekend at an INEC booth was deeply worrying. While eligible Nigerians were too busy chasing money, getting ready for the Experience concert etc, my registration booth was full of citizens of neighbouring countries trying their hardest to get their hands on a Voters card - which has become the standard ID for Nigerians that want to open bank accounts, purchase phones, rent homes etc. Indeed it is a direct path towards getting a Nigerian Passport. My PVC process took about 45 minutes and I took time to "chat" with my fellow "voters" . 9 out of 10 claimed they were from "Lagos" but the accents were too strong to be Lagosians. I asked which local government area they were from and what area in Lagos they grew up etc - and these Niger/Chad citizens were as confused as a rabbit in a suit. I challenged the INEC officials and their response was -"uncle, they just told us to register anyone who comes o!"- Homeland security is finished...and we wonder why BH is winning the war? 22 Likes 3 Shares |

These look like the folks I saw on the PVC queue in Lagos recently. Unfortunately, as a result of extreme corruption, we have some of the most porous borders in the world. Half the "northerners" we see in Lagos today are from Niger and Chad. They are all registered voters. INEC doesn't ask you to prove your citizenship before issuing you with a government document. The problem of terror will worsen as these guys infiltrate our society. Border Control and Immigration are sleeping. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Orikinla: Ol boy...I tire o. Commander-in-Chief sadly has advisers with a limited IQ. Their flawed argument is that the best way to defeat terror is by carrying on with scheduled appointments so that BH doesn't feel that they have shaken the government....rubbish. His advisers simply do not understand the common man and the voting populace. We are tired of seeing innocent women and children slaughtered by Boko Haram!!!!
