Loved them both. Its amazing that PHCN/NEPA and greedy banks have killed so many viable business ideas. Judging by the number of NLs dreaming about these biscuits, the business is sub-optimal because of zero infrastructure and SME credit support in Nigeria. Meanwhile Mcvities Digestives are on about the 3rd generation of loyal consumers today. Great shame. |
Elueme: The activities of CBN need to be investigated. Sanusi has turned that bank to northern's affairs. I am not insinuating and neither do I like tribal sentiment but it is the simple truth. I have two relatives in top managerial positions, one has been due for a director and the other for assistant director since ages but Sanusi persistently say there is no vacancy but outsiders most of whom are northern extracts come to occupy these positions why these men and women who have spent good number of years building the bank are short changed. This is my fears with CBN autonomy, Sanusi has become a monster to staff who are not in hs cabal. There is no transparency in employment, spending and promotion at that bank.. I support the revisiting of the autonomy granted that bank. CBN should have a regulator, not necessarily to order it but for checks and balance.I feel for your relatives as i'm sure they have worked hard over the years. However, let's not allow sentiments to cloud our judgement. Please who are these mysterious northern directors that have been appointed? I know of a number of "externally appointed" directors and none of them are from the North; they are either South east or South west. You dont have to mention names, just state the departments they run if you have any information contrary to what i have said. I encourage you to go and read some of Sanusi's old writings during the June 12 debates, where he attacked the Nothern dominated military and campaigned that Presidency should be given to the rightful winner of an election (south west). When we want to hang a dog, we should not give it a bad name first. |
Clearly a sponsored article in the Vanguard. Since when did "graduating between 1983 and 1987" give anyone the right to be a Director? Where were all these "brilliant people" when the entire banking system was being run into a hole a few years ago? I'm sure many were Bank Inspectors and Auditors and saw nothing wrong with the games being played with depositors money. Now they are asking for promotions?? Please! |

Time to dust up the old blue passport and jet outta here. Two steps forward and 10 backwards |
Goes to show how pedestrian the people behind Mr Presidents communication management are. I was part of a contingent that attended a meeting with the Lagos State Governor in Alausa two years ago. He had a good percentage of his cabinet in attendance. ALL phones were switched off/handed in before the Governor was cleared to walk in. These are simple protocols that one must establish to have useful meetings in Nigeria. Why on earth is it news? Besides, there is a problem when you're meeting with the President of Nigeria and feel there is a more important call to make or sms to send. |
As i watched this clip, i couldnt help but remember New Jack City and Nino Brown: "I'm not guilty. You're the one that's guilty. The lawmakers, the politicians, the Columbian drug lords, all you who lobby against making drugs legal. Just like you did with alcohol during the prohibition. You're the one who's guilty. I mean, c'mon, let's kick the ballistics here: Ain't no Uzi's made in Harlem. Not one of us in here owns a poppy field. This thing is bigger than Nino Brown. This is big business. This is the American way...." . Lets see how this one ends.... |
Lordave: Johnny EnglishNow...Police Academy is a classic! how could i forget that? |
I havent watched a movie in a while but these remain my top classic picks: 1. Coming To America 2. The Fokkers 3. Something About Mary 4. The Hangover 5. Animal House |
1. No Electricity? - Get a 27 KVA Generator 2. Bad Roads? - Get a 4x4 SUV 3. No Security? - Get a MOPOL detail or two to accompany you everywhere 4. No Healthcare? - Have an air ambulance on standby for German medical treatment 5. No pipeborne water? - Get a Borehole 6. Unreliable Aviation sector? - Get a private Jet (flying commercial is so out-dated) Nigeria - the ultimate illusion of a normal society... |
A popular mall in North London was raided "Okada style" today. Source is BBC Armed robbers on motorbikes raid Brent Cross jeweller Six people on three bikes rode through the centre Robbers armed with axes and bats rode motorbikes into an indoor shopping centre in north London and raided a jewellery store. Six people on three bikes targeted Fraser Hart in Brent Cross Shopping Centre at 10:15 GMT. The pillion passengers got off the bikes and smashed the windows, leaving with a haul of watches and jewellery. They fled towards Hendon Central. The bikes were found abandoned soon after near a golf course. 'Locked in' No-one was injured in the raid but an elderly man was treated for shock at the scene. The raid happened 15 minutes after the centre opened to shoppers for the day. Three pillion passengers ran to the jewellery store and broke the windows Eyewitness Claire Smalley said: "We looked out and we saw six men, two on each bike, pull up outside Fraser Hart and then they pulled out an axe and they were getting into Fraser Hart and telling everyone to stay back." Sue Bangs from Hertfordshire, who was in John Lewis at the time, said: "It was very frightening. I could not believe it was happening. "All the shops suddenly put down their shutters and we were locked in for a while. My heart was pounding." Witnesses said the robbers appeared to have targeted Cartier and Rolex watches in the shop along with some other jewellery. The area of the shop that was targeted has been sealed off. Police believe the bikes pulled up at the entrance next to New Look where the pillion passengers got off and ran towards the ground-floor jewellers and broke the display windows. They then ran back to the waiting motorbikes and fled. Police said they found the bikes about 15 minutes later on Ashley Walk in Mill Hill. The suspects were dressed in dark clothing and were wearing crash helmets with the visors down. Det Supt Mark Strugnell said: "We are appealing to anyone who may have seen the sequence of events at the shopping centre, which had only just opened its doors to its first shoppers only moments before, and to anyone who may have seen the three motorbikes being driven from Brent Cross to Mill Hill."

shymexx: PS: I'm not supporting FFK - but your rebuttal was too simplistic and it looked like something copied and pasted from CNN's website(no pun intended)... I expected something better from you, sir.@Shymexx...After reading your submission half-way i got more and more confused as to which side of the fence you stood as you are arguing for both sides. I find it difficult to engage with people that cant "pick a lane".I was therefore going to accept that you and I see things differently and move on. I however find your reference to "copy and paste" from CNN extremely offensive as it carries connotations of plagiarism (something that i take very seriously). Nothing in my submission is rocket science, anyone who did High School Geography knows about Hurricane seasons. Anyone who follows politics and diplomatic etiquette knows there is nothing wrong with Presidents bowing to royalty. Anyone who studied History will know that there have been many great orators who are not anti-christs, so what exactly is a cut and paste from CNN?? - You see sir, if you find my writing style simplistic, it is what it is. I dont believe in writing long grammar to prove a point that i am educated (and lose my audience in the process). If you want to sit behind a laptop and make such heavy accusations of plagiarism without any evidence or facts, it just shows why you are so aligned with the type of reasoning that people like Fani-Kayode engage in. Good luck. |
ogugua88: Which couple of points? That hurricane season has always coincided with elections? Or that President Obama bowed below the "Now entering Muslim-style bow" line? ![]() |
shymexx: Both the guy you quoted and FFK's epistle belong to the trash can...Now you've lost me sir. Please explain. |
Make sure you marry your true friend who makes you laugh....everything else will work out. |
KINGwax: well, mr once upon a time, there's no where in the bible dt claims it's ABOMINABLE for a woman to preach. But because women has used the opportunity to air their biased they, talk abt their marital status, used it to poke people who they had in mind, name names, cause all manner of rift, there was a law to ban them from preaching. It was concluded by the elders that anythin they have to say shld be voiced to her husband or elders who will properly put it in reference to her. It is still happenin now, lady preachers are too feminine in their preachin and u knw it.Wow! Your response speaks volumes...and you see why people like @UNURMIND have issues with so called Christians of today. A man opens his heart that he was once a Christian and got frustrated with the hate around him. Your response should not be to judge him and spread rumours of perverts etc as you have done above , your response (if you are practicing the same Christianity as i am) is to find a way to encourage him back on the right path....am i missing something? |
inurmind: Well, I was a serious christian before. But after studying the bible and the world around me, I concluded that it false. My brother, please please please, dont give up. There is a lot of nonsense in the Churches today i agree with you, a lot of hypocrites, too much discrimination and hate, but you know deep down as i know that his name remains "powerful" o. Keep your eyes focused on the goal and immerse yourself in the Word. Dont be distracted by the evil done by man around us. You will make it bro. |
I hope there is an error and this very narrow minded analysis didnt really come from the lips of one of our leaders? Let me share a few points so that readers are not misled: 1. Claim that American Presidents dont bow etc....please go and watch decades of footage of what US Presidents do when they meet the Queen of England. Pictures dont lie. 2. Israel and Palestine claim - No President fought for the recognition of Palestine as much as Bill Clinton - its a historical fact. What has Obama said or done about the region that Clinton didnt say or do? i dont get it. 3.why are there hurricanes and natural disasters during Obama's campaign - kindly note that Hurricane season in the US falls in the last quarter of the year...same time that campaigns intensify for the November election...its not rocket science. 4. Obama is a strong orator so he is evil? - emm, like Winston Churchill, Martin Luther King and Bill Clinton right? This point is so weak it may not deserve a comment 5. supporting a womans right to choose termination (in cases of rape, incest, abuse, deformity etc) and other liberal positions were not invented by Obama sir. For those who dont understand every party has a manifesto and the President serving under the flag of that party promotes the manifesto. The democrats are "liberal" on such issues and have always been. Same way the republicans believe all Americans should own weapons and kill trespassers on sight! who is more evil? 6. I'm lost as to how Boko Haram etc is Obama's fault - is the writer for real? 7. Obama is responsible for the economic crisis?? Have you forgotten that George Bush wrecked the US by spending billions upon billions on fighting a fake war in IRAQ, Afghanistan while the real terrorists -Osama Bin Laden was in Pakistan? Now answer the following: 1. Obama took out Osama Bin Laden in one of the bravest operations ever sanctioned by a US President. Osama's body was dumped at sea (considered an insult by muslims). Is this what islamic fundamenatists do?? 2. Obama's administration sponsored covert operations in North African states to support the "Arab Spring" - Libya<Egypt, Tunisian dictators were removed without the US firing one bullet. These were some of the worst dictators of our time and were all strategically removed via CIA, FBI "covert" operations instead of a full blown war as George Bush would have done. is this what an evil man does? 3. The US job market, Stock Market and industries such as the Auto industry are better off than when Bush left office. Statistics dont lie. So why was this not mentioned. I'm not an expert on schizophrenia but the article reminded me of the type of drug-infused delusional schizophrenic articles a course mate used to write back in University. It really is misleading and not fact based. |
was madam "questioned"? by the Met? a subtle difference exists between being arrested and questioned. Who knows! |
ubandire: Wanted to do some clarifications but discovered in the course of reading through that's certainly one the dumbest arguments I've ever come across. These desperadoes will stop at nothing to discredit this govt, even in the face unprecedented achievements.Sir, i have no "personal interests" in this Government - i'm not a contractor or a psychopant. All i want is a simple, secure airport terminal for my travels. What exactly have i said that is untrue (i often worry when people abuse instead of articulating their thoughts with facts).I await your eye-opening response. |
And i expect to wake up one day with a billion dollars in my account. Mr President, thats not how medals are won. Lets mainatain the stadia, target a few sports and build sport academies to support them, pay premium for some of the best coaches the world can offer, get cracking with a plan and stop expecting. |
Why cant i stop laughing?...Why?? |
daywatcher: how many conveyer belts are there now? This is the most brilliant question so far!!! Honestly those Abuja folks know us Nigerians well. They "package" a shiny building exterior and all of a sudden accolades start flying out from everywhere. Next thing GCON, GCFR, Honorary Doctorates etc. They have been swindling us for 50 years and Nigerians (3rd generation) are still falling for it. For me,I'm not impressed with all the "shine shine" effects when the practicals have not been addressed. I use that airport twice a week and have done so for the last year. I urge everyone that has the opportunity to go and get a close up look at the "Made in China" effort. For example: 1. As asked by @Daywatcher - where are the new conveyor belts?? 2. When are we launching the full body scan machines to curb terrorist attacks (they were bought for millions of dollars and dumped years ago) 3. When will the security personnel be trained on how to scan hand luggage properly (they allow liquids and pastes of any quantity in hand luggage) 4. Why are people STILL not allowed in the waiting area to welcome passengers (Nigeria is the only country in the world where that happens) 5. In 2012, why have the building designers installed about 20 panasonic ACs hapharzardly in the new wing instead of installing a single central AC unit?? If Palms mall etc can install a central ac to cool a mall, why cant the FGN install one for its airport? 6. Why cant the designers install non-slip commercially enforced tiles? It was raining a couple of days ago and as we came into the hall from the tarmac, people were slipping on the "shine shine " tiles like it was an Ice-Rink. Please let me stop here as there are too many issues, but final point - we must not accept mediocre performance from our leaders. Our projects rank as some of the most expensive in the world, so we must have 100% implementation...no less. |
berem: I also heard Ijebu people are fuccking stingy especially their men.how true is it?LOL!.... I have a very large family with plenty of inter-marriage so I thank God for the exposure its given me to every region in Nigeria and beyond. otherwise i would have believed all the childish and ignorant stereotype stories that some jobless people spread. For example - 1. Ijebus are Misers 2. Calabar people are promiscious and eat dogs (404) 3. Ibo people can sell their mothers for money and make lousy tenants.4. Auchi people are violent and wicked 5. Hausa people are all Islamic fundamentalists etc etc. The above and many more belong on the lips of the ignorant so i advise you form your own opinions of people via interaction versus 3rd hand opinions. |
Ijebu State as a concept in itself is pointless and flawed. This is a complete waste of time, resources and money. The only beneficiaries are the political elite who by continiously fragmenting Nigeria, ensure that we citizens can never unite to steer the ship in one direction. We dont need more states, we need a leaner approach to governance based on regions instead of states and no more than 12 core Ministries. Our constitution requires each state to produce a Minister...so with the new states, come new ministries.... What a complete farce. |
A unique debate occured over the weekend. A friends father advised against the eating of sacrificed Sallah meat by Christians. He is a great respecter of all religions but the analogy he shared was that Christians should not eat sacrificed sallah meat just as Moslems should not be expected to drink communion wine. I had never given it much thought as i have both Christians and Moslems in my family. He has however raised an interesting perspective on the matter. |
cap28: MKO Abiola humble ? So humble that after financing the military coup that removed Buhari he got involved in a power tussle over whoPlease see my response to XXXXdestroyer which responds to most of your issues. I also heard a lot of Pub Foklore (or as they call it in Nigeria - "Beer Parlour Gist" as to MKO - stealing ITT money etc...but till today no one can articulate intelligently how exactly one Nigerian employee could loot money via a Multinational like ITT without going to jail)...for those who dont know ITT was bigger than Verizon, AT&T etc of today...what exactly happened that Billions ended up in MKO's account? Can someone please articulate it factually without blabbing about what Fela said on his album? I also heard the pub folklore about MKO holding money for Samuel Doe, Abacha, IBB etc etc...how can i possibly debate these peppersoup joint stories?? i debate only with facts. You forgot to throw in the story about MKO sinking a million bibles in the atlantic?? (even though Kofo Annan recently confirmed MKO read only the Koran and the Bible when he saw him in detention).. You see, majority of Nigerians depend on watered down gossip to form their judgement. Please read my post again - all of MKO's kids were in FGN schools until the June 12 persecution started. Thats a fact. So of course this girl wasnt in Nigeria at the time as the entire family had to leave the country. Even those of us that were not involved in the elections found ourselves in the UK, States, Ghana wherever to complete our studies. But back to the issue at hand. MKO was rich and lost all his money right? - Yes Fact. This lady is his daughter? - Yes. Fact. She has moved on with life, accepted her fathers death and as a young enterpreneur, she gave a compelling pitch that got shrewd UK Businessmen to pour accolades on her and invest in her business right? Yes Fact? You sir, prefer to remind anyone with anything positive to say about this young Nigerian talent...that her father was corrupt, a coup sponsor, etc etc...Reality is that no matter how much negativity you throw out there, some people will just make it in life (despite who their father is). Accept it and move on. |
CuntDestroyer: Abiola's Kids with all the assets he had and all the opportunity they were given and also his heritage must be at least an elevator ride to the top for her.Oh my word...you clearly have a lot of venom for this family and you must come from the school of thought that the Children must be punished for the sins of the father? Anyway dear sir (with a very interesting user name) let me respond to your opinion (which you are 100% entitled to) Your point 1 - If you have ever presented to an EXCO or Board you will admit that few can be as intimidating as the Lions Den - we are talking about 75 years worth of joint enterpreneurial experience looking for holes in your business model. These are all Chairman and Directors of various boards coming togther to critique a business plan - so i'm afraid your point is not clear. Please do not trivialise this but "dumbing it down" and calling it a TV show. It takes nerves of steel to handle a pitch to this caliber of shrewd business people Your Point 2 - Dear sir, i dont want to lecture you and i mean this in the most respectful way - you clearly do not know the difference between financing a business with Debt versus Equity. You also clearly do not know the difference between Venture Capital and Equity. if you want to finance your business via debt, you go for a bank loan and it adds working capital but ZERO strategic expertise to your business. If you want just equity, you can raise from investors. However, if you want strategic and reputational gravitas, you sell a percentage of your business to a strategic investor, with more expertise than you to help you grow your business and open doors in the market in which you operate. Who is better than Peter Jones to do this for a UK business? This is Corporate Finance 101 and i'm sorry, you just dont get it. Your Point 3 - Two traits of many Nigerians - a. we have a short memory and b. we are most comfortable criticising and abusing others when in truth, its only by the Grace of God we ourselves are not in worse situations. I can recall that Sani Abacha WIPED OUT every investment MKO Abiola had in order to frustrate him to abandon his mandate. I dont know what happened to the money but you clearly have a strong interest in the Abiola family as i dont know half of all the gossip you published....but sir, what exactly do you suggest this lady does following the loss of the family wealth?? Give Up? Quit? Go and hide under a stone?? what do you suggest? She picked herself up, dusted up and is building her own business empire...why would you hide behind a laptop and attack such a person? Unless its a personal issue you have? Your Point 4 - You say "anyone" could have delivered that pitch? I cant find the words to respond to that. Lets just agree to disagree on that. Parting note - you are entitled to your opinion and i respect it...but try to be objective and dont let venom and bile cloud your judgement. All the best sir, and i hope no one ever blames your kids because of your weaknesses. |
If Nairaland is an indication of how Nigerians process information then we are in trouble. I have a message for all the negative posters on this topic. Of all the qualities you should pray for and strive for in life it is HUMILITY. This lady may not have inherited billions but she has certainly the humble gene from her Father. Stinkingly rich MKO was not a perfect man but never forgot his roots; if not for the Abacha persecution , he insisted that ALL his children attended Federal Government Colleges in Nigeria until O'levels. MKO preached humility to his kids becaused he knew that money comes and goes but your education and personality stay with you forever. The most unfortunate comments here are from those who say "how can MKO's daughter be begging for £50,000"?...Clearly those posters are very ill-exposed and dont understand the business world outside Nigeria. In the UK, if you have a respected multi-millionaire like Peter Jones on your Board of directors (which Dupsy strategically negotiated), it can transalate to access to additional millions of pounds of private equity/investor funds. She has given her business model the "credibility and exposure" it needs to raise millions of pounds. Very strategic, very smart, very impressive....but all narrow-minded posters can say is "what about her inheritance"? Lord have mercy!!! |
Where all the female activists now? It would have been all manners of abuse if Land Rover decided to make a male only car. |
