townshipjames: You succeeded in contracting yourself here. Going by your New-york story, one would have thought you would advice the Goan minister to borrow a leaf from the US. The fact that a set of people misbehaved doesn't give him the liberty to insult ALL Nigerians including YOU. That was uncouthed and a parochial from a serving minister. What happened to getting the erring Nigerians arrested and tighten up on the Indian immigration policy?Sir, I think you meant "contradicting". However, my reference to NYC is to show that as Nigerians we should not be running around asking for apologies but rather trying to get to the root cause of the problem and fixing it. So you may have misunderstood my analogy. I personally did not feel Insulted by the statement - The truth hurts. It takes a mature mind to swallow one's pride and admit when your citizens have become a nuisance in many countries. It hurts my brother...but its the truth. |
caesaraba: Why is he apologizing for saying the truth? (Or at least something close to that).Exactly sir. I agree with you 100%. The Indian chap has only said what millions of foreign officials around the world are saying in private (but because of fake diplomacy and to protect their jobs, wont say in public) In life, the only way to move forward is to accept when there is a problem and then put a strategy in place to resolve the problem. The problem with us in Nigeria is that we prefer to pretend there is no problem and all is well. Anyone that speaks sense that "brothers we have a problem o...!!!" will be shouted down and abused by the Mob. Eventually it will become a tribal issue, we trade insults and forget that there is a problem. That's how we have been going round in circles for over 50 years. Take the USA and New York as an example of how to resolve problems - at one point the World and the USA admitted that NYC was the most criminal infested and dangerous city in the world! Places like Harlem were worse than Ajegunle and both Americans and Non-Americans complained about New York. How did the Americans respond? They didn't blame Hispanics, Blacks, Mexicans or immigrants (as we would have done in Nigeria), they put in place the toughest Police Chief they could find, they also implemented the "three strikes and you're out" policy. So petty criminals would serve long sentences the moment they committed 3 petty crimes (some people got 20 years for stealing sweets in a shop). What happened? NYC was cleaned up - people like Bill Clinton relocated his Foundation office to Harlem etc. NYC still has dangerous areas but nothing like it was 15 years ago. Lets learn from others - when a Dr. diagnoses cancer, you treat it with Chemotherapy and extend your years... but when you pretend all you have is a cold, then the cancer destroys the body and the soul. Patriotism is commendable but it should not be blind to the truth. |
I saw a whole convoy of ambulances about two hours ago on Muri Okunola and was wondering what happened, so was hoping to get the full story on this thread, only to see some children arguing about Yoruba, ibo and Hausa. I mean...seriously ?Nairaland CEO (and moderators) - Kudos for taking Nairaland so far BUT it is really time for you to put a stop to the uncontrollable tribal rage that floods almost every thread nowadays. Trust me, you can not build a long term sustainable social media business model by relying on traffic generated from hatred and tribal bias. Such minorities will generate good traffic in the short term but contribute very little to Nairaland in the long run. Sadly what I see is an excellent business model about to be destroyed by tribalism and bigotry. Nairaland Mods - zero tolerance on unwarranted tribal exchanges on Nairaland. Don't become a statistic of "great business ideas that failed" - There are plenty of case studies out there. I will now go to another online forum to get info on the collapsed buildings. |
Dangote has more debts than me but is the richest man in Africa. Your analysis is flawed sir because Debt to GDP ratio can not be analysed using a "balance sheet" approach. Many other factors need to be considered. Meanwhile- when will Nigerians move away from this "tribe" mentality. Its the single largest cause of non-progress. |
That goat is ibo, stop taking him serious.
LOL!!!! Two things I don't get dragged into on Nairaland is 1. Insults and 2. Tribalism. But if you must call me a goat, I will prefer you call me an "Ewure". That's the He-Goat with a bushee goatee. He is the king of all the goats and tastes very nice with efo-riro and pounded yam....LOL!!!! Also my brother - when you become obsessed about Nairaland Handles and trying to guess where someone is from (Ibo, Yoruba, Indian, Lebanese) your brain will never process what they are saying objectively. I urge you to seek wisdom and maturity and leave all this Gra-Gra behind...LOL. |
shymexx: Why did you choose "Ijebulogic" as your handle?Oga ......I urge you to research The Current Awujale of Ijebu land (Adetona)'s position on this blood-letting "festival". He denounced it many years ago and refuses to participate in the rituals. So if my position is not any different from the position of the Awujale of Ijebuland (where this cult originated), then your point is Mute sir. |
There are a number of Churches within this Private Estate - The Congregation should challenge the Church leaders to arrange a seven day vigil between 10pm and 4am during the same period. In fact candle night vigil and March on the streets. Sadly collecting Tithes may be more important than speaking up against evil. |
Barometer for Spain is wrong o!!! |
ammyluv2002: i think it has to do with the connection, feeling, chemistry etc between the both of you, that can give you an tint if the person is actually the right one. Destiny also has a role to play here, whether we like it or not what will be will be 'Ce qui serra serra'Does a fat wallet and bank account also help? |
This is a disappointing line up. Where are the curves biko? Surely, these can not be the most beautiful African ladies on the continent. I can just "manage" Ms South Africa - but the rest look like they need to eat. Would pick our very own Tiwa Savage over these anytime. |
lacidi: Lagos wants 300 vehicles for games in Nov 2012,My brother, I don't understand this rationalization of illegality. How is the Waiver of 10% duty on a N10m Lagos State sports festival Car = 10% Waiver on duty of a N100m NCAA Car? I don't understand this advanced "mathemagics" sir. Lets wait and see how the Governor of Lagos State and Senior Advocate of Nigeria reacts to Coscharis explanation. |
Haba Coscharis!!! The old adage holds true - never trust car dealers, estate agents or lawyers. |
Just Privatise the Public Sector. |
Noticed the white trend - it's best with chrome accents, tan or camel brown leather seats. In Lagos, you'll need at least three washes a day for a white car. Honestly, its not a bad look but I wouldn't bother. My favourite colours remain: 1. Black 2. British Racing Green 3. Milan Brown (a unique bronze/brown mix which has been mastered by Mercedes, Audi and Range Rover) |
carzola: This is the more reason i choose to sit home on sundays.. Christianity is a disgrace to religious bodies.. Christianity is now a scam and a recist religion.. In a nutshell i'd rather be an occult member than be a christain..For me, as a Christian, what is sad is not Carzola's statement (he has spoken with honesty albeit with a hint of frustration). What is sad are the various comments of condemnation and judgment from other Christian Nairalanders. It is typical of the way we practice Christianity in this part of the world. We are too quick to judge our brothers (who have become disillusioned with 419 pastors and Churches) rather than us helping them see the way to salvation via a personal relationship with Christ. What we should be doing is reaching out to Carzola and sharing that true Christianity as not about fancy buildings and flashy pastors as all those things will come to pass. In 50 years all these pastors will be gone but Christ will remain. Who amongst us has tried to reach out to see if we can help save a soul? We prefer to hide behind the laptop and condemn him. Think brothers...think! |
Don't be fooled. Suicide, mental breakdown, and psychological trauma occur regularly as a result of bullying in Nigeria. Its just that we love to cover things up in this society, so most of the time the news is portrayed as something else. By the way one of the biggest "senior" bullies from my younger days is a well known MD today - nothing has changed. He takes pleasure in wrecking peoples lives (and marriages) and to him its all fun. The man is a complete psycho. At performance review sessions, he is known to make grown men/women break down in tears. He has remained a bully and he now has hundreds of victims to psychologically abuse at his pleasure. The point is; in Nigeria Bullying doesn't stop in school. Its a sick twisted right of passage where you either become a bully in society (like my senior) or remain a bullied employee (like the hundreds that work for my senior). |
Nairaland - You folks are wicked sha...LOL!!! Embyro??....LOL!!!! |
We need High Speed Trains, i'm tired of flying domestic airlines. By the way why isn't there a Ministry for Rail Networks? |
TGlobe: tinubu father is not yoruba, that why he stole all lagos money, more than $10 billion have been stolen from lagosDoes Anyone Care where he's from? When I get on a plane, do I care if the pilot is from Zamfara or Lagos? As long as he gets me to my destination safely.
|
Billyonaire: Tinubu is not educated enough to understand the need for SNC, he has just recovered from a knee surgery, which I am grateful to the gods for. His opinions on politics, doesnt really matter. He is just a normal citizen like you and I.1. Please what level of education is required to be Global Treasurer of Exxon Mobil at a time when most Nairalanders where in pampers? Please if Tinubu is not educated, then I want to be an "illiterate" like him. 2. Only time will tell if BAT is a normal citizen or the most significant political strategist that our generation will encounter. All will unfold in 2015 sir. |
Keneking: How can you compare chicken rep to KFC? Those cr guys are real copy cats lacking originality! In terms of sales, KFC is no match to cr. cr can best be compared to tantalisers and mrbiggs or TFC.Haba!! - Chicken Republic is an indigenous company with over ten years of growth and expansion with outlets all over the country. They recently secured further funding from an international private equity firm who was impressed by their business strategy. Apart from the fact that they both sell Chicken, CR menu is completely different from KFC - so how is CR a copycat abeg? Besides, KFC just started in Nigeria about 18 months ago so in terms of this region they are the "new kids on the block". Also note that no other KFC in the world has the kind of Menu they have in Nigeria (rice etc)...indeed, we can debate if it is KFC that is copying CR's Menu for "Local Content". |
kingjoe: he approved and incresad minimum wage in the country.from 5000 to 18000.he revamped our rail transport.he increased the universities by making sure every state has a federal university in nigeria.our school fees in nigeria is the cheapest in the world.he has handed over phcn to those that can manage it and reduce corruption in the sector.i will continue laterHaba my brother, we are all in the same country and know the reality as follows: 1. The request was for minimum wage of N52,000. GEJ only ratified the N18k a few hours to the commencement of a nationwide strike orchestrated by the NLC. If the NLC had not threated the strike, it would not have happened. By the way, $110 USD a month is not anything to be proud of sir. 2. Rail Transport has not been revamped, otherwise i'd be taking a train to Abuja (or even next door Ibadan) from Lagos. We are all In the same country. 3. University education is about quality not quantity. We may have the lowest fees, but it also complements the fact that we have the lowest global rankings in the world. Many of our graduates cant even string a simple sentence together. 4. PHCN handover - Haba, have you forgotten OBJ/NIPP Transformation; That was not initiated by this administration and besides, it hasn't yielded dividends yet. If its true that the Power sector has been transformed then let GEJ ban all civil servants and public institutions from owning generators with immediate effect. The day we make progress as a country is the day we start being truthful to ourselves... |
tayokem: GEJ said it allPoint of Correction: This was said by an American preacher James Freeman Clarke who died in the 19th Century. |
This is good for the economy. I strongly believe that foreign investors encourage local players to raise their game to the next level, creating more jobs and increasing consumer choice. One example is the Local "Prince Ebeano" supermarket chain popular in VGC and Lekki. Majority of shoprite faithfuls have defected to Ebeano due to its convenience, variety and customer service. Another interesting battle is between KFC (Global) and Chicken Republic (Local). The Turf war and branding battle between the two makes me proud to be Nigerian, (Chicken Republic have transformed overnight to take KFC head on). Foreign entrants stimulate economic activity - "For every MTN, there must be a GLO". |
A Visionary leader must be able to sift through all the "noise" that comes with Governance and focus on the critical issues that ensure security and social welfare for his citizens. He must then attach priorities to those issues and not allow himself to be distracted by Political games. This should be our Presidents Priority list: 1. Citizen Security & Safety: Eradicate Terrorism, Kidnapping and correct the disastrous road network and airspace. 2. Power 3. Increased Intervention in Non-Oil sectors 3.Tertiary Education (ASUU etc) & Healthcare 4. Unemployment (OBJ's already warned that an ever increasing youth population combined with unemployment is a recipe for disaster) 5. Radical changes to create an enabling environment for FDI (tax breaks, fiscal incentives, less bureaucracy in civil service, customs transformation etc.) If there is so much as a 25% improvement in the above by 2015, GEJ would be a Hero in my mind. But instead we are forced to hear pronouncements that add absolutely no value to the lives of the common man. What exactly (in simple English please) will a NC achieve? The whole process will be chaotic, ill-timed and pointless. The Tower of Babel comes to mind. Mr. President, the people whispering in your ear in Abuja don't understand the needs of the people. |
@OP>>>>breathe....in...out...exhale...breathe....RELAX. |
Much love to my Ibo brothers.....even more love to their women....darrrrnnnnn! |
Apparently nothing new here: Goodbye Goodluck, but Nigerian show goes on by: Amanda O'Brien From: The Australian October 28, 2011 12:00AM THE mysterious non-appearance of Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan at a packed CHOGM forum yesterday where he was scheduled to outline his country's mining potential, failed to stop his delegation launching a strong bid for investors to get on board. Nigeria has one of the biggest delegations with more than 120 people and its towering President with his distinctive black hat has cut an imposing figure at the business forum all week. But there was no explanation yesterday when he failed to appear for two scheduled speeches. Nigerian Mines and Steel Minister Musa Mohammed Sada took his place, declaring Nigeria "the last frontier" for mineral exploration in west Africa as he touted for investors. http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/goodbye-goodluck-but-nigerian-show-goes-on/story-fnapmixa-1226178871235 |
I feel for the President as he is surrounded by incompetent advisers....It is not GEJ's job to be planning meetings, there are people employed and given the full power and resources of the Presidential office to sort these things out. It can not be that difficult to schedule meetings and speeches. How can a team that cant schedule meetings possibly deliver on power, security and economic stability? |
Go to 30:38 in the video. Did I hear Okupe a government official tell Sowore to "Please Shut up (Sharrap)?" Is that what spokesmen do? |
What is happening to this country? Please Delta based Nairalanders - shed some light on the real situation on kidnapping. Is it as bad as the media claims? I spent a week in Warri last year and it seemed okay. But I hear that there are up to 5 kidnappings per day around Warri, Ughelli environs. Who exactly are the targets and what are the facts? Contributions will be appreciated. |
