My 5-day trip from Abuja to Kaduna, 30/09/2015 - 04/10/2015, in my Peugeot 406 V6 SV D9 with 5-speed manual and 4 brand new Michelin tyres. What a sweet experience. On each of the journeys, I would arrived my destinations fresh as I was before the departure. The Lion's performance was awesome. The road handling of the Lion on those 4 brand new Michelin tyres (Primacy 3) was so thrilling.

I woke up this morning and found myself still smiling for how happy I am due to the treat the lion gave to me and allowed me to enjoy in those 5 days. I am so happy and grateful to God and Universe for giving me these magnificent Peugeot cars and the more that continue to come in.

I love my Lions!

Hi ikenna351,

I'm up to buy a new car and im considering the 2011 peugeot 308 GTi. What are your thoughts about this lion?? and also, if you have an idea about the price please let me know. Thanks
The 308 GTi that I know that much is the new Peugeot 308 GTi produced by Peugeot Sport and unveiled few weeks ago.

The new Peugeot 308 GTi has only petrol engines. Both are 1.6 litre turbocharged petrol engines and THP Peugeot engines. The first ones has 250 horsepower, that is THP250. While the 2nd one has maximum of 270 horsepower, THP250 engine. The 308 with 250 horsepower average about 47 mpg.

They both have Torsen ™ Limited Slip Differential (LSD). Their front brake calipers on each wheel have 4 pinions, for aggressive braking/shorter stopping distance, to handle the aggressive power both engines produces. And both have 19 inches Alloy wheels.

Oh! They both come in 6-speed manual transmissions only. The new Peugeot 308 GTi was designed for thrills.

You can order yours, if you find it interesting, because its an impressive animal.

You can visit The Lion Community page and/or The Lion Community group on Facebook to learn more about the new Peugeot 308 GTi.

There is still time for you to edit your post and also apologize, if ikenna catch you dising peugeot without reliable evidence, then you are done for.

As for op when I bought this nissan Almera 1.5L manual transmission, I was crucified by everyone that it's a rubbish car, overheats an highly unreliable piece of crap from a loser manufacturer, why did I buy it?. Well since I had done my due deligence in checking the car out, I am enjoying it till date infact driving a manual uphill in traffic now is no beggie and I am enjoying that nissan as I enjoy my toyota. There is no MAGGIC in reliability
I am happy for you for becoming aware.

My mission on Car Talk Nairaland is to create awareness for people interested. It's not for everyone. I mean, awareness of what Peugeots truly are, what I have found out and still find out about them, and things or what I apply that enables me to enjoy them. How one chooses to interpret my mission is up to the person.

@ Op,

Difference between a poor man and a rich one or one that desire wealth is, Poor man wish for economy while rich man wish for good life. Solomon in the Bible wished/asked for wisdom which is priceless, the same way good life is priceless, and that's why abundant wealth became his reality. But the poor man or one that wants to remain poor would always seek or wish for economy, which simply means less spending. And that's why they will continue to have the experience of not having enough to spend less, because that's what they want or wished for. When all your energy or attention is on "Reliability", what exactly do you think you are seeking? Economy? Asking for less spending, right?

If i had listened to or paid attention to negative reviews online about Peugeot 505 V6, I wouldn't have gone for one and be enjoying mine. I recently did a trip with the lion where it consumed less than 20 liters of fuel for over 200 kilometers. This is a Lion produced in 1986 and has been with me for the past 5 years. Ask me how many things I have replaced on the Lion since I got him?

I am embarking on a journey with one of my V6 Lions in few days and I am mounting 4 brand new Michelin tyres on the Lion for the journey. That tells you how I planned to enjoy the lion on the road and the entire journey. Like I have always said, while some are busy looking for negative comments to make about Peugeot cars online to discourage others from buying them, some Peugeot owners are busy enjoying theirs. And most importantly, adding more and enjoying other good lifes added.

What many people don't know is, everyone now wants to drive a Peugeot 406, to the point that some are willing and buying even the RHD-LHD converted ones they know may likely have some issues since their factory designs/settings have been tampered with, but because they are cheaper, they want to have a taste of the Lion, which same amount would have gotten them other brand of cars. The lack of awareness is that Peugeot 407 has the same powertrain Peugeot 406 it succeeded/replaced has. Let me put it in another way. Peugeot 407s have the same engines and transmissions that Peugeot 406s have. Difference is on the body, because the late Peugeot 406s have the same Multiplexing electrical systems in Peugeot 407s. So if Peugeot 406 parts are available where you stay, what is your worry? Brake pads, brake discs, etc? How often do you change these things? 1,2, or even 3 years? Suspensions? How many times have you heard a Peugeot user/owner complaining he/she replaced his shock absorber?

Anyone that complains about how unreliable his Lion is to him/her, visit and take a look at the lion he is complaining about. Do we talk about abuse some do removing their Lions cooling system thermostats? Do we talk about abuse of bypassing factory radiator electric fan connection these people that complain do on their Lions? What people don't know when they bypass these factory fan connections in Lions is, the engine ECU in these Lions is what controls the radiator fans through the signals it receives from CTS. So any short circuit or wrong connections while doing the bypassing, over time, clashes or sometimes instantly harms/destroy the engine ECU, such is the BSI unit, which happens to be the Vehicle immobilized as well. Most Nigerians have formed the habit of removing batteries or swapping batteries in their Lions while engine is running and expect the BSI unit to smile at them for such abuse, and they turn back and blame Lions for that?

It's simple, don't ever give another man the permission to choose your happiness for you, otherwise you live a miserable live. We all here on planet for different purposes. You have to find your own purpose. Opposite of conformity is freedom. Conformity is when you live by peoples approval or seek for their approval for your own happiness. Freedom is when you seek for or choose your own happiness. A decision and consequences that lies on everyone.

Peugeot 406 & 407 parts are very much available in Nigeria, if that's your concern psych1.

Am a novice when it comes to Peugeot brands.
What is the reliability, drivability, and part availability statistics from Nigerian perspective.
Peugeot 407 is a nice reliable Lion.

For the petrol engines, the 407 comes with EW7, EW10J4, EW10A, EW12 & ES9A (V6). That is, 110 hp, 138 hp, 145 hp, 170 hp & 211 hp (horsepower).

They come with manual and auto transmission option. For the manuals, the manual one with EW12 comes with 6-speed manual gearbox, while the rest have 5-speed.

For auto transmission. 407 auto transmission with EW12 engine comes with ZF HP20, while the rest of the petrol 4-cylinder engines have BVA_AL4 transmission.

However, all 407 with ES9A V6 engine have Aisin AM6 6-speed auto transmission.

They are all reliable, depending on how you use them.

I just read somewhere now that once a Peugeot hits a milage of 180k. It develops lot of electrical faults.
How true is this?
I know cars develop fault but the way it's said makes it sounds as if it's a sure bet that it must develop electrical fault regularly after getting to that milage.
First thing you need to do is to stay still, take a deep breath and release the negative energy you have built up. Because the negative energy is drawing more negative things to you, because thats the vibration you are putting out.

You said in the first post that you are biased toward Peugeot. For that, all you will see and keep attracting once you remain in that vibration is to keep attracting negative remarks, comments and even people that will give you false information about Peugeot. Even the research you have done so far, you were attracted to negative or false comments, because thats exactly what you want. There are so many positive posts and comments on Peugeot cars online, but only the negative ones you found worth commenting on. Do you see where I am going?

Not every information or comments in online about Peugeot were put by People who know what modern Peugeot car keys looks like, let alone drive or own one, yet they know all about Peugeot, which they learnt from same negative comments posted by biased people toward Peugeot. Some people found it joyful to condemn or blame something when they fail in something their fellow human beings have become succesfull in. This goes to people that abuse their Lions and put blames on their Lions. Some people simply want public acceptance by conforming to what people say and spreading the message, even if its negative or false, just to belong or remain acceptable. The good side is, people are becoming aware of the truth about Peugeot cars that serve them, that's why they are increasingly joining the Peugeot family. The Lion Community is rapidly growing and that explains a lot to all I have said.

One thing is clear, good Life doesn't wait for anyone, same as wealth. They flow to people ready to accept them, appreciate them, be grateful for them and live them fully. While some are busy complaining how things are hard, how no money is in circulation, some people are busy earning and making millions of profits annually, monthly, weekly or even daily. Prosperity does not care who you are, it cares about who wants it because the person believes he/she deserves it and attract it. Peugeot 407 have become a common household car for Abuja inhabitants, same way Peugeot cars are increasing on Abuja road everyday. Good life does not wait for anyone who is busy analysing, judging or looking for negative sides of everything. You either jump in or you keep focusing on what negativity has to offer in deciding the car to settle for.

One of my modern Lions has exceeded 180,000 kilometer mileage and the entire electrics of the Lion remain perfect.

It's ok if you prefer another car in your list than the 407, but do yourself a favor, Avoid negative reviews of any of the cars you listed. To put it in another way, focus on the positive sides of each of those cars your list. The one your heart resonates with it, go for it.

Your call!

I got me a 2001 toyota camry v6 and my mechanic said why I go buy v6, he said he consume more fuel I said that's no problem, he now said v6 has problems...to be honest I love the smooth driving and I don't see any much fuel consumption. But the way he said this really scares me
The poor remains poor because of how they think, what they think, what they do and how they do it. The moment you realize this and turn away from it, then you are free.

If someone that drives a motorcycle argues its better to drive a motorcycle than a car because motorcycle conserve or consume less fuel than car, then forever he remains in that condition, because that's his wish, his prayer. What you think, murmur, say out loud or shout while kneeling down and praying at night is not what creates your current and future experiences or reality, its how you perceive yourself, which makes you have certain beliefs and act towards those beliefs, such as self doubts and feeling of unworthiness that you really deserve good life. Affirmations are useless if you really feel that you are unworthy.

God has uplifted you to greatness by given you something to enjoy (more power and thrill). All you have to do is to embrace that prosperity manifesting and more to manifest. If you think and feel you can't fuel that V6 because the world is telling you that you don't deserve that good life, then you will continue to have experience that will continue to make you complain of not having enough. How much are we talking about in different between fueling that V6 than the I-4 counterpart engine that you are considering or already repelling prosperity? Because that's what you are doing, saying no to better life and wealth.

The poor remain poorer, while the rich continue to be rich because of attitude each group give to money and perceive themselves as: Worthy and unworthy perception of self. It's written, "Even the one given to you will be taken away and given to one that already has, if one doesn't use it or appreciate that given to him".

V6 engines and Inline-4 petrol engines are as reliable and durable as the other. Difference is , levels are not the same. The happiness you derive is enough to keep you in the frequency that will keep bringing more success , prosperity or wealth to remain in that happy state.

Since 2011 I got my first Lion V6, more Peugeot V6s have been added in my life, with many more in other good life still coming. I am prospering, not the other way round. That's what happens when you say "Yes" to your heart desires , embrace them and be grateful.

Don't worry about fueling. Money is a means, not an end. Trust me, if you follow your desire and stick to it, give it one month, you will be amazed on how more have entered within a short while. I acquired two V6s that same 2011, to tell you how powerful ones happiness can draw in more.

Don't get distracted with people's choices and decisions in life. Your happiness is your responsibility, don't give the world/people that power to decide it for you, because it will ruin your life.

Find another mechanic that appreciate V6 engines. There is more than enough to go round. Always remember that.

The Lion Community I founded are increasing on daily basis. Some members are on the facebook, while some are on WhatsApp. We are over 200 members now, still counting. Members are learning in the community how to keep these lions as designed and enjoy reliable and durable motoring service with love and appreciation. Members are taught what not to do on a lion to enjoy the aggressive performance for a very very long time they were designed to offer. Members are been taught how to easily diagnose a Peugeot if something goes wrong, without abusing the systems. Members are loving their lions more and inviting friends and lion owners they know or meet on daily basis to join the community and enjoy wealth of Knowledge and tips shared freely. Few members have even upgraded to brand new, because of smile their previous lions put on their faces. Like I said, lack of awareness is why people perish and reject good life they truly wished for.

The 407 is a good looking car, the only issue I have with them is their obd port, different from the japs but the peugeot brands are solid rock love the shark shape of the 407.
All Peugeot scan ports, including the 407, are the same with every other brand of cars, except those produced from 1995-1996 (and maybe some 1997 productions), which will require an adapter before it can be scanned with the OBD II scan tool.

I wish to do ALL as advised but, like you know: knowledge is power. How can you help please?
A friend of mine in Egypt sent me pictures of thermostats he uses in his 504 SR. One opens at 75 degree Celsius and the other opens at 82 C. The factory opening temperature is 74-76 C, so the OEM thermostat for XN1 engine is 75 C. But 82 C will work well as well.

My ZN3J Factory thermostat (505 V6 engine) opening Temperature is 79 C. When the thermostat failed, I found 71 C here in Nigeria. When installed, the temperature gauge wouldn't stay long at 90 C. I had to buy the 82 C and swapped in and it became normal, even better than the Factory 79 C. The 82 C thermostat has been in that engine since 2012.

Find pictures of your engine thermostat attached below:

Scan the ABS ECU. The ESP (Electronic Stability Program) in Peugeot cars works with ABS. So when ABS is faulty, ESP deactivates itself.

It could even be that you need to do steering angle initialization.

Carryout PP2000 session first.

Camshafts. You need a good Peugeot mechanic to look at the camshaft positions.

How good are the valves? What led to the timing belt failure in the first place?

Somebody help!!! I bought a used 2008 Peugeot 307 sedan from a company some months ago and ever since it has become a nightmare for me. The windscreen of the car was broken when I bought it and that is all I thought I would replace. Unfortunately, I fell in the hands of a wrong Mechanic, who cut the timing belt after several try and error. This was fixed by another mechanic, but on my way home the car started to overheat and the gasket burnt. This was fixed by another mechanic but whenever I started the car I had to leave my leg always on the accelerator. At this point I went to scan it and the electrician said I needed to set the timing. The mechanic couldn't fix but I was able to find a Peugeot Mechanic who fixed it. The car started but I didn't drive it to far. Later when I did, I realised the car only moves normally for some minutes before it starts going with a speed of 10km/h irrespective of how much you press the accelerator. The phone number of the earlier Peugeot Mechanic is not available since then, so another Peugeot Mechanic was described. I drove the car from Ajah to Lekki gently but this new mechanic collected the key from me and drove speedily to his workshop. Few meters away from his workshop the car stopped and has not started since then. The mechanic has checked the injector, the fuel pump, the timing and every other places, but he said there is nothing wrong with the car. I called two electricians to scan the car. One said it was timing and the other said it was ECU(brain box). I need an expert in d house to help me out
The scan result you posted is not PP2000 scan result, so not helpful in your lion condition.

However, diagnosing hard start in Lion can be easy, depending on state of electrics.

I would need you or your mechanic to rule out or test the RPM sensor and/or engine ECU with method I am about to explain below:

Pull out the fuel rail, leaving the fuel supply line and fuel injectors attached to the rail. Also, pull out the ignition coil, get another 4 spark plugs and plug in on the coils, leaving the spark plugs inside the engine there. Ground the spark plugs attached on the coil. Place the plugs on any metal part of the engine, make sure the 4 plugs surfaces touch the metal side of engine or ground them anyhow you want. Then let somehow crank the engine and watch. While engine cranks, the 4 fuel injectors will spray fuel continuously in seconds (off & on). You can use that opportunity to check the spray Pattern to know how each injectors spray or if one brings out more fuel than other or doesn't at all. Then look at the spark plugs too as engine cranks, you should see sparks produce by those plugs (off and on as engine cranks).

If the fuel injectors didn't spray fuel with the crank and spark plugs didn't produce sparks while grounded, then, you will have to swap in another RPM sensor/Engine speed sensor (one you are sure works) and do the test again. If that continues, then you will have to check supply to the injection or engine ECU, or the ECU itself.

Please note that each of these two tests about has to be done separately. That is, remove spark plugs first, do the test, put them back in, before you remove fuel rail to do fuel injectors spray test. The two tests must not be done at the same time. It's safer to do the coil and spark plugs test before fuel injectors so that sparks from plugs don't ignite fuel on the engine sprayed by injectors.

Or you simply find and plug in PP2000.

What you experienced when the lion stopped accelerating beyond 1000 or 2000 rpm was limp home mode. It was a safety engine ECU program in Lions to prevent damage to either the engine or the engine management. It was simply telling you to plug in a proper scan tool to see what was wrong.

How sure is your last current about the camshaft timing?

Thanks IK, cant ask for more. I'm in Lagos so I would have to take directions on how to go about it. Please go ahead and educate us. I also recently acquired a 'Best line' model but intends to 'work it' to this generation - I mean replace the 'padded' bumpers with this shiny steel bumber to get the oldies look. Whatcha think?
That's good.

But I would have gone for either GL, American spec 504 or Argentinian phase II 504, to have different experience from the SR. At least, the Argentinian phase II 504 had GL specifications, including 5-speed manual transmission. Only that it had rear live differential, I think, including drum brakes, etc . While GL/Amercian spec 504s had independent rear differentials, 4-wheel brake discs, drive shafts attached with CV joints on both ends, cross members, direct propeller shafts from gearbox output spline to differential input spline, etc.

Even the exhaust system of GL and SR were different. GL had the centre pot that would give out masculine sweet sound and would give that feeling of loud roar sound when in action. The GL had the exhaust manifold V6 design, including the intake manifold. The suspensions, both front and rear were completely different. In fact, with GL suspension, you will enjoy the lion better if converted and swapped in V6 engine. Few current GL owners in Europe now have V6 engines in them.

To be honest, 504 GL is a complete animal from SR. If really you are into collection of 504s, get a GL and your driving experience will never be the same. cheesy

Thanks Ikenna,

I have consulted with my 'team' and they think it cannot be done. They reckon the electrical fan cannot fit into the space given the protruding part that encases the water pump. I will appreciate your guidance in reworking the fan system.

Regards.
That your "team" does not know how to do it does not mean another person outside that circle does not know. I did it on mine since 2011, and the entire cooling system has been working perfectly till this moment, with so many trips I have done with the lion.

Are you in Abuja? If yes, bring the lion to me to do it for you. Trust me, you will constantly smile everytime you listen to engine note because it will start sounding differently once you swap in the electrical fan. And the fuel economy will greatly improve. You will marvel at how good that lion conserves fuel.

However, I can still guide you on how you can do it yourself. I saved pictures of how I did mine. Will find it and guide you with the installation.

In 2012, for the first time in the world, Peugeot produced the most powerful small engine ever. It's 1.6 litre THP petrol engine. It was launched in same 2012 in Peugeot RCZ R with 6-speed manual transmission. The same powertrain found itself in recently launched Peugeot 308 GTi, same engine, same 6-speed transmission.

Now, Peugeot launched 308 R Hybrid. The most important thing about 308 is the powertrain, what is under the hood. Guess what?

Peugeot launched the 308 R Hybrid with the most powerful small engine in the world with same 1.6 litre hybrid petrol engine. Except this time, the Lion posses maximum of 500 hp. Peugeot has always been one of the best in innovation, with regards to technology, right from XN engine , especially the ZPJ4S engine.

The interesting part is that Lions with that 1.6 litre petrol 270 hp give over 45 mpg: About 6 litre per 100 km, even with the massive power. Amazing! As for the fuel economy of the 308 R Hybrid with 500 hp, it average about 5 L/100km, with that 500 hp. Impressive!

The GL's didn't come with that type of dashboard. The brown dashboard shown is circa 1982 onwards.

Car-doctor
It seems you didn't read from the beginning of the thread down or how else do I explain it for better understanding.

Ok. Let's try this.

504 GL, L, etc, were phase one 504s, while SR, GR,etc, were phase 2. Simply put, most Nigerians that owned or still own 504 GL have swapped in phase II 504 dashboard(s). I saw, I didn't hear or read. So seeing a 504 interior picture with phase II dashboard doesn't mean it must be phase II 504 (SR, GR,prestige, etc). I have already explained in the previous posts here how to identify a GL, even if its modified with Series II interior.

For your information, I have owned a 504 GL foreign assembly with double-barrel carburetor. So I obviously know what GL have, what everything in GL looks like, and most importantly, how GL handles and performs when geared into action.

The throttle refuses to raise.
If the Motorised throttle body and accelerator pedal position sensor are connected, then switch off engine and switch back on. If issue remain, scan with PP2000.

Another thing, looking at the rear wheels, you can tell the rear axle is a live rear axle (L/GR/SR). Only the GL/Ti had independent rear axle/suspension.

I believe the 2.0 in the GL were twincams as well. Ikenna you should know please confirm.

Ah memories... smiley
Rear Differentail is another name for Rear Axle.

2.0 litre XN1 engine in GL had only 1 Camshaft.

Good morning Lions & Lionesses! @Ikenna351: d Lion King, my display monitor showed "Economy Mode Active" yesterday evening when I turned on the engine. What does that mean? Thanks
Its a program designed in Peugeot cars to prevent batteries from draining when used with engine off for more than 20 mins or so. So you probably used a gadget in the lion with engine off the previous night or last time you switched off the engine.

The Economy mode active warning will go off once the engine starts.

Observations:

From the engine pictures you posted, it seems your ignition coil is mounted around exhaust manifold. If yes, please relocate it to the left side of engine bay. If the coil lead is not long enough, get a longer one and move the coil. The heat coming from that exhaust manifold would make it fail intermittently especially when engine becomes hotter or fail often. The ignition coil on its own gets hot too. It doesn't need another heat to add to it.

Then, that fuel hose I saw on the fuel pump, that goes from fuel pump to the carburetor, remove it. I guess its normal new hose. Get an OEM (follow come) used one, unless you find a genuine new hose. That quality of hose should not near any engine bay. Heat engine produces makes that hose weaken faster. And you don't want that hose to burst when engine is running and very hot.
