Also, I would suggest you install thermostat in that cooling system, which I assume is absent/removed from the thermostat housing. The thermostat housing is that metal part where upper radiator hose is clamped on the engine side or where the upper radiator hose stopped on cylinder head (engine), which is shown in one of the engine bay pictures you posted. If you are interested in installing the thermostat,I can get the factory opening temperature for you. Probably the one in my ZN3J may work in yours too. Ikenna |
skeletine:Yes, PAN SR basically have the double round headlights as standard. From the engine bay pictures you posted, the cylinder head, intake manifold & Air filter are suggesting the engine is not 2.0, unless it was replaced at some point with 1.8 litre cylinder head. However, standard PAN SR had 1.8 litre engines, though were all XN engines as well. If you want to enjoy better fuel economy and long engine life span, I would suggest you convert the radiator mechanical fan to electric fan. It's very easy and I can guide you. The mechanical fan bolted to that water pump pulley creates a lot of drag as acceleration increases on XN engines in Nigeria, which add heavy load on the engine and consume more fuel. Foreign 504s all had Viscous mechanical fan, not the bolt on type you have. The temperature sensor on the radiator can serve as a trigger for the fan and it works perfectly just like modern cooling system fans in newer Peugeots. It will also help the engine run at optimal temperature for less wear and tear. You will marvel at how less noisy the engine would become, when you remove that mechanical fan. Ikenna |
Raymie:Not all foreign made 504s had that chrome on their windows. The GL & TI models had it, but L didn't. As for PAN 504s, especially the series 2, all SR models had it, GR didn't. From pictures op uploaded in his first post, they are not enough to say it must not be GL. Dashboards and seats alone are not enough. Some GL (PAN) had similar front seats and people have in the past removed the GL dashboards and mounted the series II dashboards, just like the one in the pictures. GL (especially foreign made) had low ground clearance, irrespective of Tyre size, unless the factory front and rear suspension springs have been replaced with PAN 504 springs (excluding PAN GL). You can also know a GL from inside the boot. GL boot is completely different from other models, including L model that is series 1. Also all GL had independent rear differential, drive shafts and CV joints and different rear shock absorbers which are pronounced without bending over to peep under the car. The PAN SR had rear live differential and no CV joints. Foreign made GL had rear brake discs, while PAN GL, SR, GR, etc, had rear drum brakes, including L. Etc. My point is, you can change certain things in GL to look like SR, but there are things that must give it away on the body or when looked at from outside, if its GL, but not the dashboard, doors, etc. Ikenna |
Siena:Yes, the GL/TI dashboard is different from series 2 504s (SR, GR, etc). But he said the focus was restoration and upgrade (modifications). And since quite a number GL owners in Nigeria removed and mounted Series 2 (SR) dashboards in their GL, I couldn't rule it out until he said otherwise. For example, PAN 504s had no power steering, but TI had power steering. But he swapped in/ installed one now. Some people back then considered GL dashboards as outdated and went on swapping in the "newer" model dashboards, which couldn't fit well since GL and SR bodies were completely different. Funny enough, the GL dashboards looks better and very unique, especially the way the central vent comes out and goes in. Another thing I found that suggested it was not GL were the door mats. The GL door mats were different and last forever "almost". However, the front seats of this one are series 2 seats, while the foreign produced GL & TI seats were unique and completely different. But the GL produced by PAN had the SR seats (series 2 504s), just like Op 504. We are still waiting for him to upload the engine bay picture, to know if its GL XN engine or the 1.8 litre engine. Ikenna |
skeletine:That's great. Congratulations! What power steering system did you install? The 505 or 504 TI PAS system? You can also upgrade to power windows, both front and rear door windows. From the external door glasses chrome detailing, it means its either a GL or SR model, unless you fitted them in. What engine is inside? XN1 or XN1A? As for the body, its job well done. Ikenna |
nurey:If she is interested in Peugeot brand, she can get a Nigerian used Peugeot 206 in very good condition with her budget. She can also get a Nigerian used phase 1 Peugeot 406 (D8) in very good shape even at 400-450k. Ikenna |
obua:And that's all you got? Lets look at your earlier post with the recent one here: obua:Categorically stating "Used Peugeots" & now "Nigerian used Peugeots" stress their owners and not good for young ones is quite a big minsinformation to innocent public. You could have at least tried explaining to missbizzy and others what made you say Nigerian used Peugeot cars have "lots of nagging electrical issues". You see, while some Nigerians are busy looking for every opportunity to abuse their Lions electrics and mechanicals, others are forever grateful for having good time of their lives for owing these same Lions some are busy complaining about. People always bring their newly purchased direct foreign used Peugeot cars and Nigerian used Peugeot cars to bless for them. While some were abused, I do marvel at near perfcet state or shape some of them bought as Nigerian used were. Their electrics were intact, just like mine, an indication that Nigerians have started to appreciate what they have and keep away from abusing their Lions by retaining their factory connections, settings, etc. If i may ask, what exactly do people expect when they start cutting, butchering and bypassing every thing that looks like wire in their lions, as designed by car manufacturer? Do they expect a happy face from the poor cars after all that, right? Even if they try some of these abuse on other brands and get away with it, sorry, not Peugeot. Peugeots are designed for people that love what they have. The same people that keep their lions electrics intact are same Nigerians, used, driven, diagnose and repair in same Nigeria by same Nigerian mechanics. Funny enough, its way cheaper to own a Lion used as Peugeot recommends, than the costly way of owning an abused one. So when they cut and throw out the engine cooling system thermostat, when they bypass factory connection or abuse radiator fans to spin constantly with ignition on or engine running, when they mess with wires that BSI unit in Lions monitors, they should know what they are doing to their poor Lions before they go out complaining "how God delivered them from nightmare called Lion or how Peugeot is no go area". As far as I am concerned, missbizzy gender and age is irrelevant to me, because no one deserves a stressful live. Any car abused will give the owner constant sad face until abuse on the car are reversed. Just like others pointed out in the thread, let her find someone good in detecting true current state of cars electrics, mechanicals and body to inspect whatever car/brand she ends up choosing. Because if you cannot detect a Lion with an abused electrics, I can. Avoid setting limits to your happiness by saying No to good life. There are Nigerian Used Peugeot cars in very good shapes out there which you can get, if thats your desire. Ikenna |
kingreign:Yes, I am so happy and grateful for owning that Peugeot 505 V6 stick. So much love that Lion. Because aside his looks, power, attitude on the road and strong satisfaction of actualising ownership of a dream car, the Lion came into my life and taught me something that transformed me to something big. When some Nigerians are busy fussing about or mocking classic cars, I just laugh at how much people are missing good life, so much. Ikenna |
obua:Imagine that! What made you say that? Could you elaborate? Ikenna |
Rapmoney:A 1976 Peugeot 504 V6 Cabriolet was sold in USA early this year about $18,500.00 USD, which cost more than some recent cars brought in as tokunbos. Oh! I purchased my 1986 Peugeot 505 V6 stick N850,000.00 in year 2010 and really love him. Ikenna

oba009:All Peugeot engines are reliable and durable. It depends on how you use the lion. How you love a lion or abuse one determines the lifespan. Ikenna |
ikp120:The current state of a Car's electricals and mechanicals determines price of a Car been sold, not just the body. If you abuse a Car, the selling price will drop. It is that easy and simple to understand. What you give a Peugeot Car is what he or she gives back to you. Ikenna |
Barns86:Congrats! I happy for you guys for choosing good life. To know your Lion specifications, send the Lion VIN to my phone number: 08052811236, as SMS or WhatsApp message. Though, I would prefer the WhatsApp message, so that i can easily you the details via WhatsApp, unless you want me to post it here. The VIN starts with VF3xxxx. It must be 17 digit. Once again, congratulations! Ikenna |
Siena:I am doing great, including my Lions and loved ones. Yes, I have not been active in Car Talk because Peugeot owners all over the world now need my assistance, including my Lion Community and other good life I now enjoy as well. So I have shifted focus, but I do visit the Car Talk once in a while. Ikenna |
Acheme86:The one on my profile picture is 505 V6, not Evolution. 505 Evolution is Nigerian specs. However, you can still get a clean one. Ikenna |
I actually drive/own a Peugeot 505. And you know the most interesting part? I love him so much! He is my Baby! And he has come to stay with me for good. Ikenna
|
Emvfridaah:Yes, Peugeot 406 is a very nice car. You will enjoy one. I am enjoying mine and love him. Ikenna |
Siena:Long time. I Trust you and your family are doing great. Good morning. Ikenna |
phazotron:People I add in The Lion Community on WhatsApp have love and passion for Peugeot & Citroën brands/cars. If you don't love Lions, you can't be in the community. In fact, you have to be a Lion or Lioness to join. So its not really about joining because you want to discuss cars. The community is strongly growing positively and I am so grateful to God for that. Ikenna |
slinkky:Check the gear selectors. If intact, then it could internal gearbox issue. Ikenna |
laudate:You can look for Peugeot 4007. Its CUV though. Ikenna |
swagifted:Yes, it does. 2 weekends ago, I did a trip with the same Lion, Peugeot 505 V6, and it consumed about 15 - 18 litres for 220 km, for a 1986 production. I so much love the Lion. Very aggressive and fun to drive in highway. Ikenna |
gabng:You have a choice to choose to learn from this thread about Peugeot or choose to misinformation from other sources. I wonder since when EW12 parts became hard to locate? What parts exactly? Engine monitoring sensors/components or the engine itself? If you really want to learn about these Lions, then go through all my posts and threads on Peugeot cars, both on Nairaland and other Peugeot forums. HP20 is the same auto transmission mounted in 406 phase 1 (D8) V6 with auto transmissions. The recommended ATF is ESSO LT71141 or Mobil LT71141. EW12 engine is the same in all Peugeot cars with EW12 engine and the cubic capacity is 2.2 litres. Ikenna |
gabng:All Peugeot 407 are fuel efficient, irrespective of fuel type and transmission. It also depends on your definition of fuel efficiency and usage. Be it diesels/HDIs, EW7, EW10, EW12 or ES9A. If you interested in Peugeot 407 auto transmission with petrol engine, go for One with EW12 engine or ES9A (V6) engine. The EW12 auto transmission will have ZF HP20 auto tyranny (4-speed), while one with ES engine will have AM6 (6-speed) auto tranny. Good morning. Ikenna |
Ziggyzito:I know someone that sells it. Contact me off the forum to link you with the person. Ikenna |
bisiswag:I hope you were able to fix your car? I specialise in Peugeot though. Ikenna |
Ziggyzito:Yes, its not a big deal. It's done easily. After you swap it in, it will start working immediately, but you need a PP2000 to programme it, otherwise it gives a beep sound anytime you switch on the head unit (radio), even though it will work. Ikenna |
fanodun:I believe we have met already after this post? Ikenna |
