kablooee: Alright guys, following the trend, I'lll be leaving Lagos to Abuja on the 16 September 2014 to Abuja, leave Abuja to Adoka in benue state on the 18th Sept. 14 and proceed to Kogi state on the 19th Sept. I intend to give as much documentation as I proceed.

Stay tuned.....
As you are about to climb Murtala Mohammed Bridge, along Lokoja - Abuja highway, you will hear a terrible grinding noise like twice, as if your transmission or wheel hubs just exploded. Don't stop. Keep going. The problem is with the road, not your vehicle.

You will likely hear the noise twice, especially those heading to Lokoja from Abuja, immediately you drive out of the bridge.

One thing you can't take away from these wild animals is how fuel efficient and miles eaters they can be. Face their noses to any part of the country and gear them into action, consider yourself in your final destination.

Anyway, this thread is not for Lions.

Top9jajamz: Finally during the engine change,The electrician bypassed the thermostat so that the cooling Fan comes on immediately the engine is switched on rather than when the engine temperature becomes hot.
Anyone with previous experience and solution on these issues raised above should please spare me a minute of their time and drop probable solutions.

Merci beau coup.
It appears you are loaded for allowing that clown to send you back to the market soon to purchase and replace that engine with another. If not, do you really know the implication of abusing your radiator fan to spin constantly as soon as ignition or engine starts? Of course, you didn't do that intentionally because you didn't know. But the truth is, you allowed that clown to do that to that poor vehicle. Look at what the poor vehicle has gone through for few weeks or months it entered Nigeria.

It will be strange for a mechanic to mess the factory radiator fan setting and still leave the thermostat in the cooling system. So if I am right that the thermostat was also removed, then the death of that newly purchased engine is been accelerated. Go and asked him if he removed the thermostat or not. Aside high fuel consumption which the abuse of your cooling system will introduce, your 2nd nightmare of loosing another engine is on its way and the countdown is very fast.

House, a guy in Abuja is searching for a 404 Saloon to buy. But the body must be clean, no rust and accidented. Condition of the engine and other mechanicals is less his concern, as long as the body is still intact, because he plans to modify the Lion as soon as it comes in. From our discussion, a different engine and transmission are going in.

If you know of any available for sale, please contact me. Thanks.

bravolad: I think we are all in agreement that buying a well maintained car is key to peace of mind in addition to also cultivating good maintenance habits for onward retainment. However, I also do not think, in the context of the poster's enquiry that anybody has said (at least on this thread) that a 1999 C class Guzzles petrol or that it is problematic. But in comparison to a 1999 2.2 Toyota Camry, the former is less fuel efficient and would cost more to keep in the long run. That's the pivot of this discussion.

People buy cars relative to their ability to replace parts, fuel, delay certain maintenance work on the car for about a week or more depending on financial circumstance, and of course, enjoy a reasonably seamless resale for value of the car. Now the Camry can achieve the above effect with ease unlike the Benz.
You want to tell me 1999 Toyota Camry 2.2 L will drink less than Benz W202 C180? Or, is your point is, "Because its Toyota, it must consume less than Benz, irrespective of engines or car sizes?

sanishehu: pls help me check dis vin hg52348632354123.
I want buy it, is a Peugeot 406.
God bless you
I don't think that's a 406 VIN, let alone a Peugeot VIN.

Foreign produced 406 VIN starts with VF38, unless its PAN production. It should be 17 digit.

The digits for:

V=Europe.
F=France.
3=Peugeot.
8=406.

I think the PAN full VIN is stored in BSI, which will pop up when PP2000 is plugged in.

Good morning.

I wonder who fed you people this wrong information?

Please, Peugeot 406 D9 (facelift) with ES9J4S V6 engine does NOT produce maximum of 207 hp. Information on Wikipedia was not put there by Peugeot.

Nigerians seem to know more about cars they have never touched the car keys, let alone drive them, not even own them.

I really don't understand what you mean by "salary earner"? How many cars on our roads do you think are not owned by salary earners? There are people who probably earn less than you, yet they own cars and haven't gone bankrupt. All it takes is the Will and right mindset. Stop playing safe, because you wont grow with it. The right mindset you need is how you can convert the car from liability to asset when you finally get one. It doesn't mean using the car for taxi. There are smarter ways to achieve that.

As for your reason for creating this thread. I am going to give it to you straight, since I believe you are a man. So I don't need to sugar coat my words, because you need to hear what it is and deal with it.

No matter which brand or car, as long as its a used car, what matters is the state of the car. A Keke NAPEP in bad shape will cost more to run than a full sized car. Let me illustrate this with a story.

Yesterday, on my way back from Anambra to Abuja, I stopped at Enugu and picked up a female cousin. She was coming to Abuja to take care of some personal stuffs. While in the journey she was telling me how her Benz C180 1996 model has been good to her. I couldn't help but observed she referred to her car as my "baby". All she was saying were praises and praises, how durable, reliable and economical the car has been to her, from the previous cars she has used or owned. She is a medical doctor and works at UNTH. She drives to Ituku Ozalla Enugu every work day from town. She once had to do a brief course at UNN and she was driving from Enugu town to Nsukka almost every weekend and back to Enugu, all by herself in her baby. Yet the baby never stranded her or gave her headache. All she could recall doing on her baby were usual servicing. The major work she has done on the car, she said, was A/C. The A/C compressor trigger module failed and she hasn't been able to find a good replacement. They suggested to her to bypass the module, but she stubbornly said no, until she finds a module that works. She couldn't believe the car fuel economy could be better than her previous cars. Two were actually Toyotas (1 is a family car).

She got this car in 2012 and when I saw the car yesterday before we continued the journey to Abuja, I couldn't believe the car was still in shape it was when she first got it 3 years ago. Why is she enjoying her baby? Because she said no to abuse and stuck to it. I could remember then, she was always calling me to educate her on how to keep her Benz in good shape and I didn't hesitate to tell her the secret, "Preventative Maintenance and NO to abuse", and she kept it. Even till that yesterday, she didn't allow them touch her thermostat, not to think of mess with the viscous fan. I couldn't help but admire her spirit. Unfortunately, the same Benz model, you will see my fellow men saying the car is problematic, its a gas guzzler, its that or its this.

Now imagine if she wants to sell the car today, don't you think you will enjoy the car if you succeed in getting it, even though its Nigerian used or Benz? I told you the story above not to discourage you buying your "modern " Camry you have decided to buy, but to make you realise that your 3rd name could change to "Nightmare" if you buy a badly maintained or abused Camry. If you buy maltreated car, it can make you change your current Church, if you are a Christian, because you will believe the witches in your village have grown stronger than your Church. Like I always tell People who come to seek advice from me whether to switch to Lion brand. My usual advice to them is, " If you know you cant afford not to abuse a car, then stay away from Lions". Its the simple truth. The modern Lions have been designed not to tolerate any form of abuse. Make that mistake and you will curse the day you saw that car advert, let alone talked to the seller. Because an abused Lion will deal with the owner mercilessly.

Whichever car or brand you decide to buy, be sure its in a shape you can handle, at least to some extent. Its a used car, so you don't expect it to be 99% in good shape.

The secret of having a trouble-free cars like I enjoy from my lions is , "Treat your car like a baby and it will treat you in return like a King". If you treat or handle her badly, it will tell on her on her and you. The same way, if you handle or treat your wife badly, it will tell on her and your family, no matter how she tries to pretend outside her home or in public. Because whether we want to admit that or not, a happy family is one with a happy wife.

solasola: hi ikenna. i would not mind if you could put me through some modifications on XN1 engine. switching from mechanical driven fan to electrical one. thanks.
Its an easy and simple conversion.

First, you need to find an electric fan with its cowl that will match and cover most part of the radiator. Then remove the fan from the water pump and tight back the bolt on the fan pulley. Mount that fan behind the radiator on the radiator (between radiator & engine), making sure the fan doesn't touch the water pump pulley (though there is enough space in every engine bay with XN1 engine. Mounting the fan behind radiator will suck heat out from radiator, instead of push cool air through the radiator fins.

The electrical part of the conversion is very easy, but a bit more technical. Confirm with test light that the temperature sensor on the radiator is still ok. It should have 3 pins. You also need a relay for the connections, if you want the fan to suck heat faster.

Will make out time to give you step by step how to do the electrical connections. But whatever you do, make sure the fan spins to suck air, rather than push air, when you mount the fan behind the radiator. You can connect the fan to suck or push by switching the fan 2 wires.

Fulaman198: Sorry the 328i is a much slower car than a 2007 Camry V6 SE by almost 100 hp.
I always wonder why Nigerians would think a better car is one with more hp.

Go back and read youngboss post you quoted. He said, "would drive better" and " more exciting to drive". He didn't say faster than newer cars.

A petrolhead looks at "road handling" or "overall character" of a car at whatever speed it does. That's what makes a car fun to drive; that's what makes a car safer when driven aggressively.

A fastest car must not win a race. More hp is an advantage and will be more "Wow!" when a road handler got one.

I use a Honda bulldog, my engine emmit sky blue smoke when raised high. pls how long can it last that way until I get money to buy another tokunbo engine because I always experience oil shortage and another thing is what help can adding treatment to the engine oil do to the engine? thanks as I await your response.
Adding oil treatment to your engine oil will harm that engine. These oils have been treated already. Buy 20W-50 mineral oil (TOTAL, if possible), until you can rebuild or replace the engine. The oil will reduce the shortage since its thicker.

Yes, because I made it a habit to drive long distance on empty stomach. So Shoprite is usually my stop to take of the stomach each time I travel to East.

When you are hungry, sleep won't near you on the wheel. Also, thanks to A/C, when you feel cold, your eyes will be clear enough.

So, empty stomach and A/C on long distance drive are my thing.

From Abuja to Enugu, I couldn't count increased number if check points, because they were so many. I was asked to park aside, just like other vehicles, on some of the check points. But guess what? When I am parked, the questions I got from there were, "Anything for the boys from Aso rock?; Any message for us?; etc". And was joyfully "given out the messages to them. Not even once was i asked to produce vehicle papers or drivers licence, like they were asking from other cars/brands. Trust me, it feels good when you are treated special among others. Because, each time I park, I would see other drivers from other car brands, arguing, turning pages of documents, pointing at page this and page that. Some were even asked to offload their luggage for search. But in my case, I was respected and honoured instead. Lol! There are things you can't take away from Lions. RESPECT!

Like I always say, what you have become or situation/condition you find yourself today, is as a result of actions, inactions, decisions, indecisions, choices and thoughts we made or did in the past. My Lions always make me proud or journeys!

Siena: Interesting trip, Ikenna.

I think every misfortune is a blessing in disguise. Your broken rear muffler has given you an ideal opportunity to purchase a stainless CAT-back system. No chance of it rusting, it'll actually outlive the rest of any car.

Worth considering. smiley

I left Abuja this morning for Anambra at 7.14 am in my SV D9. Half into the journey, after Ajaokuta, my Exhaust broke from the rear muffler/pot and dropped on the road, dragging. Lol! I spent close to an hour to lift the pipe dragging on the ground and hanged it somehow.

Luckily, minutes later , I got to a panel beater workshop. The panel beater is getting ready to fix it.

Sadly, my fuel gauge that hardly dropped half way into the journey before this interesting incident took place, has now dropped drastically just few minutes I drove the car with the broken exhaust. Lol! It means I will have to refill the tank before I get to Enugu.

This Nigerian road, eeh! Just killed my fun, because I was really enjoying the drive. But come to think of it, its all part of the fun. Lol! Other drivers were having pity on me, saying "Sorry o!", as they drive by, because my car blocked the road. But when some of them saw me pull out my shirt and went under the car, they must be thinking, "The man sef na mechanic". Lol!

Will keep you guys updated.

Is it possible to have the proceeds of the meeting in an electronic form? For the benefits of those of us not near Abuja.
This evening, it occurred to me that I can make a video (DVD), explaining in details all we have been discussing at the meeting here in Abuja so far, on all the topics. I can send the DVD to any member outside Abuja that indicates interest.

How do you guys see it? If that's ok, I will prepare the video next week as soon as I come back from my trip to Enugu/Anambra states.

Car TalkRe: INNOSON Rolls Out New Cars Into Nigerian Market (pic) by Ikenna351(m): 4:11am On Sep 02, 2014
AlfaSeltzer: I am very happy for the success of INNOSON, but Nigeria is not a car producing country. Twist the words as you want, Innoson is an assembler for the chinese car manufacturer, GAC.

Until INNOSON conceives, designs and produces parts, it is an assembler. A successful one, no doubt. But still an assembler of someone else's parts.
If I may ask you, what do you know about car production? Can you name one Automobile company that produces everything in their cars? Just name one company. That's all I am asking. Is it Benz or BMW? More than half of car companies all over the world don't produce transmissions they put in their cars, including engines. Most Peugeot Diesel engines were used and are still used by Ford and other car companies. Those that make those cars Peugeot cars? Even the then Peugeot 505 Turbos, those engines in them were not produced by Peugeot. But they got Peugeot badges on them. To make it easier for you, who produces brake pads you find in cars? The car brand? What about sensors, electronics and other components in cars? What about tyres? What about headlights. In fact, even designing of cars before they are produced are outsourced. How come your car left showroom with Denso spark plugs, Bosch parts, Sagem ignition coils, Michelin tyres, ZF auto transmissions, etc? So you think everything in Toyota cars were made by Toyota? You think all the transmissions in Toyota cars were made by Toyota? What exactly is your definition of production? So if the foreign Automobile companies could do the same, why do you find it hard to see it the same with IVM?

All Lions produced by PAN is made in Nigeria, even though they are French cars. All Nokia produced in China are made in China, even though they are Finnish technology and company.

And finally, the great Aristotle said and I quote " Imitation is the mother of invention". Nothing seems to be new on Earth anymore. Rather, unique.

I found out today that EW, TU & XU engines timing belt tensioners are now available in Abuja. I saw the EW engine tensioner this afternoon. Even took a picture of it.

I would suggest owners of these engines to henceforth replace the tensioners while replacing timing belt. The price is 7k. He even said he had idlers but have finished.

Remember that if a timing belt tensioner fails, irrespective of how new the belt is, will damage the belt as well and both will fail together.

The ES9 (V6) tensioner is not yet available.

There are other things, but will leave those ones to be discussed in the coming Saturdays meeting in Abuja.
