Choi... Seriously drooling all over the pics... Wouldn't mind doing a road trip to Ghana like Shagati, Maybe over Christmas if I can find other interested NLers... Ikenna are you interested??
Unfortunately, I will be doing the coming Xmas holiday trip with my 406 V6. Such trip you are suggesting will be more convenient for me when am on annual leave. Let's see how next year goes.Ikenna. |
@ OmoAkerele, It just occurred to me that we both have similar numbers on our 505 V6 number plates. We both have "505" on our number plates. Lol! Attached is the most recent picture of my Baby, taken last month or so. You can see the number plate, if you look closely. Ikenna
|
OmoAkerele: @Ikenna351; here are a few photographs of my beloved 505s in the Sahara, it took us 4 weeks from London/Cologne to Akure (Ondo state).Lovely! I can see your GTI SW8, with the ZDJL engine, is 1989 model. The side skirts said so. If I have my way, I would like to do such trip/adventure with my Baby. Am seriously under-using her. Even with all the trips I have done with her so far since I got her, she still looks sad. Why? She wants more. Lol! Please, you can send more of the pics to my personal mail address to feed my eyes: ikenna351@gmail.com. Ikenna. |
telexinfotech: Hi ikenna, my name is tunde and i am new to this forum. I would like to buy PP2000 on ebay from UK but not sure of the actual one to buy for my peugeot 407. Is it Diagnostic Interface V47 Diagbox V7.04 or Diagnostic Interface V48? There are also some with 30pins and some with 16 pins. Please adviseYou have a mail. Ikenna. |
davonny: @IKUnfortunately, a genuine new pressure plate is not sold separately, it comes in a pack as a kit: pressure plate, disc and throw-out bearing. So, the genuine new clutch kit for EW10 engine cost 25k, here in Abuja. Good morning. Ikenna. |
ibrodex: Really learnt a lot from this. But I am a car novice. Please I want to. Know the performance of a golf 3 2.0 DOHC.Treating the above post here will derail this thread. You can start a thread on it or post it in VW thread. Thanks. Ikenna. |
OmoAkerele: @Ikenna351: I enjoyed your photo diary of your trip, reminds me of my own 505 V6 drive in 2007 from London to Lagos... I loved my 505. I see you’ve got a K&N air filter...nice oneWow! You are the first Nairaland member i have met that have owned 505 V6 or have had ZN3J-PRV under his hood. That Lion is something else. Only a person that have owned one would understand. The aka "The King of the Lions" was not just given to her for mere sake back then in the '80s. It was exhibiting pure aggressive Lion character when in action, hence, the name. What more can i say ? I Love My Baby! Yes, i installd a cone filter, though the brand is Spectre, not the K&N. It has turned the engine note to something else. Even though i have used a 605 V6 before and now have a 406 V6 as my daily driver, but there is something, a character about this Lion which the other two lack. Am just a lucky guy! Good morning. Ikenna. |
Siena: Ease up, Ikenna. You know what online forums are like, so many different views on one subject. I doubt the OP or Elektra were attacking the Peugeot Brand. So he made a mistake, simply correct him.You don't get it. Elektra80 is not really after Peugeot. Peugeot happens to be a victim because of me. Go through his recent posts in car talk and see how he has been making effort to paint Ikenna351 black: Ikenna said this, Ikenna said that. And because Ikenna351 loves Peugeot brand, the brand is bad too. I don't work for Peugeot, neither do I work for PAN or any French company. I don't defend Peugeot where they have flaws. Have you visited Peugeot Thread? We discuss issues with our lions and possible solutions to them in that thread. So for anyone to say that am out here to defend and protect Peugeot brand is not been fair to me. Last time I checked, cup holder is standard in Peugeot 406. Spreading such false information or lies in Car Talk is against the forum rules. It may not go unnoticed next time. Ikenna |
davonny: Mr ik. I do feel some vibration on my car when I move from rest as I'm removinng my foot from d clutch. I notice d same thing when I change from gear 1 to 2. My is 406, 2002 model. This is making me not to enjoy driving d car. Pls what is happeningYour clutch pressure plate is failing (aka clutch disc in Nigeria ). It could affect your flywheel if you keep driving her in that state. You didn't state the engine model, to know if its DMF or not. Anyway, you know what to do to fix her up. *Note that the correct name is Clutch pressure plate. Not Clutch disc that Nigerians call it. Clutch disc is Clutch plate. Ikenna. |
elektra80: Ha ha ha, Mr Ikenna, I do not hate Peugeot. It was the way u attacked the OP that made me post my comment. Nobody is saying Peugeot is bad, but the fact remains they have been on the decline in Nigeria l, even though they have staged a comeback. So OP is right, u don't have to ask him what planet he came from because he was telling the truth. And about the 406 without a cup holder... That is very true. Now I'm not saying all 406 does'nt have one.. The one I drove doesn't and its a 2000 model. You are person that says only lazy and dummies drive automatic and another guy in ur support said Americans at lazy and even have cupholders in their car. So why die Peugeot start adding cupholders? You are so obsessed with Peugeot that u fail to see the truth, just like u also thinking people that drive automatically are dummies because of ur own personal interest. So Mr Ikenna, I did not shoot myself in the leg.I can see that you have a serious problem. I made a mistake responding to your post. How much you hate me is not my headache, but be mindful of how you spread false information in Car Talk. Ikenna. |
I always want to stay apolitical online, especially in Nairaland. So I wouldn't want to state whether am for or against the policy to ban Tokunbo vehicles. But we seem to be forgotten that the policy did not ban sale of used or 2nd hand cars, but the imported ones. Even back then when average Nigerians could buy brand new Peugeot 504s & 505s in the '70s & '80s, those who couldn't afford to buy new eventually got them as 2nd when the people that bought them new started selling them off. Likewise, Peugeot fans who can't afford to buy brand new 408s, 508s, 308s, etc, will eventually get them when those that bought them new start to sell them to upgrade. So the policy doesn't affect French car lovers. The only problem we may encounter is buying an abused one which Nigerians are very good at. But they can always be sorted out. Ikenna. |
elektra80: Mr ikenna and Peugeot sha, just like a chicken protecting her chicks and will attack whatever cones near them. I don't think the OP said anything bad about Peugeot, as a matter of fact what he said is the plain truth, whether u are a fan of Peugeot or not. What OP was trying to say was that in the past when PAN was still functioning very well, most cars in Nigeria were Peugeot, if u own a Peugeot 504 then u are a rich man and there was no influx of tokunbo cars. Fast forward several years later and its no longer the same, other manufacturers especially the japs have taken over. A beg how many Peugeot dealership can u count in Lagos... I can count several Toyota dealerships around where I live alone... Even in abuja there are far more Toyota dealerships. So the question is what did Peugeot do wrong, maybe they relaxed too much and let others take over. So Mr Ikenna, I don't think the OP was attacking ur dearest Peugeot, but truth is bitter. Maybe Peugeot have to make a comeback. I think Nigeria should first promote, monitor and fund indigenous companies, then encourage people to buy before phasing out tokunbo cara... This will take some years to accomplish. This your attitude or your hatred for Peugeot is becoming an obsession for you. In the other thread, you said Peugeot 406 doesn't have cup holder. I wonder what could be your reason for telling such a lie. Because you are telling those of us that drive 406 what does or doesn't exist in our 406? Sometimes, some of us behave as if Lagos is Nigeria, that other states of the country is not part of Nigeria. So if Lagosians don't drive Peugeot, no other part of the country would? Since you know how many Peugeot dealerships we have in Abuja, care to list them for us? In front of my office, there is a car dealer that was having only new Toyotas before now. Right now, the Toyotas are no more their. What do we have their now? I counted about 13 brand new Peugeot 508 Turbo and about 18 brand new Peugeot 3008. The company name is Madunka Motors Ltd., Plot 13 Masana Street, Zone 1, Wuse, Abuja. My office is facing that compound and am in my office right now . A lot of Forum members have visited me in my office, they can prove me wrong here if am lying. By the way, the address is there, why not come and find out? You want to tell me Toyota dealerships in Abuja outnumbered that of Peugeot? You just shot yourself in the leg. Ikenna |
Mlud: Anybody remember Peugeot Automobiles in Kaduna or VW in Ojo Lagos? Where are they today? Why have they been condemned to another page of Nigeria's economic history?I wonder what planet you are writing from, because sure it's not Earth. Lol! Because even in other countries, they know PAN is still in full operation. Whatever your argument is, keep Peugeot out of it. PAN recently introduced Peugeot newly lauched 508, 3008, 4008, etc. Even the new 408 sales started as way back 2011. I was at Auto trade fair at Eagle Square in 2011 when 308 & 408 were unveiled. Nearly all FG Parastatals, Agencies, paramilitaries, militaries, etc, are switching and started using 408 and 508 as official vehicles in Abuja. The number of new Peugeots on Abuja roads have started outnumbering other new cars from other brands. Privates individuals also drive 508, 408, 308, 3008, 4008, etc, in Abuja, which all came from PAN. So, face other car brands, abeg. PAN is still alive. Ikenna. |
@Ikenna Correct name is "Starter Motor" not "starter". No kill me o ![]() Car-Doctor.
It would be nice that you make sure the person you are correcting is wrong before you do so. My ZN3J Engine workshop manual and Electrical workshop manual named it "Starter". Of all the French car forums I belong to, Starter is the word we use. Americans would call theirs Brake Booster, while French name theirs Brake servo. Americans call theirs Serpentine belt, while French call theirs Auxiliary belt. You were not wrong, neither was I. oladele007: i have changed the alternator twice on the fault. i bought the same alternator still the same fault. i measure the volts is 12v when i start the car engine but when i raise the car engine the voltages drop gradually to 7 or less. thanksEither someone has messed up the connection to the Alternator or the auxiliary belt is driving it in the wrong direction. A good Alternator should give 14.5 volts to the battery when engine is running. When added a load on the engine (like switching on AC), the voltage should drop to 13.7 volts or so, but will never drop below 13 volts. In your case, the reverse is the case. Again, start by checking if the auxiliary was connected on the Alternator pulley, in the right direction. Ikenna. |
oladele007: oga ikenna, pls my 406 1996 model (petrol) is killing my battery, the 12 volts is dropping when i raise the car engine and when drive it for longtime the battery became hot and water comes out of it. i can not drive it in the night cos of the full light, when i drive it and put on the headlight for even 10 mins and i off the engine, the car engine will not start again or lease i start it with another battery. what is the cause and the solution? thanksI forgot to ask, did you replace or removed & re-install the engine auxiliary belt (belt that drives Alternator pulley and the rest)? Are you sure it was not properly re-installed and driving the Alternator in the wrong direction? What's your engine model? Since it's D8, it will be XU engine, unless it's not petrol engine. Look for a D8 or D9 with identical engine and check how the belt drives the engine (take pics to compare). Ikenna. |

@ Mac Emeka, Would suggest while cleaning the Stepper Motor, use that opportunity to clean the Throttle body as well. Will post how to clean the Throttle Body: Conventional Throttle Body and Motorised Throttle Body. The two have different method of cleaning. Ikenna |
Find in the link below pics I took while replacing the spark plugs on my ES9J4S yesterday. It will help who will like to do the same. http://www.aussiefrogs.com/forum/peugeot-forum/107287-es9j4s-spark-plugs-replacement-awesome-effect-engine.html#post1198840 Ikenna. |
Mac Emeka: Thanks bro ... I know where the throttle house is ... But can I do it myself ?Yes, if you have the right tools, you can. Ikenna. |
Mac Emeka: pls I drive a peuguot 406 1.8litre engine salon ...i notice that sometimes when I want to brake my engine goes off completely while in motion .. As in" Brake and Quench " does anyone have a a similar experience and solution to this problem?Find below a link to 'How to clean stepper motor'. http://www.406oc.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=3489 I have posted this link before in the earlier pages of this thread. The steeper motor is on the throttle body. But what's your engine model? Ikenna. |
Update on SV D9 Spark plugs replacement The fuel level on the fuel gauge refused to drop since morning I was moving about with the Lion. Even if it did, I couldn't tell, because it was at the same spot I met it this morning while driving in into my office compound this evening. As for the mpg, am yet to take the car for a long drive, since the engine needs to warm up to get the true mpg out of it. The coolant temperature, including the engine temperature, would have to warm up to optimal temperature before the fuel consumption reduces. It will take long drive on expressway on highway to achieve that. Ikenna. |
Gboliwe: simply ask the head of that section to move it to the right place. Is that too much to do?I wanted to ignore your above post, but changed my mind. Please, when next you visit Car Talk, drop Politics section attitude. For your information, a fellow moderator who should have known better, went and created that topic in Politics section, a wrong section for the thread. As if that was not enough, a super moderator put the thread in homepage and still left in the wrong section. You should also note that we the active members of Car Talk prefer our Threads not to be making homepage, since the ones they made would end up messed up by silly and nonsense comments from other sections. We are after quality comments. We like it quiet. But, like i told you earlier, until the thread in question is moved to Car Talk, this one remains open. You can help lay the complaint and have it moved. This will be the last i will respond to you on this. Ikenna. |
wisesystem: I changed the original plugs that came with my car in error while trying to solve an engine rough idling and jerking problem, which a scan later revealed was caused by a failed lower lambs oxygen sensor which i fixes. Well that not withstanding I left the new plug I, the car- brand name was segal with ref no.rfn: 58hz. Fr 8 sc, at the cost of 6000k. The plugs came highly recomended by my mechanic who i must say has really impressed me since i started patronising him. Well over time i noticed That my car's fuel consumption has increased noticeably and i suspected the culprit to be the spark plugs even with my limited. Well i reverted back to the 'follow come' plugs and my car fuel consumption since became optimal. As far as EW series engines are concerned, don't go beyond Bosch and NGK spark plugs. Peugeot designs their engines to work better with Bosch spark plugs heating ratings. Not all spark plugs will start EW series. The other day, someone put wrong spark plug in his EW10 307 and the car started smoking. So, the so called "Segal" spark plugs should have no business in that your engine. Ikenna. |

FG Bans Importation of Tokunbo Cars The Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved the national automotive policy in a bid to stop the importation of fairly used (Tokunboh) cars into Nigeria. The council also approved a total sum of N41 billion for the provision of road and other infrastructures in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The Minister of Information Labaran Maku, and his Trade and Investments counterpart, Olusegun Aganga, told State House correspondents at the end of the meeting chaired by President Goodluck Jonathan, said the new automotive policy is to encourage local manufacture of vehicles. Aganga disclosed that in 2012 about $3.4 billion (N550 billion) was spent by Nigerians importing cars while in 2010, the sum of $4.2 billion (N670 billion) was spent, indicating that car import takes the biggest share of the country's foreign reserves followed by other machinery. The new policy when fully effective will ensure the creation of minimum of 700,000 jobs in the auto industry. He further explained that the new policy followed nine months of work with input from the National Automotive Council and foreign car manufacturing giants like Toyota and Nissan that are to announce their specific investments in Nigeria soon. Aganga stressed that the bane of similar policies in the past, like non-implementation of policies, lack of infrastructure, and inappropriate tariff regime; were considered and adequately addressed in the new one, with even the Federal Road Safety Corps and local vehicle assembly plants/manufacturers involved. Aganga outlined the highpoints of the new policy to include the establishment of three automotive clusters in Lagos/Ogun; Kaduna/Kano; and Anambra/Enugu states to share resources and reduce cost of investments, as well as the development and revival of the petrochemical and metal/steel sectors and the tyre manufacturing industry to support the automotive sector. Also, the Industrial Training Fund (ITF) is working with car-maker, Cena of Brazil, to open automotive training centres in Nigeria while two Nigerian universities have agreed to commence degree programmes in automechanical engineering, all in a bid to provide adequate local manpower for the industry. Furthermore, appropriate tariff regimes to discourage car imports and encourage local manufacture will be put in place while government will continue taking the lead in patronage of locally made vehicles. Banks will be encouraged to operate vehicle purchase schemes to enable Nigerians purchase cars on easy terms and the FRSC will kick off a new vehicle car registration/tracking system in the next two weeks to check the smuggling of used cars into the country. How to Reset Service Indicator on D9 Instrument Cluster After replacing the spark plugs, I had to reset the service indicator, the spanner symbol on the instrument cluster, that has been warning me that the car was due for service. So, below is how to reset it: 1. Switch Ignition off. 2. Press and hold button 000 on the cluster. 3. Switch Ignition on. 4. keep the button 000 depressed. 5. The Display will count down from 10 to 0. 6. After keeping the button 000 depressed for 10 seconds, display will read 0. Release the button as soon as the display shows 0. 7. Switch Ignition off for 5 seconds, and switch it back on. The spanner symbol will now be reset. The display is now showing me that the next service will be due in next 30,000 km. Ikenna. |
Spark Plugs replacement: ES9J4S Since I got my SV D9, I observed that she would idle roughly at cold start for some minutes. Sometimes, it would misfire. But would go away until the engine warm up. Well, since I wasn't getting any fault stored in the ECU suggesting an issue, I ignored it. Last Sunday, I drove to Nyanya for a meeting with the SV. On my way back, some joined me to drop them off in town (3 passengers). From nowhere, the car lost all power while climbing the Kubo hill. She was just crawling, no matter how hard I depressed the throttle pedal. It was the first time I carried such number of persons in her. I was really disturbed. A V6, crawling like a 50 hp car! It was that serious. Since there was no error code stored, I decided to change what I have been suspecting all these while I got the car: spark plugs. The engine came with Platinum spark plugs: Bosch FR85PP332. Also, two more were recommended by Peugeot: Bosch FGR8MQPE & 9657642680. The Peugeot part number is RP596060. But because of two many fake Bosch spark plugs in the market, I decided to buy NGK platinum that would match. So, yesterday, I eventually bought NGK LFR5AGP, stock # 5018. The 6 of them cost 12k. Yes, N12,000 (it was painful spending that amount on just spark plug. But since Peugeot recommend Platinum spark plugs for that engine, I had to stick to it. I replaced the spark plugs later in the evening yesterday. Replacing spark plug on ES9J4S can be a pain. To get to the 3 spark plugs on bank 2 , the intake manifold need to come off. It took me 3 hours to get the intake manifold off and the spark plug replaced. But at least, I won't go there again for a very long time, since the Platinum spark plugs last 100,000 km, unlike the conventional or copper spark plugs that last only 20,000 km. I started the engine and it rough idled and took longer crank to start. I then knew the ECU needed to re-learn and adapt to the new components installed. So, I took it for a drive, drove back after about 5 mins. I let the engine to idle, left the AC on and came out of the car. But I wasn't hearing the fan spinning. I checked, the fan was on speed 1, but the speed 2 would always come on anytime I switched the AC on (the noisy speed). I was worried. So I checked all the fuses, both on the BSM and fuse box under the steering wheel and they were all ok. I then pulled out the front grille and checked the 3 relays that control the fans. They were all ok. Yet the speed 2 wouldn't come on, only the speed 1 was on. I connected my PP2000 and checked the fans operation. The PP2000 showed there was no fault in the fans system. Then a thought came to me. I switched off the engine, waited for 2 mins or so and started the car again. This time, the speed 2 came on, spinned for like a min and went off, leaving speed 1 on. I did that because when an engine goes off, the cooling system will go hotter since the fans cooling the engine will be off. It will take more mins before the coolant temperature will start going low. So, the test confirmed that the speed 2 was still intact. What it means is that all these while, the engine was running hotter because of the failing spark plugs, which was why the speed 2 would come on as soon I switched on the AC. Because the engine would have to labour more to power the AC, since the spark plugs have failed, though not completely. But now, the idling is perfect and AC load is no longer an issue. This morning, I was really amazed on how the car was moving smoothly. I never knew the engine was not running fine all those while. Now, the engine torque at low rpm is really amazing. Am yet to check the fuel consumption since last night. But if the car would average about 39 mpg with faulty spark plugs on expressway, I wonder what she would give now. I love French technology! So, if your radiator fans switch to speed 2 whenever you switch on your AC, then something is wrong. If you are not too sure when the spark plugs were replaced by the previous owner before you bought her, it would make sense to replace them with quality spark plugs and not with wrong ones. The 12k was worth it. Ikenna. |
