segzyndpep: @ikenna please what year 607 is advisable because i want to buy either 407 or 607..i presently use 406...have been sending you mail got no reply..answer me please...and do i go for manual or auto ?if i should go for auto tell me what i need to knowI have not received such mails. Anyway, for 607, go for 2005-2010 model. The 607 2005 model with EW12 engine has only 6-speed manual transmission, no auto box. But the 607 V6 phase II are all auto boxes. Only the pre-facelift V6 got manual tranny. Besides, stay away from 607 with auto boxes, since they are the boxes in 406 (AL4 & 4HP20), unless you are ready to live with or deal with the annoyances they come with. But if it must be V6 auto, then go for 2005 - 2010 model, since the V6 auto box in 406 V6 and 607 V6 is 4HP20, less troublesome than the AL4, but very rare and expensive to find for replacement. The box cost around 250k or so. But then, 607 is one of the best looking Pininfarina designed Peugeot ever produced. Note that 607 body parts and some mechanical parts (except engine parts) cost more than 406 parts. For example, 607 genuine front brake pads cost between 18k - 20k, while that of 406 cost 10k and 13k. As for 407, the phase II 407 is still very pricey. You can tell the difference from the tail light. The phase II 407 reverse light on the rear light glove is white. But there is nothing wrong with phase I, anyway. Ikenna. |
Hi Oga IK! I believe u ar doing great? I am enjoying my FOX (dt 2002 EW12 of course!). Last Sunday I travelled from Abuja to Kano and to Gombe on that very day. The power of EW12 engine is quite amazing. I normally do 140KPH or highest 160KPH but last Sunday someone with Kia Optima push me to doing 200KPH. The guy, after starting d mischief, was trying hard to cope but his “toy“ was not prepared for the task. I finally push my Machine little above 200KPH while the Optima kept becoming tiny in my rear mirror. My FOX really made me proud dt day. To cover more than 800KM in a single day & on our roads can be impossible to many cars. Those phone calls from Cotonou really paid. I will call when I‘m back. Thanks once again. @ House Members: One love.
The few minutes i test drove that car was enough to know what the engine was capable of. What really amazed me was how the car was behaving each time i flexed the throttle pedal a little. The high engine torque at low rpm really impressed me, which is very good in overtaking. A true FOX, it is! Like i recommended earlier, anyone who is scared of V6, but still like power, can go for D9, 407 or 607 with EW12 engine. Unfortunately, only very few D9 with EW12 engine got 6-speed manual transmission. Very few. But the 5-speed manual is good enough too. After all, the D9 V6 manual got 5-speed manual only, i think. As for the distance you covered, that shouldn't have been a surprise to you. Peugeots are designed to eat miles. It's what the brand is known for. Anyone who have been using Peugeot will understand. I didn't become Peugeot freak for nothing. hehe!Peugeot may not be known for fantastic electrics, but their mechanicals and chassis designs are too good to be ignored. Enjoy your Lion! Ikenna. |
@ sooper rescue, I would suggest to you to speak of what you know and leave the ones you don't know. You are beginning to sound as if no other member in Car Talk uses TOTAL engine oils. From your comments here, it showed that you have no clue or know little about TOTAL 5W40 (Quartz 9000). So you think every engine Oil is meant for every engine? Have you bothered to find out specific engines the oil was produced for? Did you bother to find out the specific recommended oils for those engines you claimed that had sludge? Where were the engine oils purchased from? Road side stores, TOTAL or Mobil fuel stations? The other day, somebody was saying he switched to TOTAL engine oil and his car engine oil temperature started hitting 100 degree Celsius. For that, he condemned the oil. Probably, the brand or oil grade he was using before would leave his oil temperature at 70 degree Celsius, no matter how long the engine had ran, even if the low oil temperature is killing the engine. Of course, he didn't check to find out the normal oil temperature for that engine/vehicle in the owners manual. If Oando works for you, stick to it. It doesn't mean the other brand of oils are bad, simply because they were put in wrong engines. Ikenna. |
slinkky: my friend complained that his 1995 406, stalls from time to time, especially in traffic, please what could be the possible cause.Tell your friend to clean the Throttle Body and stepper motor or IAC, whichever one that it's on the engine. Let him start from there. Ikenna. |

wisesystem: My fox however now shows an airbag fault. During the stalemate yesterday I remember reading on the instrument indicator PASSENGER AIR BAG DEACTIVATED. It also shows ECONOMY MODE ACTIVE, so I intend to scan my lion later today. Will keep the house updated. There is a passenger airbag deactivation switch by the cup holder, close to the handbrake. If it's in OFF position, insert the car key in it and turn it ON. You need to erase the stored faults in the BSI unit for the faults to stop showing. Use PP2000 for it or any scan tool that can communicate with the system. Ikenna. |
sooper rescue: If you use Quartz 9000, then it is 6 months and 10000 kilometers or 6000 miles. Transmission fluids are to be changed at every 15000 miles or the equivalent in kilometers or every year. Forget all those life time oil. It is at your own peril. We happen to observe cars that run on conventional oils are better serviced at 3000 miles or 5000 kilometers and when they come back after three months, no sludge in the engines. But if they come after 4 months, you will see sludge all over the engine oil chamber. The conventional 3 months is better or 6 months for synthetic oils. You are wrong. Ikenna. |
kabaka1: There's really no area in a car engine that can't take water.Very wrong. Ikenna. |
wisesystem: As seen above, I noticed three switches leading out of the component which I suspect control the lighting, air bags and sends messages to the BSI .... or so I think. @ Ikenna, kindly share your thoughts too.First of all, congrats for eventually getting your Lion roar back to life. What you passed through goes a long way to tell you how protected your Lion is. Never heard of such issue with BSI lions until today. When you said the Electrician mentioned something under the steering wheel that works with the key, the only thing I could think of was the Aerial behind the key switch, under the steering wheel, that recognizes the transponder in the key plip and signals to the BSI to authorize the engine ECU to function and run when engine is cranked. But because of other symptoms or tell-signs on the cluster, I ruled out the Aerial/Antenna, since the car was already immobilized before the key was even inserted into the ignition switch. From the pics, the part that was replaced that fixed the problem is an electronics. The fault could be any of those micro-ICs or whatever they are called. The failure could be caused by surge, sparks or water. Did any one at anytime cleaned the steering wheel cover with soaked cloth with water, so wet for water to have found it way into that board? This things take time to manifest. But then, the failure could be caused by anything. You seem to be the only one to have recorded such issue online, given the rest of us room to learn, at such a painful cost . You have taught us something new about our Lions today. Like we discussed on the phone, if the guy that did the scan with PP2000 had probed further, the faulty component would have been known that morning. Patience is what is needed to troubleshoot these Lions. Though someone have had a similar issue with his 508. But that was 508 and the part has a different name. For consolation, now you have known how secured the car security system is, which makes it almost impossible for the Lion to start without it's factory key, considering what goes on between the Key transponder, Aerial/Antenna, BSI unit and engine ECU before the car starts. yeddy99: mine showing INVALID.The sooner you realise that you have a problem and sort it out, the better for you. You are not the only one that has been issued fake number plates and fake driver's licence, and you may not be the last. You are not the only one that have used a road officer, yet issued fake licence or number plate. The day they will tow and seize your vehicle, thats the day you will regret not doing anything about it before then. For anyone who have verified his but didnt get "Number plate has been produced by FRSC and assigned to vehicle xxxxx on xxxx at xxxx", then you have a problem. Deal with it when you still can. Go to FRSC and find out why the number plate isn't assigned to your vehicle or why the registration is not yet completed. Is what I would do. Asking them these questions when they have stopped and seized your vehicle on the road won't help you. It's what I think. Ikenna. |
churky01: Thanks for the prompt response Ikenna, I found that the return hose of the PAS pressure pipe was cut by the left Fan. I used a hose to connect it pack as a temporary solution. They could not weld it for risk of fire.Congrats for sorting out your PAS and tranny issues. As for the AC compressor thing, it could be your PAS fluid that leaked and poured on the compressor pulley and its now burning off. Since am not there, i can't tell for sure. It's what i can think of from here, for now. Ikenna. |
@ Dyt, Next time you insult sultaan or any other member, you will be banned. You were lucky i didn't see this thread before now. Moderator. |
churky01: Hello Ikenna and the Lion house!Since your gear 1 and reverse gear go in well, then your clutch system is not the culprit. I want to believe they installed a faulty tranny for you. As for the PAS (power assisted steering), the leakage could be from the pressure line/hose or rack. Best way of finding out the leaking point is to spare N500 for the test. Buy any ATF fluid. Start the car, open the PAS reservoir cap, pour in the fluid, have someone steer the wheel and you will see the leaking point. Depending on how badly its leaking, you may not need anyone to steer the wheel to see where the fluid is leaking away from. Ikenna |
Prior before the replacement of my SV D9 spark plugs, each time I plugged in my PP2000, I would get: - Intermittent fault. Rear pre-catalyser. Ageing (P0430). What it means is that my bank 2 downstream sensor was reporting to the engine ECU that the bank 2 pre-catalytic converter was on its way out. And if the pre-cat finally fails, it will trigger on the CEL and will later set the car into Limp home mode. So, no matter how I erase the fault off the ECU, it would always come back and store in engine ECU. But after replacing the spark plugs, I cleared off the fault from the ECU. Since that day till this evening, the fault has not returned. I just plugged in the pp2000 and got "No fault stored in the ECU". You never know what bad or failing spark plug could be doing to the entire injection system and the engine. Ikenna. |
telexinfotech: It is AL4 transmission. Which should i buy? thankshttps://www.nairaland.com/1003701/peugeot-thread-psa-community/34 or ESSO PR 9736.22. Ikenna. |
telexinfotech: hello Ikenna, i am driving a peugeot 407 and would like to know the recommended automatic transmission oil to use to service the auto gear. thanksUnfortunately, I have no idea. But first, you need to know which transmission is it. AL4 or 4HP20? Knowing which of the two will determine the right ATF. I poster a link recently on AL4 ATF. Ikenna. |
bissalla: hello Ikenna,Sorry, I don't know Lagos to Onitsha road. Ikenna. |
jude33084: I did it but it is the same result,.....when I called the guy that did it at their Ido office, he was even shouting on phone that I will be arrested for calling a genuine plate number invalid. I could not meet him today because of my job.No kill me with laughter here, biko! A lot of people are been given fake new number plates on daily basis. The worst is the driver's licence. People still give touts passport to get driver's licence for them, when it has been made known that you have to be physically there for data capture. In this case, i would blame the victims. But in your case, you were just unfortunate because it can happen to anyone. Ikenna. |
I just verified my two Lions number plates and they are both valid/genuine. So, everyone should check or confirm his/her new number plate through it. The thread is now stickied. Ikenna. |
eamodu: Thank u oga me 4 ur reply.but b4 i put words across to ma friend,i wil want to knw if wat u refer to as oil pan is same to wat he refered to has bottom plant dt is actually leaking.thanks u sirYes, the correct name is Oil pan, not bottom plate. Another name for it is engine sump. Ikenna. |
spikes C: Hello all. I'm having a very big issue with my car. What made you think the culprit was the spark plugs? Were the spark plugs you bought your engine specification? The first thing you should have done when the symptoms first started was to scan the car and take it from there, because a lot of failing/failed injection components can give such symptoms. So, scan the car first and post the faults/error codes. By the way, what's your engine model? Ikenna |
spikes C: Oga ikenna, i need ur opinion abegRe-post the query here, because am not treating Peugeot issues outside this thread anymore. Ikenna. |
eamodu: Good mornin house.oga ikenna,i just got a call from a cconfused friiend whose 406 has a broken bottom plate n thererfore licks out engine oil.he was advised 2 change d engine completely.but i believe great mind like urs,can give out clear ways 2 handle dis problem if any other dan buyin a new engine.thanks n God bless u sir.Good morning. Your friend need to tell you exactly what the problem is. An oil leakage from an Oil Pan can easily be fixed by replacing only the Oil pan, without bringing down the engine. Even a quack mechanic knows this. So am surprised that his mechanic has suggested replacement of an engine for such a minor issue that won't take more than an hour to fix. But if truly the only issue with the car is oil pan leakage, then the mechanic must be a first degree clown. An oil pan can easily be removed and another re-mounted neatly with the engine still mounted, from under the car. It can easily be done on a V6 , not to talk of an I4. Ikenna. |
jcshols: So could u gimme ur email ad so that I send it there?I don't do non Peugeot VIN check. Start a thread on it. Ikenna. |
jcshols: Hello Ikenna, kindly help check ds VIN asap plsSorry, not allowed. The house is specifically for PSA cars discussion. Ikenna. |
A camshaft fault that keeps coming back after a cam sensor has been replaced with a good one and the harness intact, to me, means the timing belt or whatever that is driving that camshaft, is about to break, snap, slip off, etc. It's simply telling you the camshaft is out of position or the sensor is no longer detecting camshaft position, due to jump of tooth or whatever. If i were you, if i was sure the replaced sensor is new enough to be good and the sensor harness continuity to the ECU is intact, i would have opened up the timing chamber by now. A day delay could cost you a month regret, if that belt or whatever breaks on you. Ikenna. |
