hmmmm
I went to get my shoulder fixed too.
The doctor told me to lie down on a sort of bed.
a nurse and my boss were there.
The doctor kept talking to me and asking questions, then he said we have to wait for someone meanwhile he starts to inject me.

mehn.

That was where I lost consciousness but I really thought we were still having the conversation.
When I woke up later, my boss and the doctor had left, infact my boss was already in the next town. Only the nurse was at the foot of the bed and she was just laughing.

When I asked her where are the others and the person we are waiting for, she laughed more and more and finally she told me to work my shoulder that it's done.
I was surprised. I never knew I had passed out.
she asked me if I do drink alcohol, I said yes, she laughed the more. I asked why. she said she just knew.... I still don't know how she just knew till now.

But the kind of sweat I sweat as the drug was wearing off ehn, I haven't seen such before and never again. I was sweating like I was being drenched in rain and I felt groggy.

When my boss returned with my lunch and to take me home. I had lost appepite.
In the car I was at the back seat and he left the windows open as he sped off, I was still sweating that he was really alarmed.

At home, I left the lunch on the table, left my door open and slept for almost two good days before I became my normal self.

Nothing to tell me about linguistics. I grew up in a federal university environment. I have seen linguists across several countries. I just told you the usual excuse of Nigerian ones that you never hear from others. A widespread excuse.
I am sure I can tell you a lot more

Read my old posts about what I said about linguistics and philology as I was growing up. So you do not think I am just making up now.
I know you guys also claim Lamudi or is it Lamudu as your ancestor. grin

I know inferiority makes some Africans import themselves from the Middle East even after science has shown that mankind came out of Africa. cheesy
My mention of original languages is that you can never get the true original context in an original language as in a translated work. anyone who reads widely in various languages would know that.
Linguistics is not same everywhere. Only in Nigeria have I seen linguistics students who did it because that was all they were offered after Jamb. No interest whatsoever in Language in any way.

It's the only place where I have seen many linguists who made no effort to be proficient in a second foreign language. They are always quick to say linguistics is not about languages. Just an excuse of course. grin
well you haven't met me and I haven't told you that linguistics which I studied for four good years is not about languages. linguistics is about languages and will remain so for ever and ever. Amen.

A polyglot is someone speaking many languages, linguists have no such primary interest, Linguistics is simply the study of languages and nothing more.

there is a wide difference between studying languages and learning languages.
Linguistics is the same everywhere.

I can tell you that.

never said the word has the same origin.. my question is why wasn't the Yoruba kings using the Oba title till in the 20th century.. If we should agree you have the word in your language but it wasn;t used as a title till long after the Benin kings were using it..

Can you answer this question.. Benin, Oyo and Ife which one rose to be the greatest and most powerful kingdoms?
no Oba here uses it as title specifically except in Lagos. Oba means king. simple as ABC
Obas have different titles here.

to your question.... Oyo

No its Yorubas that are confused..
now u saying Oba is not a title in Yoruba it just means ruler?
I'm saying its a title Yoruba kings adopted from Benin..

can you explain why Yoruba kings were not refered to as Oba till around the 20th century?
what does oba mean in ur language.

Oba is as old as Yoruba language.
Culture › Re: Benins Are The Owners Of Ogboni Confraternity and olokun worship by illicit(m): 3:27pm On May 10, 2020
davidnazee:
So why weren't Yoruba kings called Oba till recently? the title Oba was adopted by the Yorubas in the 20th century..
you are still confused.

any king in Yoruba land is an Oba no matter the title adopted.

Oba simply means the presiding one. it is as old as the language.

the only place where oba is specifically used as a title in Yoruba land is in Lagos. Oba of Lagos, the previous title for the king of Lagos island was Eleko of Eko. ( The owner of Eko)

As a linguistic, what is the meaning of Ooni and Alafin?
it is linguist.

Ooni is short for Oonirisa ( human god or demigod)

Alaafin means owner of the palace.

these are titles for Obas (those who presides) in Ile Ife and Oyo respectively.
