OgogoroFreak: Self medication... Very foolish 38 years old man that would be a fool forever in two years time. From his narration he is not living with his family. He only comes around when there's a problem but never taken any issue serious. He didn't envisage the girl could die due to his nonchalant attitude. He would claim it's work that takes him away from his family, but are his family members benefitting from the 'work'? He could have sought for a cheap medical attention with one of the reliable medical centers around them (some private hospitals treat patient for a token) before the case went out of hand. I pity some irresponsible parents. RIP innocent child. I'm pained. |

I started reading this story yesterday. Thanks PamelB, I'm inspired. God bless you. PamelB: ***********************************
As I sat at the airport that morning, waiting patiently for my flight to be announced,I took a look at the event of the last two weeks.
I had remained indoors after Rose had shamefully left. I didn't even know when the others left. I only got busy with my laptop, always expecting emails from the university
The mail finally arrived on Friday morning. I was about going to shower when it came in. I was so excited that I placed a call to mum immediately. She was also happy, telling me what to do in anticipation for my journey. I started packing my stuffs immediately. I choose to go to the bank that day. I got the money mum had given me transfered into a new account, withdrew the amount I needed for a little shopping, stopped at a supermarket and got all the things I thought I needed before going back home.
The house was extremely quiet when I arrived so I just stole in the things I had bought. I continued my packing till I eventually got tired, had my dinner in my room and went to bed.
Saturday morning,I left for the embassy like mum had advised. I showed them my admission letter and after series of questions, they booked a flight for me on Tuesday morning. I got my flight ticket and left for home in the mid afternoon. While I drove in,I met Gospel about leaving the house. Before I could finish parking the car,he was already waiting for me to get down.
Gospel: Hi.
Me: Good day.
Gospel: What's up? Earlier this week, you've refused to be seen and now, you're going in and out. Tell me,are we celebrating anything soon?
I smiled and locked the car.
Me: Of course. But mum will be the one to tell you that.
Gospel: You no longer go to school. Why?
Me: Cause I gave myself a break. Besides, you don't think it's easy for me to come to terms with the fact that my companion just left.
Gospel: Hmmm. I get.
Me: You going out?
Gospel: Yeah. Want to get one or two things.
Me: Alright. See you then.
I walked into the house with my handbag and began to recheck my stuffs.
Now,I was ready to travel and begin a new life.
On Monday evening,I decided to join. the guys for dinner. The girls had sent my food upstairs but I asked them to take it down. I walked down the stairs with my heart beating fast.
Ken: You decided to join us,thank God for that.
I smiled and Gospel peered at me.
Gospel: This girl is up to something. She acts weird this days. Or is it the absence of Kamsi? We both feel same way too
Ken: I think it's more than that. I just can't place my hand on it
Me: You both should just quit gossiping about me in my own presence and eat. Not because mum isn't around.
They laughed and we settled down to our food. After eating,I took away the plates and quickly went outside to inform the gateman that he'll be taking me to the airport as early as 5:30am tomorrow. He was confused and I pleaded with him to keep it confidential.
That night,I parked my things into the car I intended to use in order to make my departure unnoticeable to the two brothers. I was leaving the Kalu's residence for good and I know it is far more better than the way I had left the Okoyes'.
My flight was scheduled for 8:00 but I was at the airport as early as 6:30. I got a room where I intended to get an hour sleep but sleep wouldn't come. I hadn't closed my eyes one bit last night and I knew it was going to affect me.
Exactly one hour later,I'm now here, waiting for my flight to be announced. It came just as I looked at my wristwatch the 100th time that morning.
As I walked out of the departure door,a single tear dropped from my eyes as I thought about Ken and Gospel. I had left them in the dark and they wouldn't forgive me for that.
I found my seat and sat down, bent my head and let my tears flow.
Ken: Excuse me ma'am,you should be sitting this side.
I looked up and behold,it was Ken. My tongue suddenly went dry. He lowered himself beside me and shook his head.
Ken: Why are you crying? Since you think you're doing the right thing?
I bent my head again and wept audibly.
Ken: I knew something was wrong. I knew it,so I followed you,I monitored all your movements,I knew everything you did,all the calls you made, even your admission. Why did you choose to do that to me? You know how much I love you and you chose to walk out of my life when I needed you most.
Me: I had to,I had to do it. There was Gospel and then you. What was I supposed to do?
Ken: Gospel will be going back to owerri today do you know that?
I shook my head in the negative.
Ken: I told him and he asked me to follow you. Reject me again and I'll scream loud and clear for everyone to know how badly you've been treating me.
Me: Ken please. I have to go.
Ken: I'm not stopping you from going. I'm following you. I'm actually in this flight. We're going together.
Me: What?
Ken: Yes.
The fasten your seatbelt announcement came immediately and we did that. I still looked on in surprise. Immediately we took off,he held my hand and I turned to him
Ken: Don't love me and I'll keep on following you till I die.
Me: Ken?
Ken: We'll meet mum, she'll give us her blessings.
He hugged me and I cried in his arms. He cuddled me like life depended on it and I felt safe in his hands.
Ken: Remember I had promised you,I'll never leave you alone. We're in this together and that's how it'll remain.
And so it came to pass, five years later,I've graduated from university and is now a certified medical doctor, returning home for my traditional and white wedding. As I walked into the arrival of the airport, the faces I saw were all faces of people I had loved and will always love.
Ken was with a billboard with the inscription "Mrs Kalu" on it.
Gospel: Was holding a pregnant Nenye. They had wedded the previous year and I had seen their pictures.
Mum: Still looking young and full of life.
Ted: All smiles with a child that looked just like him
Kamsi: Heavily pregnant with face full of smiles.
We all went into a long embrace, each trying to say something against the other playfully. On our way home in the sienna,I got a text message on my phone,
"we'll never leave you alone. didn't I promise?"
It was Ken who was sitting behind me. I looked at him and smiled.
I had a loving family and a lovely fiance who would be my husband tomorrow. I've got a fulfilled life and I'm happy I never ended up ALONE.....
It doesn't matter what life throws at you. Pick it up and make something good out of it. All bitter stories don't always end sorrowfully the same way all beautifully stories never end happily. There's a light at the end of every tunnel the same way every dark cloud has a silver lining. Your story today may be a lesson to someone else tomorrow so take life suffry and never regret any second of it.
Thank you all for sharing in my story. I love you all to the moon and back to earth especially everyone of you who supported the growth of this story, who invited friends to the thread, who shared the links, and those who read and refused to acknowledge it. I love you all.
ALONE .......the end |

domex007: hi guys
i have been a nairaland follower since 2013.
i am sorry my testimony is coming late. i hope it helps raise the hope of nigerian youths seeking greener pastures here.
i have been denied USA student visa in 2013, 2014 and 2015 i then turned my dreams to canada (paid my school fees in full and was still denied student visa in 2016 after waiting over 3months) at this point my money was almost finished and my family started advising me to start studies here in nigeria
i enrolled for yaba tech part time program while i also chased my travel dreams in Germany. i was also denied visa to germany because i couldn't raise the 8,800 euro blocked account.
at this point, i was frustrated and desperate, but the work load from yabatech and my business kept me from depression.
immediately, after my graduation in Yaba i decided to give USA one last trial knowing fully well that i will be denied but i kept on pushing forward
my interview went thus: first, my interview was for 6;30 13th august 2018 but for the first time i got to the embassy very late and i was not scared or nervous. it rained heavily that day and the rain no pity me at all. i just protected my documents and went it. i was very cold and feeling sick. i just wanted to do my interview and leave. i was bending down to make my self warm and was almost sleeping before the person behind me told me that it was my turn.
My interview was very long.........
my interview: (a Beautiful black american woman): VO: Hi there. are you okay? Me; Hi. yes i am fine. i am just cold. with fake smile on my face. VO: oh okay why are you going to the USA? Me; for my undergrad studies in Business Administration and management VO: when did you finish high school? Me; 2012 VO; what have you been doing since: Me; I went for a computer diploma program for a year. then i started applying to Universities in US, Canada, Germany and Nigeria. Things didnt go as planned with the Abroad studies so i went for my National diploma in yaba that took me 4years. VO: Why did you choose to continue studies in US? why not nigeria? me: the educational system in nigeria is really poor even though it is affordable to study in nigeria. my program for example is suppose to be a program of 2 years but due to the strike and poor educational amenities it will take me longer time to graduate here in Nigerian university. And i believe in the proverb; "what is what doing is what doing well" VO: Why do you Change your course? Me; briefly after my studies i open a Human Hair Business with the financial assistance from my uncle but i need more board knowledge in the field of business. thats why i decided to change my program to help me business grow when i return to Nigeria. VO:how many Universities did you apply to? Me; A lot VO; sorry i meant how many gave you admission? Me: 6 VO: wow, name them Me: saint peters University, University of central oklahoma,Troy University, University of manitoba, Canada. Conestoga College, Canada, and the last one Westfallen, Germany VO: can i see some other admission and I-20 me: *i smiled because i know she didn't trust me. I passed them to her and apologized because they were a bit wet. Vo: passed them back and asked how i found out about Saints Peters University Me; My cousin who is a US citizen studied there and he has nothing but praise for the university. VO: what classes will you be taking? Me: I smiled because this question was the reason why i was denied the 2nd time. I answered them sweetly VO: what will happen to your business when you leave Nigeria. Me; Presently, i have filled my sister in on the basic things she needs to know to keep the business alive until i return VO: can i see some of the business documents ME; i passed her CAC document and business bank statement with just 400k in it Vo: who is paying for your studies? Me: my uncle? VO: Why? Me; He has been the one funding my education due to the death of my father in 2007 VO: what does he do? Me; He is a medical doctor VO: Can i see his bank statement? Me: Passed his bank statement VO: he is in the US? Me; Yes ( at this point i thought i will be denied) VO: what is his legal status Me; He is a citizen Vo: do you have his tax clearance? Me: Passed them VO: flips through and returns them
*starts Typing endlessly as i was waiting for my denial letter* God surprised me as she raised her head and gave me the White paper and said the magical words
VO: Congratulations and goodluck in your business Me; *straight face* Thank you so much ma
Me: stepped out in the rain. the jubilation in me chased the cold away My family cant still believe it until the day they excorted me to the airport with tears of Joy in the eyes of my Lovely mom
I got to US on December 4th, Cold has been dealing with me since....
My dear brothers and sisters, I give thanks to God for the delay i faced before because He was using it to help me build a business for my self here in Nigeria. i wore simple native attire, went last with so many red flags and still got the visa. It can only be God.
i hope my testimony boost your hope. Give it your best!
I also thank all Nairaland members especially Amefrica, Gravinton, Stewee, Kunlebal, Walspring, even Justwise as i Welcome myself to AMERICA Congratulations! |

God bless you. I pray the poster read and digest on this. Let's live a selfless life in every area of our lives. Life doesn't revolve around whosoever thinks he /she is the boss alone. Let's stop subjecting our spouses to unnecessary slavery. EfemenaXY: Divorce. Divorce. Divorce.
Divorce isn’t always the answer to marital problems and should never be taken lightly especially when there are children involved.
This should only ever be the last resort if all else has failed.
Besides, there’s always three sides to every story:
~ His side ~ Her side ~ The truth
Based purely on your side of the story, you need to do some serious soul searching and ask yourself why your wife changed overnight.
The first few years of marriage are the honeymoon stage. You courted this woman for 11 months. That’s quite a while to have studied her. There is no way a person can keep up the pretence for 11 long months (unless yours was a long distance relationship?). There must have been red flags. You just chose to ignore them.
Nonetheless, there HAS to be a reason why she’s suddenly turned 360os on you. Obviously there appears to be:
1. An emotional black hole in your relationship. The ex turning up is a symptom of the underlying issues with your marriage. A woman would only turn to an ex or another man if her emotional needs aren’t being met. For example when discussing with your wife, do you seek her opinion / input or do you wave aside her views? Do you say “Thank you” to make her feel appreciated when she gives / does something you are a recipient of? What is your sex life like with her? Do you take the time to satisfy her needs? Or is it all about you, you, and you? Is life with you one endless boring routine? Or do you make efforts to spice it up?
2. Trust Issues. When a wife starts stashing away huge sums of cash in secret, it means she’s preparing a nest egg for herself and her kids without you in the picture. Most times this action arises from betrayal or if she perceives you to have betrayed her. Have you ever cheated on her? Or done something to make her feel insecure in your union?
3. Immaturity. A refusal to acknowledge one’s fault / mistake and apologise accordingly is usually down to misplaced pride and immaturity. Wisdom comes with age. How old is your wife?
For a marriage to work, both parties have to roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. You have to ask yourself if there’s any part of you that wants to salvage the marriage. If you do, then you need to ask your wife if she’s still interested in the marriage too.
If the answer is “yes” from both of you, then both of you need to make the effort to save it. Start by seeking help from a neutral third party such as a marriage counsellor. Book a couple of sessions with them so you and wifey can talk through your issues.
Your problems didn’t start today. They’ve festered for over four years so you need to be patient and not expect everything to be miraculously resolved in one day. A lot of patience, perseverance, and constant communication will be needed to get your relationship back to a healthy state.
It is well. |

This is what always happens when a man desires a slave for a wife or vice visa then the bad ones study you and pretend along, just to hook you.
Had it been, you are the type that shows love and allow your girl to be herself, there wouldn't be any need for a monster to pretend to be an angel, just to hook you.
I pray God safes you from this mistake you've made. Next time, give more love than receiving, with that, the lady will feel too relax, and from there you'll know her true colour, otherwise, you will continue to get wolf in sheep's clothing as wife. People study other people's major weakness and use it as a strong weapon to defeat you. My opinion though. |

slamcole: Happy new year guys. I pray this new year ushers in plenty of white papers for admitted spring students and prospective fall applicants.
I'm one of those who joined this thread half-way to prepare for my interview and I'm must say this thread was of great help to me as I was able to develop a concise transcript for my interview.
Got my visa in the early days of December last year and my departure is just few days from now.
So my advice to prospective applicants is 1. Do your homework in identifying credible and above average schools to apply to. 2. Sit for neccesary tests even if not required by school. This present your case as a serious student to the VO 3. It doesn't matter the number of schools you applied to, because even submitting your application to plenty schools amounts to a waste of money when such funds could've been used for other expenses. 4. If funding is your priority, then be rest assured that you'll be supported by the school you're applying to prior to submitting your application. 5.Work on your SOP and get very strong recommendations from people who have a sound knowledge about you. 6.Pray very very very hard.
P. S: If anyone still has upcoming interview, I'll be available to set up a mock with such person. This is my only way of giving back to this thread. I'll also be reposting my transcript as well.
Have a wonderful celebration. Amen. |

Second the test in not mandatory as a blank rule... it then depends on each school requirement. If your school needs it then yes and I think you can do any test or immunisation in Nigeria. If your school doesn't ask for it then don't worry about it I appreciate ma. Thanks a bunch. |

VO: Can I have your I-20 and passport

Me: I am going to the US because PhD in the US distinguishes itself in terms of research and mentorship. The PhD is structured into coursework and thesis, this will make me grounded in both theoretical and practical areas of my chosen line of research. Academic mentorship is also direct in the US, thereby having direct and ongoing mentorship with my thesis advisor until the completion of my studies. Also, studying in the US will expose to me to latest research in the field, prioritized by the US CDC and funded by National Institute of Health.
