I'm igbo but I concur with you on this. After all, Ekweremadu was DSP for eight years and the southeast and Enugu in particular has nothing to show for that. Even when OBJ was president for 8yrs, the Southwest didn't gain much, compared to the period 2011-2015 when they didn't have any one in the top 6.

In 2015, Buhari got his highest vote in the whole South south from Edo State.

There are indigenous Muslims in Edo State, especially in Edo North and Edo central senatorial zones.

To think the governor would see Muslim votes as inconsequential as you put it would be naive, to put it subtly.

The dynamics of the votes polled by Buhari in Edo State and Imo State is very different my friend.

Religion is still very much a sentimental issue in this part of the world and Muslims are very sentimental with their religion compared to Christians. Fact.

Still, I believe the saving grace of Bob Izua as regards his park at ringroad is the mosque there. Remove the mosque from the equation and the park is as good as demolished.

Let's not be sentimental here. Everything in politics always comes down to how it will influence votes.

The Governor might not be a known politician, it wouldn't be wise to think he hasn't learned anything in politics the past 3yrs.

Buhari is not popular in any of the southern states but he got over a 180k votes in the last elections. Who do you think constitute the majority of that figures ? Muslims my friend.

So many governorship elections have had winners with less than the figures Buhari polled in Edo State and you say Muslim votes are inconsequential ?

With Benin City growing and becoming more cosmopolitan, the Bini's will soon become a minority group in its own city. After all ,the red Indians are a minority group in America that's traditionally their ancestral lands.

Bottom line, No group is inconsequential whether in the minority or majority.

I'll hold the view of a witch-hunt by the state government if Bob Izua's park is demolished and the Central mosque is not.

Bob Izua's park, besides the central mosque was marked down for demolition so, the believe is that the central mosque will be brought down too since its on same space with the park. Seems the government doesn't want to alienate Muslims votes so they've been looking for a way to demolish the park without touching the mosque.

How was the central mosque issue resolved? Will the mosque be relocated? Anything short than that, while Bob Izua's park is demolished will be seen as witch-hunt by most Edo citizens. Especially after his other buildings has been demolished.

It's all a ploy and was once adopted by the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki. In 2016, similar ban was placed on the union led by one "Nomoless" and Akugbe ventures led by Tony Kabaka (who celebrated having "1Billion" ..Yes !!! 1billion in 2013 during the Adams Oshiomole regime) but since 2018, we've been seeing members of the NURTW collecting revenue in the same state. It's all politics. Since 1999 when Lucky Igbinedion made one Bob Izua famous and rich through the same scheme, Adams followed the same template and made Nomoless and Kabaka rich. Though Obaseki tried to tow a different line but these guys have been so entrenched in our politics that they now seem untouchable. From Lagos State to Ondo State, to Edo State, to Oyo state etc, No governor with a second term in mind can truly proscribe the group
