Listening of the petition submitted by Ladoja, who was the candidate of

Accord Party in the election began in earnest yesterday after the bottom line of pre hearing on Monday.

Ladoja is challenging the declaration of INEC which gave victory to Governor Ajimobi saying the election results were not true reflection of the votes cast.

Although the first and second task force’s counsel opposed the admissibility of the documents, it was accepted and marked by the tribunal.

At the time of filing this report, reports from three local governments, namely Atiba, Atisbo and Iseyin had been tendered,

A brokenhearted mum has pleaded for the help of Chelsea fans in finding her missing son – who go missing 11 months ago – after she ‘spotted‘ him in the crowd at Stamford Bridge.
Lesley Edwards, 54, has been desperately searching for Jon Anderson Edwards after he go missing without a trace while working in Lagos, Portugal, in September 2014.

The chef, originally from Arbroath, Scotland, suffered head injuries in a fall and the 31-year-old then failed to turn up for work.His friends later discovered he had left his clothes, passport and phone in his apartment and a police search in both Portugal and the UK has so far drawn a blank
But Lesley, who initially traveled to Lagos to search for Jon, believes she may have spotted her son among Chelsea supporters in a picture taken at a recent game.
She told Mirror Online:

“We’ve been searching for him for almost a year now and we’ve had so many wrong sightings and different twists and turns but I saw that picture last night and said ‘God that looks like John’.
“My heart skipped a beat and I was up half the night. Even if we can find the information to discount it at least we can move on but if it’s not him it’s his absolute double…

Lesley is looking for help from anyone who may be able to confirm or rule out the sighting and an appeal has already been shared more than 1,500 times on Facebook.

The United States’ Special Envoy and Coordinator for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications, Rashad Hussain, has concluded his visit to Nigeria.
He had been visiting Abuja since last Thursday.
While in the country, Hussain met government leaders, including President Muhammadu Buhari, regarding efforts to counter violent extremism.The Special Envoy also met with civil society, community and religious leaders, including the Sultan of Sokoto, and held meetings with Nigerian partners to examine ways to combat extremist activities and promote peaceful relations among all communities.

Hussain’s visit followed incessant terror posed by the Boko Haram sect.

A woman committed suicide by jumping in a well because her daughter shunned her .The 55-year-old mother of five, Amoke Adeko, jumped into a well in front of her residence at Ajilekege Street, Pipeline bus stop, Idimu, Lagos State. She was recovered dead at about 11pm by officials of the Lagos State Fire Service .
It was learnt that she had been traumatized after her husband died eight months ago.Her grandson was said to be marking his birthday in the Igando area on the fateful day. A resident told PUNCH Metro that Adeko’s daughter, Amirat, the mother of the birthday boy, had brought a package of food prepared during the ceremony for her mother. It was said that Amirat, however, refused to give the woman the package in person, but sent someone else to take the food to her.

It was learnt that Adeko took the action as being shunned by her daughter and decided to end her life.
The resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said,

“The woman had not been herself since her husband died. Amirat brought the food for her that afternoon, but she avoided her and sent it through someone elese.

“I don’t know why she did that, but the mother felt embarrassed because she saw her daughter from afar. It was around 5pm. About two hours later, she jumped into the well.”

Our correspondent learnt that a neighbour, who heard a sudden thud, rushed to the well and saw Adeko’s slippers beside it. He was said to have raised the alarm after he went to her room and looked round the compound but did not find her.

Adeko’s first son, Ahmed, said he was not aware that Amirat shunned their mother, adding that she usually visited him and his siblings.
He said,

“She used to come to my place; spend some weeks and visit my sister too. This is her husband’s house and we can’t say she should leave. Before the incident happened, she had been with my sister for some weeks. We took her to her church and after some prayers, we decided that she should go back home. That we don’t come here always does not mean we abandoned her. My dad died eight months ago; we did not abandon her.
“I don’t know what led to the incident but she was not traumatised. That day, my sister was marking her son’s birthday and I sent her to bring food for mum. She brought the food around 2pm. It was around 5.30pm that a resident called to inform me about the incident. She (Amirat) is not around now but she did not tell me that she gave the food to somebody else to deliver to her. What she told me was that she met her upstairs.”

A friend of the deceased, Grace Agboyin, while lamenting her death, said she was the one that used to look after her.
Agboyin, who spoke in Yoruba, said,

“We were very close. Since the trauma became serious, I always went to her shop to chat with her. I ensured that she ate and used her drugs regularly. She had grown lean since her husband died because his death really touched her. She used to visit her children.

“I was in my shop when I heard people shouting that Iya Ahmed (Adeko) had jumped into the well. I was very surprised.”

The 3 kids, Christiana, Feranmi and Pelumi, who were burnt to death in the fire that engulfed some shops at Mechanic village, Oke-Afa, Isolo area of Lagos State, would have escaped death last Thursday, had their mother granted their wish.
The children, as gathered, begged their mother to take them with her, when she was leaving at about 10p.m., promising the children that she would be back by 11.30p.m.According to a woman, who claimed to have been with the children’s mother at the time, Pelumi, 6, passionately begged his mother not to lock them inside. Their mother was said to have bought them biscuits and bobo drink, and then left.

However, she did not see them alive again as the 2.30a.m. fire burnt them to death. The children’s mangled bodies were reportedly discovered close to the door with the eldest’s hand on the door handle apparently trying to open the door.

Since the incident occurred, most of the shops around have remained under lock and key except a beer parlour, close to the burnt shops.

Investigation by Vanguard revealed that the woman, who is now on the run, was first married to a man, but divorced him after having four children for him.

The estranged husband was said to have taken two of the children, leaving Christiana and Feranmi in their mother’s custody.

Thereafter, she reportedly got hooked to her present husband who resides in Ejigbo area, whom she had two children for.
Her husband was said to have given her two shops. She used one for sales of provisions and salon operation, while the other served as bedroom. Report had it that she usually locked the children in the shop any time she went out.

A resident, Mr. Gbadamosi Lawal, said:

“Her husband was devastated when he visited on the day of the incident. He was too shocked to speak to anyone. Everyone thought she went to his house.“But what we heard was that she went to her present lover’s place. Her present lover said he did not want any man’s child in his house, which was why any time she went visiting him, she locked the children in the shop.“On that day, she went with the youngest child, who is about three years old. Everybody is angry with her. In fact, I do not think she will come anywhere near here because she may be lynched.”

Meanwhile, Lagos State Police Command seems to be silent on the fire incident alleged to have been triggered by a head-on collision between a LT 27 bus being chased by a team of policemen, and a 14-seater stationary commercial bus.

Report had it that a team of policemen, suspected to be from Ejigbo Division, chased the LT 27 bus loaded with jerry cans filled with petroleum product.

The Police on Friday advised members of the public using ATM at various banks to be security conscious as some criminals now disguised as customers queuing to withdraw money.
This is contained in a statement on the Nigeria Police Force website exposing the antics of criminals.The statement noted that on July 30, at about 12.10 a.m., a male bank customer went to withdraw money from one of the ATMs at the Central Business District (CBD), Abuja.

It stated that three young men who pretended to have come to withdraw money also were on queue with the plan to attack the man.

“The victim raised an alarm which attracted nearby Police Patrol team to the scene. The hoodlums took to their heels upon sighting the advancing policemen.

“One automatic pistol fell from one of the suspects and was recovered by the police and the victim was safely rescued.

“However, another male victim was unlucky as hoodlums attacked him and snatched the N500,000 cash he withdrew from ATMs on July 28.

“Police responded to his distress call and one of the suspects was arrested. Efforts is on to apprehend other gang members,’’ the statement said. (NAN)

This is simply today’s Nigerian music! Something is terribly WRONG with it! Yet millions around the country – especially the young people – listen to it by the hour. WHY?
What is there about this music that is so gripping? How can something so meaningless hold millions under its spell? Why does it serve as a common denominator – as “the tie that binds” – for so many youths?
Judging from how and what they’re saying and singing, it is easy to conclude that some of these artistes should be taken for mental evaluation! Music mirrors our emotions; it reflects our thoughts; it echoes our activities – it shows us the way we really ARE!

Most Nigerian artistes are confused and bewildered – or they wouldn’t sing songs about not being able to tell right from wrong, or songs which purposely don’t say or mean anything, or which try only to “embody an emotional state that points indirectly to marijuana and crazy sex positions.”
Music – just like other forms of art – is like a social barometer. A strong and healthy society produces dynamic and stimulating music; a diseased and decaying society produces sick and decadent music.

It’s a simple matter of cause and effect!
This is now a SICK SOCIETY and, therefore, it produces SICK MUSIC. It’s just that simple! Both parents and the young people are to blame. My point is, we all don’t have to be a part of this sick society – or its sick music.

Even talking about today’s gospel songs, many are lacking in purpose and quality. The gospel singers are forgetting that God believes in QUALITY. Look at the universe He created! He also believes in human improvement and GROWTH. “Become ye therefore perfect” (Matt. 5:48) and “Grow in grace and knowledge” (II Pet. 3:18), He commands.

God wants His people to grow in the right kind of culture – the right kind of appreciation for the finer things in life. He says that mature Christians are “those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to DISCERN both good and evil” (Heb. 5:14).

God wants us to EXERCISE our 5 physical senses. He wants us to learn what the true values for the enjoyment of the senses are. One of these senses is hearing. And one of the ways we need to exercise our hearing sense is in the appreciation of quality music. Quality in music involves, first of all, the way it is composed or arranged. Secondly, it involves how the music is performed. And thirdly, the setting (the place and occasion) in which the music is heard.
You attend a concert only to see artistes with a hodgepodge of idiotic noise played from a CD and the audience seated at round tables like they are in a canteen, screaming with mouthful of small chops and ‘samosas’ as every new song is introduced by the performer. What utter nonsense! What is WRONG with us? How did we completely lose our sense of value regarding music? Do we even know the purpose of music?

A mother justifies her daughter who’s listening to an obscene song by saying, “If you listen to the words of that one, it’s pretty rough. But it has a real good beat. My daughter says she doesn’t pay any attention to the words anyway.” Are we really that naïve? What erroneous reasoning! Go along with the crowd – even if the crowd is on the way to suffering, misery, pain, extinction? Do we think that these songs have no part in the tidal wave of promiscuity, venereal disease, illegitimate babies that are all over the country today? If you are one of those who like today’s Naija music, you ought to honestly and truthfully ask yourself WHY.

It was a black Wednesday for the family of Mr. John Nwabufo of Nkwelle-Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State as a generating set reportedly set his family house ablaze, with the man and his wife, Ndidiamaka, and six children managing to escape death by the whiskers.
According to a source, trouble started for the family when one of the sons allegedly carried a lantern close to the generator, which ignited a fire that engulfed the entire house.
The source said soon after the outbreak, Nwabufo, a bed-ridden, partially blind man, was evacuated alongside his wife and children through the window by sympathisers.

One of the eyewitnesses, Chief Vincent Anyakora, who is also the chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in the area, said the incident occurred in the wee hours when the family members were still asleep.

He said: “The family was still asleep when the house caught fire and neighbours started shouting, which made the entire residents to storm the place and rescue them.

“The entire building had caught fire when the rescuers came and they had to break the window from where the blind man, his wife and their six children were rescued.

“If not for God, their father, who is partially blind and had been bed-ridden for years now, and his entire family would have been wiped out by the fire.

“You can see the generator that caused the trouble; it is completely burnt and every property was burnt, except only the family members who were rescued alive.”

Also speaking, the elder brother to the blind man who lost his house, Mr. Jacob Nwabufor, said: “My brother is currently staying in my house after losing his house and every other thing he had on earth to the fire and cannot start life afresh unless the state government and good spirited individuals and group come to his aid.

“His wife, Ndidiamaka, has fled the community until after some days to enable the women clear the ashes. That is our tradition.”

Kwara State Police Command, yesterday, paraded four suspected kidnappers, who have been allegedly terrorising residents of Omu-Aran in Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesman of the command, Ajayi Okasanmi, who paraded the suspects before journalists in Ilorin, said they were arrested after they kidnapped a Sarikin Fulani, Aliyu Harande, at Omu-Aran town.

Okasanmi told journalists that the victim was kidnapped while praying in a mosque behind his house in the town.

He added that the suspects were arrested by the command’s anti-kidnap team, who swung into action after receiving report of the kidnap.

The police scribe also said the suspects, from whom he disclosed that police recovered a vehicle and guns, allegedly confessed to being responsible for various kidnapping cases around the Omu-Aran axis.

Okasanmi said the case was still under investigation as efforts were on to arrest the leader of the syndicate, who still at large.

The police spokesman also disclosed the arrest of three suspected cult members at Oke-Oyi area on the outskirts of Ilorin.

He said the suspects, who he described as members of Eiye confraternity, were rounded up when they were forcibly initiating some potential members, while items such as an axe, Eiye cult insignia and charms were recovered from them.

Okasami also said that police arrested five suspects in connection with an armed robbery case of which a man at Gaa-Akanbi area of Ilorin and another at Amayo Ganmo area in the Ilorin environs were victims.

Members of Commercial motorcyclists, popularly known as Okada Ridders in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital have staged a peace and quiet protest over suspected extortion by officers of Kwara Road Transport Management Agency(KWARTMA) on daily bases.

The aggrieved motorcyclists, who started their protest from Taiwo road as earlier as 7 am on Thursday went to the Government House to tender their grievances to Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed.While speaking with Journalists, the leader of the commercial motorists, Mr. Adebowale Okunola said ” the reason for our protest is that KWARTMA people are trying to frustrate us. We are not happy riding this bike. It is because of the harsh economic situation. We are just doing it to survive so that we can cater for our needs.

“We plead with the Kwara State Government to kindly assist us plead with these KWARTMA people. They are surely arresting us too much. If the arrest one of our member, the person pays up to N10, 000. That is an excessive amount. How much do we make a day?

“We beg this Kwara State Government to have mercy on us. They should scrap KWARTMA”.

But the Chief Executive Officer of KWARTMA, Mr. Yekeen Babatunde Bello in his reaction said that “the claim by the Okada people that our officials charge them N10,000 is a surprise to me. It also so not true that our personnel demand for N200 bribe from arrested Okada people because anyone caught will be suspended for first offender and dismissal for further indulgence.

“The penalty is there. I have told them to obey traffic rules and regulations. There are regulation there. If you assault anybody of official that arrested you, you will pay extra penalty for the assault. The fines are clearly stated according to the law. [b]Justice Ademola Adeniyi [/b]of the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, Wednesday, disregarded the N600million legal action that was slammed against the Federal Government by the alleged mastermind of the April 14 bomb blast that killed off over 75 persons and also harmed 100 other people at a congested motor park in Nyanya Abuja, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche.

Ogwuche had gone to court to challenge his continued detention in the custody of the Department of State Service, DSS, insisting that his fundamental human right is being violated by the Nigerian government.

Though he initially demanded to be paid N100 million as damages, Ogwuche, through his lawyer Mr. Ahmed Raji, SAN, subsequently amended his application and upgraded the damage sum to N600m.

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode last weekend approved the immediate rehabilitation and provision of welfare assistance to Uche, who had earlier visited the state government Secretariat, Alausa, to narrate her ordeal.Yesterday, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, visited the Uches at their Agege residence, at the weekend to lend support to the cause.

Obasa, on behalf of the state assembly, presented food items, beverages and undisclosed cash to the woman.

The speaker, while rejoicing with the woman for safe delivery of another set of twins, said, “We should continue to thank God.”

Describing children as gifts from God, Obasa urged Uche to always give thanks to God in whatever situation she finds herself.

On Sunday a suicide bomber blew himself up inside a church in the restive northeastern city of Potiskum, killing five worshippers.

“The United States strongly condemns the recent attacks in northeastern Nigeria inflicted by Boko Haram,” State Department spokesman John Kirby said in a statement.

“We will continue to support Nigeria’s efforts to bring those responsible for these attacks, as well as previous attacks, to justice,” he added in offering condolences to the families of the victims.

Boko Haram appear keen to prove they are not a spent force despite a four-nation military offensive running them out of several towns and villages they had controlled.

“As we have said before, the people of northern Nigeria deserve to live free from violence and from terror,” Kirby said.

He noted that Washington is providing counterterrorism aid to help Nigerian authorities fight the terror group.

And Kirby commended the “gains” of Nigeria’s military, as well as forces from Cameroon, Chad and Niger, against Boko Haram.

A coalition of the four countries — all of which border Lake Chad, a focal point of Boko Haram unrest — launched military operations against the jihadists early this year to try claw back some of the territory they had seized.

“The United States stands with the Nigerian people in their struggle against violent extremism,” Kirby said.

“We will continue to work closely with the Nigerian government and our international partners to combat Boko Haram and assist its many victims.”

Sunday Vanguard was reliably informed by Presidency sources, yesterday, that part of the reasons for the seeming prolonged process of resolving the crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC, may be the slightly differing positions of President Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, regarded as a leader and financier of the party.

Specifically, the sources disclosed that the Friday NEC meeting of the party “brought to the open the seeming centrifugal positions of Mr. President and Asiwaju.”

One of the sources added: “At the meeting between the governors and the warring parties that followed the APC NEC parley, Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, was mandated to chair a committee of three that would come up with possible resolutions to the crisis.

BUHARI’S POSITION

“It was an open discussion at the NEC meeting that whereas Mr. President has consistently expressed his dissatisfaction at the truncation of the party’s procedure for the emergence of the leaders of the National Assembly, the position he has since taken has been one of reconciliation and not outright antagonism to the leadership of the National Assembly.”

Sunday Vanguard was told that Tinubu’s position, which had been misconstrued in many quarters as antagonistic, was merely a reflection of the need to enforce party supremacy at all times.

One of the arrowheads of the Tinubu group told Sunday Vanguard: “Asiwaju is not being rigid. He just believes it is not proper to kick off a government on a note of disobedience to party position by members of the National Assembly. It sends a wrong signal”.

WHAT TINUBU WANTED

Investigations into how the Friday meeting of the APC NEC went the way it did suggest that whereas Tinubu gave some conditions, those opposed to him ensured that his position did not hold.

For instance, it was gathered that one of the conditions put forward by the former governor of Lagos State was that both Senate President Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Speaker Yakubu Dogara “should not be invited to the meeting”.

A top APC member privy to the happenings in the ruling party told Sunday Vanguard: “”The second condition he put forward was that in the event that the two leaders of the National Assembly were invited, they should be made to commit to an apology letter to the party.”

That way, it was learnt, it would be on record that both men went against the grain of their political party.

“Unfortunately”, the top party leader said, “none of these could be achieved.

“And you should understand. This is a time when members of the party should engage a cohesive mode rather than one that would alienate more members. It is bad enough that we already have a crisis on our hands. To further entrench positions would not be in the interest of the party.”

BUHARI LOYALISTS TAG WITH ATIKU

Sunday Vanguard was to further learn that already, “there is a groundswell of coalition between some party faithful loyal to President Buhari and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar”.

The source went on: “Mind you”, it is not for the love of Atiku. But it is gradually becoming imperative that whoever within the party that would attempt to ring-fence the President with people that would become malleable should be checked”.

Indeed, it was discovered that when APC’s National Chairman, Chief John Odigie Oyegun, held talks with the President, last week, the fears of the former were assuaged by the latter on the insinuation that he (Oyegun) could lose his position following his acceptance of the emergence of Saraki and Dogara as Senate President and House Speaker.

“In fact, Mr. President told our party Chairman not to lose sleep; that the rumours about his possible removal from office can never happen”.

Sunday Vanguard was told that that was why the party reposed a vote of confidence in its Chairman at the Friday NEC meeting..

ISSUE OF PARTY SUPREMACY

However, one very thorny issue within the embattled APC remains the definition of the leadership as occasioned by the new mantra of supremacy.

It would be recalled that, penultimate week, the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, issued a statement stating that Tinubu was the National Leader of the party; the ink on the paper which carried the statement had not dried before the Presidency issued a counter statement insisting that Buhari remains the leader of the party, without prejudice to whatever contributions made by those who were the founding leaders.

Buhari-TinubuPrivately, some of the leaders of the party, who are obviously not on the same page with Tinubu, like Saraki; former Governors Danjuma Goje,Sani Yerima, Kabiru Gaya; and former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Chairman, Chief Audu Ogbeh; as well as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, are said not to be comfortable with the connotation that presently exists on the term, PARTY SUPREMACY.

Sunday Vanguard was told by a Tinubu loyalist – and correctly so – that the issue of party supremacy, as espoused by the former Lagos governor and Buhari, is good for the growth of the APC.

Verily, in the event that the APC takes a “position, that position should be binding on all”, the Tinubu loyalist insisted.

However, other leaders of the APC are insisting on the need for the party hierarchy to define the concept of party supremacy.

At the Friday APC NEC meeting, the issue could not be discussed because of what a source described as “some sensibilities that were not to be ruffled”.

The growing consensus among party leaders across the three divides – Buhari, Tinubu and Atiku – is the need for the party to quickly determine “who and what constitute party supremacy which would be codified”

The Kano state Government has expressed satisfaction that the rule of law was allowed to take its course in the case of a recent judgment by an Upper Shari’a Court, Rijiyar Lemo, in the state, which passed death sentences on nine persons for blasphemy against the Prophet Mohammed (SAW).The government noted that the judgment is a clear pointer to the fact that whoever breaks the law of the land will not be spared.

It also expressed appreciation to the general public for the patience and the calmness with which they allowed the law to take its course, despite the unwarranted provocation.

In a statement signed by Baba Halilu Dantiye, Director General, Media and Communications to Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, the state government noted that accused persons were convicted under Section 110 and 382B of the Kano Shari’a Crimi­nal Procedure Law (2000).

The statement also appreciated the role played by the Ulama by calming frayed nerves and preaching for understanding during the whole saga and commended the court for the meticulous handling of the case and for disposing it in good time without subjecting it to unnecessary delays.

The statement expressed the hope that the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who feel they can come and cause a breach of the peace, adding that it also justifies government’s resolve to look into the existing law which provides for the regulation of preaching and preachers in the state through the State House of Assembly.

The moribund Cocoa Processing Company in Ede, Osun state has on Thursday received a lifeline with the intervention of two Chinese firms who have promised to resuscitate the comatose Cocoa industry.

This disclosure was made when the Chinese firms paid a courtesy call on the governor of Osun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola at the government house in Osogbo.The companies resuscitation of the Cocoa products company promises creation of many jobs in the state.

‎The two China-based companies -Skyron Corporation and Golden Monkey Group of Company promised that production will commence in the next 6 months.

Mr. David Shi who led the Skyron group stressed that ‎the company has been in the business of Cocoa processing in the last 10 years and that their firm is similar to that of Ede.

He held that the company is sure of turning around the moribund Cocoa processing company in no distant time.

According to him, “Cocoa processing industry is not a new terrain to Skyron having been engaging in similar sector and company in the last ten years.

“Skyron group has a turn over of 6.4billion Dollars in the year 2014 with visible investment in Agriculture and construction sector established across the world including Lagos and other states in Nigeria”.

Also the head of delegation of Golden Monkey Corporation of China, Mr. Liu Jin Hiu assured that aside resuscitation of Cocoa industry, confectionery company will also be established.

Mr. Liu also added that the group is ready to embark on massive production of cassava as raw materials for the confectionery.

He said, “Golden monkey corporation remains the number one producer of candies and chocolate in China, reviving the cocoa processing company in Ede will not be a problem.

“The partnership with the government of Osun in reviving the cocoa project will end up being a win-win partnership project. We have several investment companies in West Africa, especially Cote D’voire with 55 additional branches throughout the world.”

In his remarks, Governor Aregbesola disclosed that the State of Osun is ready to provide an enabling environment for the investors, urging them to consult him whenever they have challenges in pushing ahead the investment.

The governor who also spoke on cassava production and processing held that the state is the largest producer of cassava in the country.

He assured that land and personnel already committed to cassava cultivation and investment are guaranteed, saying government will look forward to a speedy revival of the cocoa processing company in Osun.
