We must really be living in a jet-age because if you might wanna know, even with you just standing on the ATM users queue waiting for your turn (with your ATM card in your hand, someone behind you might just be paying for some bills with your hard earned cash.So don’t be surprised if it gets to your turn and you can’t find any cash in your account again. Yea…that’s how technology has evolved. So might wanna see my top 3 reasons why you should neither give someone you card to withdraw for you nor hold your ATM card in your hand while on the queue. NOTE: there are many but I just culled my top 3, may differ from yours. 1. Online Shopping: Without your ATM card PIN, one can still pay for goods online with your card, all that’s needed is your card’s: »Serial number (the 15 or 16 digits in front if your card) »Expiry date (just below the serial no.) »Security digit (can be found at the back of your card, usually 3 digits ) 2. Clone Cards: Payoneer master card owners always fall victim to clone cards. If anybody get hold of your card, they can easily get all the details of the card and clone it exactly. The cloned cards can then be used to withdraw your money from any part of the world. Payonneer might just not be the only victims but they are very common. 3. Payment of Bills From Scam Jobs or Websites: If you give your card to somebody that is knowledgeable about internet stuff, he can easily use your card details to sign up on websites like domain registrar, website hosting or some tutorial website that involves subscription. These websites will keep on sucking the hell out of your money monthly without your knowledge. To avoid falling victim of any of these 3 and other dangers, don’t give somebody else your ATM card for anything and keep your card in you purse or wallet while on the ATM queue. https://talkgeria.com/3-reasons-why-you-shouldnt-hold-your-atm-card-while-on-queue/#comment-113 |
On Wednesday, rapper DMX (legal name Earl Simmons) was officially sentenced to one year in prison for tax fraud. However, the judge granted him one request, to hear his hit “Slippin’” in court. Based on Billboard, Federal Judge Jed Rakoff played the song at the rapper’s request. DMX pleaded guilty last year to tax-evasion charges. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York, DMX had engaged in a multi-year scheme to avoid paying $1.7 million in taxes. The “scheme” included mostly using cash for all transactions and avoiding using a bank account in his name, even as he toured and sold records. In court, the rapper admitted he had broken the law. “I wasn’t following the rules,” he said. If DMX was charged on every count, he was initially charged with he could have faced up to 40 years behind bars. The prosecutors sought five years, while DMX’s lawyer argued that a lesser sentence would allow the rapper more opportunities to provide for his 15 children and pay off his massive tax bill. https://talkgeria.com/dmx-sentenced-one-year-prison/ Cc: Lalasticlala, mynd44 seun

Why I spoke directly to Nigerian leaders –Bill Gates On Monday, The co-Chair of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Mr. Bill Gates, blamed the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan. Bill Gates, in an interview with the CNN, said that the Federal Government’s investment in education and health was soo good enough. “While it may be easier to be polite, it’s more important to face facts so that you can make progress,” the philanthropist told a room of Nigeria’s government elite that included the President. In a particular television interview with the CNN, Gates said he spoke out to implore Nigerian politicians to focus on human capital and its large youth population. “The current quality and quantity of investment in this young generation in health and education just aren’t good enough. So, I was very direct,” he told CNN. The philanthropist had at a special session of the National Economic Council, on Thursday, said Nigeria would do better with strong investments in health and education, rather than concentrate on physical infrastructure to the detriment of human capital development. He had said, “Nigeria is one of the most dangerous places in the world to give birth, with the fourth-worst maternal mortality rate in the world ahead of only Sierra Leone, Central African Republic and Chad. One in three Nigerian children is chronically malnourished. “In upper-middle-income countries, the average life expectancy is 75 years. In lower-middle-income countries, it’s 68; in low-income countries, it’s 62. In Nigeria, it is lower still, just 53 years. “The Nigerian government’s Economic Recovery and Growth Plan identify investing in the people as one of three strategic objectives. But the execution priorities don’t fully reflect people’s needs, prioritizing physical capital over human capital. People without roads, ports, and factories can’t flourish. And roads, ports, and factories without skilled workers to build and manage them can’t sustain an economy.” But the Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, in an interview with State House correspondents after the NEC meeting, faulted the claim of Gates. He said the plan had enough provisions for education and health, adding that what was needed was for states to complement efforts of the Federal Government. https://talkgeria.com/spoke-directly-nigerian-leaders-bill-gates/ Cc: Lalasticlala, mynd44

The pure water vendor captured by Boko Haram on 19 February, along with 111 schoolgirls. Here is the face of the schoolboy. The boy came to the Dapchi Girls Secondary Science and Tech College to sell pure water when he was kidnapped together with the Dapchi schoolgirls. As 105 of the girls were released on Wednesday, he too got his freedom, said Alhaji Lai Mohammed, minister of information and Culture. “Also kidnapped were two other persons, who are not students of the college. “They include a primary school boy who came to the school to sell pure water and another primary school girl,’’ he said. He said a total of 111 girls were abducted from the Government Girls Secondary and Technical College (GGSTC) in Dapchi on Feb. 19. “That means one student was not captured on the list of 110 abducted students that was compiled by the school, by which the Federal Government gave the number of abducted schoolgirls as 110. “So far, a total of 107 persons, comprising 105 Dapchi schoolgirls and the two non-students have been released by the insurgents. He said that six Dapchi schoolgirls were yet unaccounted for and all efforts will be made to secure their release. (NAN) https://talkgeria.com/dapchi-schoolboy-pure-water-vendor-freed-boko-haram/

Wow! God has been so good! Nigerian man who was diagnosed with brain tumor testifies to the goodness of God. Read below; [b]Hallelujah! I’m a living testimony. I was diagnosed with a brain tumour in October 2016. I went in for a surgery one year later on the 2nd of October 2017 and came out successfully by the grace of God. The surgeon had said they will only be able to take out about 90% of the tumour (because of its location) in a surgery that should last about 4-5 hours with possibility of going paralyzed on the left part of my body if I didn’t recover from the post surgical trama of the area of the brain to be operated on (Right Brain Secondary Motor Area). After 9 hours of surgery, they were able to completely remove the entire tumour. But I went completely paralyzed on the left size of my body with zero bowel movements, a tube to leak urine passed to my bladder, swollen brain with a tube to drain the fluids in my skull and my left jaw was locked. Related: #Graphic Photos: Akwa Ibom Man Hit By #Brain #Cancer, His Brain #Exposed However, to the surprise of the surgeon, doctors and physiotherapists, I gained complete movement of my left side within 2 weeks and relearned proper coordinated movement in a month. . I had suffered from seizures on a daily basis, from late November 2015 and several medical tests unsuccessfully gave wrong diagnosis: from cerebral malaria to ischemic stroke and all-what-not. It was 2 years of devastating ordeal. I even nose-dived into depression at some point and would prefer staying in quiet dark rooms alone. At tipping points, when it became overwhelming, I contemplated suicide and my work life, social life and everything around me was affected but Jesus Christ came through in all of these. I’m healthy and doing well. I’ve come out of it stronger and blessed beyond what words can express. The removed tumour was taken to the lab and tested. It was a type II, which means I won’t require any radiotherapy or chemotherapy. Glory to God! It’s 6 months after surgery and I’ll be 35 years old in a few days time. I’m forever grateful to God and I thank everyone that stood by me during the journey literally through the valley of the shadow of death. I celebrate life. I pray that you receive the miraculous in your biddings as well in Jesus name. Sikiratu Sindodo, the popular yoruba actress and also producer Tayo Odueke, give explanation on reason many think she is a wayward person. During an interview with Sunday Scoop the sindodo opened up on her, career and more other things. Speaking on her education, she said; For my elementary education, I attended Mainland Preparatory Nursery and Primary School in Surulere, Lagos. I then proceeded to the Methodist Girls High School, Yaba, Lagos, for my post-elementary education. I did a two-year diploma course in Theatre Arts at the University of Ibadan. After that, I studied Creative Arts at the University of Lagos but I didn’t graduate. On her career, I cannot recall how many movies I have featured in but the first film I acted in was titled, Hired Assassin. It was an English movie directed by Charles Novia. As of that time, I didn’t even know that I was going to become an actress. A friend of mine had told me to folow her to an audition she had in Surulere and when we got there, I met people like Grace Ama, Ayo Adesanya, JT Tom-West, among others. I acted as a bodyguard to Segun Arinze’s character in the movie. While on that set, Segun Arinze directed me to a woman who was about shooting a Yoruba movie and that was how I really got into the movie industry. How I was named Sikiratu Sindodo; The movie that led to my breakthrough is Sikirat Sindodo. The name, Sikirat Sindodo, has stuck with me ever since and it is always in the news for the bad reasons. People see me as a very wayward girl because of the role I played in the movie. Meanwhile, I am a very calm person. I don’t go out when it is not necessary and I mind my business. However, I never regret playing such movie because I was just doing my job. https://talkgeria.com/why-many-people-think-i-am-wayward-actress-tayo-odueke/ OAM4J, Lalasticlala Mynd44 Dominique Seun

Daily Trust reporter released but newspaper demands apology from police Musa Krishi, Daily Trust newspaper reporter who was arrested by the Nigerian police force on Tuesday, has been discharged. Krishi was later released shortly after he was picked up at the national assembly by police officers from zone 1 command in Kano. He was purportedly arrested on the orders of Muhammad Badaru, governor of Jigawa state, over an advertorial issued in the newspaper. Meanwhile, the newspaper demanded an “unreserved apology” from the police over the incident. In a statement sent to TheCable, the newspaper’s management described the incident as “not just an act of intimidation on Daily Trust journalists and newspaper, but an unwarranted assault on journalism and the media profession.” It added that the advertorial in question had no criminal content and was “not in any way libelous against the governor of Jigawa state or any other political personality contained therein.” The newspaper also called on President Muhammadu Buhari and Ibrahim Idris, inspector-general of police, to call the police in Kano to order. Below is the full statement signed by Mannir Dan-Ali, editor-in-chief of the newspaper. DAILY TRUST REPORTER ABDUCTED AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY At about 11.30am on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, our reporter attached to the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, was abducted by policemen who claimed to have come from Zone One Command Police Headquarters in Kano. He was hauled into a Hilux Van with Registration Number ABJ RSH 850 AH from the Divisional Police Office at the National Assembly by a team of six plain cloth policemen who claimed to be taking him to Kano for interrogation. Though the full ramifications of the investigation they claimed to be carrying out has not been made known to the management of Daily Trust, the abduction of Krishi is the height of intimidation visited upon this company since January 26, 2018 following the publication of a paid advertisement which the governor of Jigawa State had taken exception to. Below is a sequence of intimidation Daily Trust has been subjected to over the last one and a half months. On January 26, 2018, Daily Trust published a paid advertisement placed by the Coalition of Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar Support Groups. The advertorial consisted of photographs showing Jigawa State Governor Badaru with former President Olusegun Obasanjo. On the same day lawyers of Governor Badaru wrote to disown the contents of the advertorial and sought an immediate retraction. On January 28, 2018, Daily Trust published the Jigawa State Government’s press release disowning the advertorial. On February 5, 2018, Daily Trust published an apology/retraction of the advertisement as demanded by the governor’s lawyers. In February, Daily Trust received from the Police in Kano a letter claiming that they had commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the publication of the advertorial. Attached to the letter was a summon from a Chief Magistrate Court in Kano, which did not contain the names of parties to the suit, and even a suit number. We provided all the information requested for by the Police in Kano to enable them conduct their investigations. But not satisfied, the police summoned the management team of Daily Trust to Kano for further investigation. As this civil case took a frightening twist and turn, Daily Trust wrote an official petition to the Inspector General of Police dated February 15, 2018, seeking his intervention. The IGP subsequently set up a team of investigators in Abuja to work on this case. It was, therefore, a shock to the management of Daily Trust that the Police in Kano upstaged the IGP’s investigation by coming to Abuja to abduct one of our reporters. We believe the police in Kano can only do this because of undue pressures from Jigawa State Government. We consider this to be, not just an act of intimidation on Daily Trust journalists and newspaper, but an unwarranted assault on Journalism and the media profession. The advertorial in question had no criminal content; it was not in any way libellous against the governor of Jigawa State or any other political personality contained therein. If anything, this is a civil-cum-political issue, and, as a newspaper, we have bent over backwards by carrying out the necessary retraction and publishing the disclaimers by the government of Jigawa State. The abduction of our journalist was unwarranted and an abuse on the rights of our reporter. This is clearly another mischievous effort to obstruct Daily Trust from performing of its constitutionally-supported role of making its platform available to all Nigerians who wish to air their views about the country’s democracy. We, therefore, demand an unreserved apology from the Kano State Command of the Nigeria Police. We appeal to the Inspector-General of Police and President Muhammadu Buhari to call the Police in Kano to order and instruct them to return our reporter to his duty post at the National Assembly. https://talkgeria.com/daily-trust-reporter-released-newspaper-demands-apology-police/ Lalasticlala, Mynd44, seun
