Gestational diabetes is a disorder in which women that previously did not carry diabetes test positive for high blood glucose levels during their pregnancy. Though not uncommon, it is thought that anywhere between three and ten percent of pregnant women are diagnosed with gestational diabetes sometime during their pregnancy. But just what does this diagnosis mean to the health and welfare of the mother and her unborn child? Since no specific cause has been identified for gestational diabetes, scientists don’t know how to prevent it. The closest they have come to understanding is that it is believed that hormones produced during pregnancy reduce a woman’s sensitivity to insulin and the result is high blood sugar levels. Every pregnant woman is tested for gestational diabetes during her prenatal care visits because generally there are very few symptoms. If the mother has gestational diabetes, babies are at a higher risk for complications. These are typically growth abnormalities and low blood sugar. The good thing is that gestational diabetes is completely reversible and women who otherwise have good control over their glucose levels can decrease the risk of these birth problems. In fact, women who can keep their gestational diabetes under complete control are known to give birth to perfectly healthy babies. The down side is women who develop gestational diabetes during their pregnancy now run a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes post-pregnancy. Some children are prone to develop childhood obesity and develop type 2 diabetes later in life. Pregnant women who develop gestational diabetes are generally treated with diet plan and exercise, but in some extreme cases they are administered an anti-diabetic drug, such as insulin. The goal of treatment is to reduce the risks for both mother and child without endangering either. https://talkgeria.com/prevent-gestational-diabetes/ Lalasticlala, mynd44, seun, dominique, Sissy3

There is some question on where and when a good time to use your cell phone is and when it’s not appropriate. Here are some things to remember as suggested by business and etiquette professionals. 1. Never take a personal mobile call during a business meeting. This includes interviews and meetings with co-workers or subordinates. 2. Maintain at least a 10-foot zone from anyone while talking. 3. Never talk in elevators, libraries, museums, restaurants, cemeteries, theaters, dentist or doctor waiting rooms, places of worship, auditoriums or other enclosed public spaces, such as hospital emergency rooms or buses. And don’t have any emotional conversations in public – ever. People don’t need to know your business and they don’t care to know if you are having an argument with your boyfriend. 4. Don’t use loud and annoying ring tones that destroy concentration and eardrums. 5. Never “multi-task” by making calls while shopping, banking, and waiting in line on conducting other personal business. 6. Keep all cellular congress brief and to the point. 7. Use an earpiece in high-traffic or noisy locations. That lets you hear the amplification, or how loud you sound at the other end, so you can modulate your voice. 8. Tell callers when you’re talking on a mobile, so they can anticipate distractions or disconnections. 9. Demand “quiet zones” and “phone-free areas” at work and in public venues, like the quiet cars on the Amtrak Metroliner. 10. Inform everyone in your mobile address book that you’ve just adopted the new rules for mobile manners. Ask them to do likewise. Remembering to be courteous of those around you when you are on the phone is a good place to start. When talking on the phone in public leave your personal information out of the conversation and keep your conversations for necessity purposes only. https://talkgeria.com/cell-phone-etiquette-tips-everyone-needs-know/

The world is facing a lot of problems including that of environmental concerns like pollution and global warming. Despite these problems, people should not despair. In every problem, there is always a solution and this solution has been available for many years now. It’s just that many people fail to realize its importance and efficacy. Researchers and scientists have already discovered solar power many years ago but because of the lack of technological knowledge, the idea was not pursued. Solar power was mainly used for powering small electrical devices. But now, with the great technological advancements, people are hoping that solar power will soon become widely accessible even to ordinary individuals. In the US, solar power is used in the different states but it it’s not that prevalent. Huge solar panels are quite expensive and ordinary people can’t afford to pay for them. You can now find solar power kits which are less costly and the price range from $200 to $500. Before you consider using solar power, here are some facts that you need to be aware of: 1. Albert Einstein received a Nobel Prize in 1921 for his experiments on photovoltaic and solar power. 2. Silicon from a ton of sand can be used in photovoltaic panels to generate the same amount of electricity that a 500,000 T of burning coals can produce. 3. 10,000 US households are now using solar energy to power their homes. 4. John Herschel (British Astronomer) was able to cook food by using solar power 200 years ago during his African journey. 5. In 1982, the first large scale power plants was opened in California. 6. If you can use solar power in your home’s heating system, you can slash the electric bill by 50%. 7. In the last thirty years, the price of solar panels has dropped considerably by at least 200%. Solar power kits can now be purchased from $200-$500. 8. In the year 2000, USDOE claimed that solar power is almost perfect (99%) in San Francisco; since California gets a lot of sunlight, 200 megawatts of green electricity can be generated if all the rooftops of county buildings and homes are covered with PV panels. By including school buildings, an added 1,500 megawatts is achievable. The generated power is enough to cover the city’s electrical needs during an entire day. 9. Germany is now using solar power despite its undesirable climate. The energy generated during sunny days is stored in batteries. 10. Energy from the sun travels for approximately 8 minutes to reach Earth. If you’re interested in solar power and you want to try it out, you can start with a solar power kit. It is affordable and easy to assemble. The materials can be purchased from local hardware stores and the guides are easy to understand as well. Make sure that you purchase a kit that is manufactured by a prominent and trusted company to ensure efficiency. Some manufacturers also provide warranty for 10-15 years; take advantage of these great deals. The facts mentioned earlier will help you to decide whether you can benefit from solar power or not. If you live in an area where there is lots of sunlight all throughout the year, solar power is an excellent choice. Solar power is free and clean. After your initial investment, you no longer have to pay for the energy. https://talkgeria.com/10-facts-probably-didnt-know-solar-energy/ Lalasticlala, mynd44, seun

The family of Eche Israel, an electronic dealer at the Alaba International Market, Ojo, have become apprehensive after he was allegedly shot by some operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the Mile 2 area of Lagos State. PUNCH Metro gathered that the 30-year-old trader had finished from work around 6pm on Friday and was heading home on a motorcycle when he was stopped by the officers. During an exchange that allegedly ensued, the victim was said to have queried the officers for stopping him and asked the motorcycle rider to move on. He was subsequently shot in the waist. The officers were alleged to have shot continuously into the air to scare away residents, who had thronged the scene. He was allegedly put in the boot of the car the SARS men brought and driven away. A cousin of the victim, Mary Israel, said a family friend, who witnessed the shooting, called the attention of the family to the incident. She said they had been to different police stations in the state, including the SARS office at Ikeja, adding that Eche’s whereabouts had remained unknown. She said, “He deals in electronics in Alaba market. He had finished the day’s work and was going to his house at Ajegunle around 6pm on Friday when the officers asked him to stop. They parked a red vehicle beside the road. “They found a Samsung phone on him and some money. The man questioning him was not in uniform, so he argued with him and asked why he was being questioned. The policeman held him by the trousers when he asked his motorcycle rider to move on. “They shot him in the waist. The motorcycle rider fled. He was thrown into the boot of the vehicle and the policemen drove off. “They didn’t find anything incriminating on him. He is not a robber or a thief. He has his business and a family. He is a responsible man.” Another family member, Blessing Israel, said the policemen were identified with their police-crested AK-47 guns, adding that one of the men also flashed his ID card at residents when they tried to mob them. “We have been to SARS Ikeja, Mile 2 Police Station and the Federal SARS at Alagbon. We just returned from the Adeniji Adele Police Station. They all said there was no suspect named Eche Israel with waist injury in their cells. Where else can we go? There has been no word about him since last Friday,” she added. The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chike Oti, said he would get back to our correspondent, but had yet to do so as of press time. https://informationengine./2017/12/15/sars-officers-shoot-whisk-away-lagos-trader/ Lalasticlala, mynd44, seun

It is quite possible that the Minister for Transportation,Rotimi Amaechi is losing his marbles otherwise why else would he be asking former President Jonathan to account for the $65 billion that former Olusegun Obasanjo left in the Excess Crude Account when there was never any such amount? Former President Olusegun Obasanjo and the former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria who served under his tenure, Professor Charles Soludo are both alive and journalists can take advantage of the Freedom of Information Act signed into Law by former Jonathan to verify from them if there was ever any $65 billion in the Excess Crude Account. Rotimi Amaechi is a notorious ignoramus who speaks without thinking and it is suspected that either he is speaking under the influence of drugs or he is going senile. The reason I say so is because Rotimi Amaechi as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum is precisely the reason why the Excess Crude Account had to be phased out and below are the facts: The Jonathan administration met $6.5 billion in the Excess Crude Account upon inception in 2010 and not $65 Billion as wrongly asserted by Rotimi Amaechi. In fact, the Jonathan Government ought to be praised for increasing the amount in the ECA to almost $9 billion by 2012. However, the Nigerian Governors Forum led by no other person than Rotimi Amaechi, using their influence at the House of Representatives, had gotten that August body to declare the Excess Crude Account illegal in 2012. So excruciating was the pressure from the Nigerian Governors Forum and most notably from the then Rivers state Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, (now the minister of transport) for the Jonathan administration to end the Excess Crude Account and the Sovereign Wealth Fund regimes and instead share the funds in those accounts amongst the three tiers of government that they approached the Supreme Court, to challenge the legality of the Excess Crude Account and then President Jonathan’s decision to transfer $1 billion from that account to the Sovereign Wealth Fund. In fact after hosting a meeting of the forum on September 21, 2012, at the Rivers state Governor’s lodge, Rotimi Amaechi said inter alia: “On the Excess Crude Account, Forum unanimously decided to head back to Court to enforce the Federal Government’s adherence to the constitution.” To those who do not know what the Constitution says, let me give you an insight by quoting from Section 162. Section 162, provides that “(1) The Federation shall maintain a special account to be called ‘the Federation Account’ into which shall be paid all revenues collected by the Government of the Federation, except the proceeds from the personal income tax of the personnel of the Armed Forces of the Federation, the Nigeria Police Force, the Ministry or department of government charged with responsibility for Foreign Affairs and the residents of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. “(2) The President, upon the receipt of advice from the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission, shall table before the National Assembly proposals for revenue allocation from the Federation Account, and in determining the formula, the National Assembly shall take into account, the allocation principles especially those of population, equality of States, internal revenue generation, land mass, terrain as well as population density; “(3) Any amount standing to the credit of the Federation Account shall be distributed among the Federal and State Governments and the Local Government Councils in each State on such terms and in such manner as may be prescribed by the National Assembly.” From the above it was clear what the Amaechi led Governor’s forum wanted. Mr. Amaechi led the governors in taking the Federal Government to court. The Jonathan administration offered an out of court settlement with the governors in a deal that would have seen the federal government sharing some of the money and saving up the rest for Nigeria’s future but the governors rejected the offer. In fact, the Jonathan Administration had argued at the Supreme Court that sharing the money in the ECA would affect “the day to day running of the nation’s economy”. Working in tandem with Mr. Amaechi and his supporters in the Nigerian Governors Forum, the then minority APC members of the House of Representatives approached a Federal High Court on the 7th of February, 2014, for a perpetual injunction restraining the Jonathan administration from operating the ECA and to pay all the proceeds of that account into the Federation Account for sharing amongst the three tiers of government. As a result of these actions, the Jonathan administration paid the 36 states of the federation a total of N2.92 trillion from the Excess Crude Account between 2011 and 2014. Using the value of the Naira at that time that amount was just above $20 billion dollars. So it is quite clear that anyone who accuses the Jonathan administration squandering $65 Billion ECA funds is speaking in ignorance. What I would advise Rotimi Amaechi to do is to take his own advise from last week when he said “I agree with those who said we should stop criticizing the last government and that we should do our own” It is very wrong for Rotimi Amaechi to keep blaming the Jonathan administration while at the same time enjoying the fruits of its labour like the Abuja-Kaduna railway and the national railway that was revived by the Jonathan government after years of being moribund. If they are drinking from Jonathan’s well, let them appreciate the man who dug the well. https://informationengine./2017/12/14/rotimi-amaechi-is-an-ignoramus-reno-omokri/ Lalasticlala, mynd44, seun

Before you can be a Bodybuilders you’ve got to spend a lot of years on perfecting your body through proper training and nutrition. In other hand, i know you might not have an interest in the sport of bodybuilding, but do want to know the secrets to six-pack abs, a wide back, and rounded shoulders. And what better place to score the tricks of the trade than from 3-time Mr. Olympia Phil Heath. Here is a bodybuilding workout plan. PHASE 1: STRENGTH (bodybuilding exercises) 3 work sets per exercise 5-7 reps 4-6 weeks* *Optional: increase weight at 3-4 weeks PHASE 2: CARDIOVASCULAR CONDITIONING 3 work sets per exercise 12-15 reps 4 weeks PHASE 3: GROWTH 3-4 work sets per exercise 8-12 reps 4 weeks 2. APPLY CONSTANT TENSION TO WEIGHTS There are several ways to enhance the quality of a workout, and some changes can even be made during each rep. “Constant tension should be applied to the last five reps of every working set, meaning, do the first 5-6 reps normal tempo, and the last few reps should be held for at least two seconds at the peak of the contraction,” says Heath. “This allows your muscles to have more time under tension and you work different muscle fibers.” Hold the weight at the top for a maximum pump. 3. DO CARDIO YEAR-ROUND (bodybuilding exercises) Bodybuilders do cardio training such as running and using a StairMaster StepMill to burn fat and make their muscles more visible. “Do cardio throughout the year at least three days a week for at least 30-40 minutes, whether it be first thing in the morning on an empty stomach or after a post-workout protein shake,” says Heath. “Cardio won’t kill your gains as much as you think, you’ll see how much muscle you really have.” Break a sweat to stay lean ’round the clock. 4. DROPSETS ARE KEY Heath suggests incorporating dropsets into your training routine by immediately decreasing the weight and repping out again to failure. “Dropsets overload the muscle with shorter rest periods and increasing volume which you need to grow,” says Heath. “That overload improves your body’s abilities to utilize more nutrients, natural growth hormone, and natural testosterone into those areas and makes the supplements you take more effective.” Heath’s favorite way to do dropsets is on a pin-loaded machine since it’s faster to switch weights. 5. ORGANIZE YOUR DIET When it comes to finding the right meal plan, you have to start somewhere. Start with writing down what you eat in a food diary, calculate the calories you’re consuming daily (ex: 3,000 without protein shakes), and break those up into six meals (ex: 500 calories each), says Heath. Then, choose a macronutrient ratio. For example, the 40% protein, 40% carbs, 20% fat ratio is what Heath used to get bigger when he first started bodybuilding. “Buy a food scale, learn how to use it, and you may even have to learn to use the metric system, like grams instead of ounces,” Heath says. “You need to train your body to process food quickly, so eat every three hours.” 6. PROTEIN POWER Heath says to consume 1.25-2 grams of protein per pound of body weight for growth and he never exceeds a 1:1 meals to protein shake ratio, meaning if he has 3 shakes, he’ll have 3 meals. He suggests if you’re going to drink protein shakes, drink two and have four meals. Also, increase your protein consumption and decrease carbs to look lean. “Once I got to a certain size, I wanted to get leaner so I got to 50% protein, 30% carbs and 20% protein.” 7. TAKE PROGRESS PHOTOS (bodybuilding photos) The best way to know the real progress you’re making is by recording it on video or taking photos. “Photos mean everything because if you can take them in the same areas and in the same poses, you’ll see your strengths and weaknesses clearly,” says Heath. “Revise your training and diet programs to eliminate weaknesses.” Keep a file of your progress to see just how far you can take your fitness. http://hereinnigeria.com/2017/12/13/important-things-anybody-can-learn-from-a-bodybuilder/

The National Judicial Council, NJC, stated yesterday that it had at the end of its 84th Meeting in Abuja, recommended Justices Adeniyi Ademola and O. O. Tokode for retirement from the Federal High Court Bench. But Chief Robert Clarke, SAN, a counsel to Justice A. Ademola reacting stated that the Judge retired voluntarily, immediately he was freed by the court of any infractions over the allegations levied against him by the government. A Federal High Court, FHC, in Abuja had cleared Justice Adeniyi Ademola and his wife, Olabowale, of charges of corruption brought against them by the Attorney General of the Federation. Chief Clarke in a telephone interview with Vanguard correspondent noted that, “Justice Ademola who was approaching the voluntary retirement age, resigned moment he was absolved of any wrong doings by the court. Though I am not aware of any compulsory retirement as you mentioned now, but all what I know was that he was absolved by the court of any wrong doings. As it is, he is not found guilty of any offence(s), so I would not know of any compulsory retirement owing to wrong doings. “He retired voluntarily, which I believed he reserved the right to do so. And I am not aware of any appeal against the judgment of the Federal High Court, this is because I am not aware that they compile any record of the court proceedings fortheir appeal. Thank you.” The Council which is headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, said it found the two Judges guilty of engaging in acts of judicial misconduct. Justice Ademola who was among eight superior court judges that were arrested after a “sting operation” the Department of State Service, DSS, conducted in October last year, had attempted to outsmart the NJC by voluntarily resigning from the bench late Wednesday night. He swiftly leaked his resignation letter dated December 6 to the press around 12 midnight on Wednesday. However, the NJC, in a statement that was signed by its Director of Information, Mr. Soji Oye, maintained that Justice Ademola’s action was belated. The legal body said it had already written to President Muhammadu Buhari, recommending that the Judge must immediately proceed on compulsory retirement eventhough he would actually be officially due for retirement on April 8, 2018, when he would have clocked the 65 years mandatory retirement age. However, NJC acknowledged that Justice Ademola had previously on October 10, forwarded to it, his notice of retirement against next year. The Council said its decision to compulsorily remove Ademola from the bench was pursuant to findings on allegation contained in a petition that was written against him by a group of 8 persons under the name of Committee of Anambra State PDP House of Representatives Members-Elect. https://informationengine./2017/12/08/i-retired-voluntarily-justice-ademola/ lala, seun

Union Bank of Nigeria Plc has declared ownership of Flat 7B in Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, where large sums of money were found. The money, which was found in the flat, and were forfeited to the Federal Government on June 6, are $43,449,947 (about N13billion), N23, 218,000 and £27,800 (about N10.6milion). In its pending application, the bank is praying the Federal High Court in Lagos to vacate an interim order forfeiting the flat to the Federal Government. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had accused former National Intelligence Agency (NIA) Director-General Ayodele Oke of fraudulently converting the agency’s funds. It alleged that Oke’s wife, Folasade, used part of the funds to buy the flat. The court, on November 9, ordered the flat’s temporary forfeiture to the Federal Government. Justice Saliu Saidu ruled that it would be permanently forfeited if no one turned up to justify its ownership within 14 days. Yesterday, Union Bank’s lawyer Chief Ajibola Aribisala (SAN) said he filed an application seeking to vacate the interim forfeiture order. In a supporting affidavit, the bank said the flat was part of 16, Osborne Road, Ikoyi, belonging to Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Muazu. It said the property was covered by a certificate of occupancy dated September 27, 2009 and registered as 97/97/2009 in the Lands Registry Office, Alausa. According to the bank, Muazu mortgaged the property to it by virtue of a Tripartite Deed of Legal Mortgage dated November 1, 2011. Union Bank said the property was a security for a loan granted to Tripple A Properties & Investment Ltd. The bank claimed that the property’s original titled deed had been vested in it (the bank). Besides, it said the loan was yet to be liquidated despite its tenor expiring. The bank claimed that it sold the property to Chobe Ventures Ltd to liquidate the loan. EFCC, in its counter affidavit, argued that the bank lacked the locus standi to challenge the forfeiture. While arguing the application for the flat’s forfeiture, EFCC’s lawyer said Mrs Oke made cash payment of $1,658,000 in tranches of $700,000, $650,000 and $353,700, for the flat’s purchase between August 25 and September 3, 2015. In a supporting affidavit deposed to by an investigating officer, Mr Musa Giwa, the agency said Mrs Oke gave the cash to a bureau de change operator, Alhaji Shehu Usman Anka, to pay for the flat. “The funds used to acquire the property sought to be forfeited in the name of Chobe Ventures belong to the Federal Government of Nigeria but was fraudulently converted to the use of Chobe Ventures. It is in the interest of justice to grant this application,” the EFCC said EFCC said when it recovered the huge cash from the flat on April 12, it also recovered several documents indicating that the flat belonged to Chobe Ventures, including invoices and cash receipts issued to the company. It claimed to have written the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) for the particulars of Chobe Ventures’ directors, following which the CAC affirmed that the directors of Chobe Ventures were Mrs Folade Oke and Mr Ayodele Oke Jr. Justice Saidu adjourned till January 12 for the hearing of Union Bank’s application as an interested party. https://informationengine./2017/12/01/ikoyi-cash-haul-bank-claims-ownership-of-flat-7b/ Lalasticlala, mynd44, seun

Charles Manson, the fiery-eyed cult master whose lemming-like followers staged a bloody two-night murder rampage in Los Angeles in 1969 that gripped the city with fear and shocked the nation, died on Nov. 19 at a hospital in Kern County, Calif. He was 83 year old and had been suffering from gastrointestinal problems for some time. Manson was found guilty of seven counts of 1st degree murder and one of conspiracy after his so-called Manson Family killed at his behest in 1969, including pregnant actress Sharon Tate, wife of controversial director Roman Polanski. Sharon’s sister Debra Tate was among those notified of the killer’s death, telling NBC News she received the call around 8:30 p.m. A spokeswoman for the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed Manson died at 8:13. Manson was sentenced to death but narrowly escaped when the death penalty was banned in California in 1972. The infamous inmate kept his notoriety through the years through TV interviews and made the news again in 2014 when he got engaged to a young fan. The Tate-LaBianca murders captured the interest of the nation; multiple films have been made about or inspired by Manson and his followers, with another high-profile one on the way. You won’t find many people mourning the death of the murderer, but fascination with his crimes is likely to live on. https://informationengine./2017/11/20/charles-manson-cult-leader-and-serial-killer-who-terrified-nation-dies-at-83/

The better by far school,University of Ilorin has appeals for understanding and calm over the delay in the release of its 2017/2018 undergraduate admission list. The school says the delay is only been caused by some technical difficulties they encountered in making use of the Central Admission Processing system. The management of the University of Ilorin, have appealed to all applicants seeking admission into the University to be a little bit patience as the 2017/2018 admission list into the school will soon be out. The chairman of the University of Ilorin Admissions Committee, Prof. O. T. Mustapha, gave assurances that the school authorities are working round the clock the ensure the release of the list as soon as possible. Prof. Mustapha made the appeal last on Wednesday in an interview with Unilorin Bulletin. He described that the school is aware of the anxiety caused by the delay in concluding the admission exercise. He further disclosed that the University of Ilorin has met the requirements set by JAMB,including deadline for submission of admissible students, but the newly introduced Central Admission Processing System (CAPS) by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which is been used for the first time, is making the process a little cumbersome. Prof. Mustapha said, “As far as the University admission is concerned, at the University level, we are already through with the short-listing. But the new system introduced by JAMB requires that when you are through with admissions, instead of going to Abuja to mark the admitted candidates manually, you have to do it electronically.” “But this time around, we tried as much as possible to do that, but we have encountered some challenges with internet services, particularly when we tried to upload the list of our admitted candidates, which is very bulky”. He then appealed to the candidates, saying, “They will have to be calm. Nobody is trying to jeopardize the process. It is just a small problem and I don’t think that it is insurmountable. We will definitely overcome it. We are just worried about its effects on the academic calendar. So, we are working round the clock to correct this.” “We are concerned. We are trying our best. We have not been folding our arms. In fact, we are thinking of moving to another location where the strength of the internet facility would be enhanced.” “This is the first time we are using this electronic method. In the past, all you have to do after completing your admission exercise was to go down to Abuja and mark your candidates manually.” “Now, we went to Abuja and JAMB refused to let us mark manually. They wanted it done electronically. So, we had to come back and that was when we started loading the post-UTME scores and so on.” “Once we have enhanced internet facilities, and if probably, JAMB can strengthen its own bandwidth, I think the problem will stop.” https://informationengine./2017/11/19/unilorin-explains-delay-in-the-release-of-its-2017-2018-admission-list/ Lalasticlala mynd44 |
In Umueze community, in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on Wednesday, after the traditional ruler of the community, Eze Opara, allegedly killed a 25-year-old graduate, Uchenna Opara, aka Junior. A Punch correspondent, who pay a visit to the community in the early hours of Thursday, was told by residents that the incident occurred on around 6.15pm at the community’s primary school playground. Scores of youths were seen setting the palace ablaze, including destroying the suspect’s Nissan car. An oil mill belonging to the monarch, which was a stone’s throw from the palace, was not spared, as the enraged youths set it ablaze as well. The youth leader of the community, Bethel Iwuoha, told PUNCH Metro that while one of the security guards of the monarch, Atuonye Opara, allegedly cocked the pump-action rifle, Eze allegedly pulled the trigger. Iwuoha said immediately the bullet hit Junior, a 2017 graduate of Library and Information Science of the Imo State University, Owerri, on the chest, the monarch and his security aide hurriedly entered into a car and fled from the scene. He said Junior was rushed to a police clinic at Amakaohia, where he was confirmed dead. The youth leader accused Eze of always using his security guards to intimidate indigenes of the community. According to Iwuoha, trouble started when the youths, who made use of the playground for their football training, protested that the son of the monarch, Temple Opara, could not take over the field with a football team he brought from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, without informing the youths who had been cleaning the pitch for a long time. He said the prince then gave the youths N10,000, which infuriated the monarch who demanded that the money be handed over to him (Eze). “While we were training on Wednesday evening, the traditional ruler, who was returning in his car with Atuonye, reversed and headed for the pitch. They both alighted from the car and started shouting at us. “The monarch said we were challenging his authority in the community. While he was shouting, his security guard went into the car and brought out the pump-action rifle. “The monarch took the gun and wanted to shoot us, but his personal assistant attempted stopping him. It was in the course of struggling with his PA that a bullet went out and hit Junior on the chest. The traditional ruler, out of fear of attack from the youths, abandoned the gun and fled,” the youth leader said. At the family compound of the slain graduate, his father, Franklin Opara, a retired customs officer, said it was the monarch that killed his son. “Junior was supposed to proceed on his National Youth Service Corps programme in March 2017, when he was killed. I was with him a few hours before he went to the field. He was not just my first son, but my first child. I call on the government to give me justice. My son cannot die in vain,” he added. The state Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, in a telephone conversion, told our correspondent that Eze was in police custody, adding that the gun had also been recovered. He said, “We have moved in to restore normalcy. We are in touch with the community leaders, including the Deputy Governor of the state, Eze Madumere. “As I speak with you, the Owerri area command has moved in with operatives to ensure there is no more breakdown of law and order in the community. It was the murder that precipitated the arson. It is a case of murder and investigation is ongoing.” https://informationengine./2017/11/17/police-arrest-imo-monarch-for-allegedly-killing-imsu-graduate/

The Jos Zonal Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has just embarked on a child Safety campaign in primary schools in Plateau. Flagging-off the campaign at the St. Luke Primary School on Monday in Jos, the Zonal Commanding Officer, Mr Jonas Agwu, said the initiative was “timely”. Based to Agwu, the rationale behind the campaign was to stem the spate at which underaged children die from road accidents. “If you take a copious check, you will see that children below the ages of twelve are not being transported properly by motorists. “What I have noticed in my five months stay on the Plateau is that drivers and car owners are careless about the safety of the children while plying roads; they have very poor attitude to the safety of the child. “So, it is based on this that we decided to take the safety campaign to the children directly, so they will know their rights on one hand, and can correct adults when they do the wrong thing on the other hand. “If we say and believe that the kids are the leaders of tomorrow, then we have to do the right thing in safeguarding their future,” he said. The Zonal Commanding Officer appealed to motorists to acquire baby seats for their cars as well as ensure its usage when necessary, for safety of children. Agwu also warned against allowing children to use the front passenger’s seat, as such acts could be risky to the safety of the children. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the campaign was organised in conjunction with Rotary Club of Jos, Sherehills and the Nija Pikin Iniative Development.
