@ yawa This site will involve a lot of database interaction because things change a lot in this country. @ all Regarding the back-end coding, i personally have the following database tables :- states, country, news, faq, local govt from some of my former projects and i can simply add more. Now, i think we (back-end coders) should nominate a team lead, so that we dont duplicate tasks. Lets have a database schema with say 50 tables, yes 50 tables and we call work on like 5 tables each. These 5 tables can be relational. Eg state, country, local govt are all relational. I know we understand these points. |
@dual and ihostafric U don't need to start a tug here. Regarding coldfusion hosting, I still stand by d fact dat nigerian host companies need to create room for other technologies |
" Just remember, uneasy lies the head that wears the crown " Spot on |
You are on d right path and don't let ur short-coming affect ur psyche. I know many competent ict professionals having similar challenges, but they command a lot of respect today. Ditto those that did not attend higher institutions, but aptech, niit etc. Believe in ur self and strive to be better than the best, in order to prove people that look down on u wrong. Best |
Lol |
good work folks |

@ Fayimora I get your point. First things first before any of us should get our hands dirty with code , i think we should discuss about the features we want to put on the site. Been tempted to spy on other countries sites (eg US, UK, INDIA , JAPAN) but i wont for now. Lets think of what we can portray about our country, things to pull both nigerians and non-nigerians frequently to this site. Madam Yawa has a very good idea, but i swear she'd be surprised at the landing point this project would get to. That is, we have to consider show-casing our cultural heritage, our pre-colonial history, wars, oil and gas industry, tourism and not 4getting our grossly untapped ICT sector. We' ll even need to involve non-developers to this. Seun has to put this on the homepage o. So, before coding, lets put things down on paper first, lets look at how we can complement our skills and weaknesses to get best results. I know dhtml and dual-core are wonderful programmers (others too o!), but they'll always have different approaches to challenges that comes their way. Frameworks? MVC? OOP? Procedural? @ Yawa & Omni-Potens Pls also be prepared to settle egoism. The "NA ME SABI PASS YOU SYNDROME" ![]() |
@yawatide how do we share code base? how do we access updates on everyone's work? In other words, the demo url need not be the live one (though i have this feeling it might be ), so let's know if there are other options. |
First things first, lets register a domain name, one that could easily be remembered. we should research on available domains and then settle for one. Suprisingly, 1. http://www.nigeria.com/ 2. http://www.nigeria.com.ng/ 3. http://www.thenigerian.com/ |
Some of the advantages i perceive are businesses will venture into online transactions on the web, for example shopping sites like ebay, amazon and the likes will crop up. Dealfish , nairalist and others would take advantage of this policy by possibly integrating payment processing on their sites. Here, the real web developers and security guys will be separated from the joomla guys out there! |
For discussion on cbn's cashless policy, view this thread https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-755734.0.html |
shame on the web-vultures patiently waiting to feast on the unripe apple of a 16yr old child! abgayas ;d |
What do u do when u wake up in d morning not knowing where ur next meal comes from? "Self-Employed" and no daddy or mummy to help you out? Some of us are lucky to turn down a 30k site, but so many of us will lose an arm to get a 20k job. Look, am not taking sides but its da naija syndrome, JUST SURVIVE kinda attitude. Its in all spheres of the freaking economy. Ask charge and bail lawyers, or even graduates that are taxi drivers. I can go on and on, but i personally will never celebrate mediocrity. I always tell those who care to listen that i focus on international best practices and not the naija kinda person. |
yawa-ti-de:Site was developed by www.inetworkscanada.com , am in, Database modelling, back-end or front-end coding. |
funny enough i know this person in question, he doesnt really have a solid base. for real, since then (about 2months now) he hasnt found one. ![]() |
With the recent call by the CBN governor on making Nigeria a cashless economy, i and a group of observers talked about the benefits it may have. I decided to extend the discussion by bringing it here for mind-rubbing. Now, many switching companies are preparing for a bumper harvest soon, and so i pondered on what web developers will stand to gain. Pls dont come stating blanket statements, give reasons on your points of benefit. |

i dont understand why some of you criticize this guy for not coding his site from scratch. After all, every coder has done that at a point in time. Well OP, its a challenge you learn the fundamentals of web development as some peeps have suggested. For the site, the design is good though i still see a horizontal scrolling bar despite using a 1366 * 700 screen resolution. The body with is about 950px so i think its got to do with ur background image. For the div around the ontoplist.com, align it further left cos its looking shaggy. |
