Omoge, you're on the defensive! just to puncture your balloon further, Obasanjo officially started his tenure in 1999, how could he have started the GSM program, launch it and make sim cards available within the same year? Remember that the bidding process started from 1999? What about the time to set up infrastructure?Anyway, my gift would be a good a good kiss and a pat on the back to go an sin no more! ![]() irunoobo: |
Show me and I'd give you a gift! I dare you to scan and show me! irunoobo: |
Stop lying!!! irunoobo: |
GSM was started in 2000 and officially launched in 2001! How could you have bought a sim in 1999? Some lies don't add up! Abeg, apologise to those who don't know better! Please don't argue...Google is your friend! irunoobo: |
You must truly be an "indomie generation" product! I first ate indomie in 1990 during my days at FGC Kaduna. How would you believe that indomie came out in 2000 (the year of GSM!)? Nsogbu dikwa! izzyboy10: |

So sorry to hear that! Life can deal the wrong cards! May he RIP! Imprida: |
I see nothing quite conclusive in the art of temporal government, But violence, duplicity, and frequent malversation. King rules or barons rule: The strong man strongly and the weak man by caprice. They have but one law, to seize the power and keep it, And the steadfast can manipulate the greed and lust of others, The feeble is devoured by his own. – T.S. Eliot, Murder in the Cathedral |
Did you know him in person? Please throw some light on his former circumstances. Imprida: |
Making a blanket assessment of a multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-faceted group of people is the height of ignorance, foolishness and stupidity. You can assess yourself by this barometer. okeyumez: |
You are very correct! The challenge was not greed; however, it was not entirely ethnic sentiment...Rather, it was a blend of religious and ethnic sentiments in a ratio of 60:40. All the Igbos I know we're not induced with cash to vote Jonathan; they all felt that the Islamic and Northern hegemony shouldn't be allowed to hold sway. Some churches even preached it! Another subset of Igbos felt it was time to heal the wound purportedly caused by the Igbo on the Southeastern Minorities (now known as South-south) by showing unalloyed support. In my opinion, it was an amalgam of these three sentiments. That's not to say that career politicians did not profit from these sentiments and did not show their rapacity! GboyegaD: |
I don't really get some of these comments! Are they not supposed to congratulate APC and Buhari? For me, it's not a sign of fear, but some measure of humanity! Let's allow them express themselves... booqee: |
How do you know the chap is Igbo? Please don't make much out of a storm in a teacup! Buhari has won...comments would come, negative or positive! Please stop stoking tribal fires, and ignore dim wits who do. Have a great day! pendicle: |
This is an unfair statement! I'm not from Bayelsa, but it would be uncharitable to assume that there is no true opposition in Bayelsa. Statements like yours breed discord and promotes untenable positions that do not promote the position of one Nigeria. MaleoPearls: |
You won't know how your man would react until he is faced with the situation. Let me give you a heads up on the possible reality: No man born of a woman would take such an information lightly! He would react in a crazy way (and that's not because he doesn't think highly of you!!) and most likely reject you! Never think you know someone! Most of us having even finished understanding ourselves! Dimples192: |
Thanks dear! Nimzzy: |
You are right! Thanks for the correction. Just so you know, it's "observe" not "obverse" and "correct" not "corect". Have a great day! 2tek: |
Again, this is the prelude to the traditional gang-up I highlighted! You innocently correct someone, then a host of "I must bring you down too" individuals swarm upon you like bees!! I have often wondered about this phenomenon, and my conclusion is that people feel insecure about it. It's just like the issue of crying at someone's demise; statistics shows that most people cry (when they are not related or close to the dead person) because of fear of their own death! The death reminds them of a certainty of their own death, and it brings unprecedented sorrow!! I understand Miss C...give me more! cococandy: |
You still don't get it, do you? Read through the definitions of "seek" I presented and find the one that is most apt for the context I stated. No tautology implied by this context! I won't insult you, but you truly need to get things in perspective before commenting. Thanks. cococandy: |
Honestly, @Classicman47, you are very correct!! I have been on Nairaland for a while, and I have seen worse. I guess I corrected her in a fit of exasperation (when she refused to be corrected by someone else) and the argument went on till it went over the border. No harm meant! I just felt we should get things in perspective, once in a while. The lady in question is obviously better than most. My apologies. Classicman47: |
My guy, you're particularly dull! And so? What's wrong with "search for" excellence? To seek has several connotations which include "attempt to find something", "To try to locate or discover", "To endeavour to obtain or reach" etc. In this context, I meant that we should try to endeavour to obtain excellence! The meaning of a word depends on the context in which it is used, mister. Stop highlighting your poor schooling. I actually thought you had something intelligent to say, and I was willing to learn, insult or not! This is exactly what I was trying to highlight; instead of supporting my point to create a better society, you were rather searching for a weakness in my rendition to scratch your deep inferiority complex. phabulux: |
Bros, you're free to correct me if you know better...To the best of my knowledge, there is nothing wrong with what I wrote. Please send in the correction! phabulux: |
It's not about being right all the time; rather, it's about accepting correction. You correct me, and I correct you; and we'll get better through continuous improvement. Don't do the "GEJ move" of "I don't give a damn"! It backfired against him! Regards! PunkyOh: |
Now, I will interject for the last time, and thereafter leave you to your folly! Essentially, the meaning of a word depends on the context in which it is used; however, words are used to reflect a meaning that is clear to the target audience! Other than that, you'd be rambling. An example is the word "gay"; this word actually meant "to be happy and joyous", but in an urban dictionary, it means to be a homosexual. So, if you say "I am feeling gay today" in 1920, you'd be conveying a pleasant image, but if you say you are feeling gay in 2015, your guess is as good as mine! Words are not just used for their face value or meaning! In Nigerian urban english, there are some acceptable uses of words, and if that fails, please speak or write pidgin. I for one, believe that we should adopt pidgin as our lingua franca, because we all can speak it, it is rich, very descriptive and has a national spread of meaning. Usuality is an archaic word, and not in common use. Thou art in motions that beggeth belief! (I hope you know all these are English words, and can be checked up too?) PunkyOh: |
"Usuality" Certainly, you're not one of them!! I rest my case!!PunkyOh: |
Assuming it is your personal slang for your friends etc, do you think it's particularly intelligent/wise to use it in a public forum? Since you are so good in English and deliberately choose words at random! Part of English writing is the address to "audience" and one chooses words that are most appropriate to the audience. What you use for informal narratives is not the same with what you use for formal narratives! Now, don't take this personal, but I just feel it's time to speak up on this growing trend on Nairaland! Someone writes atrocious English, and when corrected, the bandwagon descends on the critic, often suggesting that he/she should draw meaning from the mumbo-jumbo, instead of correcting the anomaly and setting a standard for intelligent discourse! Why I am gravely worried by this trend is because I see it as a reflection of our Nigerian society where mediocrity, poor controls and lack of excellence are rife! We spend time chanting change, yet the change we truly need is a "mindset change"!!! Can we start aiming for the sky in all our endeavours?!!! Can we start criticising our general performance through structured reviews so that lessons-learnt can reflect in improved performance ![]() Cousin brother doesn't seem like a major faux pas (no matter how you try to burnish it!), but it is part of the canker worms that are eating at our national marrow!! My apologies my "cousin sister"!! PunkyOh: |
What an excuse for mediocrity! Naija must get better! Let's seek for excellence in all we do! That's the white man's secret! No half-measures!! PunkyOh: |
Learn to take corrections! Constructive criticisms help develop intelligent people! It's appalling that you went through secondary school and can still say "cousin brother". Like she said, it's "cousin"; if you want to differentiate further, you can say "male cousin". Thanks for taking the correction! PunkyOh: |
This result is fake! I'm not a PDP supporter, but I know Jigawa elections were moved to the 11th! Can this shameless propaganda stop?? It's heating up the polity! CEOconcord: |
This is very disheartening!! When will we stop being short-changed by criminals masquerading as regional stalwarts? It is well!! |
