I think the problem is from the pins in the drive, all those detacheable stuffs are not very reliable cos, pulling out and in of the drives may make the pins to shift from its position.

But before you go to the enginerr try this.

Right-click my computer
Select Properties
Device manager
then check the drive if it displays any ?? error
If not, rightclick the drive and select scan for hardware change.

The only difference it has from cd-writer is that it can write to dvd.

Thats laptop sure is a good one, depending on what you want to use it for, its almost the same specs with what i have now.

Mine is the last for letters of my firstname:

yeah, thats it.

Try right-clicking the filename u want to open,.

Select Properties.

Change the Open with option to the desirable if its not an application file. But as for the application file, i know not what to tell you am sorry, cos i use a Windows Xp.

if your computer is protected from running .exe files, then try this.

Download the file, when you want to run it, just right-click the exe file, select run-as, and the in dialog box, uncheck "protect my computer from blah blah".

Then click ok.

All u said stands correct, i use a laptop running on 1.73ghz, 256mb ram, 60GIG hard-drive, DVDrom and it serves me well as in processing speed and all that, just the fact that it generates lots of it when used over a long period of time (10 hours).

Your computer might be running hidden updates like windows update, automatic updates or antivirus updates, any of these could bring about the hanging you're talking about, my laptop does that but i take my time to allow it do whatever it is processing for sometime before i pounce on it to do what i want to do on it.
