SUPPORTERS and members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ebonyi State, weekend defected to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The state chapter of PDP witnessed the defection of hundreds of supporters of the leader of APC in the state, Dr. Ogbonnya Onu at his home town, Uburu in Ohaozara Local Government Area of the state.

Onu, the Minister of Science and Technology hails from the same Uburu village with Umahi. The APC members who defected were led by Chief Okorie Onu, kinsman of the Science and Technology Minister, Onu.

The event was at Uburu in Ohaozara local government council of the state on the occasion of grand finale of campaign rallies of the Divine Mandate Organisation of the PDP candidates for the 2019 general elections in Ebonyi State.

The defectors explained that they had to join Umahi, their immediate kinsman contesting for the governorship to ensure that he continues the infrastructural development of the state and their community.

They included brother to the former Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu, who lost to Umahi in 2015; Chief Austin Chukwu of the Labour Party, LP; governorship aspirant of Social Democratic Party, SDP and Dr Austin Nweze.

Port Harcourt residents troopped out today to attend Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike's rally in Community Secondary School, Nkpolu Oroworukwo, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has no reason campaigning in the state if not for their planned reliance on state violence to manipulate the polls.

He said the evil machinations of the APC to waste lives of innocent Rivers people, emboldened the APC to think they can invade Rivers State.

He spoke in Port Harcourt during the PDP Campaign Rally at Community Secondary School, Nkpolu Oroworukwo on Saturday.

He said: "If I was in APC, there are some states that I dare not campaign. One of such states is Rivers State.

"If APC is not a blood sucking political party, they won't be coming to Rivers State to attempt campaigning. In this state, they have nothing on ground to promote themselves. They think they will rely on state violence, but that will fail them".

He said since 2015, he has rejuvenated Port Harcourt, planting key projects to restore the beauty of the Rivers State Capital.

"There was a government here for eight years and it allowed Port Harcourt to decay. Amaechi lived in Borokiri, but did nothing to improve the roads in that area. But I have transformed roads in Borokiri, Township, Abuluoma, GRA, Diobu and other parts of the city", he said.

He said rather than develop Port Harcourt City, Former Rivers State Governor , Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi wanted to re-locate Rivers State University away from the town. He said that the people of Port Harcourt have no reason to consider the APC.

The governor charged Port Harcourt residents to vote for Atiku Abubakar and other PDP candidates for the country to be returned to the path of growth.

He reiterated his declaration that the National Security Adviser has directed INEC to work with internet service providers to shutdown the cyberspace for the rigging of polls . He said all plots to rig will be resisted.

The governor noted that moving forward his administration will create more urban centres in the state.

Following the death former Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, Chief Nnamdi Wokekoro on 12th December, 2017, the youths of Rebisi kingdom, Port Harcourt, Rivers State today staged a peaceful protest to the family of the late Mayor of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area in Ogbunabali and demand for his burial.
According to the post made by Bob Abayomi, the protest was led by the youths leader, Hon Sydney Ogolo who have given the family members 21days ultimatum to come together and organize a befitting funeral for the deceased.

The United States Department of Justice has denied having any record that indicates that Nigeria’s former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has a pending lawsuit in the US.

In an email to our correspondent on Friday, a spokesperson for the US DOJ, Peter Carr said, “Thank you for reaching out to us. I have checked the public court records, and they do not show cases filed against a defendant named Atiku Abubakar.”

This was stated as a response to SUNDAY PUNCH’s request for information on whether Abubakar is wanted in the US in connection with any issue of money laundering.

The mail also asked the department to confirm whether Abubakar has been banned from entering the US and if there is any court case against him concerning the Halliburton scandal which resulted in the conviction of a US lawmaker, William Jefferson.

Asked if it is true that the ex-vice president (now a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress) was banned from entering the US, the American official said the issue was confidential.

He said, “Visa issues are confidential under section 222(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act. If your question is specifically about entry – not about visas per se – I would refer you to the US Customs and Border Protection.”

Last week, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai, had implied that Abubakar was avoiding a visit to the US because he might be charged with a case of money laundering.

He reacted to Abubakar’s interview which he granted to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s quarterly publication, Zero Tolerance, where he had accused the Kaduna governor of corruption by offering him Transcorp’s shares.

Hon Collyns Owhonda, a 2015 house of representative candidate under All Progressives Congress (APC) has blasted Hon Nsiegbe Blessing Ibiba who's representing PHALGA Federal Constituency II in Rivers State under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a media chat with newsmen at his office in Eagle Island, Rivers State.

He stated that the House of Representative member has never been able to present even a single bill since she became a lawmaker. He said Hon. Hon Nsiegbe Blessing does not have an investment in her State but busy building hotels in other States that will be of no benefits to her people and her constituents.

"She's doing this because she was rigged into office in 2015 and does not know what representation means to the people." he said.

He further state that the lawmaker does not have the interest of the people at heart, and has never attracted any developmental project(s) to her constituency since 2015.

Hon. Owhonda further stated that Nigerians are wiser now, and the people of PHALGA Federal Constituency II are also aware of all PDP tactics, so, there will be no space for such rigging come 2019.

When asked if he was coming out to contest this time around, the honourable member says he will let the public know when it is time to declare, but for now, he has not declare his intention to contest for any political position.
