Simpson regains freedom, After Being Discharged from Parole Earlier than anticipated. After being released from prison early in Nevada, O.J. Simpson is now a "completely free man." Simpson had been on parole since his release from jail in October 2017 for armed robbery and kidnapping. A representative for the Nevada Department of Public Safety confirmed to PEOPLE that the former NFL star, 74, was released from parole on Dec. 6 – more than two months sooner than scheduled. Since October 2017, Simpson had been on parole. His parole would have otherwise ended on February 9, 2022, according to the spokeswoman. Simpson was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and Ron Goldman, but he did spent nine years in prison in Las Vegas for abduction and armed robbery after being charged with another crime. In 2008, Simpson was found guilty. Only three days after investigators say he and five other guys traveled to a Las Vegas casino, he was detained. The victims, many of whom were related to the Heisman Trophy winner, were persuaded to believe that a potential buyer was coming to their casino hotel room to look at their valuables. Simpson and his colleagues, two of whom were armed, rushed into the room, crammed the artifacts into pillowcases, and left, according to officials. According to the Associated Press, since his release from prison, Simpson has remained in Las Vegas, where he lives in a gated golf enclave. "Life is fine," Simpson told the news outlet in 2019. He also revealed that he and his two children with Brown, Justin, 33, do not discuss Brown's death. "There's no need for us to relive the worst day of our life." "The topic of the time is a topic I will never return to," he remarked. "My family and I have progressed to what we refer to as the 'no negative' stage." Photo Credit: Jason Bean-Pool/Getty

Following a successful spell as caretaker manager with a stunning 3-2 defeat of Arsenal, Michael Carrick has decided to leave Manchester United after Ralf Rangnick was confirmed as the new interim manager earlier on Thursday, having served as assistant to Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who was sacked last month. Carrick signed for United as a midfielder in the summer of 2006, before retiring in the summer of 2018 and joining the coaching staff. “My time at this great club will always rank as the best years of my career,” Carrick said. “When I first signed over 15 years ago, I never in my wildest dreams could have imagined winning so many trophies and I will certainly never forget the fantastic memories both as a player and as a member of the coaching team. “However, after a lot of thought and deliberation, I have decided that now is the right time for me to leave the club. I want to place on record my thanks to all of the players and a special mention goes to the backroom staff, working long hours with such a great group of people has been a real pleasure and I have made some long-lasting friendships.” Rangnick’s arrival as Solskjær’s replacement was delayed by red tape but in the buildup to the Arsenal game Carrick said he had not been in any contact with the incoming German coach. John Murtough, the club’s football director, said: “We are grateful for the steady leadership Michael has shown through this period of managerial transition, and, while he is now stepping away from day-to-day involvement, he will always be welcome back as a legend of the club.” The victory over Arsenal completed a run of three games where Carrick was in charge, a Champions League win at Villarreal, last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea and the comeback win against Arsenal before his announcement. Taliban fighters shot and killed a woman for not wearing a burqa in Afghanistan on Tuesday — the same day the group pledged to usher in a new inclusive era in the country that honors “women’s rights.” A photo emerged of a woman in Takhar province lying in a pool of blood, with loved ones crouched around her, after she was killed by insurgents for being in public without a head covering, according to Fox News. The killing came amid the group’s version of a charm offensive, after its swift takeover of the country in the absence of US troops, who had been propping up allied military groups since shortly after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid held a news conference to say that the insurgents would honor women’s rights, within highly restrictive Sharia law. The militants urged women to return to school and work, and another Taliban spokesman granted a televised interview to a female journalist. Mujahid also vowed to grant amnesty to Afghans who worked with the now-toppled government backed by the US. Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid said rights will be afforded to women with Islamic law when he spoke during a press conference on August 17, 2021. https://nypost.com/2021/08/17/taliban-kill-woman-not-wearing-burqa-after-vowing-to-honor-womens-rights/?utm_campaign=iphone_nyp&utm_source=pasteboard_app&utm_source=reddit.com

A Zambian Pastor has died leaving behind 32 wives, 520 children, and 1,300 grandchildren, Vanguard reports. According to a close cousin, the Pastor was of the Zion Church in Choma District. Kebby Mutetete revealed that his brother-in-law, only known as Bishop Simutwe, is 68 years old and has over 1,300 grandchildren. According to Mutetete, the late Zion pastor had a total of 47 wives, but only 32 at the time of his death. While other known energetic men struggle to satisfy their spouses and side chic, Simutwe is said to have attended to over ten of his wives in a single day, giving him an army of over 500 offspring during his lifetime. Simutwe would advise the last woman to alert the next one to enter an apartment for some timed mouthwatering love-making session, similar to how clients take turns seeing their doctor. The late Bishop, according to Mutetete, was laid to rest in Siankope village, Choma district, along the Masuku road Zambia. He has now expressed gratitude to the church for donating to his burial and purchasing a K28, 000 casket for him. The incident happened around 2:00 am as the gunmen arrived at the barracks and started shooting sporadically in the air to cause panic in the Army community. Gunmen suspected to be bandits have invaded the military barracks of the Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, Kaduna State, and carted away a herd of cattle in the early hours of Thursday. The incident happened around 2:00 am as the gunmen arrived at the barracks and started shooting sporadically in the air to cause panic in the Army community. Though the exact number of the cattle stolen could not be determined, an eyewitness told SaharaReporters on Thursday evening that the cows would not be less than a hundred in number based on previous experience. According to the source who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, the cattle were owned by Army officers. He, therefore, expressed shock that the barracks could be so porous for bandits to attack without any form of resistance. The source told SaharaReporters the first time it happened was last year and that about 400 cows were taken away by the bandits in what he described as a bloodless attack on the barracks. He, however, said some of the animals found their way back to their ranch. The Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji in Kaduna State is a training facility for the Nigerian Armed Forces, including the army, air force, and navy. “Around 2:00 am on Thursday, gunmen invaded where cattle are kept at Jaji barracks in Kaduna here. Those cattle are owned by some military officers. So, they are kept at the Mammy market, inside the barracks at Jaji here. I cannot tell you the number of cows taken by these bandits but before the operation, they were shooting sporadically in the air. “Even the people outside the barracks heard the gunshots. And this was not the first time. The first time it happened was last year. That one happened close to the Firing Range. They went there and took away all the cattle. About 400 cows were taken away. Some of them (cows) managed to come back to their ranch,” the source said. When asked if the bandits came with a truck or any vehicle to convey the cattle, the eyewitness said they did not drive any truck. He said they took the cattle away on foot. The source expressed concern that the barracks always accommodate Army officers from other African and Asian countries who take some courses at the college, adding that it would be an embarrassment should a foreigner be abducted on Nigerian soil. He also lamented that both the military personnel and civilians living in the barracks and the areas surrounding the military base are no longer safe. He said there have been several attacks launched by bandits on the communities. “They didn’t come with any vehicle. They would just come on foot and push the cattle away. This is telling us that one day, even, the Army officers in the barracks can be kidnapped. And the barracks are one of the most strategic barracks in the country. “In the barracks there, there are houses that even foreign Army officers that are taking courses live in. The Jaji barracks are among the largest in the country and if this kind of thing is happening there, that means we are not safe anymore. “There was a time even military officers from African and Asian countries came for courses there. Majors and Captains do come there from different countries. Every graduation, you will notice that about 17 African countries participate. It means that even foreign officers can be abducted. And if this happens, it is a slap on the face of the country. “I don’t know if the military authorities are doing anything to see how they can tackle the issue. What I want you to know is that even the immediate areas surrounding the barracks are being attacked daily, and nothing is done. Outside the cantonment, barely a kilometre away is not safe,” he said. Prince Charles Was Secretly Questioned over Princess Diana's Scared Note: 'My Husband Is Planning an Accident' Prince Charles was interviewed at St. James's Palace as a witness in 2005 Prince Charles was questioned by the U.K. police in 2005 about the death of his ex-wife, Princess Diana, according to a new report. The probe was part of Operation Paget, the investigation into the various conspiracy theories surrounding Diana's death launched by the British Metropolitan Police in 2004. Former head of Scotland Yard John Stevens told the Daily Mail that he spoke to Prince Charles about a note that Princess Diana wrote in 1995 which said, "My husband is planning 'an accident' in my car, brake failure and serious head injury," so that he could marry Tiggy Legge-Bourke, a nanny for Prince William and Prince Harry. Charles and Diana divorced in 1996. Prince Charles was interviewed at St. James's Palace as a witness two years into the investigation after the note became public in 2003. "Yes, allegations had been made about the Prince of Wales and other royals but we had to find or examine the [existing] evidence before we approached him with formal questions," Stevens told the outlet. "We found no other evidence to support the scenario suggested in Diana's note." RELATED: Prince Charles Told Princess Diana He Didn't Love Her the Night Before Their Wedding, Her Friend Claims "We were left with the note, which in itself was not enough to make Charles a formal suspect," he continued. "If he chose to assist [Operation] Paget, he would be doing so voluntarily as a potential witness. We would not be interviewing him under caution." Stevens reportedly read the note to Prince Charles then asked him: "Why do you think the princess wrote this note, sir?" The royal replied, "I did not know anything about [the note] until it was published in the media." "You didn't discuss this note with her, sir?" Stevens asked, to which Charles said, "No, I did not know it existed." When asked, "Do you know why the princess had these feelings, sir?" Charles replied, "No, I don't." "At the end of the day he was incredibly cooperative because he had nothing to hide," Stevens told the Daily Mail. Although Prince Charles, now 72, cooperated with the investigation, his father, Prince Philip, declined to assist in the investigation. He returned a request to comment on the allegations with three words, "No, thank you." The Federal Government has reintroduced COVID-19 restrictions across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). This new directive is to take effect by midnight of Tuesday, a member of the Presidential Steering Committee (PSC) on COVID-19, Dr Mukhtar Mohammed, declared. Mohammed, who is the Head of Technical Secretariat of the PSC, made the announcement while briefing reporters on Monday in Abuja. With the restrictions imposed, mass gatherings in public spaces have been restricted to 50 people at any given time. Access to government institutions would also be denied to anyone not wearing a face mask while government meetings and travels have been limited to the virtual platform. According to Mohammed, the government has directed that bars and nightclubs should remain closed and the nationwide curfew will be in force until further notice. He added that only essential international travels would be encouraged, and all existing protocols must be strictly adhered to. The PSC member, however, stated that there was no limitation to intra-state travel. On his part, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Mr Boss Mustapha, said returning foreign passengers who fled the quarantine facilities and violated the compulsory requirement would not go unpunished. He noted that the committee has received reports that some persons who recently returned to the country violated the mandatory quarantine requirement under the advisory by escaping from the facilities. Mustapha, who is also the PSC Chairman, condemned the violation of the nation’s laws and hospitality, noting that the committee was awaiting the report of ongoing investigations and would impose appropriate sanctions on the violators. He revealed that the PSC has considered several pre-emptive measures to be taken to mitigate the likely impact of the variants of COVID-19, should they get imported into Nigeria. The SGF explained that the step became important in view of the fragile state of the nation’s health systems, the disruption to the delivery of vaccines, and the lack of compliance with the extant public health measures and social measures contained in the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Health Protection Regulations 2021. According to him, it is imperative to reinstitute the various public health measures that were put in place under the health protection regulations. On May 3, 1469, the Italian philosopher and writer Niccolo Machiavelli is born. A lifelong patriot and diehard proponent of a unified Italy, Machiavelli became one of the fathers of modern political theory. Machiavelli entered the political service of his native Florence by the time he was 29. As defense secretary, he distinguished himself by executing policies that strengthened Florence politically. He soon found himself assigned diplomatic missions for his principality, through which he met such luminaries as Louis XII of France, Pope Julius II, the Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I, and perhaps most importantly for Machiavelli, a prince of the Papal States named Cesare Borgia. The shrewd and cunning Borgia later inspired the title character in Machiavelli’s famous and influential political treatise The Prince (1532) Machiavelli’s political life took a downward turn after 1512, when he fell out of favor with the powerful Medici family. He was accused of conspiracy, imprisoned, tortured and temporarily exiled. It was an attempt to regain a political post and the Medici family’s good favor that Machiavelli penned The Prince, which was to become his most well-known work. Though released in book form posthumously in 1532, The Prince was first published as a pamphlet in 1513. In it, Machiavelli outlined his vision of an ideal leader: an amoral, calculating tyrant for whom the end justifies the means. The Prince not only failed to win the Medici family’s favor, it also alienated him from the Florentine people. Machiavelli was never truly welcomed back into politics, and when the Florentine Republic was reestablished in 1527, Machiavelli was an object of great suspicion. He died later that year, embittered and shut out from the Florentine society to which he had devoted his life. Though Machiavelli has long been associated with the practice of diabolical expediency in the realm of politics that was made famous in The Prince, his actual views were not so extreme. In fact, in such longer and more detailed writings as Discourses on the First Ten Books of Livy (1517) and History of Florence (1525), he shows himself to be a more principled political moralist. Still, even today, the term “Machiavellian” is used to describe an action undertaken for gain without regard for right or wrong. Hitler served within the German army in war I and was awarded the Iron Cross for bravery twice. After the war, he became the leader of the Nazi German Workers (Nazi) Party. As a leader, he attacked the Treaty of Versailles, promoted Pan-Germanism, anti-Semitism, and anti-communism. His charismatic oratory backed by Nazi propaganda found a receptive audience in Germany during the good Depression. Appointed chancellor in 1933, Hitler quickly consolidated power. Appointing himself Führer in 1934 he soon turned Germany into a totalitarian one-party dictatorship. His first six years in power resulted in rapid economic recovery from the good Depression, the removal of restrictions imposed on Germany after war I, and therefore the annexation of territories that were home to many ethnic Germans. Hitler’s aggressive policy is taken into account to be the first explanation for the outbreak of war II in Europe. He directed large-scale rearmament and on September 1st, 1939 invaded Poland, leading to British and French declarations of war on Germany. In June 1941, Hitler ordered an invasion of the Soviet Union. By the top of 1941, German forces and therefore the European Axis powers occupied most of Europe and North Africa. Failure to defeat the Soviet Union and therefore the entry of the US into the war forced Germany onto the defensive and ultimately its defeat. With the Red Army closing in on Berlin, Hitler and his long-time lover Braun committed suicide on April 30th, 1945. Hitler and therefore the Nazi regime were liable for the killing of an estimated 19.3 million civilians and prisoners of war. additionally, 29 million soldiers and civilians died as a result of activities within the European theatre of war II. the number of civilians killed was unprecedented and constitutes the deadliest conflict in human history. Ramadan is a sacred and holy month of fasting, introspection, and prayer for Muslims, the followers of Islam. It’s celebrated because of the month during which Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the initial revelations of the Quran, the holy book for Muslims. Fasting is one of the five fundamental principles of Islam. Every day during Ramadan, Muslims don’t eat or drink from sunrise to sunset. they’re also alleged to avoid impure thoughts and bad behavior. Muslims break their daily fasts by sharing meals with family and friends, and therefore the end of Ramadan is widely known with a three-day festival referred to as Eid al-Fitr, one among Islam’s major holidays. Ramadan always falls on the ninth month of the 12-month Islamic calendar. Ramadan 2021 begins at sunset on Monday, April 12, and will end on Wednesday, May 12. Muslims believe that around 610 A.D. a person named Muhammad (c.570-632) from the Arabian city of Mecca started receiving revelations from God, or Allah, via the angel Gabriel. The revelations were collated into a 114-chapter holy book referred to as the Quran (or Koran), which Muslims believe contains the precise words of God. Prophet Muhammad is, as claimed by Muslims, the last prophet in the order of great prophets like Adam, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus who were chosen by God to act as messengers and teach mankind. Muslims believe there’s one all-knowing God, and People will be saved if they obey his commandments.. In Arabic, Islam means “submission” or “surrender” (to God). Brief Fact After Christianity, Islam is the world’s second-largest religion, with over 1 billion adherents. Islam began in Arabia and has since spread across the globe. Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Turkey, and Iran have the largest Muslim populations. Nigeria’s Muslim population is estimated to be between 50 and 52 percent. Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, which is a lunar calendar centered on the moon’s phases. The lunar calendar is 11 days behind the solar calendar. As a result, Ramadan does not begin on the same day every year, but rather moves through all four seasons over time. Ramadan is widely known because the month during which the Prophet got the first revelations from God that became the Quran, Muslims’ holy book. According to the Quran “The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it.” HOW MUSLIM OBSERVE THE RAMADAN FASTING Muslims fast from daybreak to nightfall every day. They are not allowed to eat, drink, smoke, or engage in sexual intercourse, as well as have unkind or impure thoughts and words, or engage in immoral behaviour. Ramadan is a month dedicated to self-control and meditation. Fasting is thought to be a way to purify the soul and develop empathy for those who are hungry and less fortunate in the world. Muslims visit mosques. During Ramadan, Muslims go to work and school and go about their daily lives as usual; however, some Muslims read the entire Quran, say special prayers, and visit mosques more frequently. Fasting is obligatory for all Muslims who have completed puberty and are in good health. The sick and elderly, as well as tourists, pregnant women, and nursing mothers, are excluded, but they must make up for missing fast days or help feed the poor in the future. During Ramadan, the first pre-dawn meal of the day is known as “suhoor.” A meal known as “iftar” is served to break the fast each day. Fruits are traditionally eaten to break the fast. The end of Ramadan is marked by the Eid al-Fitr (or Eid ul-Fitr), or Feast of Fast-Breaking, which is a major celebration. It lasts three days and begins the day after Ramadan ends. Eid al-Fitr is marked by special prayers and meals with friends and family, as well as the exchange of gifts. To all our Muslim brothers and sisters, as you observe this fasting, May Allah answers all your prayers in this holy month of Ramadan. N.B- I aim for accuracy and fairness in everything I do. However, if you see anything that isn't quite right, please drop a comment or send me a mail! Citation- http://chrisdaramola.com.ng/ramadan-its-history-rules-and-facts/

That's my fear... I pray Nigeria doesn't go the way of Rwanda... |
A Brief Intro about Rwanda. Rwanda, formally known as the Republic of Rwanda, is a landlocked country in the Great Rift Valley, where the African Great Lakes area and East Africa join. Perhaps one of the smallest countries on the African territory, its capital city is Kigali. Located a couple of degrees south of the Equator, Rwanda Shares a border with the likes of Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. It is exceptionally high above sea levels, giving it the nickname “land of thousand hills”, with its geology overwhelmed by mountains in the west and savanna toward the east, with various lakes all through the country. The environment is mild to subtropical, with two stormy seasons and two dry seasons every year. Rwanda has a populace of over 12.6 million living on 26,338 km2 (10,169 sq mi) of land and is the most thickly populated terrain African country. By the mid-1990s, Rwanda, a little country with an overwhelmingly agricultural economy, had one of the greatest population densities in Africa. Around 85% of its populace was Hutu; the rest were Tutsi, alongside a few Twa, a Pygmy bunch who were the first occupants of Rwanda. The genesis of the problem started during the Colonial period, during which the Belgians supported the minority Tutsis over the Hutus, thereby increasing the bitterness of both ethnicities, which brought about the high level of violence even before Independence. In 1959, there was a revolution by the Hutus which caused over 300,000 Tutsis to leave the country thereby reducing the Tutsi tribe. By early 1961, The Tutsi king was deposed and a Hutu-dominated republic was created, After a referendum by the United Nations that same year, Rwanda was formally granted independence by Belgium in July 1962. Ethnically inspired violence continues to erupt soon after freedom. In 1973, the military-installed Major General Juvenal Habyarimana, a moderate Hutu, in power. He was toppled following a coup in 1973, which brought President Juvénal Habyarimana to the number one position in the country. President Juvénal Habyarimana ruled the country for over twenty years. During the 1980s, a gathering of 500 Rwandan exiles in Uganda, led by Fred Rwigyema, who battled with the revolutionary National Resistance Army (NRA) in the Ugandan Bush War, which saw Yoweri Museveni oust Milton Obote. These soldiers stayed in the Ugandan armed force following Museveni’s initiation as Ugandan president, yet all the while started arranging an invasion of Rwanda through an undercover organization inside the military’s ranks. In October 1990, Rwigyema led a force of over 4,000 rebels from Uganda, proceeded into Rwanda under the flag of the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF), unfortunately, Rwigyema was killed on the third day of the attack, and France and Zaire rolled out soldiers in support of Rwandan armed force, allowing them to repel the invasion. Paul Kagame, Rwigyema’s deputy took control of the RPF forces, coordinating a strategic retreat through Uganda to the Virunga Mountains, a rough space of northern Rwanda. From there, he rearmed and revamped the military, and did raise money and enrollment from the Tutsi in the diaspora. In 1990, forces of the Rwandese Patriotic Front (RPF), under the leadership of Paul Kagame restarted the war, The RPF pursued a quick in and out style guerrilla war, catching some boundary regions, however not making critical gains against the Rwandan army. In June 1992, following the development of a multiparty alliance government in Kigali, the RPF declared a truce and started dealings with the Rwandan government in Arusha, Tanzania. In August 1993, President Habyarimana agreed to an arrangement at Arusha, Tanzania, requiring the creation of a joint government between the Rwanda government and the RPF. This agreement didn’t go down well with Hutu extremists, which might before long take an evil decision to stop it. On April 6, 1994, a plane conveying Habyarimana and Burundi’s President Cyprien Ntaryamira was shot down bizarrely In the city of Kigali, leaving no survivors. (It has never been indisputably figured out who the offenders were. Some have accused Hutu radicals, while others accused heads of the RPF) In less than 24 hours, the Presidential Guard, along with individuals from the Rwandan military (FAR) and Hutu militia army is known as the Interahamwe (“Those Who Attack Together”) and Impuzamugambi (“Those Who Have the Same Goal”), set up detours and blockades and started butchering Tutsis and moderate Hutus without any potential repercussions. Politically, the next in line to succeed President Habyarimana’s was Prime Minister Agathe Uwilingiyimana but the crisis committee that was formed shortly After the President’s assassination refused to accept her authority but instead ordered her to be executed, she, her husband, and some Belgian soldiers were the first to be murdered in the pogrom after which prominent members of the TUTSI ethnicity was killed. The mass killings in Kigali immediately spread from that city to the remainder of Rwanda. In the initial fourteen days, local administrators in central and southern Rwanda, where most Tutsi lived, opposed the killing. After April 18, State authorities eliminated the resisters and slaughtered a few of them. Other opponents at that point fell quiet or effectively supported the execution. Authorities compensated killers with food, drink, drugs, and cash. Government-supported radio broadcasts began encouraging common Rwandan civilians to kill their neighbors. Within three months, exactly 800,000 individuals had been butchered. The RPF restarted its hostile not long after Habyarimana’s death. It quickly held onto control of the northern piece of the country and captured Kigali around 100 days after in mid-July, stopping the annihilation. After its triumph, the RPF set up a coalition government like that agreed upon at Arusha, with Pasteur Bizimungu, a Hutu, as president, and Paul Kagame, a Tutsi, as VP and defense minister. After the genocide, more than 1,000,000 individuals were conceivably culpable in the massacre nearly one-fifth of the population remaining after the summer of 1994. The RPF pursued a policy of mass arrests for those responsible and for those persons who took part in the genocide, jailing over 100,000 people in the two years after the genocide. The pace of arrests overwhelmed the physical capacity of the Rwandan prison system, leading to what Amnesty International deemed “cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment”. The country’s 19 prisons were designed to hold about 18,000 inmates total, but at their peak in 1998, there were over 100,000 people in crowded detention facilities across the country. In October 1994, the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR), situated in Tanzania, was set up as an expansion of the International Criminal Tribunal for previous Yugoslavia (ICTY) at The Hague, the primary worldwide court since the Nuremberg Trials of 1945-46, and the first with the command to arraign the wrongdoing of massacre. In 1995, the ICTR started prosecuting and attempting various higher-positioning individuals for their job in the Rwandan destruction; the cycle was made more troublesome on the grounds that the whereabouts of numerous suspects were obscure. The preliminaries proceeded over the course of the following decade and a half, including the 2008 conviction of three previous senior Rwandan guards and military authorities for getting sorted out the destruction. Sharpville Massacre- Today, we honor the memories of all the lives lost on this day March 21st, 1960 When white police in apartheid South Africa killed 67 Blacks and wounded 186... According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sharpeville_massacre, The Sharpeville massacre occurred on 21 March 1960, at the police station in the South African township of Sharpeville in Transvaal (today part of Gauteng). After a day of demonstrations against pass laws, a crowd of about 7,000 protesters went to the police station. The South African Police opened fire on the crowd, killing 69 people and injuring 180 others. Sources disagree as to the behaviour of the crowd; some state that the crowd was peaceful, while others state that the crowd had been hurling stones at the police, and that the shooting started when the crowd started advancing toward the fence around the police station. There were 249 casualties in total, including 29 children. Many were shot in the back as they fled.[1] The massacre was photographed by photographer Ian Berry, who initially believed the police were firing blanks.[2] In present-day South Africa, 21 March is celebrated as a public holiday in honour of human rights and to commemorate the Sharpeville massacre.

Lou Ottens, who changed the music landscape when he invented the cassette tape nearly six decades ago, has reportedly died at age 94 at his home in the Netherlands. It was in 1952 that Ottens began working for Dutch electronics maker Philips, where he'd become the head of the company's product development department, Dutch News reported. By 1963, his team had created both the first portable tape recorder and the cassette tape, an analog magnetic tape recording format that allowed for audio recording and playback. According to NPR, Ottens was inspired to create the cassette by a vision of making music portable and accessible for everyone. "He advocated for Philips to license this new format to other manufacturers for free, paving the way for cassettes to become a worldwide standard," documentary filmmaker Zack Taylor told the outlet. "Cassettes taught us how to use our voice, even when the message came from someone else's songs, compiled painstakingly on a mixtape," Taylor, who spoke to Ottens for his film, Cassette: A Documentary Mixtape, said. While creating the cassette, Ottens knew he wanted something that could fit in consumers' pockets, so he used a wooden model to come up with the perfect size, Dutch News reported. More than 100 billion cassettes were sold worldwide after Ottens introduced his team's invention to the public. Of course, the cassette would be phased out by the compact disc a few decades later. But Ottens also played a part in the creation of the disc, called the "CD" for short, through a partnership with Philips and Sony. "From now on, the conventional record player is obsolete," Ottens said after Philips debuted the CD in 1982, according to the BBC. Taylor said Ottens' impact on music can still be felt today, even if consumers have largely turned to digital streaming over physical media for their music. "So next time you make that perfect playlist on Spotify, or send a link to share a song, you can thank Lou Ottens," he said of the engineer, according to NPR. Following his death, Philips called Ottens an "extraordinary man" who launched a "revolution." "It saddened all of us to hear about Lou Ottens' passing. Lou was an extraordinary man who loved technology, even as his inventions had humble beginnings," the Philips Museum said in a statement, according to WTOP News. "During the development of the cassette tape, in the early 1960s, he had a wooden block made that fit exactly in his coat pocket. This was how big the first Compact Cassette was to be, making it a lot handier than the bulky tape recorders in use at the time." "His invention came to be known as the Cassette Tape and over 100 billion were sold globally. In addition the Compact Cassette, the Compact Disc or CD, was thanks in part to his inventiveness," the company added. "The worldwide success always surprised him though: 'We knew it could become big, but could have never imagined it would be a revolution.'"
