62nd Independence: Nigeria shall rise again – Atiku assures September 30, 2022 The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Nigerians on the celebration of its 62nd Independence Day anniversary assuring that the nation will rise again. The former Vice President in a statement by his media office in Abuja on Friday said the celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day expresses hope that Nigeria will surmount all challenges. Atiku said the celebration is another opportunity to reawaken Nigerians’ consciousness towards the consolidation of unity amongst the diverse people of the country. Waziri Adamawa who noted that Nigeria has come a long way after independence said democracy has the requisite antidote to the current challenges the country is going through. Atiku said the challenges are the results of the inadequacies of the economic plans put in place by the All Progressives Congress (APC)). The former Vice President said the increasing lack of unity compounds Nigeria’s challenges. The statement read in part “the Wazirin Adamawa noted further that, though Nigeria is beset with challenges that range from inadequacies of our economic plans to cover a large percentage of our people who live below the poverty line; to security skirmishes that daily threaten the safety of lives and property of Nigerians, the root cause of these problems is traceable to the increasing lack of unity amongst us. He, however, assured that as one people and under the canopy of one country sharing in one future, Nigeria will surmount her challenges and enthrone a nation of dreams. And as Nigeria goes into the general elections next year, Atiku Abubakar urged everyone to give the issue of building national unity primary attention. “Nigerians should elect leaders who are individuals with proven track records of being protagonists of unity and peace. “I believe that when we fix the issues that continue to compromise our national unity, we would invariably fix issues that upset our peace and security and subsequently create an environment that can encourage economic prosperity”. He appealed to the members of the international community to continue to have confidence in the country. Atiku called on all people of faith across the country not to relent in their prayers to God to keep Nigeria as a country of peace and prosperity. |

2023: Kaduna PDP governorship candidate decries insecurity in state September 27, 2022 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), governorship candidate in Kaduna State, Isah Muhammad Ashiru has lamented increased waves of criminality in the state. In a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Shuaibu Gimi, Ashiru said the insecurity in Kaduna State required urgent attention. He said the current top-bottom strategy of the present government and the sack of traditional rulers had resulted in the existence of vast ungoverned areas, warning they are the factors causing the deterioration of security in Kaduna State. “The ex-lawmaker said the agrarian nature of Kaduna State calls for greater attention to agriculture as the biggest employer of labour.” He also lamented the poor economic condition of the majority of the people. |
Kaduna PDP chieftain urges party leaders to settle differences before 2023 elections September 16, 2022 A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain in the Kajuru Local Goverment Area of Kaduna State, Alhaji Ahmed Tijani, has begged the party to settle their differences before the 2023 general elections. Tijani, who expressed discomfort with the lingering crisis rocking the party, noted that Nigerians were looking forward to seeing its triumph in 2023. He wondered why the crisis has taken too long to be settled, adding that all members ought to have one voice before the general elections. “All Nigerians are looking, praying toward the PDP to win the 2023 general election, but some members of the party are trying to bring down the glory of the party,” he said. According to him, since the ruling party has failed, its members are decamping to PDP because they have no alternative. Recalls that the cordial relationship between former vice president Atiku Abubakar and Governor Wike of River State went soar immediately the former was declared winner of the presidential primaries. However, the cold war led to the resignation of one of the party’s chieftains, Alhaji Walid Jibrin, last week. It is not certain when the crisis will be resolved as the ruling party leaders and governors have continued to woo Governor Wike to their side. |
Over 13,000 APC members decamp to PDP in Kaduna September 16, 2022 Ahead of the 2023 general elections, over 13,000 All Progressives Congress, APC, members in Kaduna State, on Saturday, in Zonkwa, defected to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. Speaking during the defection ceremony in Zonkwa, Kaduna State PDP Chairman, Hon. Felix Hassan Hyat, who described the defection as symbolic and historical, noted that the good work of the opposition party will help it win the governorship election in the coming year. According to him, the only PDP stronghold in the entire North-west Zone was in Southern Kaduna. He regretted that Southern Kaduna, under the ruling party, had experienced infrastructural deficit and a high level of insecurity, noting that the region only enjoyed federal appointments and infrastructural development during the PDP administration. The PDP National Youth Leader, Hon. Mohammed Kadede, said the new members had taken a wise decision, having realised that PDP was the party that Nigerians needed come 2023, to rescue them from the APC’s regime, and expressed confidence that the PDP would win the elections from the state level to the national level in 2023. Treasurer of the opposition party, North-West, Hon. Rabiu Bakori, who formally received the new members on behalf of the North-West Zonal PDP Chairman, Sen. Hayyatu Gwarzo, in Zonkwa, on Saturday, noted that if the PDP must win the 2023 elections, every member must put in his/her best, adding that the ruling party had in 2015 promised to enhance security, but have ended up enhancing fears in the minds of Nigerians. He said Kaduna residents must work hard to ensure that PDP wins at the polls to ensure justice, fairness, and true democratic values. |

Abdullahi-Fakai said they were discovered at a NDLEA checkpoint on the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja road. The suspects, Sagir Isiyaka (40) and Bello Shehu Usman (42), were traveling in a J5 Boxer Bus from Onitsha to Abuja. “When asked about how they came about such dangerous arms and ammunition, they couldn’t give any cogent reason”, Abdullahi-Fakai said. The official added that the case has been transferred to the Police Command in Kogi for further investigation. |
Queen Of England’s Death, End Of Golden Era – Atiku September 8, 2022 Presidential candidate of Nigeria’s major opposition party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has mourned the death of Queen Elizabeth II of England, describing her passing as an end of a golden era. Atiku, who reacted to the monarch’s demise via his verified Twitter handle on Thursday evening, said the passing of Queen Elizabeth II came to everyone around the globe with a rude shock. The PDP presidential candidate wrote: “Her passing is an end of a golden era. Her reign was epochal, not just in the United Kingdom but the entire Commonwealth. “The world has known only one Queen, and the passing of Queen Elizabeth II will be the end of an impactful reign, and for the rest of our humanity, it shall be the beginning of history. “My thoughts and prayers are with the people and government of the United Kingdom and, importantly, the @RoyalFamily. “May the soul of the Queen Rest in Peace. -AA.” |
Aminu Tambuwal resigns as Chairman PDP Governors Forum September 8, 2022 The Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has resigned as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum. His resignation followed that of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the party, Jibrin Walid, earlier in the day. Walid was immediately replaced in acting capacity by a former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara. The resignations were at the ongoing meeting of the National Executive Committee of the party in Abuja. As at press time, a replacement was yet to be named for Tambuwal. There had been complaints about lopsidedness between the North and the South in the hierarchy of the PDP. This had been more so from the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who lost the party’s presidential primaries to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He has the support of a former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Olabode George. |

September 7, 2022 Press Statement Yahaya Bello’s Inciting Video, an Act of Terrorism -PDP The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is alarmed by the disturbing video of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State inciting his supporters, threatening to burn and unleash maximum violence on Nigerians during the 2023 general elections. In the video, Governor Bello was heard issuing terrorism threats in which he said, “I will personally light a fierce fire in my hand whoever want it we shall use it to burn them, whoever survive it will thank God… Whoever is against us we will make him or her join my mother and lie with her (my mother) in grave.” By FBI definition, terrorism is the “unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”. This brazen threat by Governor Yahaya Bello raises apprehensions in the public space of the existence of a killer squad established to inflict violence on Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections just because they have rejected the corrupt, divisive and rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC), which failure is most manifest by Yahaya Bello’s abysmal performance in Kogi State. From his outburst, Nigerians now know the individuals who engineered the gruesome killing of many of our citizens including the PDP Woman Leader in Kogi State, Mrs. Salome Abu, who was burnt alive in her house in 2019, Also, Nigerians now have more insight into the disappearance of Hon. Adelabu Musa, the PDP Chairman in Okene Local Government Area for over three years now. Furthermore, the PDP recalls how the Bello-led Kogi State Government was accused of breeding and arming thugs as well as fake security operatives to harass and attack Nigerians in Kogi State during the 2019 general elections. This threat to violence and actual violence to Nigerians especially at this time have the capacity to cause a breach of public peace, truncate the 2023 electoral process and derail our democracy. The PDP therefore calls on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately call Governor Yahaya Bello to order and place him and his supporters on security watch list as threat to democracy ahead of the 2023 general elections. Our Party also charges the Inspector General of Police to immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the activities of Governor Yahaya Bello with a view to nipping this ugly trend in the bud as well as prosecuting him at the end of his tenure as Governor of Kogi State. We urge Nigerians, especially those in Kogi State not to be deterred by Yahaya Bello whose days in office are numbered but remain vigilant and continue to rally with the PDP in the determination to liberate our nation from the stranglehold of the APC and the likes of Yahaya Bello, come 2023. Signed: Hon. Debo Ologunagba National Publicity Secretary |
Former Kaduna State Governor, Ahmed Makarfi has described the growing call for the resignation of the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as an unwise decision that could bring more crisis that would affect the chances of the party in the forthcoming general elections. Insecurity deteriorated under APC govt – Senator Makarfi September 2 ,2022 Former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi on Friday, lambasted the All Progressive Congress Party-led government, saying almost everything, including insecurity has deteriorated. Makarfi, who was elected Senator during the 8th Assembly, spoke during an interview with BBC Hausa, which was monitored by our correspondent in Kaduna. The former Senator who governed Kaduna State from 1999-2007, said many Nigerians cannot go to farms, markets, or visit their relatives due to insecurity, adding that during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led government, insecurity was only in the North East and yet the country held general election because of the measures taken by the government in power then. “Imagine what is happening in North West, same in the North Central and South. In Nigeria, farming has become very difficult, business has become difficult, visitation has become difficult almost everything is difficult to do,” he said. He said if Nigerians give PDP another chance the party will provide very strong leadership that will confront and address the problems. “What they inherited was Boko Haram insurgency in North East even though PDP was already tackling the situation and that was why the election was held in North East. We didn’t say because of insecurity we couldn’t hold an election but now even in Kaduna State, there is a threat that there will be no political activities in some places not to talk of holding an election. This has never happened in the past, “he said. According to him, if you inherited something in NorthEast, you are to address it but instead of addressing the situation, it has now deteriorated to other regions. According to him, the only way forward is to ensure good and committed leadership which can tackle the situation. |

PDP crisis: You can’t decide for a presidential candidate, says Makarfi August 16, 2022 As the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues its trouble-shooting to reconcile its presidential contender, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, a former national chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has called for caution. • I will never resign as PDP chairman, Ayu declares • Atiku, in first homecoming after convention, receives decampees from APC • Wike berates traitors, says he’s a fulfilled leader • Wike is only playing mind games, will not leave PDP, says Momodu As the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continues its trouble-shooting to reconcile its presidential contender, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, a former national chairman, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, has called for caution. Recall that misunderstanding within the party deepened after Atiku chose Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, as his running mate and discarded the recommendations of a screening committee set up for the position. In an exclusive interview with The Guardian in Abuja, Senator Makarfi noted that it was in a bid to avoid the misgivings of 2019 that the presidential candidate, Atiku, decided to consult widely, stressing that the idea of setting consultative committees did not bind the candidate to the recommendations of the committees. He remarked that although those who lost out have right to be aggrieved, they should recognise the fact that political power comes from God, adding, “a decision is never taken on behalf of a candidate, you can only advice a candidate.” Citing his own experience, Makarfi, who was once the Kaduna State governor, disclosed that on many occasions, he had come close to obtaining prime political power, explaining that his attitude is that whatever was not his, would not come to him. His words: “Our presidential candidate and by God’s grace our next president, Atiku, in 2019, picked Peter Obi and you saw how the governors revolted, with all kinds of abuses. They said there was no consultation. “Now, he consulted but maybe, some people thought that consultation means take decision on his behalf, no; you never take decision on behalf of the principal. Now, he consulted, again it is a problem. “Maybe, it is the perception that a decision must be taken on his (the presidential candidate’s) behalf. A decision is never taken on behalf of a candidate, you can only advise a candidate. For those who lost out, they have a right to be hurt. If I am one of them, I may be slightly hurt, but I will push it away and say fine, which way forward.” Specifically, the former Kaduna State governor enjoined the Rivers State governor to note that no matter what anybody may have done to malign or insult him, that leaders and even prophets were insulted. Makarfi stated: “So, I am still calling on him and any other person aggrieved to still give peace a chance. I also will fully support that our party, our presidential candidate, in any way possible, should listen to and accommodate not only Governor Wike, but any other aggrieved individual in our party. “We need everybody. We should give it a try, if it works out fine, but if it doesn’t work out, I have told you what my state and I are busy doing, politics is local. Everybody should go home and work to turn our states for PDP.” On claims that the national chairman, Senator Iyorchia Ayu, did not handle the fallout of the presidential primary and presidential running mate selection properly, Makarfi disclosed that the national chairman informed him that he had been talking to all groups. Speaking on the possible negative impact that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso and Mr. Peter Obi’s defection from PDP could have on the party’s electoral fortunes in 2023, Makarfi affirmed that Kwankwaso left due to internal wrangling within the zonal structure of the party. While stressing that the former Kano State governor would still have defected, he remarked, however, that for Obi, his problems were home-based. “For Peter Obi, let him be honest and say who frustrated him out of PDP. That frustration was from home, not from anywhere, not from any other part of this country. “We know him to be a good man, he is qualified, he is humble, he is very friendly, but his problems are home-based. If some people from elsewhere are supporting him, I don’t know, but his problems are home-based.” ALSO, a former presidential aspirant of the party, Chief Dele Momodu, has weighed into the crisis rocking the PDP, saying Wike will not dump the main opposition party. “For me, Wike is a very principled man; if there’s one thing he has been consistent about, it is his love for PDP; I believe he will not leave PDP. He is playing a mind game and he’s good at it. What shall it profit him if he joins APC?” he asked on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily yesterday. According to Momodu, the development in the party following the outcome of the presidential primary has made the governor of Rivers a force to be reckoned with. He stated that the PDP presidential candidate should have a one-on-one meeting with Wike to resolve the crisis rocking the party. Momodu added: “What I would advise Atiku Abubakar to do today is to sit down one-on-one, with no other person present with Wike and agree on deliverables, if possible, sign an agreement. “Wike believes that the party should have respected the zoning principle; number two, he believes that zoning would have favoured a Southern candidate. Three, he believed that of all the Southern aspirants, he is the one that has the capacity to deliver victory to the party. The situation in PDP shows what Wike is in the equation of things in Nigeria as a fantastic performer.” Since the crisis, the PDP Board of Trustees (BOT) has held series of talks to mend fences between Wike and Atiku, but the duo are yet to strike a peace deal. Rather, the camp loyal to Wike is insisting that Ayu should resign his position since he is from the North-Central. AS both Atiku and Wike camps meet for hard talks this week, Ayu, yesterday, declared that he will never resign his position. He made his position known through his media aide, Simon Imobo-Tswam, disclaiming speculations in a section of the media that he had resigned. “We state, with all emphasis, that this story is, in its entirety, false, baseless, reckless, inaccurate and a complete work of fiction. If there is such a resignation, it exists only in the imagination of those who have made themselves available for hatchet jobs. “If Ayu had resigned, he would give his resignation letter to the Deputy Chairman (North); not Senator David Mark. Section 45 (i and ii) of the party’s Constitution is clear on this,” the statement added. According to the statement, “the national chairman is on a crucial assignment to lead PDP on a historic rescue mission, come February 2023 and he will not be deterred or distracted by media terrorism or political blackmail.” Also yesterday, a statement by Paul Ibe, the media adviser to Atiku, revealed that the Waziri Adamawa, on Monday, led chieftains of the party, including former Vice President Namadi Sambo, Okowa, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri and Ayu to receive decampees from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa into the PDP. According to the statement, Ayu who received the new members into the party at the Ribadu Square in Yola, said the rate of defection from APC to PDP is increasing by the day and an indication that the opposition party is waxing stronger. Atiku, who was greeted with euphoria by the crowd at the venue, also welcomed the new members of the party, promising that he will work with them. “I have been serving the people since I joined politics 30 years ago and that is my promise to you all today. I believe that Governor Fintiri has done a good job and that we should join hands to make sure he wins his second term election,” Atiku said. Earlier on arrival at the Yola International Airport, where he was received to a rousing welcome, Atiku had proceeded to the palace of the Lamido Adamawa, Aliyu Musdafa, on a courtesy visit. He was accompanied by Fintiri, his running mate, Okowa, and Ayu. It was the first time the presidential standard bearer will be visiting his home state after the presidential primary. In his remarks at the Lamido’s palace, Atiku said his presentation to the Lamido as the presidential candidate of the PDP gives him a sense of nostalgia because his political career would not have attained this mark but for the prayers and support he enjoys from the Lamido, his palace and the entire state. In his response, the Lamido said that he was pleased and proud to welcome Atiku home after his emergence as the presidential candidate of a major political party. “Your triumph is not just a victory for this Emirate but the country at large as we continue to provide good leadership. I will implore you to use your experience in the task ahead of you. As a detribalised Nigerian, I am confident of your capacity to lead the nation. Your investment in human capital development is a good example of your contribution to the society. I pray that the Almighty remains with you as you strive to become the next president of this country,” he said. MEANWHILE, Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, has accused some elders of ganging up against him, because they did not scale through the primary to be the governorship candidate of PDP in the state. The governor explained that some of them, on his 2021 birthday, had indicated interest to fly the party’s ticket, but failed at their bid and are now in Abuja plotting against him. Wike spoke on Monday during the 74th birthday reception organised to honour the former governor of Rivers, Dr. Peter Odili, at the private residence built and donated to him by the state government in Old Government Residential Area, Port Harcourt. Wike said those elders came to him on their own accord and showed a commitment that they would stay to see through what they came to convince him about. “On my last birthday, at 12:00 midnight, one of our elders called me that they wanted to see me. They came to me and said they came to wish me happy birthday. Then, they presented me a letter that I should run for president. All of them including Dr. Abiye (Sekibo) signed the document. “I said okay, you people too should go and give me someone who will be governor after me. They all sat there, looking left and right. I asked them, those of you who are interested to be governor should raise your hands. Everybody raised his hand. One person didn’t raise his hand, Senator Bari Mpigi. I asked why he was not interested, he replied, sir, let me hold what God has given me. I don’t want to lose the two.” Wike noted that the elders also signed to a document that they would abide by whatever became the outcome of the governorship primary. But the governor expressed regrets that since they were not successful, they have turned around now to allege that he was pursuing a third term bid. “I am not an ungrateful person and I will never be ungrateful in my life. What’s important is that I have done well as a governor. I am happy and I am leaving office a happy man.” The Rivers governor recalled that when Odili was to run for the office of the president, he had a large crowd following, happily. But noted that when the issue of governorship of Rivers was to be decided and he did not give those who wanted it, they all left him, ran to Abuja to thwart his presidential ambition. Wike, however, said he has been holding on to the advice of Odili, hence he was not surprised at the turn of events and the outcome of the PDP presidential primary. In his response, Odili said himself and his wife, Hon. Justice Mary Odili (retired), were overwhelmed by the birthday gift, courtesy of the state government. Odili explained that during his tenure as governor, Wike was the best performing council chairman in the state. |
Makarfi seeks accommodation for Wike. Senator Ahmed Makarfi, a former governor of Kaduna State and the former chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has advocated for governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State and other resentful PDP members at the federal and state levels. Insisting that the party is still free of religious and ethnic tinge, he cautioned the party against approaching the general elections in a way that gives the impression that it is divided. In order to win in 2023, Makarfi, the PDP governor of Kaduna State from 1999 to 2007, advised the party leadership to stick together and conquer the current obstacle. Makarfi shared his opinions with The Nation, saying that all hands should be on deck to ensure that the party forms the federal government in 2023. He also refuted claims that the Labour Party would be a threat in the upcoming elections. He predicted that his party and the All Progressive Congress Pparty would square off in the 2023 presidential elections (APC). He stated that the Labour Party and Peter Obi, its candidate, are merely enjoying the ecstasy of the present. In the case of a deadlock, Makarfi further cautioned that Nigeria cannot afford a run-off presidential election because it would be too perilous for the nation given the current ethnic and religious conflicts in the political arena. Whatever you say about the Labour Party, there is enthusiasm about it, but you know it will never have the national vote spread and in terms of numbers it will never even finish second. Even if elections were to be stretched into a runoff, it would inevitably be between the APC and PDP. With the current circumstances, can the nation survive a runoff? It is dangerous.

Kaduna: Bandits gaining ground, will soon take over state- Residents August 6, 2022 Kaduna residents on Saturday raised an alarm over the increasing wave of armed bandits attack in the state and it’s environs. According to them, with the speed at which the bandits are gaining ground, they will soon announce one of their leaders as state governor. Musa Abilewa, former Chief Security Officer to Kauru LGA, said bandits have more sophisticated weapons than security operatives. He said by the time they announce their governor, El-Rufai may quit as Kaduna governor because when the superior power of bandits, hit the military or any other security operatives, they will all run to safety. The residents called for security presence in communities rather than in the city, since most of the attacks happen in villages and communities, saying that some bandits used unavailable security in those communities to terrorize, kidnap, and rape residents in the area. Bury the hatchet, support Atiku, Makarfi urges PDP stakeholders July 14, 2022 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, has called on leaders and other PDP stakeholders to bury their differences and support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and former Governor of Kaduna State, Sen. Ahmed Makarfi, has called on leaders and other PDP stakeholders to bury their differences and support the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to wrest power from the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2023. Makarfi told The Guardian, in an interview, yesterday, that all the bickering in the party following the endorsement of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State as Atiku’s running mate must be resolved, while effort should be made to appease Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State. He said: “No doubt, the selection of a running mate to Atiku is now so controversial, as some people rooted for Wike. “Since I was not part of the selection process, I don’t know much about deliberations. But whatever it is, many of us know that Wike is a very strong pillar of the party and I know that he can contribute immensely to the party in the 2023 elections, as he has been contributing for the success of the party.” Noting that only Atiku could explain the choice of Okowa over Wike, he added: “I don’t blame him (Wike) for feeling pained. My own take here is, let us meet him one-on-one and resolve the matter in a manner that Wike will be comfortable. This will make electoral victory a much easier thing. “On the day of election, everybody will go back to his own state. Rivers is a big state and they can vote massively for PDP. Such applies to many other states. My own is a call to him, no matter what might have happened, to sit down with the presidential candidate personally and resolve this problem. The two of them should sit down and talk to each other.” On the outcome the PDP presidential primary, the former PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman said: “Anytime there is an election, somebody will win and others will lose.”

Former Kaduna gov, Makarfi, says Wike’s anger against Atiku justified July 1, 2022 factionalisations within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) due to the choice of running mate by its presidential flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar, has led to various stakeholders appealing for peace. A former Governor of Kaduna State, Ahmed Makarfi, has waded into the discourse, noting that the displeasure of Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Governor, over being overlooked for the position was justified. The national working committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had reportedly endorsed Wike as the vice-presidential candidate, but Atiku later picked Ifeanyi Okowa, governor of Delta. Speaking to journalists on Thursday in Kaduna, Makarfi suggested that Atiku and Wike get down and discuss the circumstances that led to the selection of Okowa. “I won’t blame Wike for feeling bad because he has been one of the pillars of the party,” the former governor said. “Let the presidential candidate, Atiku, sit down with Wike to discuss issues because he is the only one that knows why he picked his running mate. The matter is resolvable. “As long as elections will be held in 2023, PDP will win, but we need to work hard for us to win in 2023. PDP is set to bring true democracy back to Nigeria and we have learnt our lessons,” Makarfi added. He also debunked rumours of a defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC). “Honestly, I am hearing this for the first time that I am defecting from PDP to APC and I don’t know what can be the basis. Why should I make an investment in terms of time and whatever you can mention in PDP and now decide to leave?” Makarfi asked. “Why should I go through the stress and just when we are getting it right, then I now leave the PDP for APC or any other party? “What will be the attraction for me to leave the PDP? Well, people don’t approach me with such a rumor because they know the type of person that I am. “If they want to come, they come to me with substance. What could be the basis? In every rumour there must be a basis. Is it because members of the opposition party attended my son’s wedding and that is the basis of that rumour?” Join the conversation Support Ripples Nigeria, hold up solutions journalism Balanced, fearless journalism driven by data comes at huge financial costs. Kaduna2023: El-rufai too weak to handle security's issue –Isa Rabiu www.nairaland.com June 18,2022 A Peoples democratic Party member and also online media researcher, Isa Rabiu has blamed the Kaduna state Government for the incessant insecurity situation ravaging the entire Kaduna State, saying that its too weak to control the ugly situation for the state. The PDP member explained that the Kaduna Government has the constitutional responsibility of securing the lives and properties of its citizens, pointing out that APC government have no moral tactics to control the security challenges within the state. In an interview with daily news planet in Kaduna State capital, Isa Rabiu noted that the insecurity situation in the state calls for public attention and a well-coordinated security network within the 23 local government. “The situation has become worse and unbearable as people can no longer sleep with their two eyes close because of the terror attacks everywhere in the state,” he said. “Many people especially the strangers have relocated from the State because of the worsening insecurity situation, making commerce go down drastically beyond human imagination. “But we cannot run away from the reality and the truth remains that both the federal and state governments should be blamed for the constant loss of lives and properties in the state. The people are living as if there no government to control the ugly barbaric situation.” Isa lamented that Kaduna residents are faced with the pressing issue of insecurity as armed bandits and kidnappers have placed it as one of the most unsecured parts of the country with devastating effects on the people. Speaking further, he said that thousands of locals have fled their homes, taking refuge in neighbouring states to live under unfavourable conditions, stressing that the situation has forced farmers, especially in the rural areas to abandon their farmlands and homes for an uncertain life in the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps. “These monstrous insecurity situation has affected virtually all the sectors of life, therefore, our priorities have been set by the circumstances on ground,” he said. According to him, the number of people being killed on a daily basis in Kaduna State surpassed the number of people being killed by Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast states put together. Isa lamented that the protracted insecurity situation has resulted to the total collapse of agriculture which he said had been the mainstay of the State’s economy. He pointed out that it is embarrassing for a state that prised itself in agriculture and agro-industrial crops to be now a beggar state at the mercy of hunger and starvation due to the resultant effects of banditry. The PDP member noted that since the terror attacks started in the state over a decade ago, none of the claimed arrested bandits has been prosecuted to prove the government’s sincerity of purpose and commitment to addressing the ugly trend. He however expressed fear that in Kaduna State, the 2023 general elections may be full of irregularities and inconclusive in some rural areas where the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) may not be able to cover as a result of insecurity and PDP will not, cannot tolerate that. Isa Rabiu noted that security experts have in the past proffered meaningful suggestions during PDP government in the past on how to end the dastardly acts but the APC government threw the suggestions into another waste bin, rather than making empty propaganda on how it is dealing with the criminal elements, yet the bandits are waxing stronger. He advised the security chiefs in the state to as a matter of fact design a formidable strategy and find out whether these bandits are operating on their own and whether there are unseen hands responsible for all these dastard acts in the State. He further stated that banditry have made thousands of women widows, thousands of children orphans and thousands of men widowers in the state, urging both the federal and state governments to wake up from their slumbers and do the needful. “If the bandits kill and abduct everyone in Kaduna State, who will elect the politicians that are running away from their state because of insecurity?” he said. |

El-Rufai’s anointment of Uba Sani is dictatorial, says Shaaban May 12,2022 A governorship aspirant from Kaduna State in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Sani Mahmoud Shaaban, has said the decision of Governor Ahmad Nasir el-Rufai to anoint the senator representing Kaduna North, Uba Sani, as his preferred successor, was against democratic tenets. Kano State Governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and his anointed candidate, Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, have submitted their expression of interest and nomination forms for the governorship of the state and Kano North Senatorial District seat. Speaking with reporters in Abuja after submitting his nomination forms, Shaaban said Governor El-Rufai’s action was a clear case of dictatorship, insisting that the governor got it wrong and ran contrary to democratic tenets and laid down rules. “Do we have anything called anointment in the history or dictates of APC as a party? APC is a democratic party. Today, APC is the ruling party at the national level. Today, APC is the ruling party in Kaduna State. So, for anybody to say this is what I want, due to whatever position such an individual occupies, and then deny more than three million eligible registered voters the right to vote, can’t be proper and acceptable. We don’t call that democracy. “Democracy is to come out and meet the basic requirements the party lays down and goes out to do. I can assure you in Kaduna State, there is nothing called anointment. “Everyone is willing and ready for a free and fair primary election and we believe the leadership of APC at the national level. We believe the capacity and the capability of President Muhammadu Buhari will not allow dictatorship of any individual,” he said. Former Deputy Governor of Kano State Abdullahi Tijjani Gwarzo, who submitted the forms on their behalf, hailed Ganduje over the choice of Gawuna, saying it was in tandem with the wishes of party stakeholders in Kano State. Flanked by the state Commissioner for Information, Mohammed Garba, the former deputy governor said Ganduje deserved the senatorial seat, having served Kano State meritoriously in the last seven years. |

Military Plane Crash: PDP demands independent judicial inquiry April 20,2022 The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded an independent judicial enquiry into the crash of a military plane belonging to the Nigerian Airforce (NAF) in Kaduna on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, with officers reportedly killed in the incident. The PDP in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, Wednesday pointed to the growing public apprehension of possible security compromises. It alleged the complicity of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in the incessant unexplained military aircraft crashes in the country in the last seven years. PDP described it as disturbing that after each crash, the APC government comes up with a public announcement to investigate the circumstances surrounding the mishap but typical of the administration, such investigations go cold. The statement partly read, “this pattern gives credence to the strong suspicion among Nigerians that there is complicity or sabotage in our national security architecture including the Airforce which is very critical to any meaningful fight against terrorism. “In May last year, just eleven months ago, a NAF aircraft crashed around Kaduna International Airport, killing the then Chief of Army Staff, Ibrahim Attahiru and 10 other officers. “It is instructive to note that our nation has experienced no fewer than 11 unexplained military air crashes since the Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government took over power in 2015. “The PDP demands a system-wide independent judicial enquiry to conduct an investigation into the remote and immediate causes of these incessant crashes of our military aircraft, especially in the face of worsening terrorism attacks in our country”. The party explained that their demand is imperative and consistent with the demands of Nigerians who have lost faith in the ability of the APC government to conduct a transparent and credible investigation into any matter, particularly those relating to national security. PDP said it is saddened by this trend of events and condoles with the Nigerian Airforce, the families of the officers involved in the air crash and prays for the repose of the souls of the departed officers. “The PDP salutes our courageous military officers and charges them not to be deterred by this very sad and unfortunate incident but to remain vigilant and focused on their constitutional duty of protecting our nation, especially at this critical point in our national life, the statement added.
