I know about a dozen people who did law at OAU/Ile Ife. They're all doing fine. Gainfully employed, on the bench, all that. I can't say which schools are better, but I'm likely to stick with the older more established schools if you have a lot of options. That's just me though.

Good luck.

So, is this the Petition to remove AljHarem?  Or the Petition to see if there should be a Petition?

Either way, I vote *.

PoliticsRe: Self-confessed Witch Escapes Lynching by isalegan2: 8:26pm On Jan 19, 2011
No offence to the poster, but this story is a. . .

Crock of s#*t. Click the link and look at the picture of "the witch." It's a guy.

Even without doing that, you can tell the whole story lacks objectivity and the incident, if it happened, is not believable at retold here. Disgraceful. If the writer is the same Patience Ogbo that wrote "The Shanty Boy," no wonder no one can get her to follow up on the little boy and give us updates. Really poor "journalism."

Yes, I'm also curious why it disappeared. Wikileakin was harmless. sad  I replied a post - and it was no big deal btw - then checked it 2 or 3 hours later because of reply notification, but the thread was gone.  embarassed  huh

cap28:
I think its great for Stacie to have been reunited with her igbo father back in nigeria however i do not think he had any right to expect her to undergo another igbo marriage ceremony or expect her husband to pay a bride price to him - what for? He did not raise, nurture or expend anything on her upbringing, from what i read her adoptive parents raised and nurtured her, as far as im concerned all credit should go to her late adoptive parents for making her what she is today, and if any money needs to be paid it should have been to those people not the nigerian sperm donor. He needs to maintain a low profile (he seems to have managed it for 42 years) and just politely keep up a friendly relationship but not expect that she owes him anything because she doesnt.
As far as saying that her marriage won't be recognised in her father's hometown - who cares - she doesnt live there, doesnt understand the culture or the language and up until a few months ago no-one in that village even knew she existed so i dont see why it should matter now.

I just watched a clip of the show and she comes across as very down to earth and likeable, I can understand her hunger to want to know her biological parents, the fact that her white birth mother rejected her must have beena blow and this is probably why she focused on finding out who her biological father is.

I have a mixed race relative who was also rejected by his white birth mother (he was brought up by his nigerian father, the couple never married) he traced the woman to spain when he was 21 and she had remarried with children from her white husband, when he turned up on her doorstep she went into a panic becuase her husband did not know that she had a grown up mixed race son, she made it clear to him that she does not want anything to do with him, he was shattered by that experience.

I can imagine that Stacie must have felt similarly however her vulnerability and need to feel she belongs somewhere should not be abused by her father who might see her as a meal ticket, i think she should keep her biological father's family at arms lenght if she cherishes her sanity. They are from two different worlds and aside from the fact that they are related by blood do not really have anything else in common.

I watched a clip of her on youtube - she seems very down to earth and likeable, one thing i dont understand though is why she is the only black woman on the show seeing as DC is known as chocolate city.

Some bite in that!  hahahaha. What are they feeding you all over there in England?  Something in the water? grin  You do know that your old buddy, Saggy, agrees with you.  Would you like to revise your statement, counsellor?  I'm just kidding.  I blame UK for this.  Anyway, I'm not up for more discussion about this today.  I already made a number of posts earlier.  You can check to see why I differ in my opinion about this whole Stacie and dad reunion story.

Hope you're having a good year so far.
Niger Republic maybe, but not Nigeria. We love life too much (not that there is anything wrong with that).
That is something.  I don't remember ever hearing of middle easterners setting themselves on fire.

Self-immolation is something usually associated with people from the Inidian subcontinent, no?  It happened quite a bit in Pakistan a couple of decades ago, if I remeber correctly.

Anyway, Mubarak is a despot.  If the USA loves democracy so much, stop propping up this guy. Egyptians don't want him.  He's been there for too long.  So much hypocrisy!

Is it being organized by the Muslim Brotherhood or it's just frustrated individuals?  That's just not something you can arrange as a group effort, is it?.  Sheesh
Unfortunately there is no way Nigerians-living-abroad can vote in this 2011 election. They fought the good fight very early and lost.

I agree with calling the embassy for updates, even if it's just to be a pest. Afterall, they do little to no work anyway, working for 4 hours/day and closing shop before lunch and shyyte undecided

IMO, The whole house of Assembly is guilty, except for a few representatives like Abike Dabiri (Lagos, ACN). They all failed to do their job.

Reasons  given:
Isale_gan, you probably know a lot about the US voting process, is it all Electronic?

Don't they have write in candidates and mail-in/manual voting?

Soldiers stationed outside the country vote, don't they?

Civilians in some States can choose to mail in their vote, right?

Also, note that Nigerians-abroad are expected to register and renew passports manually and through the mail, ain't they?

They send those document manually don't they? and recently they even had to travel to hub cities in their various countries to get the new e-passports, right?

So, you can see that the arguement used by that cluless chop-till-i-quench looter is just that; clueless.

Other countries:

Filipinos-abroad voted in their election; http://news.feetintwoworlds.org/2010/05/05/immigrant-filipinos-pray-for-peaceful-elections/

As I mentioned earlier Guineans voted: http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/2010/11/05/far-from-home-guineans-cast-their-vote/

There are several others, I used those countries as examples because one(Philipines) is a highly populated country with similar political issues as Nigeria and a very large diapora population. The other is a "poor" African country.

I see no reason why my representatives failed to do it,  except for their cluelessness and incompetence.

Isale, that is why we need folks like you to come back to Naija and put your knowledge to work, contest for office and chase these laggards out, we will ask Fstranger for permission cheesy

Don't ask me about my own efforts, I'm an internet warrior! a la Pat Utomi. (someone's gotta fight the cyber wars)    wink
Brother Kilode,

Everything you said is true.

I know the 2011 election is too late, but we're hopeful for future ones.

Yes, the voting process here is "luxurious" (as is almost everything else) when compared to what our people have to go through. Of course, I have no plans to take US citizenship.  I know dual citizenship is common.  BTW, I am looking at enrolling in a remote learning situation at a Nigerian university to pursue some coursework that will increase my knowledge of Naija political history.  I'm not totally ignorant, but I don't know to the level I'd like.  Plus some other things in the works.

I hear you about coming home.  If you read my posts, you'll see it's in my plan.  I certainly never planned to be here this long.  But outiside pressures contributed to that.  And time flies.  I'm not complaining.  Things happen for a reason, I suppose.
But participating in the Nigeria legislature or judiciary is a life goal, so no worries.  In fact, I've encouraged a number of people to join the bar.  I can't say too much.  lipsrsealed

And, an internet warrior is still a warrior.  Possibly the most potent we have now, in this age of, what? The Internet. smiley

owobokiri:
Most of you claim to be Africans but it is obvious that some do not have any primary  understanding or respect of/for African culture. Is it not interesting that the whole cultural immersion this beutifull lady will witness with this event has been neglected as those who beielve that Igbos love money more than anything endlessly hamper on the monetary part of the festivities? How much is a bride price in some parts of igboland? I hear that in some areas it is as low as 500 naira! That is less than 5 dollars!!! Why the hate then? Must we intellectualize every issue? As an African I am emberrassed by the needless hate displayed whenever this kind of issue is being dicussed. She wanted to meet her father but now she will also meet the culture of her fathers people. Culture respects no person, , on the contrary, people respect culture, now she will know and I am sure from what she has said that she is enjoying every bit of it.  The way I see it, this is more of an "inyanga" from the biological dad and you and I dont know what made him loose touch with his daughter so we cant say he shouldnt be doing so. Maybe he is doing all these out of happiness , in which case he might even be the one to shoulder the burden that comes with the marriage ceremony, so why the rush to neblous conclusions?  I wouldnt be surprised if the lady will TOTALLY enjoy every bit of the traditional marriage ceremony since the cultural displays will be new to her and she will not do so again in her life. We should be happy with the dad for embracing her immediately , afterall her white mother insisted on being left alone. No matter whatever happened in the past, this man is happy to meet his daughter. That is good. What if he rejected her like the mother?.
Great post.  Thank you.
My sister, Nigerians living abroad cannot vote in this election and it was not for lack of trying, check the links below.

Nigerians abroad petitioned and pushed INEC + the PDP House of assembly to make voting possible but they REFUSED to budge, see link below;
http://allafrica.com/stories/200901190612.html

Nigerians abroad took the case to court and won, see link and quote below:

http://trendyafrica.com/2009/02/03/house-applauds-voting-by-nigerians-in-diaspora/

Still, the PDP led house of Assembly refused to do the needful since 2009  shocked  They gave silly excuses about funds and time, see link below;

http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5561438-146/nigerians_in_diaspora_wont_vote_in.csp

Whereas, Guineans living abroad voted in their own elections.

Our own Representatives only care about their $1.7million/N255,000,000/year salary they don't care about us.

Do not forget, the same Nigerian-abroad is expected to travel long distances to register for new E-passports, but we can't organize common voting processes for her. The same citizens who remit billions back to the Nigerian economy every year?!
It was also discussed here, but no new updates: https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria?topic=225044.msg7453827#msg7453827

This has been of greater concern to me at this election more than any other.  Talked to my dad about it the other day.  He suggests continuing to harangue the Nigerian embassies and consulates wherever we are.  Even if it's just to call and ask them for updates, or the same questions all the time.  "How far with the legislation?" "Who's holding it up?" "For what reason," "What about the other countries," etc.

The Nigerian Consulate in my area is so close it's actually walking distance.  Gonna be on a first name basis. . .    wink

Stacie is Igbo, because her father is.  Simple.  And her birth mother doesn't want her and won't acknowledge her anyway.
