UrennaNkoli:Nonsense! What is their crime? I see nothing in the write-up pointing to any ILLEGAL ACTIVITY. What is the charge against them? Whatthefuck is "Cultism"? Before long, they'll be attacking and burning innocent people again without specifying what they did wrong. "14 suspects (adolescents) were undergoing questioning" for possessing paraphernalia deemed related to some unnamed cults? "Notorious Cult Groups" that do what? Kill people? Rob people? Play violent video games? Believe differently from the busybodies that went and reported to the jobless policemen? They don't have any more crimes in that town, huh? Rubbish paranoia!Fraternities and sororities are part and parcel of American universities, by the way. Though they never interested me. They're not illegal. |

I really enjoyed reading the posts. I appreciate your time and dedication to share your knowledge. And doing so with maturity, despite negative feedback and outright insults often thrown your way. Even if I do not share your views on something, I can still give you credit for your effort. There is so much. . . here. lol. One thing I have run across, but not often, is the belief amongst some segment of American Muslims who say that Wallace Fard is God. I think this is fundamentally a problem. Few Muslims will even consider anything you say after equating anyone/thing with Allah. I'm not even sure Fard himself made such a claim. The man was obviously very inspired and did some wonderful things with Elijah Muhammed, but most assuredly any discussant (amongst Muslims) claiming he is God will run into an obstacle. About Bilal, I can see where this man may have also inspired Prophet Muhammed, and I will keep learning more about him. gatiano:Okay. Good point. Bilal was undoubtedly very close to the Prophet. Of course, once the Prophet passed away, Bilal had to deal with the Sahabahs and the other Muslims. Anything is possible, and we can't blame Prophet Muhammad for any of the behaviours of his survivors. Interesting viewpoint. gatiano:Never heard of Musaylimat until now. I searched for info on him and. . .it is very interesting. So, while he was switching the Qur'an, what were Abu Bakr, Umar and all the others doing? ![]() 26.So Abu Bakr helped him? What of the widow, Aisha, etc.?After dethroning and murdering Ali, Bilal refused to obey the lies perpertrated by these people, Thus you get the reason why he is made to look like a slave, and his name removed from most of the texts. The fact that He was the first to make the "call to prayer" was the reason why he isn't completely forgotten amongst other crucial duties which would be discussed further. You have a point there. The fact he was able to be the "First Muezzin" shows he had clout, at least while Prophet Muhammad was still alive. This reminds me of the story of one of the first Black Mormons. I recently read some history of their founder Joseph Smith, and about what happened after his death - his successors proceeded to strip powers and Latter Day Church membership from an Black American man who had been a loyal and visionary leader in their early days. Simply because the man stood his ground and refused to be treated like a sub-human by the LDS hierarchy. gatiano:Thank you for taking the time. Interesting information, and definitely a unique viewpoint in many aspects. Quite divergent from the "mainstream." It should just lead to a lively and spirited debate. gatiano:-Sister Isalegangan |
JackBizzle:You need to separate Arab from Islam/Qur'an. The Arabs had slaves, but Islam rejects slavery, burial of live female children, and other atrocities practiced by Arabs (at the time). These are the things Prophet Muhammed preached against and was persecuted for, by his own people. Muhammed, the Qur'an, Muslims, are not responsible for slavery or for Arabs' long-held tradition. Muhammed himself was against tribalism and racism, and fought against his own people's ignorance for decades, and his successors continued to fight for centuries afterwards. Learn that! The Bible (version that I've read) tells slaves to obey their owners/masters and not fight for their freedom. Instead, they are to wait for freedom in the "next life," after they're already dead. Of course, reformers dismiss that, and it didn't stop Martin Luther King, Jr., from becoming one of the greatest Christian freedom-fighters ever. To some, it is about interpretation. People pick and choose different passages to justify their evil deeds, including enslavement and other injustice. Ultimately, the goal is for Africans to put their Africanness before any foreign beliefs that seek to oppress them, debase their humanity or devalue their contribution to the world. Amin Ashe! |
phemmyutd:So, if voting was postponed since July 2014, did they eventually have one? How is she still president of the group? You mean Mrs. Jonathan has delayed the process until now? |

gatiano:I'm learning. lol. I really know very little about Bilal, so I don't see any correcting in the offing at this time. (May not be back until tomorrow. Thanks again.)cc: lagosshia . . . because I did not know Bilal was Shia (per Wikipedia), and not sure if he is considered Shia by most. ![]() <Reading thread> |

Remembering him. Especially with all these news about Adebayor and his family. https://www.nairaland.com/2307109/yekinis-family-members-still-fighting#33625387 https://www.nairaland.com/930325/rashidi-yekini-dead/2 |
Brother Gatiano, Thank you for this. I know I asked for the thread, but I was too slow in creating it. I didn't realise until now that you already did. Since Sunday, May 10? My apologies. Thank you. Shukran! I will read the whole thread, but I wanted to quickly summarise my limited knowledge of Bilal before I asked you for the thread. I knew he was a Black or African man who may have been a slave, who liked the teachings of The Prophet (SAW), was a loyal companion and Muslim, and most verifiably, was the first Muezzin - making the call to prayer for the believers/followers in Mecca/Medina. Then some years ago, an African-American acquaintance who was also a Muslim made some comments which I dismissed as another one of the many claims of White Jesus this. . .Black Cleopatra or Queen of Sheeba that. . .type movements. Essentially, she gave Bilal credit for the Islamic Prayer( Adhan and Salat). The story she told me was, Bilal was a Black African man in Arabia, praying to his God/gods in his African way; the Prophet (SWT) liked the sounds of it and asked Bilal to recite his prayer (Adhan) again for him to hear and the movements/postures (Salat), which were all incorporated into the 5 daily prayers Muslims do. I'm sure she had a lot more to say, but we never had the chance again and I really wasn't buying it at the time. But over time, I've wondered about it, and have always wanted to delve deeper into Bilal's true contribution to Islam. After I made my request to you, before I created the thread, I went to do a little research (Wikipedia only. lol.) and found that (1) Bilal is considered by some to be a Shia(?) because he was one of the Sahabahs who refused to pledge for Abu Bakr. (2) some of his descendants settled in Mali and are the family called Keita(?).I'll read your posts now, and come back to participate when time permits. Salam. |
kakakibuy:What are costs associated with clearing? Is it based on declared value of product shipped? Approximate range for this vehicle, if know, please and thanks. |
cbrass:Not necessary. He knows it was there. I just want to know how it got to home page. |
SEUN, How did a thread on bestiality, complete with picture, get on the Nairaland homepage? It was at page 10 when I saw it around late afternoon/evening of Sunday, May 10. And I did not have to be logged in to view it. I await your response. |
Murder. Involuntary maybe. But, it ended in murder. Not to talk of the iron-clad kidnapping and false imprisonment leading up to it. Tragic. Someone should be in prison! |
gatiano:Brother Gatiano, I'd like to talk about The First Muezzin, Bilal. Curious about what you know or believe about him. Let me know if it's alright to make a thread in the Islam section or elsewhere. Much obliged. |
Nowenuse:Hard to pick one - at the moment. My most admired or influential wouldn't be any of your three. But, amongst your 3, I am most interested in the potter, Mrs. Kwali. I hadn't heard much about her so far. I like your initiative. Nice topic for discussion, OP. I hope you won't be offended by a little honest assessment. (Of course, you don't need anyone's opinion; only because of so much You overreached a little when you described it as "a very realistic list." Whose realism? Whose objective research? What criteria? You also limited it to women who all lived in the same century. Maybe going back a little in time would have enlightened some and broadened the history to show women were doing great things before colonisation. Ultimately, I see it is a good thread of "Nowenuse's 3 most admired women." Overall, A2. ![]() Women Rule; Black Girls Rock! Thanks for playing. ![]() |

MrCork:MrCork making sense in his own way. Very bad things indeed. Hunger is painful o. That's what we learn during Ramadan. Help a brother out. No one should have to go hungry. I could never support prosecution of someone for stealing food to eat. As long as it's just for them and their children and not for resale. Hand them over. What's with the "torture" in the story? |
