ojesymsym: Guys, for those who can attend the annual Nigeria Energy Conference is starting today at Landmark Hotel, VI Lagos. It is usually an opportunity to meet directly with suppliers, learn what the new trends in technology are, meet international suppliers who also come to the conference yearly, and also know the direction of government policy with regard to renewable energy.
I could have posted the link to access it but I am not in any mood for one BOT to disrespectfully ban me, so I suggest you google "Nigeria Energy Conference" and preregister to attend if it is something that ticks your fancy.
Those who attend can also share with us whatever new innovations are in the pipeline so that we can as solar enthusiasts position ourselves to be at the forefront of implementation. Please, we need update on new innovations as I'm working on community solar project. |

jonescosmos: Nigeria and their haphazard way of doing things. Last year, the same event took place at the same venue. This year it's here again at the same venue. With little or no publication or adverts, how do people outside Lagos participate? For Example, I can count myself among the first 100 Nigerians who are glued to the news. I didn't come across this except that you have just mentioned it here.
Why won't we emulate other countries in things like this?
For example take a look at MikroTik User Meeting https://mum.mikrotik.com/
this is just one out of many international events. Then our own local events, we can't even rotate it around Nigerian States. What a shame. This is Nigeria and our things are always done in a peculiar way. Just like every other sectors, it will take us years to meet up with other countries in energy sector. |

Cutezt: What i meant is that if the batteries are charged, even if it is halfway, i can use it for the entire day, i usually turn it off at night as i dont need light for anything as i sleep, but that's usually very late, maybe 1 or 2am. It takes me from the previous day till the next day, if there is not enough sunlight on that day, it goes to around 23v and i usually turn it off that time. so in summary, if charged anywhere around 25% with Light, then it takes me around 20 hours with 4-5 hours of sunlight. I'm just wondering how long you'll continue to turn off your system late at night and what will happen the day you'll sleep off. Adding pv to get your battery to daily float is good but that will not solve this problem. I suggest you work on your night loads and allow the system to run by itself.... When I was using tubular batteries in off-grid system, I managed loads and made sure my consumption at night doesn't go beyond 30% especially in raining seasons and it was very easy for me to refill my battery before evening the following day. I used them for two years and sold out, I was babysitting the batteries as I was hoping to use them for the next 5 years. Today with lifepo4 battery, I'm still waking up the following day with 30% energy consumption, even with my 1hp AC running all through the night and before 12 noon, my battery is fully charged. |

Again, I tested Felicity panel 350w few days ago at about 10:30am with multimeter and I got 297w which is about 85% of the stated capacity. I'm sure it would produce more on a good sunny day. |

I've seen some videos telling us that 5kva 48v Felicity Hybrid Inverter (Ivem5048) consume less than 40w on idle mode. I carried out the test on mine by shutting down everything in my house, leaving only the inverter on and my Victron BMV 712 recorded 72w. I've also used clamp meter to take the amps reading of the cable and multiply with the voltage and I got the same 72w. I've concluded that Felicity Ivem5048 consumed 72w on idle mode. |

earthrealm: do you use/ever used lithium pack? what would cause thermal runaway in a properly setup lithium pack? Boss, he is asking to learn...... Properly set-up lithium pack will not have thermal runaway. Thermal runaway is caused by either unmatched cell or wrong connection. |

Dam5reey: Why not?
If a device is rated for 5kw continuous, then it capable of doing 5kw continuous, that's why Inbuilt Fans are there!
What's the essence of buying 5kw inverter to load it 1kw? I don't even know how real the loads % of an inverter is, though the reading is based on the capacity of load applied. I loaded 1hp AC with few house loads on my 5kva inverter and I saw about 21% and when I added 1.5hp AC, I saw 31%. |

DIY should fit the budget 7m? Lol Truly renewable energy is no longer for the poor. Is even hard for an average Nigerians too. Good luck to those that installed their systems at affordable price. |

Everybody can't afford Jinko, Ja, Canadian, Long, and Era panel. This is just the simple truth. Whether we agree or not, there are other good tier 2 panels that the output is good, though may not be like tier 1. I've 4.05kw Era pv and the performance has been very impressive. This time, I just want to test Felicity pv and give the house review. |

zeestone99: It's better to buy 2 unit 450w tier 1 than to use the same amount to buy 4 units tier 3 panels. Thank me later. Solar project is beyond decorating your roof with panels. It also depends on what individuals want to achieve. I decided to cut cost by going for 2 pcs of 350w Felicity panels instead of tier 1 panels. All the power the panels will generate will be channelled to charging of 12v 280ah battery bank only and nothing else. The stored energy in the battery is to be used only during the night to power minor loads and the discharge rate will still be based on what the pv will be able to put back the following day during the sun hours. There is a bigger system that work during the day. Management course is what most of us are doing now. |

conyema12: I have this one in mind. What if i add a charge controller so it can manage the charging for me This company is really making ways here in terms of market strategy, flexibility and price of it products, even at perceived over stated capacity of lifepo4 batteries. Would it be possible if the productions base was in Nigeria considering the high exchange rate fluctuation? I guess the current exchange rate doesn't really affect it much as the productions are not done in Nigeria. I also believe making productions in the neighboring countries where the currency rate is more stable and ship them down to Nigerian market makes more sense now. Nigerian youths are very creative and majority of them are not depending on Government for white collar jobs/survival. All they're asking for is an enabling environment for their business to drive and I strongly believe this is not too difficult for government to do. SUBMISSION: Hope is not lost |

Justice629: The terminals design on the Canadian Solar panels didn't match that from the Canadian website for same stated model. The frame was also resprayed and the name plate sticking was not neatly done while the Era checked all boxes.
All panels will be replaced next week with JA SOLAR 455w bifacial.
The 70w consumption isn't idle power but when load is less than 500w. My system is never idle though it's idle power is 40w and with energy saving on it drops to 20w. That's very good..... Knock on my Uyo door via johnsbright92@yahoo.ca when you're ready to release the Era pv. |
