I've represented people sitting awaiting trial for 3-5yrs. On one occasion I represented someone awaiting trial for almost 7yrs. And what was this case about? Drugs and murder of which not even a gram could be directly linked to him. He wasn't caught on wire taps,nor could he be directly placed at the scene of any of the murders. But, his "trusted" Lieutenants in his organization ratted him out. He ended up pleading guilty and getting sentenced to Life in Prison without the possibility of parole ; which he viewed as a win because he was initially facing the death penalty.

Mr Metuh and co are worse than the man I referenced above.

Well, I do not know that he has been charged to court or not, so I can't comment on that. My comment was on handling Pre-Trial detainees. It's unfortunate that most of you responding to my post negatively come across as poorly educated because it seems comprehension is a serious problem. This issue also seems to have been exacerbated by hate and intolerance.

As to your second question, yes, we do leak info on ongoing investigations. We also make the accused suspects do "Pep walks" where we secretly/anonymously "brief" the press to "stop by" and have the accused look into their cameras while his hands are cuffed behind his back as he's being marched into court.

Don't worry, you guys are learning. You'll get it soon, in due time.

Why should the EFCC arrest and detain a suspect and then start searching for the appropriate offence to charge him for while the suspect rots away in detention....Is that how they go about it in YOUR STATES

At times I have to wonder if some of you are mischievous or just insane. It might be the fact that up till this day most of your homes are still painted with lead? Perhaps lack of folic acid during pregnancy? Or maybe just something as simple as not having consumed enough milk while growing up? Those things do stunt mental growth,you know?

My gripe was with how the Nigerian System handles pretrial detainees. That's why most of their cases get screwed up; allowing them cell phones and access to all kinds of visitors and outside communication. EVEN IN COURT, You see them with cell phones and holding forte like mob bosses surrounded by their friends, family and hanger ons.

When you are in Government custody, you should be properly controlled lest the case gets jeopardized through intermediaries --- as is happening now as we can see from the above article. This is not a comic show, this is serious business--- these are the people accused of bringing the most influential black nation on earth to its knees through corruption, greed, nepotism and neglect of the Constitution which they swore to protect thereby jeopardizing the lives AND livelihoods of the ordinary citizens . Whether you know it or not,setting Nigeria back affects the rest of Africa AND the entire black race the world over

I do not remember President Buhari proclaiming anyone guilty. I do remember him supporting why certain people should not be allowed out on bail pending trial,and I quite agree with him.

Was his Statement "Prejudicial"? Perhaps, in a normal country where the system works, but Nigeria is not a normal country and the system doesn't work. So, some sort of guidance is needed and that's exactly what I see the President doing. Let's not forget that decisions had already been made and carried out BEFORE President Buhari made his statement on television , all he did was voice his support for the action.

It seems to me you are naive to the workings of the Judicial system, and as such I would encourage you to go read up on the terms "Flight Risk" and "Danger to Society" in Bail proceedings. The men you are staking your neck out for fit those terms to the T! They do not deserve to be released pending trial.

I do not know which pieces of evidence the Prosecution has on Mr.Metuh, neither do you, so I would refrain from replying that part of your post where you pretended to your audience as if you are privy to more info than has been revealed to the public. But, just so you know, not every evidence has to be physical, you can get convicted off "circumstantial" evidence.

Finally, what the hell has this all got to do with "Shooting protesters"? What in heaven are you referring to? I'm lost.

Adeyanju Deji, the Peoples Democratic Party’s director of new media, has narrated how he visited Olisa Metuh, the PDP’s spokesperson, who was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) last week.

Deji further quoted Metuh saying: “They have tried to blackmail & spoil my name. Just imagine all they have said about me. Telling lies against me.

“First they said I was collecting N5million Naira monthly from office of NSA, imagine if u were my staff how u will feel hearing that. Imagine how all the news people & my staff working with me felt when they heard I was collecting N5milion Naira from Dasuki. They will say so this man was a wicked man. So he was collecting money from Dasuki & other places & was always telling us no money.

“Finally they came back to say I only got N400million. I have made a statement that former president asked me to do an assignment 4 him. In my statement, I stated that former president Jonathan gave me an assignment, he asked for an account & I gave him my company account. I got N400m which I used for the job he asked me to do. I gave a report to him of job done & he was satisfied. I have a copy of the report I submitted to the former president. EfCC asked me who I shared the money to & said it’s not their buz.

“That if they have any evidence against me, they should charge me to court. I have not called anyone’s name & will never call anyone. It is not a crime to carry out an assignment for a president & successfully do it as well. I have no regrets.

“They asked me for a copy of my report to the former president. I asked them are they the Court? I stated in my statement that it is a lie that I was collecting N5m Naira monthly from Dasuki or anyone in GEJ’s government. I stated they should investigate me thoroughly. If I have ever received any kobo from any parastatal or agency then I will plead guilty.”

Deji noted that Metuh commended the PDP and all members of the party for the great job during the governorship elections in Bayelsa state.


Continuing his narration, Metuh was quoted to have said:

“Imagine the EFCC boss sent my lawyer to me to ask me to return some of the money from the N400m. Unbelievable.

“Deji this government are not interested in democracy or civil liberty at all. You are guilty once they say so.

“Reason why they are doing media trials is because they have noting to offer this nation. That’s why they are doing this Telemundo.

“All what we told them is the same thing the IMF woman came to tell them. We told them u can’t borrow to fund 2016 budget. What we told them about Dollar is what they have finally agreed to do now. They have no ideas or clue about governance.

“They don’t believe in democracy or the notion of “innocent before proven guilty.” They want to silent every critic.”

And why is the EFCC allowing all sorts of characters visit inmates awaiting trial? The ONLY people that should be allowed to visit him PRE-TRIAL are his legal team; even his spouse should only be allowed to speak to him on monitored phone calls and only for a few minutes each week until the conclusion of proceedings. He should not be allowed access to his PERSONAL phones, and his letters--- both incoming and outgoing--- except VERIFIED Attorney/Client correspondence should be monitored. The result of neglecting control of Pre-Trial Inmates is the idiocy we see in the above article.

Anyway, Nigeria is still learning, hopefully they get it right before it's too late.

Abuja over his continued detention. Metuh is being detained for
allegedly receiving N400 million from former National Security
Adviser Sambo Dasuki.

1st respondent have been dying due to lack of proper care
and adequate medical facilities, as the 1strespondent is not

He had no choice, he was a dead man walking. It doesn't mean he believed in Biafra, he didn't. He said as much. He also insinuated it was an Igbo coup and that he only participated because he was going to be killed as he had seen his friend being subtly threatened with death if he backed out. It doesn't mean he didn't support the coup. It seems to me that he believed in the cause but he didn't approve of the main planners because he didn't trust their motives.

He wrote to me as PDP BoT chairman and I wrote back as SDP National Chairman stating conditions/terms for the alliance.

I have the record. “It is true that N100 million was given to my party to endorse and work for the Jonathan’s candidature in the 2015 election. We used the money for that purpose and we effectively campaigned for the PDP since we did not have presidential candidate in the election. The money was not for me.

“Thank God I’m a retired civil servant. I have all the documents to prove all that transpired between the two parties.” The former Finance Minister stated that there was no way he could know that the money was from arms fund. “With all the money PDP has and having spent 16 years in power, how would I know that the money was from the arms deal? No reference was made to the arms deal. So, they should not bring me into the arms issue.

No sane court, anywhere in the world, will grant Dasuki or Kanu bail. A more experienced, unbiased, properly trained court would have ruled that they will be detained pending trial because of their penchant and propensity for violence, their ties and connections outside the borders of Nigeria, their ability to easily start chaos if let loose, the(ir) ability and incentive to not show up for any future court proceedings because: (1) of the weighty evidence against them; (2) The high probability of conviction (3) And the probability of long custodial sentences upon conviction.

It is fo*olish to release such dangerous men back to society before the conclusion of proceedings against them. I do not see any condition, or set of conditions that'll satisfactorily ensure that these men return to court to prove their innocence if released. For this reason I will urge the Nigerian Judiciary to detain them pending trial.

Regardless of any remorse he now has (or doesn't have) Nnamdi Kanu will have to go into court, change his plea to guilty, and just before sentencing he will be afforded the opportunity to speak his mind. If he remains defiant, sentence will be harsh, if on the other hand he expresses remorse, then the court might take that into consideration.

Bottom-line, your boy is toast.

Who cares about this rubbish? Please, let me prosecute this case and see if Dasuki won't hang from his neck till he's dead without a whimper from the public.
