@POLITICSNGR Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology(LAUTECH) got more than they bargained for after staging a protest against the school's authorities for hiking fees. Soldiers, on Wednesday, chased the protesting students who had blocked major roads and shut down the Institution's main Campus in Ogbomoso and Medical School in Osogbo. Trouble started on Monday after the institution sent a mail to all students announcing that indigenes are now to pay N200,000 while non-indigenes are to pay N250,000 for the new session which will commence on October 29. The new fees are against the initial N63,500 for indigenes and N72,500 for non-indigenes who are returning students. @POLITICSNGR Nigeria's Foreign Exchange reserves have dropped by $2.15 billion in the last 30 days, PoliticsNGR has gathered. This development occurred due to CBN's defense of the Naira. Since the United States Federal Reserves raised interest rates on September 26, 2018, the Nigerian reserves have dropped by $1,541,891,539, as investors continue voting their monies out of the Nigerian economy. The reserves moved from $44,458,822,331 on September 26, 2018 to $42,916,930,792 as at October 16, 2018. In a statement issued by the American central bank in September, the Fed decided to lift the benchmark overnight lending rate by a quarter of a percentage point to a range of two percent to 2.25 percent. Explaining the effects of this on the Nigerian economy and reserves, Isaac Okorafor, spokesperson of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said the fall in reserves is due to a hike in interest rates by US Federal Reserve and the CBN’s interventions in the forex market. He explained that investors who had left the world’s biggest economy for emerging markets like Nigeria, Brazil, China, due to low-interest rates are returning to the US, following the increase in rates. “You can see that the reversal of capital flows which is eating most economies and bringing about depreciation in their currency,” Okorafor had said. As at Tuesday, October 16, Nigeria’s foreign reserves stood at $42,916,930,792. https://politicsngr.com/breaking-nigerias-foreign-reserves-decline-2-15-billion-30-days/ |

@POLITICSNGR A PDP Gubernatorial Aspirant in Benue state, Paul Orhii is battling for his life in an undisclosed hospital after being poisoned a day to the party's primaries. Orhii has also been facing criticisms for selling all his billboards to an APC leader in the state, Barnabas Germade. Defending the action, Orhii said he had no intentions of spiting or attacking the party or anyone but had to make the move in order to raise money to pay his hospital bills. PoliticsNGR has been furnished with his full statement. Read Below; Since the issue of the sale of my billboards to Chief Senator Gemade has generated so much unnecessary political heat, especially for those who might have paid for the billboards and for those who are so concerned about my political future, I feel that I should state my own side just for the records. I met His Excellency Dr Gabriel Suswam for the first time in 2006 when he visited me in Houston to consult on his Governorship project. I was then working with Professor Hagher and I frankly told him so. But then I so much liked him as a person and because we enjoyed each other's company, and still do, we became very close friends and that friendship extended to our families. Therefore when he won the Gubernatorial Primaries in 2006 it was easy for me to agree to work for his election. I mobilized myself from Houston, arrived Benue, borrowed a very old car from a family friend and started following him around for the campaigns. Sometimes the car would stop on the way and I would fix it and meet them later. Luckily he won that election in 2007 and became the Governor. I went back to Houston. However luckily for me some circumstances played out and a friend from Houston, Dr Kase Lukman Lawal, an oil magnet introduced me to President Yar-Adua. With the help of this my very good friend, my Late Uncle His Lordship Justice Katsina-Alu, my Brother Chief Kaase Aondoakaa, SAN, who was then the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, and of course with the full approval of my friend, H.E. Dr Gabriel Suswam President Yar Adua later appointed me the DG NAFDAC. Naturally when I moved back to Nigeria my friendship with Gov. Suswam became even stronger and the two of us became more inseparable. When the time for his re-election came in 2011 I massively contributed, financially, morally, etc to enable him win that very tight race. I again massively supported him in 2015 for his Senate bid. Unfortunately we could not win. But we have remained the best of friends. It goes without saying that if I supported my friend Suswam in 2007 to win governorship, then supported him again in 2011 to win re-election and again supported his Senatorial bid in 2015, it was not totally unreasonable for me to expect him to support me in the only election that I had decided to run. Unfortunately due to circumstances that I came to understand were clearly beyond his control he could not support me in my gubernatorial bid, which I fully understand. Therefore I did not sell my billboards to Chief Senator Gemade as my show of support against Suswam as is being speculated. Or to spite H.E. Suswam. The truth of the matter is that I arrived Makurdi two days before the Gubernatorial Primaries. The very next day, which was the eve of the primaries I was poisoned. That is why I was not even able to go out and greet the delegates when they arrived Makurdi, even though I had paid money for their transportation, booked and paid their accommodation for many of the delegations in Makurdi. I was actually on drips fighting for my life while my co-aspirants were going out there to meet and greet the delegates. I managed to go to the field the next morning but had to rush back to bed after the event. Everybody moved on as there were other primaries scheduled in other towns across the state and I was left there with no money and just a few friends and family members to fend for myself. It was at this point that Mr Tyover Atetan, an aide to Chief Gemade reached me that Chief Gemade was offering to buy my billboards. At this point it was a matter of life and death as I badly needed money for my treatment and survival and was so glad to take the offer because I could never even have imagined that someone would offer me money for the billboards. So we made a deal and Chief Gemade promptly transferred the money to my account which enabled me to go to Lagos for treatment. It is quite unfortunate that people who would have loved to see me die from the poison are so peeved that I managed to sell my billboards to enable me afford treatment when they thought I had been abandoned to die from poisoning. But thank God I survived. I will be leaving for the USA next week for more detailed medical checks to make sure that no residue of the poison is still in my system. I still need more money and would appreciate any assistance. Unknown to these people I am still very good friends with Suswam. He explained to me and I fully understand why he could not be there for me when I needed his political backing. Despite our tight schedules we still communicate almost on a daily basis. He knows that I still support his Senatorial ambition 100%. In any case most of these people criticizing my decision should understand that as a full grown adult I have the right to chose friends, chose which politicians to support and even to chose political parties, and we have 91 of them. It is out of my personal choice that I have chosen to support Suswam or even to continue to stay in the PDP despite all the injustice that was done to me. I contributed massively to building the PDP and have financially supported many of its candidates since 2007, only to almost get killed just for coming out to offer myself for service to the state. I hope this my side of the story should put all these stories to rest, at least in the minds of reasonable fair-minded persons. Those who know me know that I do not go two ways. My yes is yes. My no is no. If I am with you I am with you. I don't know how to support one person or one party in the day time and another person and another party at night. https://politicsngr.com/pdp-guber-aspirant-poisoned-sells-billboards-apc-leader-pay-bills-photo/

@POLITICSNGR The Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 elections, Mr. Peter Obi, has clarified that he never at any time claimed that he had no house in London. His Special adviser, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, made the clarification yesterday while reacting to what he described as false stories being spread online by Obi’s detractors that he lied about owning houses in London. Obienyem said: “During several media programmes, Mr. Peter Obi said Onitsha was the only place he owned a personal house in Nigeria. “In an attempt to discredit him, some people are posting his London houses as the much-awaited evidence that he lied. “First, let it be noted that the issue of having a personal house only in Onitsha is a matter of choice. If his lifestyle supports love for houses, Obi can afford to have houses in the 36 states of Nigeria and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). “As for his London houses, it might interest the public to note that he bought his first house in London in 1987. All the houses he owned in London were purchased before he became governor of Anambra State and were all duly declared.” Obienyem advised Nigerians and the international community “to disregard false stories being fabricated by Obi’s detractors who are clutching at straws in their vain bid to demonize Obi, whom he described as a proven performer and lover of the masses who is well known for his forthrightness and integrity. https://politicsngr.com/just-peter-obi-finally-opens-owning-houses-london/

@POLITICSNGR Some leaders and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC in Imo state have revealed that the state governor, Rochas Okorocha has been 'caged' to prevent the party from imminent collapse in the state. Theo Ekechi, who spoke to journalists after a close-door meeting with the APC national leadership on Thursday in Abuja, said the stakeholders had overwhelming evidence against Okorocha. This, he said, had made it impossible for the governor to get attention from any quarter in the state and in the South-east region. “There have been wide jubilation in Imo because we have rescued the party from Governor Okorocha, we have made it impossible for him to get help from anywhere. “He cannot run to any political figure in the state because none is with him, he cannot approach any clergyman in the state. “In his desperation, he ran to Sokoto, Daura and even to the Vice President, but help has refused to come,” he said. Mr Ekechi said Mr Okorocha’s inaction was responsible for the problems facing the party in the state and the South-east generally. In a petition submitted to the party’s national leadership, the stakeholders chronicled what they described as the governor’s sins and appealed for state of emergency in the state. He called on the party’s national chairman to bring to the notice of President Muhammadu Buhari the crisis in Imo before it completely gets out of hand. Mr Ekechi alleged that the state was being mismanaged under Mr Okorocha, adding that the governor was running the state like a personal estate. He also alleged that the governor was harassing and intimidating perceived opponents in the state. While Mr Ekechi and others say the ward congress in the state was held with Mr Okorocha and his supporters losing out, the governor has said it was not held and alleged manipulation. The APC local government congress, held in most parts of the country last Saturday was postponed in Imo due to the crisis. https://politicsngr.com/caged-okorocha-imo-apc-leaders-full-story/ cc: lalasticlala

@POLITICSNGR President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday surprised attendees at the commissioning of a new EFCC building today in Abuja when he picked a wad of dollar notes and started counting them. After inaugurating the building said to be worth N25 billion, President Muhammadu Buhari went on inspection. When he got to the exhibition stand, he was shown some recovered loot and the president held a wad of dollars to the amazement of many, including Ibrahim Magu, acting chairman of the commission. PoliticsNGR has been furnished with a transcript of his speech at the event, read it below; This is another milestone in our determined and collective fight against corruption. 2. Throughout my journey in national service and since 2015, I have made a very conscious decision to pursue a vigorous fight against corruption in public life. 3. Since 2015, we have made significant progress in the fight against corruption. Everyone now knows that corrupt officials will be held to account, no matter how long it takes. 4. We have recovered and are still recovering trillions of naira that were stolen in the past few years by people without conscience. 5. We are pursuing recoveries everywhere and are making sure that anyone who has been found culpable is made to answer for his or her crime under the law. 6. It is my hope and expectation that the judiciary, which is a critical stakeholder and partner in the war against corruption, would continue to collaborate with the Executive to bring corrupt people to book. 7. Permit me to also seize this opportunity to call on the Legislature which provides the legal framework for the anti-corruption war to add more verve to the determination of government to rid our nation of the brazen corruption witnessed in recent years, through reviewing archaic provisions in our laws and proactive passage of new legislation. 8. Ladies and gentlemen, an American author and philanthropist, Anthony Robbins once said: “The only impossible journey is the one you never begin." He was saying, in other words, that if you are determined, no obstacle will be big enough to stand in your way. 9. What I see here is not only a structure of concrete and metal, I see in this edifice, the resolve of Nigerians to fight corruption. But structures are not the whole story. We must CHANGE our ways of handling public trust. Corruption not only kills governments but destroys societies. It is the major reason why we are struggling with basic developmental issues that other comparable nations have long overcome. 10. War of corruption is not an easy one to fight, because it affects so many different branches of our lives, so much that some people do not even consider breaking trust is anymore a crime. It has become the norm. That is why we must fight this attitude and encourage Nigerians to CHANGE their attitudes and perspectives. 11. The goal of this Administration is to ensure the protection of public trust, and the anti-corruption war is at its centre. We never intended, and we are not engaged in witch-hunts, but we are determined within the laws to call people to account. 12. It is for this reason that we appeal to Nigerians to support regulatory agencies like Economic and Financial Crimes Commission because fighting corruption is everyone’s concern. I call on the Judiciary and the National Assembly to join hands in this national effort. 13. I am glad to note that quite a number of nations are signifying interest to help us tighten their laws and enter into agreements with Nigeria to repatriate not only stolen funds but to make the culprits face due process of law. 14. We are committed to working with our foreign friends to stop the inflow of stolen funds from Nigeria into their countries and recovering what is there already. These assets, when repatriated will be put to building our infrastructure. 15. It is my pleasure to perform the opening ceremony of the ‘’Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Headquarters’’. https://politicsngr.com/efcc-building-president-buhari-counts-looted-dollars-photos/

@POLITICSNGR A former governor of Kano state, Ibrahim Shekarau has formally declared his intention to contest for the 2019 presidential elections. Shekarau seeks to contest under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The former education minister pointed out that his decision was spurred by numerous clarion calls. He said; "As you may be aware, for quite some time now, since, after the 2015 general elections, there have been various calls made by individuals and groups from many quarters, nationwide, urging my humble candidature for the contest of the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the next general elections, due in 2019. I strongly believe that the people are doing so out of their conviction of contentment and satisfaction based upon the modest successes recorded while I served as the Governor of Kano State (2003 to 2011), and also as a Minister of Education (July 2014 - May 2015). In response to these calls, and in view of the seeming intricacies and the boundless complexities involved in such a national assignment, I have consulted across the geopolitical zones and different interest groups, who examined and appraised the issue and advised me accordingly. I am pleased to say, based on these wide consultations, that I am better informed and convinced that participating in the democratic process of serving humanity goes beyond party affiliations/boundaries, and also beyond just winning an election. I have therefore decided to accept the clarion calls, and will in due course and in accordance with the guidelines of my party, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), offer my humble self for the contest of the presidency of the Federal Republic of Nigeria during the forthcoming 2019 general elections," he said. https://politicsngr.com/breaking-former-kano-governor-shekarau-declares-2019-presidential-ambition/

@POLITICSNGR The Lagos State Police Command is investigating a case of child abuse reported by Chosen Child Orphanage Home, located at Gastya Estate, Ijora-Badia on behalf of Aishat Sheriff, a 16-year-old girl child whose upper and lower right limbs were allegedly burnt by her biological mother, one Ayo Sheriff, 30 years old, by means of electric pressing iron over minor misunderstanding. What led to the abuse was that the victim, who is a student of a secondary school and also a part time student nurse in auxiliary capacity, was given the sum of five hundred Naira by her boss with an instruction to hand two hundred Naira to someone on her way home, use fifty Naira as transport fare and return the balance of two hundred and fifty to her boss the next day. However, on the day she was supposed to return the balance of the money to her boss, the victim defaulted. She told her boss that the money was with her mother. The boss called her mother on the phone and she denied knowledge of the money. When the victim returned home from work, her mother who was already waiting for her, plugged an electric iron and waited until it was red hot. At this stage, she used the red hot iron to welcome her daughter home, accusing her of being a disgrace to the family. PoliticsNGR learnt that The CP Lagos was miffed at the sight of of the horrible wounds inflicted on a child by her mother. He therefore called on parents to correct their children in love.
