Below are Remarks by the Acting President, His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, today at the palace of the Emir of Gusau, Alhaji Ibrahim Bello, during a one-day visit to Zamafara State. Let me begin by saying that am very honoured by this warm welcome that has been given me and l bring very warm greetings from President Muhammadu Buhari whom l had the pleasure of seeing in London just about this time last week. It’s important that everywhere in our country is safe for our people to work and live and I am especially pleased to see that His Royal Highness has maintained this within this kingdom and anyone can approach him and everyone can live here. This l think is very worthwhile and l must commend you for this great work that you are doing. And we have been around to see the works of his Excellency, the governor and in-fact that’s what we are spending the whole of today doing. We have been here since 11am in the morning and we have been to Gunmi, we are still going round the state and all of these shows that there is lot of work going on and we are extremely proud of the work that Governor Yari is doing and that our great party, the APC is doing also in this state. The message that l have is only to say that this country is one of the greatest countries in the world, there is no question at all about that. We see that in another ten years, probably we will be measuring with the 15th largest economies in the world. A lot of that will depend on how hard we work but more importantly on our staying united. The reason why we are such an important country is that we are a big country and we are diverse, we have arable land everywhere, solid minerals everywhere, even here in Zamfara State. The Federal Government is committed to developing all of the mineral resources especially here in Zamfara State. We intend to work very hard on developing mineral resources and we must ensure that all of these places are safe to live and to do business. Our country's size is important and the diversity of our people and resources are important. But we must stay together to be able to reap the fruit of our size and the development of this country. We must remain united to reap the fruit. There are many countries in Africa, some of them are not bigger than Zamfara State, infact many of them are not as big as Zamfara State and they are countries in Africa. When you look at the sheer size and the diversity of Nigeria, we have the potentials of becoming one of the truly great countries of the world and l think that with the hard-work that we are seeing and with the right leadership, leadership committed to the people, committed to delivering services to the people, we can really make a difference, we can become what God has purposed and planned for us to be. I want to thank you again, Your Royal Highness for this warm welcome and to say that we remain solidly with you and will work with you to ensure peace and stability in this place and also to thank you for all that you are doing to support the governor for ensuring that this place is safe for all to live in. Thank you very much, God bless you. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/19/nigeria-one-greatest-countries-world-osinbajo/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44

Senator Ovie Omo Agege and his wife have a lot to thank God for as they narrowly escaped being assassinated after a group of thugs attacked them on Sunday. At least two persons have sustained serious injuries after Omo-Agege, who represents Delta Central at the National Assembly, his wife and some top members of the All Progressives Congress(APC) were brutally attacked during an empowerment programme in Effurun, Uvwie council area of Delta State. The attack which occurred on Saturday is believed to be an assassination attempt on the senator when he visited the Effurun Market located along the popular PTI road during the second phase of his constituency empowerment programme in Effurun, Ekpan and Ugberikoko areas of Uvwie. The incident created panic as market women and motorists left their vehicles and scampered for safety when the gunmen opened fire on the senator’s entourage. Recounting details of the incident, Senator Omo-Agege said, “There is Igho Majemite. There is Wilson Oki. These are all known thugs in Uvwie. I don’t know who sent them to assassinate me. But I was lucky because the bullet grazed through my right ear. If I was not lucky I would have been dead. Two bullets were shot at me; one was shot by Ayeye and another bullet was shot at me by Ngozi and also, my brother was shot. “Also, we have one of my supporters who was almost killed at Ekpan market all in the presence of police officers who could not even effect any arrest. I have taken a first step by filing a report with the Ekpan Police Division. I have equally spoken with the State Commissioner of Police. “I will take it to the highest level. All I seek is that these undesirable elements who are out to assassinate people are removed from the system. And I will go to any extent to see to this. You cannot attempt to kill a sitting Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. I refuse to read any political motivation to this. I’m not in any way saying that there is none. “For those who were beaten and those who were equally shot at, like me, I can assure them that we will get to the very bottom of it. Everybody who is involved in this attempted assassination, we will bring them to face the wrath of the law.” The Police Commissioner, Mr Zanna Ibrahim, confirmed the attack on Senator Omo-Agege when contacted on Sunday. Ibrahim added that preliminary investigation into the incident has commenced. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/16/senator-omo-agege-wife-escape-assassination-attempt/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44

Delta Senator Peter Nwaoboshi turned 60 today and to celebrate it, a thanksgiving service was organised in his honour. Senate president, Bukola Saraki, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, former Governor James Ibori, while speaking at the event, expressed faith in Nigeria's democracy and unity. At the mass which held in St Augustine's Catholic Church, Ibusa, they stated that Nigerians should put the interest of the country first before self. Delta State Deputy Governor, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro, former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan were also at the service which was attended by more than 40 Senators, including Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; Senate Leader, Ahmed Lawan; and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio. Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Leo Ogor was also at the service which was attended by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Dr Ibe Kachikwu and his Niger Delta counterpart, Uguru Usani. An array of traditional rulers, Priests and politicians attended the event. Senator Saraki said, "I want to assure the clergy that we will continue to seek for your prayers for this great country of ours; the challenges facing the country are enormous, it goes beyond roads and infrastructure; the peace and unity of this country is paramount and should be upheld but, equity and Justice where every Nigerian has a say must be the watchword." The Senate President who congratulated Senator Nwaoboshi stated that the Senate is one family and would ensure that Nigerians get their dues. To Governor Okowa, "the church should continue to pray for politicians for they work under very serious circumstances; we will continue to encourage ourselves to be good representatives of our people; we need the partnership of all Nigerians and Deltans to develop our communities and we will continue to support the Senate in its defense of democracy." The Governor who paid glowing tribute to Senator Nwaoboshi, asserted, "people of Delta North supports him and as Delta Northerners, we are very proud of him as Senator representing us." Former Governor James Ibori in his speech, observed, "in a democratic dispensation, you have assigned duties - it is the duty of the legislature to make laws, the executive to implement the laws and the civil society elders and clergy will tell the truth to those in power." "I am yet to see an elected officer that does not have the interest of the people at heart," the former Governor reiterated, disclosing that Senator Peter Nwaoboshi is a committed son of Anioma (Delta North) who fought for the emergence of a Delta Northerner as Governor. Elated Senator Nwaoboshi at the occasion, said he had every reason to thank God on his 60th birthday, noting that selfish, ethnic interests are put aside in the interest of the nation. "We have more APC (All Progressive Congress) Senators here than PDP (Peoples Democratic Party) Senators in this church, and it tell you that we think of Nigeria rather than seif, party or ethnic interests because, the Senate President has made it fir us to think and work for only Nigeria," Senator Nwaoboshi said. Very Rev. Fr. John Aduba had in a sermon, urged political office holders to be the voice of the voiceless, observing, "there is a lot of sufferings and smiling, people are being denied the basic things of life, no road, no water, no electricity; you might be comfortable but, those who elected you to serve, how do they feel?" The Priest urged Christians not to only receive the words of God but should treasure the words into practice. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/16/photos-senator-peter-nwaoboshis-60th-birthday/

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission(EFCC) has denied reports of recovering $42 million on a farm belonging to the chairman of the PDP, Ahmed Markarfi. In a statement released on Friday by the anti-corruption body, signed by its head of media and publicity, Mr Wilson Uwajaren, the story was false and it was originated by two people namely; Innocent Onyekachi Oritsetimeyin Adjenuhgure and Adeola Sam Opeyemi. It read; The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, hereby warns the general public to be wary of the activities of the duo of INNOCENT ONYEKACHI ORITSETIMEYIN AKPOTEDJA ADJENUHGURE and ADEOLA SAM OPEYEMI who have been misleading Nigerians with false information about the activities of the Commission. Barely six hours after the Supreme Court judgment in the case of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, where it ruled in favour of the Senator Ahmed Makarfi’s faction, Adjenuhgure posted in his Facebook Timeline that $42 million was found in Sen. Makarfi's farm by the EFCC “less than 2 hours after the Supreme Court judgment. While many unsuspecting Nigerians shared the unfounded post, others simply copied and reposted as original which generated myriad of reactions suggestive that the Commission was a tool in the hands of the Executive to further destabilise the PDP. Following efforts by the Commission to correct the erroneous and misleading information through its social media platforms, some who had no ulterior motive apologised and deleted the post. Sadly, ADJENUHGURE and OPEYEMI stood their grounds as they insisted that the story was true. We have considered it necessary to set the records straight and to advice social media activists to be wary of ADJENUHGURE and OPEYEMI who are out to sow a seed of discord among Nigerians as there is no EFCC investigation on Senator Makarfi. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/15/efcc-denies-recovering-42-million-markarfis-farm/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44

South-South leader and former Senator, Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clarke has lampooned former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo over his stance on restructuring Nigeria. Obasanjo condemned any form of restructuring the nation and Chief Clarke is not having it. He says the former president knows the truth and he should say it. He thundered; “If he (Obasanjo) does not believe in restructuring, what were the national conference or political conference and national reform conference, which we all attended for? I was the leader of the Southern delegation even though we walked out, what was if for, was it only for his third term or concern for the restructuring of Nigeria? That is a question Obasanjo should be asked to answer.” Obasanjo wants to Impose his will on Nigeria Chief Clarke said: “The truth is that he (Obasanjo) is a leader who wants to impose his will and authority on Nigeria.” Many things to restructure Contrary to Obasanjo’s submission that there was nothing to restructure in the country, There is a need for restructuring, there is need to go back to the kind of government we had before and after independence until the soldiers struck.” “What we are saying is that we want the former one where there was devolution of power, where every region had its own constitution even the Midwest region was created based on the demand for restructuring. Then, every region was independent in whatever they did. No one held the other down, which was why western Nigeria government did things that other government did not do and others were not envious of it because everybody had his own government. “At present, Nigeria is running a unitary government, a situation where every state first goes to the Federal Government for money. That is not federalism. So Obasanjo is not saying the truth, he knows what to say, but he is not saying it. He is saying there is nothing wrong with the structure of the country, which is not true. “We want restructuring to correct the defects in the current structure of the country. For instance, Kano has 47 local governments but contributes nothing to the revenue of the country, while Bayelsa, which contributes a lot has only eight local governments. I think these are anomalies that should be corrected,” he added. Power should be given to the States Chief Clark continued: “There should be devolution of powers to the states if the states are going to be the federating units. Obasanjo is wrong to say that there is nothing wrong with the structure of the country, everything is wrong with the structure of the country.” “We believe that the minorities in Nigeria, especially in the north, should have a sense of belonging by creating states for them. Like the Southern Kaduna, the people need a state with headquarters in Kafanchan, which is why we need restructuring. “We also believe that in every state, governorship should rotate from one senatorial zone to the other to give every section of the state a sense of oneness and participation so that in a state like Kogi, where only the Igalas until recently or Benue, where only Tivs have been producing governors can be checked,” the South-South leader said. According to him, “These were part of the things we discussed at the 2014 national conference, that governorship should be zoned, it is part of restructuring and the conference discussed everything from Obasanjo’s 2005 report, Abacha’s conference, Babaginda’s conference, all the reports were brought before us and the conference deliberated on them.” “The talks that northern Nigeria was not represented at the conference is a lie, it was properly represented. They had 10 men in the three committees from the north, what type of representation are they talking about? Muslim, Christian leaders were at the conference.” Obasanjo was part of the Problem in the National assembly “When Senate presidency was zoned to the Igbo during his tenure, Obasanjo ensured that it was not stable, so he had about five senate presidents or during his tenure. Let him keep quiet. Is it because we have a country where people do not know their right from left and everybody is being praised as a worthy leader?.” Osinbajo needs support to stop cabal I am calling on all Nigerians to support the acting President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo. “Therefore, I call on all Nigerians to support his administration. A situation where some few individuals who were never elected by the people of Nigeria would sit down in Aso Villa to manipulate President Muhammadu Buhari’s agenda should not be allowed,” he said. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/15/restructuring-obasanjo-keep-quiet-edwin-clarke/

Following his victory at the Supreme Court recently, Senator Ahmed Markarfi has granted 'Amnesty' to Ali Modu Sheriff and his faction of the people's democratic party(PDP). Makarfi made the announcement while reacting to a questions from journalists on whether the party would punish Modu Sheriff. In a statement through the spokesperson of the caretaker committee, Dayo Adeyeye, Makarfi stated that the party would overlook the 'sins' of those involved in the party's crisis but will not forgive any one caught hatching a new plot. He urged party members who have pending legal cases with the party at the state levels to withdraw them. In his words; “No, we won’t punish anyone for what had happened in the past. Our doors are open for everyone, including those who are not members of the PDP.It is general amnesty for all. It is when you begin to commit fresh sins or causing fresh troubles that we will then look at it. We want to appeal to everybody, those who have cases in courts, to withdraw them in the interest of the party. You can see that everybody is happy because of the outcome of the case. APC is a monumental disaster. People are looking for alternative and now the Supreme Court has restored their hope. We will provide the alternative platform. “As we can see now, 2019 election will be a walkover in our favour. APC will begin to see virile opposition henceforth,”. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/14/supreme-court-victory-markarfi-grants-sheriff-amnesty/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44

A few weeks ago, the Nigerian media was awash with the story of a man called Samuel Anayo Ugwute, who claimed to have died and woken up from the dead but recent findings by PoliticsNGR prove otherwise. In an extensive investigation spanning almost 3 weeks, PoliticsNGR identified several discrepancies in the story being purveyed by Mr Ugwute. This newspaper has compiled a series of discoveries and evidence that expose the holes in Ugwute's 'testimony'. The Beginning Mr Samuel Ugwute stated that he had been suffering from heart failure for a while and needed urgent surgery abroad. He stated that he travelled to two hospitals; Fortis Escorts Hospital in India and St. Vincent Private Hospital in Melbourne, Australia. He revealed that he died in Australia, his body was then flown back to India and he resurrected on arriving the Hindu country. The story looked too good to be true so PoliticsNGR launched a full-scale investigation into his claims. Our Findings Below is a list of discoveries and evidence that discredit a lot of Mr Ugwute's claims; 1. THE PHOTOGRAPH Below is a photograph of Mr Ugwute lying on a hospital bed in India. This was shared online by his brother, Rooney. The Image is heavily edited and completely fake. look at the proof below. 1. There are no creases on the pillow. There is no way a head will rest on a pillow without creases appearing on the pillow. 2. Judging by the angle of his head, his right ear is supposed to be submerged in the pillow. This is a clear cut giveaway. Skilled graphic artists can easily spot this. It clearly shows the head was super-imposed on the body. 3. No visible neck. Every head should have a neck but it is very surprising that this photograph shows only Mr. ugwute's head and no neck. 2. THE HOSPITALS Mr Ugwute stated that he went to two different hospitals abroad; Fortis in New Delhi and St Vincent in Melbourne. PoliticsNGR reached out to both hospital on the matter, St. Vincent declined to comment due to their privacy policy and Fortis denied ever having knowledge of ever receiving or knowing Mr Ugwute. This debunks Mr Ugwute's claims of consulting with Fortis. But then his brother, Rooney stated on a Facebook post that the Indian hospital(Fortis) rejected Ugwute which prompted him to head to Australia. PoliticsNGR decided to dig further and came across medical documents presented by Mr Samuel Ugwute to Ika Weekly Newspaper. Below are the documents; So correspondence was established with Fortis hospital in India, they denied ever having Ugwute as a patient. The Fortis document(medical visa) above detailing Ugwute's passport number and details was also sent to the hospital to check if it was genuine. The hospital replied stating that the document was fake. PoliticsNGR also ran a check of the Medi-crescent specialist hospital(RC 34986) on the CAC official website (http://.gov.ng), it is not listed there. 3. MR. UGWUTE'S STORY PoliticsNGR extensively reviewed the accounts of Mr. Samuel Ugwute and his brother, Rooney and these are the questions/inconsistencies found. Below are screenshots of Rooney's account of the incident on Facebook; In Screenshot D, Ugwute's brother, Rooney stated that the hospital in India rejected Samuel. then in screenshot G, he says Samuel had two death certificates from India and Australia. The hospital in India rejected him when he was alive, is it when he is dead that the hospital will accept him and grant him a death certificate? In an Interview, which can be seen here, Samuel states that his body was covered in Formalin and he had to take a 'warm bath' to remove it. Formalin is used in Embalmment and embalmment does not involve rubbing formalin on the skin, it is injected into the body/arteries. Read About it HERE. Lastly, he claimed he got Visa on arrival in Australia, to the best of our Knowledge, Australia does not issue Visas on arrival to Nigerians. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/13/exclusive-red-flags-story-man-ressurrected-dead-samuel-ugwute/

Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, a former governor of Abia state has announced his support for 'One Nigeria' but added that the nation must be restructured. Orji stated that the country had gone past the issuing of 'quit notices' as the many ethnic groups in the country have lived harmoniously for years. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja on Tuesday, Kalu while speaking on the quit notice issued to Igbos by a group of northern youths, quipped that all hands must be on deck to strengthen the unity of the country. He added that the country had come to stay but need to go back to regionalism. Kalu, who is also a very successful entrepreneur, stated that he will remain committed to preaching 'One Nigeria' and promoting the virtues of 'President Muhammadu Buhari'. Quoting him; “As long as I remain an APC member, I will continue to espouse the ideas and good qualities of President Muhammadu Buhari,''. Kalu finalised by stating that the country needed a strong and transparent Judiciary to uphold and promote the rule of law. He stated that an upright judiciary was the last hope of the common man. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/11/support-one-nigeria-must-go-back-regional-governments-orji-kalu/

A former Senate leader, Ali Ndume has revealed how former president, Goodluck Jonathan tortured him emotionally for 6 years over alleged links to terrorist sect, Boko Haram. Speaking to Newsmen in the federal capital territory(FCT), Abuja, Ndume, who was recently acquitted by a federal high court in Abuja, told journalists that his family was seriously affected by the allegations. He stated that one of his daughters suffered a miscarriage on hearing of his arrest and arraignment in court. In his words; “For six years, the Federal Government put me on trial without any evidence to prove their false allegations against me. After six years, the court said they had no case against me so they had to acquit me.The media wasn’t fair; the spirit with which they reported my arraignment has not been matched with the reports published on my acquittal. For six years I was restricted, I could not travel, I could not move an inch; I was subjected to emotional torture when all the while the government knew that there was nothing against me and they know who the sponsors of Boko Haram are. And the saddest aspect of it all was that up till when the case was dismissed finally, nobody, including those in the media who had subjected me to their trial, could query the lame facts brought to the court. But I will still ensure that my voice is heard and my side of the story is told as well; because there are so many things that the world needs to know,”. Ndume is currently on a 6 months suspension from the Senate. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/11/jonathan-tortured-emotionally-ali-ndume/

Only 10 out of 45 registered political parties in Nigeria have registered and official websites. The national president of the Computer Guild of Nigeria (CGN), Wole Adedoyin made this known at a press conference on Sunday in Lagos State. In a very short time, websites have become vital campaign and communication tools for political parties around the world. Political parties and candidates in the United States began to adopt the internet during the election campaigns in 1996. Political parties in Nigeria started using it in 2001. Even though most parties then did not have a real conception of how to use the medium and many of them set up websites primarily to be seen to be keeping up with technology. And the fact that Nigerian parties and candidates then simply feared being left behind. According to Wole Adedoyin, the parties with visible websites are New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) @www.newnigeriapeoplesparty.org , Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) @ www.pppnigeria.org, All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) @ www.apga.org, Labour Party (LP) www.labourpartyng.org, Advanced People Democratic Alliance (APDA), @ www.apdanigeria.org, All Progressives Congress (APC) @ www.allprogressivecongress.org , Action Democratic Party (ADP), @ www.actiondemocraticparty.org, Young Democratic Party (YDP) @ www.ydp.ng, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), @ www.peoplesdemocraticparty. com.ng, KOWA Party (KP) @ www.kowaparty.net. Mr. Adedoyin who is also the national coordinator of Democratic Writers Association of Nigeria said that only 32 out of 45 registered political parties in Nigeria have facebook accounts. “Website is one of the major tools for canvassing, mobilizing, sensitizing, educating and engaging grassroots voters. A typical party website would be strong, have detailed information on party organization and structure including profiles of some party officials at both the national and state levels”. “My advice to INEC is to compel all registered political parties in the country to have functioning websites so as to allow the public to have access to their programmes and manifestoes”. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/11/10-45-registered-political-parties-nigeria-websites-adedoyin/

PoliticsNGR learnt that the Apex court has officially notified both parties involved in the suit. The court will sit at exactly 9:00 am and proceedings will commence shortly after. Sheriff and the PDP have been locked in a serious legal battle in the Supreme Court after Sheriff was announced as the party's authentic chairman by an appeal court. Governor of Borno State and Chairman, Northern Governors’ Forum, Kashim Shettima, has stated that he wrote his will and prepared to die with Borno people during the height of the insurgency in the state. The governor said he had to shun the Mecca and identify with his people by staying with them during the stormy days. Shettima was responding to questions on TVC BIG Talk show. He said, “I wrote my will six months into my administration when the issue of Boko Haram was hitting up and I was prepared to sacrifice my life. “This is because the insurgents were everywhere in the State. They had taken over about 22 local government areas in the state. At a time like you must summon the political will-power to fiercely identify with the people. At least I’m surrounded by 600 policemen, what about the common people. “We couldn’t abdicate with the people but the mere fact that you are on ground will give them the hope to say ‘look, our leader did not run away. “Ordinarily there was the period of the year which was a period of political jamboree when leaders go to Saudi Arabia to enjoy themselves, but I can’t go, I won’t go and I will never go.” http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/08/boko-haram-wrote-will-becoming-governor-shettima/ cc: lalasticlala

President Muhammadu Buhari's Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu has stated that acting president, Yemi Osinbajo's statement on the confirmation of Ibrahim Magu, the embattled chairman of the Economic and financial crimes commission(EFCC) was a personal opinion. Shehu's comments are coming after a recent interview Osinbajo had, where he said that the Senate 's confirmation was not required for Magu to remain in office based on section 171 of the Nigerian Constitution. This statement reportedly irritated the Senate which has now resolved to retaliate by suspending all appointments made by the presidency. PoliticsNGR discovered that in order to salvage the situation, Shehu told newsmen that it was just an 'opinion' of the acting president. In his words; “Our understanding is that some remarks made by the Acting President some months ago when he was the Vice-President, because the President was around at that time, an opinion he gave is being misconstrued.A senior lawyer in the country offered an opinion, in which he said some categories of public officers, traditionally cleared by the National Assembly, need not go through that process, that those ones can be appointed through presidential fiat; they don’t have to go through screening. “But several months ago, in his position as Vice-President, Prof. Osinbajo gave a personal opinion, saying what this lawyer said makes sense,” The presidential spokesman added; “The authority of the Senate, under the Constitution to screen and pass nominees, has never been questioned by the government or the Federal Executive Council. From the time the Vice-President gave that opinion till now, more than 20 nominations have been forwarded to the Senate and quite a number of them have been screened, sworn in and are now occupying positions. “Therefore, this is not a big issue as some people want to make it. The party, government and the National Assembly will sit at a round table and this matter will be discussed and resolved,” . On Wednesday, Senate President, Bukola Saraki denied reports of trying to frustrate Osinbajo out of Office. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/06/osinbajos-comments-magu-personal-opinion-fg/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44

The Lagos state Water Corporation (LWC) has refuted a media report alleging the flow of diesel from a public water supply tap at 10, Tiamiyu Savage Street in Victoria Island. A statement issued by the Managing Director, LWC, Engr. Muminu Badmus today in his Ijora Office, the Corporation said its Zonal Distribution Team in Victoria Island has investigated the incident and discovered that the pollution resulted from repair works done by the owner of the Property. The statement said it was observed that during the renovation, the pipe supplying water to the property was damaged and diesel from the electricity generating set seeped through a breakage in the public water supply channel within the property. It stated further that in a bid to establish the extent of damage that compromised the quality of public water supply in the area, officials of the Corporation obtained samples from other water outlets and observed that the water was clean, clear, odourless and fit for human consumption. “The problem is a localised problem, peculiar to the property tap which got polluted as a result of the intrusion of diesel and other substances that gained access to the service pipe through an opening caused by ongoing repair works in the area” the statement added. Badmus urged Lagosians to desist from laying water service pipes within drainage channels to avoid water pollution, thereby causing water-borne diseases while warning Contractors working on Lagos roads to avoid infringing on the Corporation’s pipes. The Managing Director reaffirmed the commitment of the agency to providing potable water and uninterrupted supply across the State. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/05/lagos-water-corporation-denies-report-poisoned-water-victoria-island/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44

Justice Mojisola Olatoregun of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, dismissed the fundamental rights enforcement suit filed by Robert Azibaola, a cousin to former President Goodluck Jonathan, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. Azibaola, through his counsel, Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa, had contended that the EFCC had no right under Sections 293 and 294 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, to detain him. In the suit, Azibaola claimed that the Sections are for capital offences for which a legal advice from the Attorney-General is required before a charge could be filed. Azibaola further claimed that the Sections do not apply to financial crimes. The respondent (EFCC), however, argued that Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Law of Lagos State 2011 empowers it to detain suspects based on remand warrants issued by magistrate courts. http://politicsngr.com/2017/07/05/court-dismisses-rights-violation-suit-filed-jonathans-cousin-azibaola/ cc: lalasticlala, Mynd44 In a well-considered ruling, Justice Olatoregun dismissed the suit noting that the EFCC acted within the provisions of the law.Azibaola was alleged to have received $40m in September 2014 from a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.), who is also facing trial for allegedly diverting the funds meant for procurement of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgency. Azibaola also allegedly received another N650million from Dasuki on December 8, 2014.

Justice A. S. Umar of the Federal Capital Territory High Court sitting in Maitama has adjourned to Friday, June 16, 2017, to decide whether or not to admit two documents by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, against a former Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Usman Jibrin, who is being charged for contravening Section 26 (1) (b) of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offence Act 2000. Jibrin is facing trial alongside Rear Admiral Bala Mshelia, Rear Admiral Shehu Ahmadu (all retired) and Habor Bay International Limited on a 4-count charge of criminal conspiracy preferred against them by the EFCC.The naval chiefs whilst in office allegedly bought a house worth N600million from the account of Naval Engineering Services without budgetary provision. It was also alleged that the documentation for transfer of ownership of the property was done such that a private company owned by the family of the first defendant (Vice Admiral Jibrin) became the buyer. At the sitting today, counsel to the EFCC, Faruk Abdallah, informed the court he had two pending applications seeking to tender documents in evidence. “The first is the Appropriation Act of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2013 and 2014.The second application is the appropriation Act of the National Assembly for 2013 and 2014 Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. This court is enjoined by the Evidence Act to take judicial notice of these documents”, Abdallah prayed. In response, Y.C Maikyau, SAN, counsel to Jibrin, objected saying, “I oppose the admission of the documents, the proper starting point is to properly situate the type of document sought to be tendered.” Citing Section 106 of the Evidence Act, Maikyau said that, “what prosecution applied is an Act of the National Assembly, particularly 2013 and 2014”.According to him, “An Act of National Assembly is a public document written by public official”. Arguing further he said, “An Act of the National Assembly through the start to the end is a legislative process that must start and end with the assent of the president. The process must be a matter of law to the point of printing before the Act can be receivable in evidence”. The learned silk submitted that “the bundle of documents brought before your Lordship are not so printed or a Gazette in accordance to laws as to make them receivable in evidence. We, therefore, urged your Lordship to reject the documents”. Responding, Abdallah cited Section 122 (1) (2) of the Evidence Act which says, “whether the documents we seek to tender complied with the Act or not it can be seen in the Act itself”. While urging the court to take judicial notice of the Appropriation Act of 2013 and 2014, the EFCC’s counsel said, “What we seek to tender was an order, an official communication”. He urged the court to discountenance the argument of the defence and admit the documents in evidence. After listening to the submissions of counsels, Justice Umar adjourned for a ruling. Earlier, the judge had rejected in evidence documents from the budget office of the Federation obtained by the EFCC, which the Prosecution sought to tender. It would be recalled that, at the last hearing date (May 22, 2017), the prosecution witness, Idris Wakili, a staff of the budget office, presented a certified true copy of the budget of the Nigeria Navy for 2013 and 2014 but Maikyau objected its admissibility on the grounds that, “the same documents earlier tendered by the prosecution and rejected by the court for non-certification are being represented”. Though, Abdallah argued frantically to the effect that, the issues were not the same and that the prosecution had listed a staff of the budget office as a witness in the proof of evidence, Justice Umar in his ruling today, held that “the documents are the same” and marked it “rejected”. Further hearing on the case has been adjourned to July 13 and 14, 2017. http://politicsngr.com/2017/06/14/jibrins-alleged-n600-million-fraud-trial-court-adjourns-june-16/ cc: lalasticlala

Nigeria's senate president, Bukola Saraki has stated that he bear no grudge against anyone following his win at the CCT trial on Wednesday. In a statement made available to Politics Nigeria, Saraki stated; Today, June 14, 2017, the Code of Conduct Tribunal sitting in Abuja discharged and acquitted me on a case of false declaration of assets, which started in September 2015. You would recall that at the beginning of the trial, I maintained that I will clear my name. The conclusion of this trial has vindicated my position. With the outcome of this case, our faith is renewed in our courts and our hope is restored that the judiciary in our country could indeed provide sanctuary for all those who seek justice. I thank the Almighty Allah, the ultimate Judge and the repository of all powers. He alone has brought about this victory. I am immensely grateful to all my colleagues in the National Assembly for their abiding support. All through my trial, they demonstrated their strong conviction about the choice we all decided to make two years ago. I thank members of my family for their unflinching support. I thank all friends and supporters back home in Kwara State and across the length and breadth of our country for their prayers and their sacrifices. My gratitude also goes to all members of my legal team for their tireless efforts to ensure the cause of justice is served. After undergoing the crucible of a tortuous trial, my vindication today calls for celebration. It is my belief however that if there should be any celebration at all, it should be a celebration of the hopes that this judgment gives us as citizens that despite all the challenges that we face as a country, we are well on our way to building a country where the innocent needs not be afraid. I therefore urge all my supporters to refrain from any unbridled triumphalism. The challenges that our country faces today are enormous and do not allow for wanton celebration. Instead, we should all reflect on the significance of this moment and what it meant for our democracy. On a personal note, I harbour no grudge against anyone, regardless of the role they might have played in the persecution that I had endured in the last two years. I believe that If my trial had in anyway given hope to the common man that no matter the forces arraigned against him, he can still get justice in our courts, then my tribulation had not been in vain. Once again, I thank my colleagues in the 8th Senate for standing firm. Regardless of the distraction of my trial, we have achieved more as legislators than the previous Senates. Now that this distraction is over, we can even achieve so much more. We must now proceed from here with greater vigour to deliver on the expectations of Nigerians and show that this 8th Senate can indeed play a central role in improving the quality of lives of our people. Lastly, I thank all the gentlemen of the press for your abiding interest in this case, which I believe had contributed in no small measure in ensuring that truth and reason ultimately prevailed. http://politicsngr.com/2017/06/14/bear-no-grudge-anyone-saraki-speaks-cct-trial-win/

Senator Magnus Ngei Abe, Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, has advised Governor Nyesome Wike and his People's Democratic Party (PDP) cohorts to be serious for once in matters of state security in the interest of the state. In a statement issued in Port Harcourt and signed by his spokesperson, Mr Parry Saroh Benson, wondered why Governor Wike and his PDP hirelings would not take the advice of a ranking senator with regard to the insecurity in the state but rather chose to play politics with it. The statement recalled that some time ago, Senator Abe had spoken about the insecurity in the state, but unfortunately, trivialised the issue only to admit there was insecurity and subsequently set up the State Amnesty Programme headed by Hon. Kenneth Chinda. The statement added that Abe had spoken again about the same insecurity in the state. It stated that common sense and reason would have made the government to think towards the direction with a view to tackling the situation. It said rather than act in this direction as a responsible government, the Rivers State governor and the People's Democratic Party chose to trivialize the matter again by accusing Senator Abe to have armed the boys. The statement denied the accusation of the PDP as lacking in substance, which is intended to make a joke of a serious matter. It stated that investors are fast leaving the state, which had nothing to do with the assumed factionalisation of APC as claimed by the PDP press statement. It advised PDP to mind their business, adding that APC has the mechanism to settle their differences if any. The statement said every patriotic and sincere Rivers person should be concerned about the increasing insecurity in the state and wondered why the government should not heed to the patriotic call of Distinguished Senator Magnus Abe. It said that Ogoni youths are behind Senator Abe and believe in him. It further said that Senator Abe beginning with the present Federal budget had outlined some of his progressive projects that would be of immense benefit to the youths and that Ogoni youths are looking forward to their accomplishments. http://politicsngr.com/2017/06/14/serious-senator-magnus-abe-fires-wike-security/ cc: lalasticlala
