PoliticsHausa And Yoruba Clash In Akure (Photos, Video) by itsdumebi(op): 9:56am On Apr 23, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Hausa and Yoruba youths engaged in a serious fight on Sunday over the invasion of Sabo Market by Masquerades in Akure, Ondo state.

The clash led to the destruction of goods and properties worth millions of naira. PoliticsNGR gathered that no fewer than six motorcycles, three vehicles and at least three buildings were burnt down during the clash.

The bloody clash, which started around 5 pm, led to the injury of not less than 6 people, spreading to the Ima'gun and araromi areas of Akure.

Ibrahim Idris, one of the Hausa youths who confirmed that many shops were looted during the violent clash said the problem began when some masquerades were led into the market by some Yoruba youths.

"We were sitting here and transacting our business when some of the Yoruba boys led their Masquerades into Sabo market. And while they were all walking into the Sabo market, they began to beat and flog us with the canes in their hands.

"As if that was not enough, many of them forced their way to our shops and looted our goods while hurling abuses on us. In fact, they entered one of the mosques and started molesting those praying and that was how the violent fight started," Idris said.

Another eyewitness, Tunji Abayomi said;

"The fight started around 5 pm when the boys led the Masquerades from Ugele on Ado road into the Sabo Market in Akure. The plan was to lead the masquerades to greet one of the Akure Chiefs known as Chief Elejoka as parts of tradition inside the Sabo market.

"But things became twisted when they entered into Sabo with the masquerades and the Hausas were moving on with their businesses without any fear. This infuriated the Yoruba boys leading the masquerades as they began to beat and flog anyone (mostly Hausa) in sight.

One of the Hausas was angered by the beating and decided to pull off the mask of one of the masquerades and this led to a heavy fight and violent clash".

Meanwhile, security operatives have been drafted to the Sabo market and the adjoining streets in order to restore normalcy and avoid reprisal attacks.

Major Ojo Adelegan, the spokesperson of the 32 Artillery Brigade of Nigerian Army, Akure said the situation has been brought under control

PoliticsWhy Jonathan Is Responsible For Dividing Nigeria Not Buhari - Keyamo by itsdumebi(op): 9:41am On Apr 21, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Human rights lawyer and newly appointed Strategic Communications DG for the Muhammadu Buhari 2019 presidential campaign, Festus Keyamo has said that President Buhari did not divided Nigeria along ethnic and religious lines.

He disclosed that the division started during President Goodluck Jonathan's time in power, adding that Jonathan used it during the 2015 election campaign period. He told Sun;

"In 2015, you saw that this country was divided by the North/South sentiments and the Christians/ Muslim sentiments. Who made it happen?

In 2015, who used religion to campaign? Certainly not Buhari, he did not go to mosque publicly begging Imams and praying in the Mosque, lying down before Imams to bless him and tell their followers to vote for him. He (Buhari) did not do that, so when you say the country is more divided, is it as a result of him? Certainly no. It was because of the dynamism of the politics that brought him into office; the politics of that time under former President Goodluck Jonathan.

But luckily for us, God is a kind God, because you know what? On 2019, those people who preached evil against the Hausa – Fulani, those who told their people that these people are not good, those who told their people not to vote for Hausa /Fulani people because they have a mentality of born to rule, these are the same people that have zoned their presidential ticket to the North now.

So you know what? They will now go back to the same people that they preached hatred against to undo what they did. They will now see themselves cap in hands, with shame on their faces, they will go back to their people and say, the Hausa/ Fulani are not too bad, let us vote for them. And on that day, their people will question their integrity, but you told us in 2015 that the Hausa/ Fulani are not good people, why did you give your ticket to them now?"

PoliticsStolen Mace: Omo-agege Fights Back, Blocks Police, DSS From Arresting Him by itsdumebi(op): 7:42pm On Apr 19, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Senator Ovie Omo-agege has successfully secured a court order blocking the Nigerian police force and the Department of state security services, DSS, from arresting him over yesterday's invasion of the Senate by thugs loyal to him.

Agege was arrested by the police shortly after his thugs stole the senate's mace and absconded. He was later released.

PoliticsNGR learned that an Abuja High Court, on Thursday, granted the Delta senator an interim order restraining the police, the Department of State Services (DSS) and other law enforcement bodies from arresting him.

He has also denied claims that he staged the incident.

Omo-Agege’s lawyers approached the court on Thursday to seek an interim injunction against arrest or detention of the senator.

The team of lawyers led by Aliyu Umar, a senior advocate of Nigeria (SAN) were successful in getting the restraining order as the presiding Judge, Ishaq Bello, the presiding judge, consequently granted all their prayers.

PoliticsFemi Adesina Reacts To Buhari's "Nigerian Youths Are Lazy, Uneducated" Comment by itsdumebi(op): 4:18pm On Apr 19, 2018
Below is a statement signed by the president's media aide, Femi Adesina;

At the Commonwealth Business Forum in London on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, President Muhammadu Buhari gave a keynote address on Making Business Easier Between Commonwealth Countries. The presentation was followed by a discussion, and question and answer session.

Responding to a question, President Buhari had cause to talk about some Nigerian youths, and he said: " We have a very young population; our population is estimated conservatively to be 180 million. More than 60 per cent of the population is below the age of 30. A lot of them have not been to school and they are claiming that Nigeria has been an oil producing country, therefore they should sit and do nothing and get housing, healthcare and education free.”
Typical of their stock in trade, manipulators and twisters of statements of Mr President, who lie in wait to make mischief, interpreted the comment to mean that President Buhari had taken all Nigerian youths to the cleaners. But elementary English recognizes a wide gulf between "a lot of" and the word "all." How can "a lot of them," suddenly transmogrify to mean “all of them?” Mischievous and unconscionable!

There is no way President Buhari, father of the Nigerian nation in every sense of the word, who equally has biological children of his own in the youths age bracket, pass a vote of no confidence on all youths. It can only exist in the imagination of those who play what the President has described as "irresponsible politics" with everything.

President Buhari has always applauded and celebrated Nigerian youths who excel in different areas of endeavour, from sports, to academia, and other realms. And he will continue to do so, because he values the youths, and knows that they are the fulcrum on which the future of the country rests.

Indeed, every country has its share of idle population, and it is the bounden duty of government at all levels, to create an enabling environment for them to actualize their potentials. That is what President Buhari is committed to doing.

The focal areas of the administration; securing the country, reviving the economy, and fighting corruption, are actually intended to give youths a future and a hope. This much was emphasized in an April 5, 2018 comment by President Buhari, while receiving Letter of Credence from the Head of Delegation of the European Union to Nigeria, when he said: " Our insistence on probity is to encourage people to be accountable, and accept honesty as a lifestyle so as to secure the future of our youths.’’ The President also said more than 60 percent of Nigerians fall into the age category of youths and deserve to inherit a stable and prosperous country that they can be proud of, adding that the government will work assiduously to prevent waste and the depletion of resources by corrupt Nigerians.

It is futile for mischief makers to lie in wait, and take a minor part of the words of the President, and turn it into negative commentary, peradventure they could diminish the profile of the President. Nigerians across all walks of life know who is serving them faithfully and truly, and they will always reciprocate such fidelity as occasions demand.

BusinessJim Ovia: Fintech And The Future Of The Nigerian Banking Industry by itsdumebi(op): 5:01pm On Apr 09, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

With the saturation of the mobile phone market in Nigeria and the advent of Financial Technology startups (FINTECH) in the financial services industry, the Nigerian polity has witnessed higher financial inclusion amongst the underbanked and unbanked.

In a recent interview with BBC, the Founder/Chairman of Zenith Bank Plc, Mr. Jim Ovia expressed the role of FINTECH in local banking in Nigeria.

Mr. Ovia stated that with an operational FINTECH system in place, there would be more inclusiveness of all and sundry in the economy; transactions and payments will be done efficiently and transparently; one may not necessarily need a banking license to establish how payment systems are done – a rare opportunity to digitize the economy.

He explained that contrary to popular assumptions, FINTECH is not a threat to the banking institutions but rather a strategic partnership to better serve the needs of customers.

In the face of a myriad of infrastructural deficits that flaws the impetus of FINTECH in the Nigerian context, Mr. Ovia singled out broadband provision as the major area yet to be fully explored and developed. To which, he called on the regulators to create and allocate more spectrum. He voiced his optimism at Nigeria’s achievement with the mobile market penetration at over 90% and added that broadband connectivity is next.

The economic potentials for FINTECH in Nigeria is vast. The Financial Inclusion Summit 2016 report revealed that the use of digital finance could boost annual GDP by $3.7 trillion by 2025 in emerging economies like Nigeria. According to the report, this avenue presents the opportunity to add 10% to 12% to the country’s GDP.

Politics2019 Elections: APC Fires Tunde Bakare Over Scathing Attack On Buhari by itsdumebi(op): 6:05pm On Jan 29, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The leadership of APC Youths Renaissance has reacted to the scathing remarks made against President Muhammadu Buhari by the General Overseer of the Latter Rain Assembly Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare.

The group said Pastor Bakare has formed the habit of constantly criticizing the government without providing single solution to the numerous problems facing the country.

The group wondered why Pastor Bakare who has every access to President Buhari could not put his observations on paper and passed them to Mr. President for immediate action but chose to do otherwise in the public glare.

The group however enjoined the pastor to stop using the pulpit to advance his political aspiration, asking him to run for an election if he thinks governance is easy.

The group further advised politicians who have developed the habit of constantly bashing the President to equally form the habit of constantly providing solutions to the many challenges facing the country.

A situation where the likes of Bakare and his fellow armchair critics chose to make themselves cheap heroes in the public domain, we will have no other option than to expose their dirty dealings in the secret by sending our advanced team to probe their secret lifestyles.

PoliticsLai Mohammed Replies Obasanjo's Letter To Buhari (Full Statement) by itsdumebi(op): 6:15pm On Jan 24, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

Minister of Information and Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress,APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has responded to Ex-president, Olusegun Obasanjo's letter to Buhari.

In a statement obtained by PoliticsNGR, Lai Mohammed listed Buhari's achievements and gave reasons for the government's problems. The statement read;

"We have read the press statement by former President Olusegun Obasanjo on the State of the Nation.

For the record, Chief Obasanjo is a patriot, and he has proven this time and time again. We appreciate what he said concerning the Administration's performance in two out of the three key issues that formed the plank of its campaign: Fighting corruption and tackling insurgency. Specifically, the former President said President Buhari must be given credit for his achievement so far in these two areas. We thank him for this.

Apparently, the former President believes that the Administration does not deserve a pass mark in the area of the economy, which is the third of our three-pronged campaign promises.

We have no doubt that in the face of massive challenges in this area, this Administration has availed itself creditably. We believe that Chief Obasanjo, because of his very busy schedule, may not have been fully availed of developments in the government's efforts to revamp the economy, which was battered by the consequences of over-dependence on a commodity as well as unprecedented pillaging of the treasury.

Today, most of the indices by which an economy is measured are looking up. Permit me to say, however, that Nigeria would not have exited recession through a mere order or if the Administration had not made use of ''good Nigerians'' who could help.

This Administration is making steady progress in its determined effort to revamp the economy, and the results are showing:

* Foreign Reserves have peaked at $40b, the highest level in about four years, and up from $24 billion just a year ago, even though when we came in, the price of oil had crashed woefully.

* According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBC), headline inflation has fallen for 11 consecutive months, standing at 15.37% as at Dec. 2017. This is the lowest inflation rate since Jan 2017, and it has met and surpassed the target set for inflation in the Administration's Economic Recovery and Growth Plan (ERGP).

* Our determined implementation of the Treasury Single Account (TSA) has stopped the hemorrhaging of the treasury. Some 108 billion Naira has been saved from removal of maintenance fees payable to banks, pre-TSA. The nation is being saved 24.7 billion Naira monthly with the full implementation of the TSA.

* The elimination of ghost workers has saved the nation 120 billion Naira

* At about 1.8 billion dollars, the capital inflows in the second quarter of 2017 were almost double the $908 million in the first quarter.

* In the wake of a stable Naira and increased investment inflows, Nigeria’s stock market emerged one of the best-performing in the world, delivering returns in excess of 40 percent.

* Nigeria rose 24 places on the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business ranking, and earned a place on the List of Top 10 Reformers in the world.

* According to Q3 2017 figures, agriculture export is up year-on-year by 25%, solid minerals exports are up year-on-year by 78%, raw materials exports are up 70% year-on-year and manufactured goods exports are up 22% year-on-year.

* Government agencies such as the Nigeria Customs Service are reporting highest-ever revenue collection, while JAMB, under the new management appointed by President Buhari in 2016, remitted N7.8 billion to the coffers of the federal government.

The total amount remitted by JAMB between 2010 and 2016 was a paltry N51 million!
These positive indices may not have immediately impacted positively on Nigerians, but Nigerians will definitely get a new lease of life a short while from now. This is because the good news from the agricultural sector, which is recording a bumper harvest, will bring down the cost of foodstuffs, especially such staple as rice, and our massive Social Investment Programme will ease the pain of the most vulnerable in the society.

When we assumed office in 2015, some 6 million farmers were involved in rice production. Thanks to the Anchor Borrowers' programme of this Administration, we have grown that number to over 12 million farmers. The result is that our rice import from Thailand alone has dropped from 644 metric tonnes to 22,000 MT in just two years. This is phenomenal.

Apart from rice, Nigeria is also doing well in other grains,
especially Millet, Sorghum and Maize. We are now the second largest producer of sorghum after the US, the third in millet after India and our breweries are now enjoying local sourcing of those commodities.

For maize, we are producing 10 million tons while we need about 13 million tons for both human and animal nutrition. Nigeria leads the world in the yam and cassava production. We account for 70% of the world's yam production. In two years, we hope to be the world's largest exporter of yam! Overall, our ambition is that agriculture should rise from 25% to 40% of GDP, so that we can banish poverty and overcome our economic anxiety.

Our Social Investment Programme is Nigeria’s most ambitious social welfare programme ever. Currently, 5.2 million primary school children in 28,249 schools in 19 states are being fed daily; 200,000 unemployed graduates have enlisted into the N-power Job Scheme, and a quarter of a million loans already distributed to artisans, traders, and farmers.

Finally, our investment in infrastructure is simply unprecedented. This is because infrastructure is key to faster economic growth and development.

Here is a synopsis of what we have done in this area:
* Power Generation at an all-time high of 7,000mw and all can be transmitted

* RAIL: Lagos-Kano Standard Gauge is on. Lagos-Ibadan sector ready 2019, Kano-Kaduna ready 2019; The entire stretch ready 2021; Negotiations on for Coastal Rail covering 15 cities from Lagos to Calabar.

* ROAD: 25 major highways being funded with the N100b Sukuk Bond, and all geo-political zones are benefitting equally

This Administration is not unaware of the enormity of the challenges facing the nation, but we are up to the task. We have taken the bull by the horns, and long-suffering Nigerians will begin to experience a new lease of life as our efforts yield fruits. We will not go into a state of funk for whatever reason.

On the Herders/Farmers' clashes, this Administration is determined to end the crisis resulting from this once and for all, not minding the fact that the clashes predate us. we urge Nigerians to have faith in the Administration's ability to resolve the crisis, and to watch out for concrete measures in this regard.

On whether or not President Muhammadu Buhari should run for another term, it is true that many Nigerians have been calling on the President to run again, while others are opposed to his return. However, we believe this issue is a distraction for the President at this time. This is because Mr. President spends every waking hour tackling the enormous challenges facing the nation, most of which were bequeathed to his Administration by successive past Administrations. He is committed to fulfilling the mandate given to him by Nigerians in 2015. And that's where we are right now!

Finally, we have no reason to believe that former President Obasanjo has any motive beyond the well-being of the nation in issuing his Special Press Statement. We have also taken his admonition in good faith, and we thank him most sincerely for taking time off his busy schedule to pen such a long statement.

PoliticsFulani Herdsmen: Northern Elders Disown Paul Unongo Over Comment On Atiku by itsdumebi(op): 10:13pm On Jan 07, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The Northern Elders Forum has dissociated itself from recent comments on the Fulani Herdsmen killings attributed to its leader, Paul Unongo.

Unongo made headlines last week when he accused former vice president, Atiku Abubakar of being behind the Fulani Herdsmen attacks in Benue state.

Below is a statement signed by the Deputy chairman of the forum, Alhaji Sani Daura;

" The attention of the Northern Elders Forum has been drawn to yet another report of partisan statement made by its leader, Chief Paul Unongo directed against the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

The Forum regrets to have to publicly disown yet another controversy by Unongo in this recent times.

While Chief Unongo reserves the right to hold and express personal views against any issue, he however does not have the right to drag the entire Forum into unnecessary controversies at will.

We therefore advice that if Chief Unongo has any grudges against any personality or group, he should vent them in his personal capacity and not use the platform of the Forum.
Again we are not aware that President Muhammadu Buhari has refused to heed our advice on this matter as there was never any such advice contrary to Unongo's claim in the report.

It is on record that since inception six years ago, the Forum has never been this controversial in its approach to issues and never committed itself on anything without finding solid grounds.

But since the transition that followed the death of its founder and pioneer leader, the Danmasanin Kano Alhaji Maitama Sule, it has unnecessarily been dragged from one controversy to another.

Without blaming any person or group, the Northern Elders Forum hereby condemns the unnecessary killings in Kaduna, Plateau, Benue and Kogi states and indeed other parts of the north and the country generally.

We call on government to urgently act against such wanton lawlessness by identifying the perpetrators and dealing with them in the same way other disturbances in the Northeast and other parts of the country are being dealt with."

PoliticsNigeria May Collapse If Buhari Returns In 2019 - Action Democratic Party(adp) by itsdumebi(op): 8:25pm On Jan 07, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The Action Democratic Party (ADP) has said that Nigeria is likely to collapse if the All Progressive Congress (APC) government led by President Buhari returns to power in 2019.

In a statement issued by the ADP Lagos spokesman, Prince Adelaja Adeoye in Lagos on Sunday, he noted that the country has been reversed two decades based on the largely analog and outdated approach to governance by Buhari.

“The recently released report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) where over 10 million Nigerians have lost their jobs since 2015 is a deal breaker for a government that promised Nigerians 3 million jobs a year.

We now have an unemployment rate of 18.7% even though some claim that it could be more the party said. This is just in less than 3 years of this APC government and is a clear pointer to the danger that a Buhari return poses. The impact of Buhari’s maladministration is terribly telling on the citizens," Adelaja noted.

The party stressed further that Nigerians must obtain their permanent voters’ cards to vote out Buhari in 2019. Adelaja urged citizens not to allow rigging and ensure that their votes count. He said they are aware of the plans by APC to use security forces to intimidate voters and rig the 2019 elections, stating that the party is ready to sensitize Nigerians on the danger ahead if Buhari should want to foist himself on the country beyond 2019.

“The extension of the tenure of service chiefs was the first in the unfolding of Buhari’s plans and the continuous retention of Aminat Zakari, his relative in INEC is another plot to rig the 2019 polls,” he added. The party however said, it is battle ready to thwart all the plans of the president but requires the support of well meaning Nigerians. Adelaja said that ADP is the only party with clean and formidable structures capable of defeating Buhari in 2019."

"The party also expresses concern that since Buhari took over power as the President, the bloodletting that has followed has been mind boggling. Tragedies such as the Agatu massacre, Southern Kaduna massacre, Killings and maiming by Fulani herdsmen in different parts of the country, IPOB massacre, Shiites massacre and Rann Murders where over 300 innocent Nigerians were bombed “accidentally” and others have been alarming.

The murderous activities of terrorists disguised as herdsmen has created a dark cloud over a once peace loving nation."
"As regards the documentary of the President being aired, he said, “It is now very clear that Buhari is inhumane; because even in the midst of the confusion and failures of his government, his aides are trying to convince Nigerians that he has a ‘human side’ through the TV documentary. A documentary that is been aired even as citizens slept in the petrol stations on Christmas day in a bid to buy the product. We believe that Buhari lacks the character, capacity and competence to move Nigeria forward and thus, does not deserve another chance to avoid a total ruin of the country,” Adelaja added."

"ADP said apart from all the bloodletting happening under his nose, he is the President who has jacked up petrol prices by a higher margin than any other Nigerian president throughout history. The party said that the era of having a president who fraudulently doubles as the petroleum minister but doesn’t have the common decency to address the suffering citizens he supposedly governs, will come to an end soon."

ADP urges Buhari to heed warnings from notable Nigerians who have been prevailing on him not to seek reelection in 2019, that the same citizens who voted for him overwemingly in 2015 are now against him, that he should retire peacefully back to his country home in Daura.

"The party reiterated it's committement to put forward a credible candidate as Buhari's replacement in 2019, stating that ADP was formed as a credible alternative, the third force Nigerians have been waiting for to address the agitation and all the sufferings the past governments including the sixteen years of corruption under PDP has caused the innocent Nigerians."

PoliticsEdo Government Arrests BUA Workers, Army Seizes Explosives (Photos) by itsdumebi(op): 5:26pm On Jan 03, 2018
The Edo State Government and security agencies comprising men of the Nigerian Army, the Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Department of State Services (DSS) in the state on Wednesday stormed the disputed Obu mine site and arrested two employees of BUA International Limited over violation of a Stop Work order issued by the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel.

Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki ordered the arrest of the two employees of BUA International Limited when he visited the site and discovered that work was ongoing despite relaying directives from the Federal Government on a stop-work order pending the determination of a court suit over the ownership of the mine site.

Obaseki said that the state government was more interested in the security of lives and property and that much as there was need for investors to make returns on their investment, no money is worth any life.

He said: "There is a dispute over the ownership of this mine site. The dispute is in court. There was specific instruction from the Minister of Mines and Steel Development asking that work should stop pending the outcome of the matter before the court. I addressed a section of the Okpella community who came to me to express concerns about the growing tension in the community because of the dispute.

"At that point, I issued instructions that the work should stop in line with the Federal Government directive and the case in court. I said that status quo be maintained until the determination of the case in court. I think that is the simple, commonsensical thing to do. There is a quarrel and all parties should maintain peace and the status quo."

He said it was regrettable that having gotten the directive, the management of BUA International Limited went on air to say that the state government has no authority and right to enforce a federal government directive.

According to him, “What they are saying in essence is that government does not matter. That sort of utterance and position is very dangerous for our country for a company that needs government to treat us with such disdain. With this, things will degenerate into anarchy. How can they operate in such an environment. We don't care who owns what, but human life is more expensive than whatever money anybody can make.”

It was gathered that there are ten other mine sites aside the disputed one, and with the stop work order, BUA International Limited could mine from its other sites in the area to sustain its production.

The Commander of 4 Brigade, Major General Ibrahim Garba, who led the Army personnel to the enforcement exercise, directed that explosives being used for the mining activities be confiscated, adding, "We gave permission for the explosives to be used here. But now, they would be sent to the brigade headquarters."

Speaking at the Palace of the Okuokphellagbe of Okpella, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Andrew Dirisu, Obaseki said the visit to the site was to assure the people of the area that government was on top of the situation and to ensure peace in the community.

"With the action we have taken now, we know there would be pressure on the concerned parties to resolve the situation," he added.

Alhaji Dirisu reiterated that the people want peace in the area, noting, "There is no way we wouldn't welcome people to invest. But what we want is for everyone to take what they get and no one should take from another. For now, as you have given your order, who are we to dispute it. I thank you for calling for peace in this matter."

PoliticsHijab Saga: MURIC Submits Memorandum To House Of Reps by itsdumebi(op): 2:51pm On Jan 03, 2018
@POLITICSNGR

The Muslim rights concern group has submitted a memorandum to the Federal house of Representatives concerning the 'injustice' meted out to a Muslim student, Firdaus Amasa.

Amasa made headlines late last year after she refused to remove her hijab in order to be called to bar. Below is a statement made available to PoliticsNGR from MURIC, signed by its leader, Prof. Ishaq Akintola;

The Committee on Judiciary and Justice of the House of Representatives was mandated on Wednesday 20th December, 2017 to investigate the circumstances surrounding Law School hijabgate. A law graduate of the University of Ilorin, AbdulSalaam Firdaus Amasa, was barred from ‘call to bar’ by the Nigerian Law School. The committee was given two weeks for the assignment.
The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has since dispatched its memorandum to the committee.

In summary, MURIC’s memorandum which was addressed to the Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary and Justice and entitled “Memorandum in Respect of Call to Bar Case in the School of Law”, affirmed the mandatory nature of hijab for Muslim women in the Qur’an and restated the provisions of the Nigerian constitution on freedom of religion and respect for the dignity of the human person. The memorandum also revealed previous court decisions in favour of hijab including a Court of Appeal pronouncement confirming the right of Muslim women to use hijab.

MURIC appealed to the House of Representatives to “stand up for justice in this matter of infringement of Allah-given fundamental right of a lady who, having satisfied all righteousness in the Faculty of Law, University of Ilorin, is being denied her right to practice the law profession on account of her being a Muslim”.
The memorandum also stated that the Law School Hijabgate has brought to the fore the myriad of persecutions faced by Muslim women because of hijab in various sectors.

It adds, “In the process, thousands of Muslims have been denied international passports, driving licences and national identity cards while millions have been disenfranchised during elections. It is a case of mass profiling of Muslims.”

It added, “We therefore appeal to the House of Representatives as the voice of the voiceless and the bulwark against oppression and persecution, to take the bull by the horn by criminalizing the obstruction, denial and stigmatisation of female Muslim women in hijab while carrying out their civic responsibilities like obtaining international passport, driving licence, voters’ registration card, etc.

MURIC concluded by seeking the following reliefs:
1. Immediate ‘call to bar’ for AbdulSalaam Firdaus Amasa;

2. A judicial inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the molestation of Muslim students who were forced to remove their hijab on that fateful day;

3. Identification and adequate disciplinary measure (or measures) in respect of the Law School female lecturer who stepped on the hijab of Firdaus and debased it by using her feet to rub it on the floor and “kicked it around”;

4. a review of the code of dressing in the Nigerian Law School as it affects the ‘manifestation’ of religious beliefs and

5. a review of the dress code in all professions where uniforms are used such that female Muslims in such professions can use suitable hijab along with the uniform.

BusinessMan Closes Company Account With GT Bank Over Innoson Saga(photo) by itsdumebi(op): 1:59pm On Dec 20, 2017
@POLITICSNGR

A man identified as Chukwudi Iwuchukwu has allegedly shut down his bank account with Guaranty trust bank following the recent issue the bank has with Innoson motors boss, Chief Innocent Chukwuma.

It will be recalled that Chukwuma was arrested by the Economic and financial crimes commission, EFCC, in Enugu on Tuesday morning. He accused GTB of being behind his ordeal because of a debt the bank owed him.

Iwuchukwu took to Facebook to announce his decision;

This morning, I walked into the nearest GTB branch and requested for a form to close our company account with them.

The gorgeous lady who attended to me wanted to know why I was closing the account and moving the funds to Zenith bank.

I told her is very simple! I’m taking this action as a form of protest to the bank for the way they handled the Innoson saga and most importantly, for victimizing the man simply because of business transaction that went wrong.

Not only this, I have been on the phone since morning talking to 2 of my friends who are billionaires and who have billions of their company’s fund with the bank to move it as well.

Thank God they have done that, one authorized his accountant to move the funds from GTB to first bank, the other one from GTB to Zenith bank

The lady was dazed and I think it is very important the management of GTB get this memo.

I’m not a tribalist, I avoid tribal sentiments
but you see there is a limit to what you see and observe happening to your people without taking action to protest.

What Innoson is going through in the hands of GTB is corporate wickedness and witchcraft.

I call on young And older entrepreneurs who have their business funds in that bank should move it today, not tomorrow but today in solidarity with our brother, jewel and one of our brightest son who slept in EFCC custody last night because of GTB.

We need to boycott GTB for being a useless bank and boycott them for good.

They are not the only bank in Nigeria.

Nonsense!

PoliticsExcess Crude Account: Yari Has Exposed Amaechi, El-rufai As Liars - Reno Omokri by itsdumebi(op): 8:42am On Dec 20, 2017
@POLITICSNGR

Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri has reacted to the $1 billion withdrawal from the Excess crude account stating that Zamfara state governor and chairman of the Nigerian governors forum, Abdulazeez Yari has exposed Rotimi Amaechi, Nasir El-rufai, Adams Oshiomole and the APC as liars.

Below is a statement by Omokri;

In an attempt to justify the dubious process by which $1 Billion was taken from the Excess Crude Account by the Federal Government ostensibly to fund an anti terror war with the same Boko Haram that the Buhari administration said was ‘finished’ and ‘technically defeated’, the Zamfara state Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, who is also the Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum made some startling revelations which has exposed him to ridicule and further shown that his party, the All Progressive Congress, and its members, are a patently dishonest bunch with no credibility whatsoever.

Speaking yesterday (Tuesday 19th December, 2017) at Aso Rock Presidential villa, Alhaji Yari said of the $1 Billion withdrawal as follows:

“This thing (ECA withdrawal) has been done in 2014 where $2bn was withdrawn in agreement with the governors at that meeting. Governor Akpabio was the one that moved the motion. This is not the first time a decision like this is being taken. It happened during Jonathan’s era when they took $2bn . WE ALL AGREED at that time collectively in the same chamber to withdraw $2bn to procure equipment for the military and also for logistics for the military. That was what generated discussions at the same chamber and there was NO CONTROVERSY, there was NO OPPOSITION to the decision at that time.”

Notice from this statement that Alhaji Abdulaziz Yari, an APC member, is now admitting that he and his colleagues in the APC all agreed to the withdrawal of $2 billion from the Excess Crude Account that was made in 2014. Note further that he said there was no controversy and no opposition to the decision taken in 2014.

However, Nigerians may recall that at the material time when this incident occurred, both the All Progressive Congress and its prominent members like the then Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, the then Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, and their National Leader, Bola Tinubu, denied that there was ever any agreement with the Jonathan administration over the withdrawals and publicly attacked the then President and accused him of looting and other forms of corruption.

In fact, in 2015, when the former Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala said exactly what Governor Yari has been forced to admit to, Governor Nasir El-Rufai (who was not even a governor in 2014 and was not present at the meeting Governor Yari has described) called Dr. Mrs. Iweala a liar and described her as ‘morally flexible’.

Then on the 1st of July, 2015, then Governor Adams Oshiomhole was interviewed on Channels television and described as untrue the statement by Dr. Mrs. Iweala that the governors under the aegis of the National Economic Council agreed to the withdrawal of $2 billion from the Excess Crude Account and called the process by which the money was withdrawn by the Jonathan administration as an “administrative arrangement not known to the constitution”.

Only as recently as last week, the fallacious Rotimi Amaechi repeated the falsehood that neither he nor his colleagues were ever consulted or gave their acquiescence before the Jonathan administration withdrew funds from the Excess Crude Account.

Again, at the material time in 2014, when the Jonathan administration tried to explain why it needed the funds to fight the same Boko Haram insurgents that the Buhari government claimed has been technically defeated, the APC released a statement and ‘described as disingenuous and sheer blackmail the argument that the money is for national security or that it would facilitate the release of the over 200 school girls who were abducted about 100 days ago.’

The APC spokesman, Lai Mohammed, who is now the minister of information further said “putting more money in the hands of an incompetent and massively corrupt administration can only encourage more incompetence and corruption.”

Not done, Mr. Lai Mohammed also claimed that the monies then President Jonathan was seeking was meant to be used to impeach APC Governors and rig the 2015 elections.

His exact words were “With the Jonathan Administration allegedly spending or setting aside an average of 2 billion Naira to impeach each Governor of APC states, and the PDP-led Administration using the common wealth to bribe voters in a desperate bid to win elections at all costs”.

Not to be outdone, the National Leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, called the request by the Jonathan administration “dubious”.

But in keeping with the principle that no matter how far and fast falsehood has traveled, it must eventually be overtaken by truth, Governor Abdulaziz Yari has now vindicated both former President Jonathan and the former minister of finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, by admitting in 2017 that both he and his colleagues (which included Rotimi Amaechi and Adams Oshiomhole) actually agreed with the Jonathan administration to withdrew $2 billion from the Excess Crude Account in 2014.

I therefore call on the Nigerian public and the international community to note that the APC and its members all lack credibility and are willing to say anything at anytime to justify their political position irrespective of whether it is true or false.

CA/1/258/2011 affirmed the Judgement of the Federal High Court and ordered GTBank to pay the Judgement debt of #2,048,737,443.67 (#2.048billion) to Innoson .

23 - GTBank , instead , appealed to the Supreme Court against the Court of Appeal's decision where GTBank claimed through a motion in suit no : Sc /694/2014, that the Court of Appeal Judgement in Ibadan (CA/I/258/2011) was procured by suspicious means .

With Innoson winning both cases at the High Court and both cases at the Appeal Court, and GTB appealing, both cases are awaiting the verdict of the Supreme Court. The directive of Lagos Commissioner of Police, Mr Edgal Imohimi to officers of the command to keep eagle eyes at venues of a gathering of people this yuletide yielded dividends with the arrest of a suspected pickpocket with seven stolen mobile phones belonging to gospel faithfuls that attended the annual musical concert tagged ‘The Experience’.

The suspect, Lateef Nurudeen of 10, Obadina Street, Lagos Island, was arrested by men of Rapid Response Squad in early December 2017 at around 12:45 a.m. at the programme in Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.

Lateef, 19 years old, who was in the company of his six other colleagues at the convention, was sighted holding a bag where he concealed the seven stolen phones.

The suspect who on interception by the officers posted to the venue of the convention told the police on interrogation that he was a barber.

On further scrutiny, Lateef claimed that he saw the bag underneath a flower bed when he couldn’t give satisfactory answer about the contents of the bag.

Found inside the bag were seven different mobiles phones, charms and purse. The purse contained identity card and ATM debit card belonging to one Chris Nkum Chinedu.

The suspect, sources revealed, confessed to being the owner of the charms found inside the bag. PoliticsNGR learnt that he used the charms for protection.

Already, investigators have identified four owners of the seven phones. The owners, who reported at the RRS headquarter in Alausa were: Ukwajiba Felix, Ekhorelen Ruth, Kpanou Estelle and Kemi Ahmed.

The four owners reported at the RRS headquarters when officers called their relatives whose numbers were found on the stolen phones.

The owners who have been looking for their mobile phones before leaving the venue of the programme noted that they didn’t know when their phones were removed from their bags and pockets.

One of the owners, Ukwajiuba, stated that immediately he discovered that his phone was missing, he reported the theft at Zone 2, Onikan, Lagos, where his details were taken.

The suspect, Lateef, an ex-convict stated that he saw the bag inside the flowers at TBS but owned up to being the owner of the charms found inside the bag. He confessed that the two charms found in the bags were for his protection, adding that he came to the church programme to pray and not to steal.

Defending being in possession of charms at church crusade, he said, “I pray a lot. The charms are for my personal protection. They have been with me for ages. They were specially prepared for my protection against evil. I came to the crusade to pray.

My friends that took to their heels when police started questioning me are confirmed troublemakers. They were at the programme only to cause commotion. That is what they do and how they make a living.

I am a troublemaker too but I came to that church programme to pray and not to steal. My friends ran because they knew I would be arrested. I pray a lot and that was why I was at the programme’, he stated.

Efforts to track down the suspect’s friends who were with him at the convention by RRS proved abortive as they have all abandoned their hideouts.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Imohimi Edgal directed that the case be transferred immediately to the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department while efforts be intensified to arrest all other suspects involved in the theft.

He ordered that the stolen phones be released to their owners once they can provide evidence of ownership.
