PoliticsCommotion Breaks Out At #resumeorresign Protest In London (video) by itsdumebi(op): 8:39am On Aug 19, 2017
Serious commotion broke out at the #ResumeorResign protest that held in London late Friday night. Individuals protesting against President Buhari's continued stay in the United Kingdom were heckled by a young man who thought otherwise.

The man identified as Femi Ajorun questioned the group's motive for the protest, calling it partisan and nonconstructive.

However, he was met with a stiff resistance as the protesters questioned his motive for attending the protest. The protesters can be heard chanting 'Buhari go home'.

Politics"We Are Not Corrupt!" - Nigerian Police To NBS by itsdumebi(op): 2:07pm On Aug 18, 2017
The Nigerian police has responded to a report by the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics(NBS) alleging that officers of the police and Judges were the most corrupt in the country.

In a statement made available to PoliticsNGR, signed by CSP Jimoh Moshood, the police said;

The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) reports published on the 16th August 2017 captioned “Police officers, judges most corrupt in Nigeria – NBS (Bribery as experienced by the population)”. The report was claimed to have been based on a survey conducted in April and May 2016 across the Thirty Six (36) States of the Federation and the FCT.

2. The deliberately ill-timed release of the findings from a survey carried out two years ago this week is coming at a time when the Nigeria Police Force has fully keyed into the change mantra of the Federal Government of Nigeria “Change Begins with Me” and total war against corruption. The Force has also established and repositioned the mechanisms of the Force responsible for fighting corruption, bribery and other corrupt tendencies within and outside the Force.

3. The Nigeria Police Force after a careful study of the report, wishes to state categorically that the report is entirely misleading, a clear misrepresentation of facts, essentially based on hearsays which made it unempirical, and the survey instrument absolutely inadequate and therefore a plain distortion of the improved situation in the Force as a result of the renewed commitment and determination to fight corruption, bribery and corrupt tendencies in the ranks of the personnel of the Force.

4. For the avoidance of doubt, since the inception of the present administration of the Nigeria Police Force in July 2016, after the reported survey has been conducted and concluded, the Inspector General of Police has introduced and implemented diverse internal reforms aimed at bringing corruption to zero level in the Force as follows:

i. To ensure that Police Officers operate within the principle of the rule of law and respect the rights of Nigerians while performing their constitutional duties of protecting lives and property and to abhor corruption, the Police formulated a new set of directive principles titled “Our Creed” to reposition the minds and hearts of every Police officer and launched with the following doctrines:

(a). We shall police the country based on international core values of policing with integrity

(b). We shall ensure that the rule of law prevails in our actions and activities

(c). We shall respect diversity, display courage, show compassion and demonstrate professionalism

(d). We shall operate within the principles of Democratic policing

(e). We shall shun corruption

(f) We shall make Nigeria safer and secured

II. Similarly, to further make police officers imbibe a culture where the rule of law forms the bedrock of our actions and activities, and give the fight against corruption the bite and new impetus, this administration has commenced the training of officers on the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA). The Act is considered an important legislation because of its innovative provisions, and every Police Officer has been enjoined to follow strictly the provisions of the Act. This will to a very large extent has been reduced and eliminated, instances of unlawful arrests, illegal detentions and inhumane treatments in the police stations across the country that can tempt officers to corruption tendencies.

III. The X-Squad Unit of the Force responsible for the arrest, detention, investigation, and prosecution of any officer found wanting and culpable of corruption, bribery or corrupt tendencies has been reinvigorated, equipped and its personnel retrained with detachments in all the Thirty-Six (36) States of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory Abuja to deal decisively with corruption allegations made against police officers to eliminate corruption in the Force.

IV. The Re-launch of Complaint Response Unit (CRU) to a more broadened Public Complaints Rapid Response Unit (PCRRU) was carried out by the current Police Management Team to facilitate dynamism and to promptly address complaints against officers of the Force bothering on corruption. This unit is responsible for receiving and attending to reports of corruption from members of the public against Police officers, it was relaunched by the Inspector General of Police in Abuja in late 2016 and subsequently launched simultaneously by Commissioners of Police in all the Commands of the Thirty Six (36) States of the Federation and the FCT last year.

V. Formation and take- off of Eminent Persons Forum across the Thirty Six (36) States of the Federation and the FCT to create public enlightenment campaign against corruption within the Force and inform the Public of the free and unhindered access to the Nigeria Police Force to report complaints of corruption against Police Officers.

5. The Nigeria Police Force has been working with critical stakeholders in the Criminal Justice System in the country’ and other local and International Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) including International Human Rights Organizations to train and re-train Police Personnel to conform to international best practices to shun and detest corruption, bribery and corruption tendencies. This has engendered a change of attitudes and good disposition in the conduct of Police Personnel throughout the country towards abstaining from corruption.

6. However, it must be pointed out that the Nigeria Police Force sees the report as a clear demonstration of mischief and calculated attempt to promote a campaign of calumny against Police Officers. Nowhere in the report were references made to either the improved transparency in the Nigeria Police Force or the sustained daily sacrifice being made by gallant officers and men of the force in confronting criminalities in the society.

7. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim K. Idris, NPM, mni wishes to reassure Nigerians and the International Community that the Nigeria Police Force will continue to fight, discourage and shun corruption, bribery and corrupt tendencies within and outside the Force, and continue to discharge its statutory responsibilities according to the rule of law despite the obvious distractions from the report.

8. The renewed determination of the Force to adhere to International Police Reforms and conform to standard principles, building trust and confidence in the citizenry and above all comply and support the Federal Government War Against Corruption remained unequivocal and unwavering.

PoliticsBiafra: Anambra Elders Support Call For Restructuring by itsdumebi(op): 1:48pm On Aug 18, 2017
The Anambra Elders Council has voiced support for the restructuring of Nigeria. In a meeting on Thursday, 17th of August, the elders attributed the agitations for Biafra to marginalization and failure to heal the wound from the civil war.

Below is communique from the meeting made available to PoliticsNGR;

Members of the Anambra State Elders Council deliberated at length on the present state of affairs in our country, Nigeria, including, in particular, the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Anambra state scheduled for 18th November 2017, and unanimously reach the following conclusions:

1. That our country, Nigeria, by all universally accepted major national indices; security of life and property, progress in socio economic development, national cohesion on political stability - is clearly underperforming and worryingly drifting towards becoming a failed state.

2. That the root cause of the underperformance is the transformation of the country's structure of governance from the true federalism carefully negotiated and agreed in the 1960/63 constitutions by the country's founding fathers to the effectively unitary structure which arose from the prolonged period of military intervention in the government of the country.

3. That there is urgent need to arresting this national drift through a restructuring government architecture by returning to a true federalism based on fewer and more viable federating units.

4. That we are convinced that restructuring will usher in greater national cohesion and a more united country where all the citizens in the component regions can pursue their self-fulfilments with equity and fairness.

5. We firmly believe that there is no part of the country that does not benefit holistically from belonging to one large Nigeria; we, therefore, see agitations currently for a republic of Biafra and potentially for a Niger Delta Republic and an Oduduwa Republic as a manifestation of strong grievances by the agitators.

In the case of Biafra induced by both perceived failure to heal the wound of the civil war and continuing marginalisation of the South East zone by the federal government, and in other cases induced by a strong conviction that the present governance structure and performance of the federal government constitute a great obstacle to the development and self-fulfilment of their people.

We call on the federal government, particularly the Executive and Legislative to urgently take steps to initiate the process of restructuring.

6. We feel compelled to draw attention to the recent quit notice given to Ndigbo by Northern Youths and support Ohaneze's efforts in this respect and call on the federal government to urgently address the matter.

7. We see great value in periodic meetings of the major stakeholders of the SE zone - Governors, Federal Ministers and Legislators, Ohaneze, prominent captains of the Cooperate Sector and Acknowledged Youth representatives to discuss and there after act on projects promoting peace and development of the Zone. The meetings of the governors and Ohaneze should be more frequent and to be followed periodically by all major stakeholders meeting.

8. We also call all concerned to ensure that the people of Anambra State are availed, without any disruptions, of the opportunity to go to the polls and elect their governor on November 18, 2017.

9. We utterly condemn the horrendous killing of innocent worshipers at St. Philips Catholic Church, Ozubulu and express our sympathy to the families of the bereaved and the wounded. We call on the law enforcement agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.

10. We see great value for peace and security in sustaining the zoning formula for political offices in the state as adopted by Ohaneze Ndi Igbo Anambra State and also as resolved respectively by the Traditional Rulers Council and Anambra State Association of Town Unions (ASATU), and call on all candidates for the governorship election and their sponsoring political parties to eschew indecorous language and violence in their political campaigns.

11. We are appalled that the representation of Anambra Central Senatorial District is still outstanding. We, therefore, call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure that the election is conducted forthwith, without further delay. We call on individuals and groups who are contributing to this impasse to put the Anambra State wider interest above their self-interests.

12. We call on all Ndi Anambra, irrespective of their political affiliations to continue to dedicate themselves to the continuation of the present peace, security, and development of the state.

13. Finally, we commendations Governor Willie Obiano for achieving security in the state, and also for the several developmental projects he has been executing in the state, including the Auto Industrial Park, which has begun to make good progress.

PoliticsNigeria Is Being Ruled By A Walking Corpse - Femi Fani Kayode by itsdumebi(op): 2:36pm On Aug 17, 2017
Chief Olufemi Fani Kayode, a former aviation minister has implied that Nigeria has turned to the laughing stock of the world as it is being ruled by a 'walking corpse'.

FFK was reacting to the president's continued medical vacation in the United Kingdom. Buhari has only stayed 78 days in Nigeria since 2017 began.

Fani-Kayode said;

"Buhari has been away from our shores for over 100 days in a stretch treating an undisclosed and mysterious illness in far-away London. Since May 29th, 2015 when he was sworn into office as President he has spent 350 of his over 740 days in power abroad treating the same strange ailment.

Meanwhile, the world laughs us to scorn and mocks our nation as one in which even a walking corpse that is clearly suffering from dementia can lead and hold sway.

We are a nation in which an Acting President who is scared of his own shadow, who appears to have lost touch with his senses and who has forgotten the history and heritage of the people that he supposedly represents.

He has been reduced to a mere national co-ordinator and that is in the power of a faceless and tiny cabal of neo-nazi racists, religious bigots, and power-hungry geriatrics.

The truth is that we are now a full-fledged dictatorship that is being controlled and presided over by a tiny cabal with a religious and ethnic agenda.

The fact that the Federal Government is incapable of encouraging national cohesion and integration but is instead saddled with a morbid obsession to try to destroy President Goodluck Jonathan and rubbish his excellent legacy speaks volumes.

The lies and propaganda of the Buhari administration are second to none. Simply put they are filled with deceit, deception, mendacity, and hate".

PoliticsCharly Boy: Biafra Will Not Change Anything, It Will Only Increase Suffering by itsdumebi(op): 2:31pm On Aug 12, 2017
Below is a letter made available to PoliticsNGR, written by Charlyboy Oputa to Igbos warning them over the Agitation for Biafra. It reads;

Letter To Fellow Biafrans: I know some of my Igbo brothers and sisters are not happy with me simply because I have not used My Brand as CharlyBoy to advocate for the clamour of The Biafran state.

However, like I always say, there is more than one way to achieve a purpose. Though I may disagree with my Igbo brothers and sisters on the choice of rhetorics and methodology, our objectives are to a large extent identical because we all want to bring an end to the marginalisation of the common peoples, by the evil cabals who are holding Nigeria to a ransom and getting away with their obnoxious impunity and criminality.

Those who truly know and have followed me know that I am not a Group soul and I have always dared to follow the path least travelled in the continuous struggle to add value to my environment.

It is indeed laughable that despite being a native chicken, Nwa afo, son of Biafran soil with a full-blown Igbotic blood, I have been persistently labelled a wannabe Yoruba, Hausa, Tiv and an Ijaw man simply because I have consistently maintained that I believe in the unity of Nigeria.

To start with, I go like tell una sey you may not be totally wrong if you call me the man from all tribes in Nigeria. This is because I believe in the oneness of all Nigerian peoples. I believe that we have gotten to a point in our national history where a Yoruba man cannot live in isolation of an Igbo man. Likewise, an Ijaw man cannot live in isolation of a Hausa/Fulani man. All tribes in Nigeria today have become a mat of interwoven fibres that cannot be segregated. There have so far been intertribal marriages, intertribal business ownership, and intertribal partnership; and countless other intertribal collaborations and relationships in Nigeria.

For this reason, my question to those agitating for secession would be that if each tribe decide to secede from Nigeria today, what then would happen? Who would lead the new nations?

Will the people be happy? Will injustice be defeated in the new societies? Will criminality end in leadership positions? Will there be happiness in the new nations? Will the people finally have a country to call their own? – These are important questions we must ask ourselves and provide answers to before we even start to beat the drums of secession.

Having said that, I must state that whereas I am a Biafran at heart, what should engage our minds is not a sectional Biafra but a national Biafra. The fight for nationalists who will drive the discourse and the engagement necessary in answering the Nigeria National Questions must not be bogged down by petty sentiments, tribal colorations, and religious propaganda. The failure of the Igbo nation and all Nigerian tribes and peoples is the fault of influence peddlers and directionless decision makers.

The crux of the Biafran agitation is that my people are tired of a system that has perpetually failed them. My Igbo kinsmen are tired of a system that enriches the rich and impoverishes the poor. My people are tired of a system that glorifies impunity and criminality. My people are tired of decades of oppression and marginalization. However, the deeply rooted disgruntlement in Biafra land is not peculiar to my Igbo brothers and sisters alone; all the common peoples in the 500 tribes in Nigeria are victims of a failed system and persistent oppression. And this is essentially where I disagree with my brother Nnamdi Kanu that though Biafra is right, it should be a national cause and not a sectional one.

Let me be clear: The Brand CharlyBoy is not only a Global brand but also a national brand that should not be reduced to a sectional brand.

The problem in this nation is not the lack of a space where we all can coexist but the lack of men of integrity and progressive nationalists. We lack the right kind of leadership that will fight for the interest of the common people. And if at all there would be an agitation, it should be geared towards sanitizing the currently bastardized Nigerian system. Our agitation for Biafra should be about having the right leaders in positions of power and not power drunken people with an insatiable appetite to plunder and loot.

Therefore, my people, I insist that the suffering of the People from the South East is also the suffering of the people from the other geopolitical zones in Nigeria. And the oppression of the Igbo people is also the oppression of all Nigerian peoples. An injury to one is an injury to all. A Biafra state is not going to change the players of the game, it will only exacerbate the sufferings of the victims of the game.

In conclusion, my people, let us dutifully work ourselves back into reckoning by fighting for Fairness, Justice, and Equality for all Nigerians; Not Ibos Only; Yorubas Only or Hausas Only but all Nigerians.

Areafada CharlyBoy
President of All Frustrated Nigerians.

PoliticsNigeria Will Never Be Restructured - Shehu Sani by itsdumebi(op): 2:19pm On Aug 12, 2017
Kaduna central senator, Shehu Sani has openly stated that Nigeria will never be restructured before or after the 2019 elections.

Sani cautioned Nigerians not to be fooled adding that politicians are engaging in cheap talks about restructuring in order to buy time before the campaign for the next round of general elections commences and then buries the issue of restructuring.

In post on his social media page, Sani wrote;

"No ‘restructuring’ will take place before 2019; it will be all talks, storms and ‘buying of time’ until the drumbeat of elections eclipse that of ‘restructuring

Restructuring will be in the campaign manual of all Nigerian political parties for 2019 general elections.

Some will even back it up with documents both soft and hard copies. Some will even share DVDs of how the polity will be restructured.After the elections then ‘the Government needs to settle down’; then the ‘Government need to study the document’,”

PoliticsOzubulu Church Killings: We Are Close To Arresting The Gunman - Obiano by itsdumebi(op): 11:52am On Aug 12, 2017
Governor Willie Obiano has revealed that security agencies are close to capturing the gunman responsible for the massacre that occurred at a Catholic church in Ozubulu, Anambra state, a week ago.

We can’t use that singular incident to judge the state. We have stopped kidnapping, assassinations and all that in the state. So, whichever way you look at it, we remain a safe state,".

Obiano disclosed that his government has taken responsibility for paying the hospital bills of people injured during the attack and the burials of the dead victims.

PoliticsPresidency: If Anything Happens To Osinbajo, Nigeria Will Break - Adebanjo by itsdumebi(op): 8:46am On Aug 12, 2017
Chief Ayo Adebanjo, a chieftain of the Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has stated that if anything happens to the acting president, Yemi Osinbajo Nigeria will cease to exist as one country.

Speaking with Sun, Adebanjo said that Osinbajo was executing his duties well and should not be ousted or removed unconstitutionally. He warned that all will not be well if Osinbajo is hindered from taking over as president should the need arise.

Quoting him;

"He is handling it, “Nigeria” constitutionally.I only hope that people will not use unconstitutional means to displace him.He is acting well and I hope there is no circumstance that anybody would say that he can truncate this democratic system using undemocratic means.

If that happens, that will be the disintegration of this country. We hope people will not use any unconstitutional means to frustrate Osinbajo if it is necessary for him to assume the Presidency."

CrimeOzubulu Church Massacre: I Am Not A Drug Baron - Bishop Ikeagwuonwu Opens Up by itsdumebi(op): 3:00pm On Aug 09, 2017
Alleged Drug Baron and the primary target of the gruesome attack that occurred in a Catholic church in Ozubulu last Sunday, Alloysius Ikeagwuonwu a.k.a Bishop has opened up, denying that he has never been a drug dealer talkless of being involved in a drug war.

Below is a press statement from Bishop made available to PoliticsNGR;

"My attention has been drawn to a social media campaign where it is alleged that I am connected to the Ozubulu church killing over a drug problem.For the avoidance of any doubt, I wish to inform the general public that I know nothing about the church killings and I have never been involved in drugs.

I have never been arrested or convicted anywhere in the world. My businesses are legitimate businesses, duly registered. Apart from warehousing and wholesale of goods, I am also a contractor involved in the construction of roads and infrastructure in Nigeria.

It’s shameful that Nigerians and the media don’t verify any story before running with them.The handwork of those who are jealous of my success and who are determined to tarnish my image is evident.

The Church killings is an unprecedented evil that deserves full investigation to unmask the perpetrators.We await investigations and a full police report of the church attack."

PoliticsI Did Not Describe Those Seeking Restructuring As Political Jobbers - Osinbajo by itsdumebi(op): 7:20pm On Aug 08, 2017
Acting President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has expressed surprise at the news report quoting Chief Ayo Adebanjo as saying he described those agitating for restructuring as political jobbers.

At no time did the Acting President say that those asking for restructuring were political jobbers looking for appointments. The video, audio tapes and full text of his speech at the National Security Summit organised last week by the Department of State Services, DSS are publicly available.

While several newspapers and media outlets reported Prof. Osinbajo’s said speech last Wednesday, not one of the publications made such a blatantly inaccurate claim that he said those asking for restructuring were political jobbers.

Besides, the debate on restructuring is an important one and the calls for restructuring cover a wide range of legitimate and constitutionally valid issues. Indeed all Nigerians have both a right and a duty to advance their arguments on the subject.

The Acting President himself has expressed support for State police based on the community policing model, advocated for devolution of powers to the States and fiscal federalism. Besides, the Buhari administration has been active in supporting State rights in several ways including in fiscal matters and will continue to do so.

PoliticsSee The Moment Charlyboy Collapsed After Being Shot With Teargas (photo) by itsdumebi(op): 6:37pm On Aug 08, 2017
The Photograph above shows the moment socialite and leader of the "Resume or Resign" protest, Charlyboy Oputa, collapsed at Unity fountain, Abuja on Tuesday after being shot with tear gas by officers of the Nigerian police force.

The policemen also fired water cannons at the peaceful protesters. The group was protesting the continued absence of President Buhari from Nigeria as he has spent 92 days in the UK for medical treatment. The group ordered that the president either resigns or resumes work.

The group listed the following demands;

A.That President Muhammadu Buhari either personally or through his aides make the true details of his health known to all Nigerians.

B. That President Muhammadu Buhari addresses all Nigerians, in a language we can all understand, on the true state of his health and sundry other national issues.

C. That he returns to the country to resume work as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in order to lead us out of the economic and security quagmires we have been pushed into as a nation.
D. If President Buhari fails, refuses and/or neglects to do any of the above, then he should resign from office. If he fails to honourably resign, then he should be impeached from office by the National Assembly.

The group says that the demands were made on the back of the comments and principles which President Buhari 'taught' them in 2010 when he criticized Yaradua's government over his health.

PoliticsIgbo Quit Notice: We Cannot Guarantee Your Safety - Arewa Youths by itsdumebi(op): 10:29am On Aug 02, 2017
The Arewa youths northern group has stated that it cannot guarantee the safety of 'those who do not want the unity of Nigeria' living in the northern part of the country.

The group maintains that it October 1st quit notice to Igbos living in all 19 northern states remains in place even though several meetings have been held over the Ultimatum.

In a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, leader of the Arewa youths, Shettima Yerima, the group was still consulting with stakeholders from all over the country but insinuated that the ultimatum should not be taken for granted. In his words;

“I do not also remember specifically saying we are going to finally withdraw the quit notice. No, certainly not. We have not. But we said, within the week, we are going to make a statement.

We need to do a lot of work, we are in consultations now. We are likely going on consultations in northern region; we will discuss issues before we finally review our position.But you can be rest assured that those who believe in Nigeria should remain where they are and be assured of their safety. But to those who don’t believe in Nigeria, we cannot guarantee their safety.

So, it’s better if you want to do your Biafra, you stay and do your Biafra over there. But if you believe in Nigeria, we intend to work side by side with you to build the nation of our dreams.”

Yerima's statements are coming shortly after the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) announced that he will be visiting some northern states to interact with Igbos living there.

CrimeSenate Attacks MTN For Transferring $14 Billion Out Of Nigeria by itsdumebi(op): 5:15pm On Jul 28, 2017
The Nigerian senate has expressed its displeasure with telecoms giant, MTN over the movement of $14 billion out of Nigeria.

On Thursday, the Senate disclosed that there was a capital flight of $13.92 billion by MTN Nigeria between 2006 and 2016. The discovery was made after the Senate deliberated on a report by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance and Other Financial Institutions on the unethical violation of the foreign exchange policy of the country by MTN Nigeria.

The report read;

“No doubt there is a disturbing evidence of Foreign exchange ‎hemorrhage in Nigeria especially in this period of recession.MTN Nigeria, for instance, repatriated over $1.3 billion annually since 2006, or $13.92 billion between 2006 and 2016.

Just for one company, the phenomenon constitutes a huge outflow that could pose challenges for Foreign exchange and National monetary ‎stability”.

The Senate also issued a directive to the central bank of Nigeria to sanction Stanbic IBTC bank for improper documentation in respect of loan repayment and capital repatriation.

PoliticsNigerian Banks Aid Looters - EFCC Boss, Ibrahim Magu by itsdumebi(op): 4:09pm On Jul 28, 2017
Acting chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes commission, Ibrahim Magu has accused Nigerian banks of providing a safe haven for corrupt looters in the country.

Magu blamed banks in the country for creating a friendly atmosphere for looters to steal money, noting that they are doing everything possible to make sure that the Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit, NFIU, is severed from the agency.

While receiving a delegation of the International Monetary Fund, IMF, who were at the Commission’s Head Office in Abuja yesterday July 27th, Magu said; “I don’t trust the financial institutions. They create enabling

“I don’t trust the financial institutions. They create enabling environment for thieves to loot our money that is why they are fighting to remove the NFIU from us. They want to use a former Managing Director of a bank to head the NFIU”.

Magu's statements are coming a few days after the Nigerian senate voted to separate the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Agency from the EFCC. The Senate defended its action by stating that the reason for the move was to enable Nigeria to rejoin the Egmont group after it was recently suspended for leaking sensitive financial information to the media.

PoliticsWe Should Keep Praying For Buhari To Get Well - PDP chairman, Markarfi by itsdumebi(op): 5:25am On Jul 28, 2017
Chairman of the caretaker committee of the People's Democratic party, PDP, Ahmed Markarfi has called on Nigerians to keep praying for President Muhammadu Buhari's health to improve.

Markarfi, while fielding questions in a recent interview, had this to say when asked if the PDP was in support of calls for the president to resign and take care of his health;

It’s immaterial because the president has done what is required of him, to transfer power. He is not exercising political power now. When President Jonathan was acting president, he dissolved cabinet because the full powers of acting president is not reduced by the power of president. The responsibility now is on acting president Osinbanjo, not on Buhari. We should continue to pray that the president should get well. Let’s not lose sight of the fact that the person responsible now is the acting president.

When asked if the PDP had plans of merging with other parties for the 2019 general elections, he said;

We will go beyond that. Alliance is a different thing from merger. In alliance, parties maintain their identity but in respect of specific elections, you come together and agree on a common candidate. But for merger, it means the parties merging will lose their current identity and assume a new one which is cumbersome. I don’t see much appetite for that because it requires lots of steps to be taken and we don’t have that much time. I think what the party can do now is to bring back disenchanted members, bringing in new members and talk to other parties and see how we can work together without going into a procedure that is cumbersome and a procedure that might be used against us one way or the other. We are politicians and we know how it all works.

Markarfi also revealed that the PDP was in support of restructuring the country. He said;

We support it but it is how we get there that matters because restructuring means different things to different people. It is when we sit and talk like matured people, not insulting each other or calling each other names, that we can form a general agreement on what should be restructured because restructuring can be territorial, political, financial or economic. It can be political where some will prefer we go back to zones because some zones can be homogenous such as south west. South east, to some, east and north west, but you cannot find a homogenous in north east or north central. It is the decision of the majority that we will have to take, not minority. But let people talk and let’s see what is workable and what is not.

PoliticsAnybody Doubting Buhari's Recovery Is An Enemy Of Nigeria- APC Chieftain, Kpodoh by itsdumebi(op): 4:51am On Jul 28, 2017
A former security adviser to the Bayelsa state government and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Chief Richard Prekeme Kpodoh, has branded people who criticize evidence of President Buhari's recovery as 'Enemies of Nigeria'.

Kpodoh stated that the move by some opposition leaders to create controversy over the meeting President Buhari had with some APC governors in London, was "Ungodly and a display of hatred". He said that even though the opposition had the right to inquire about the president's health, the deliberate attempt to rubbish the president over his ill health was "Wicked".

He said;

"That person involved in distractions over Buhari’s health does not love Nigeria. For us, the progressives, Buhari will not die because God sent him to be President on a mission to deliver the masses from the clutches of the oppressive and corrupt politicians.

A lot of the people involved in casting doubt over the gradual recovery of the President are corrupt and are angry that he is recovering in line with the prayers of patriotic Nigerians. “The rot in the polity is not the doing of the Buhari administration but that of the PDP.

In the last few years, the Buhari administration has improved the foreign account savings which was depleted under past administrations. The Naira is gradually recovering against the Dollar.  The people have discovered that the PDP administration looted the country to a fault.

Buhari’s administration has stabilized the currency and gradually the oil boom is returning and the economy is back on track. “We are of the belief that nobody can kill Buhari because he was chosen by God and the prayers of true Nigerians are covering him. Those wishing him dead are not God. God will protect him to complete his assignment.”

PoliticsAPC Chieftain, Timi Frank Blasts El-rufai Over Comment On Restructuring by itsdumebi(op): 3:53pm On Jul 21, 2017
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Mr Timi Frank has called on the ruling party to stop taking for granted the sensibility of Nigerians who want the country to be restructured.

Mr Frank, in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday, was very displeased at the appointment of Kaduna state governor, Nasir El-rufai as the chairman of the APC restructuring committee. The statement read;

“Governor El-rufai has not hidden his opposition to the issue of restructuring since Nigerians began to remind us of our promise which is boldly written in our party promise book, hence the need to remove him because he does not believe in it.The Kaduna state Governor has also called some of our leaders and former Head of State different names because of this issue.”

Frank thundered that El-rufai garnered wide spread condemnation after describing people who wanted to restructure Nigeria as “political opportunists and irresponsible”. He added that restructuring was part of the APC manifesto and ''it will amount to deceit if the party renege on its promise''.

He finalised by urging the governor and the National working committee of the APC to remember that the promise of restructuring was one of the reasons Nigerians voted for the party in 2015 and the promise must be fulfilled.

Politics"Nnamdi Kanu Is A Non-entity" - OPC by itsdumebi(op): 8:35am On Jul 21, 2017
The Oodua People's Congress(OPC) has described the leader of the Indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu as a 'non-entity' over his recent comments on former President Olusegun Obasanjo and a National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu.

According to a statement by the group made available to PoliticsNGR and signed by its national president, Adesope Dare, the OPC said it will not sit down and watch Kanu insult Yoruba elders. The statement read;

“The OPC also supports the genuine aspirations of all self-determination groups who pursue their aims through non-violent means. The Nigerian constitution and several international charters, to which the country is a signatory to, recognise the right to freedom of association by anybody, whether individual, corporate or institutional.

However, in supporting such agitations, we must not shy away from rebuking Nnamdi Kanu for the aspersions he has been casting in the direction of our revered leaders.Kanu’s repeated condemnation of former President Olusegun Obasanjo; former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and others is condemned in the strongest possible terms.

The idea of respect for elders might be alien to Kanu and his ilk, but it is a fundamental part of the Yoruba culture and tradition and we cannot afford to overlook such transgressions.We, therefore, use this medium to warn Kanu and other such individuals who are fond of making careless comments in relation to our leaders; that OPC will no longer sit back and allow this bunch of nonentities to disrespect our leaders or to use them to score cheap political scores.”

PoliticsLG Elections: Lagos State Extends Movement Restriction by itsdumebi(op): 2:37pm On Jul 19, 2017
The Lagos State Government on Wednesday extended the restriction of movement across the State noting that it had been slightly expanded and will now be enforced between 7 am and 3 pm on Saturday, July 22, to allow for a smooth conduct of the Local Government elections and unhindered participation.

In a statement issued by the State's Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Steve Ayorinde, the Government also reiterated the call for a peaceful and orderly conduct by the electorates on Saturday as the State holds elections that will usher in new Chairmen and Councillors in the 20 Local Government and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across the State.

According to the Commissioner, the State Government and security agencies will leave no stone unturned in ensuring a free and fair election, while ensuring safety of electoral officials and voters.

He also urged residents to be peaceful and orderly in casting and protecting their votes in their respective wards for Chairmen and councillors who are expected to drive development at the third tier of government.

Ayorinde explained that as the election that would bring on board a new set of public officers for the next four years at the local government level, the restriction of movement will allow the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) and the security agencies to distribute electoral materials in good time and ensure a seamless electoral process.

"The police and other security agencies have been maintaining law and order since the commencement of campaign by political parties. They are poised to ensure that the voting on Saturday is conducted smoothly without public disturbance,” he said.

He added that all political parties, candidates and their supporters, as well as the general public, are assured of safety throughout the period of voting and collation.

The Commissioner also thanked Lagosians for always being peace-loving, while urging them to perform their civic obligation by trooping out with their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) "to show their commitment to participatory democracy and the importance of development at the local government level."
