chrisooblog: Didn't Wike lose at the tribunal and appeal court before winning at the Supreme Court for 20215 elections that year?
You are right. Wikes case did seem like the exception. Off my head, Amaechi vs Omehia and Ihedioha vs Uzodinma are examples of sitting governors who won at the lower court but got sacked by the supreme Court.
larride: The were 3 judges on the panel. 2 agreed to sack Adeleke and 1 disagreed.
Ooh, okay
I honestly doubt there's any hope for Adeleke even if he appeals. This is the result of a court judgement in his own state which he controls.
The most common thing I've seen like in Omehia vs Amaechi and in several other instances is that the lower court usually gives victory to the sitting Governor then the supreme Court will overturn.
This one the lower court already ruled in Oyetolas favour, it looks like the case will be DOA at the appeal and supreme court.
Emaprince: , ATMs stopped dispensing. Banks are still giving out old notes as we draw near to the deadline.
I have always had the feeling that its all a plan to dry out the availability of cash. How they will achieve this is by continuous payment of old notes to customers, which the customers will still return back on or before 31st January. Then by 1st of February, you will look around you and there will only be a little amount of cash (new notes) in circulation.
I was discussing this with a zenith staff today..and inquired on why they refused to pay the new notes. He told me that CBN is not giving out enough to banks. E.g zenith might take a billion of the old notes to CBN and the apex bank will give them like 50mil of the new notes. So there is not enough to pay customers.
That's what I read too. That the CBN is only playing to the gallery when they say banks are the ones not coming to collect new notes. They know no bank will dare openly confront them and they can continue to lie unchallenged.
I have gone full cashless now. If you don't have a POS machine and you can't take transfers, I'll move to the next available seller.
BlueRayDick: I believe u guys are having everything tough in that Rivers state from exorbitant pump price, to ATMs not dispensing.....
I still withdraw 10k this morning in Lagos and it was 10 new 1,000 naira notes that was dispensed.
At least we now have the fuel. We are even happy we can drive into filling stations and buy between 280-300 without queue. There was a time we had to queue to even buy at 350-400/litre.
If not for the mercenaries Wike is planning to put in place, APC would have been lucky to get 10% of votes in this state.
TrebleChamp: Na wah, my younger 6ta in Sokoto also said they are yet to see any of the new notes. She owns a boutique and cosmetic store, even Banks there don't have according to her...
Shey we were even complaining of 20k limit, as of today, most ATMs were not dispensing.
Theflint1: Of course if affects the common man, there's hardly anything that this Buhari-led government has done that hasn't made life harder for the common man.
For almost 8 years now, while the common man complains of the hardship caused by this government, BATists come online and say we don't understand government, point to countries having it a lot worse, lie through their nose and blame us for the failures, saying we're bad and unpatriotic citizens, that's why policies fail.
For almost 8 years this government has been forking this country up, and APC south West wing has steady gaslighted us and insulted us. A month to the general elections when it's becoming clear that these aboki's are scheming on how to retain power after all, then all of a sudden they remember the common man.
Cry today, cry tomorrow, cry forever, there's no going back, and hopefully everything shapes up nicely, this story will be told from 2015. 😁
I am just seeing on front page that sagay has joined the list of wailers
TrebleChamp: I have 20k new #500 note at home, and i also have 2k new #200. The money is in circulation, at least here in Lagos. I paid for items worth 7.5k at the new Market Square mall in Festac using the new 1k note, the lady behind me on queue ask me to change few note with her. The money is gradually circulating, people who have it are not spending it but spending the old noted instead...
My contacts in the bank here in PH say they don't have 500 and 200 naira notes.
BlueRayDick: If u’ve survived buying fuel for over 300 and there’s no chaos , I can assure u there’s no chaos coming with this naira design.
All u are seeing now is APC people concerned it’s after effects will affect their principal. U see fuel queue for close to 3 months , no protest , no OCCUPY ANYTHING …..You think the government will give a 4ck to few petty traders having cash that is no legal tender anymore ?
It’s like u don’t know this APC government .
Leave APC and their wuruwuru first and look at it from the lens of the common man.
Let's us ignore the fact that APC is complaining and look at how it affects the everyday man some of who are not literates.
obainojazz: I’m certain the deadline will be extended but to be on a safe side…. Deposit al your cash to avoid them being redundant
That's what I've been telling people. CBN has instructed banks not to evacuate old notes to them from 31st of January. To be on the safe side, everyone should go and deposit their old notes.
larride: You are coming around to the point I'm making.
You are just talking about deposit deposit without considering those that need that cash to transact their business or for their daily survival. You are lucky that you were able to withdraw the new naira notes. Not everyone is. I'm practically telling you I havent seen or touched the new 500 and 200 notes since it began circulation.
So what happens if by monday, most business begin rejecting the old notes, what happens to all the old notes still in circulation? If you check the link I posted, some banks are actually still dispensing the old notes while some dispense mixture of old and new.
Let's just wait till monday and see how everything unfolds.
There is no new 500 and 200 naira notes in circulation. No one has it. Not even banks.
izzou: ATMs are dispensing new notes as at yesterday I withdraw. Unless you have proof that they are paying old notes.
As for the petty traders, I agree that is an issue, but i know with time, everyone will find some solution
Just deposit your old notes first.
Many businesses have started adjusting. In the markets, people have started notifying customers that no old notes will be accepted as from Monday.
It is a start, and I don't see why the nation will be on fire because of it
I dont think you are getting the point Larride is making
If you deposit old notes, you will only get old notes in return. Over the counter, banks are paying old notes.
The ATMs will only give you a maximum of 20k if you try to withdraw with your banks card on your banks machine. If you try your card on another banks machine you will only get 5k. E.g, Zenith bank ATM on zenith bank machine will give you 20k new notes. Zenith bank ATM on fidelity banks Machine will give you 5k.
I also know for a fact that banks have now dispersed 100 naira notes to their various branches because they still don't have enough new notes. The plan is to start paying 100 naira notes from the first of February. What will that solve? How many 100 naira notes can they possibly have? How many 100 naira notes will you have in 10 million naira?
Larride is actually right. There is serious chaos coming.
CrystalTiger: This one go choke Ikpeazu because the new electoral act says in the case of the death of a candidate,a new primary should take place in 14days..
Primary is conducted by NWC of the party and the mugu dey G5..So now, how Ayu go allow am choose him successor?
Life Sha
Go and find out what happened in Kano. Two primaries were conducted. One by the NWC and another by the state exco. The court has ruled that the winner of the state primaries is the legitimate aspirant.
It is becoming obvious that the redesign is targeted at the coming elections
CBN is now deliberately restricting the cash in circulation. They have banned bank ATMs from dispensing old notes but allowed over the counter withdrawal of old notes up to 500k per week.
Meanwhile the ATMs they are insisting must dispense new notes can only dispense a maximum of 20k per day.
If you even use another banks ATM card, the machine will only pay you 5k. .
So if you need more money, you have to go inside the bank to collect money that you can't spend beyond January 31st.
Last last, whether we like it or not, all of us will go cashless.
What remains to be seen is if this will have any actual effect on politicians who are friends with MDs and EDs of banks.
Pogba12: Hello, I intend buying only one car engine from US and ship to Nigeria. Please what are the things to expect, like shipping cost, customs etc?
Thanks
What if the engine turns out to be bad? Have you considered that possibility?
BlueRayDick: So a football club winning NPFL is now part of the achievement of a governor?
Everybody is slating Southeastern states where killings of security operatives and innocent citizens happens, but we cannot do same about Kano under Kwankwanso?
Na who do us this thing?
Yes @the bolded. What it means is that the club is well funded and well run. We all know NPFL teams are not self sustaining and are funded by the state government.
When they do well, it's an indication that the state government has done well.
Some of the useless state governors don't even pay salaries of football players on time. If the players fail to perform as they will, can we blame it on the state governor? If yes, why can't a Governor who pays salaries regularly and even gives cash gifts to motivate players consider it an achievement when they win the league?
