Have you tried checking Jiji. Have been seeing clean cars there at reasonable prices. Though you still need to check with your mechanic.

Also, why not try other brands aside Corolla.
Most prices on jiji are just there to lure you in. When you see the car, they tell you the real price.

In cases where they put the actual "reasonable" price, you find out that the cars are dead and carefully packaged to sell to an unsuspecting victim.

We Nigerians are funny people. Now we are praising Fayemi for saying the "truth"

Faeymi like every other politician is only telling you what you want to hear to justify the ill planned subsidy removal by Tinubu

After all, if Subsidy was meant to have been removed in 2012 and they only played politics with it, Tinubu has now done the right thing. Let's rally around him and not play politics this time.

I feel for you guys. No one around me is even talking about buying a car for now.

Most people find it difficult to rationalise spending excess of 5-10m naira on a car just to move from point A to B

You are referring to cause as if that is an excuse, does it change the fact that clearing cost has increased? If the govt was really interested in avoiding increase in cost of clearing they would have taken off 15 to 20% from the 35% levy so that the devaluation impact will still balance out. Instead they maintained every every and are even now introducing valuation by trim and that one will be manual. Bumper hervest to the custom officers.
Calm down and read it again. We are saying yhe same thing.

Why not provide the price, once again people have not realised what has hit this country since tinubu came into power. When cars that came in before Tinubu are exhausted then the reality will be revealed.

As to reference link I shared below is when custom implemented the first increase @39%, they did another increase few weeks later. Google is your friend to search for that if you care to know.

https://www.carmart.ng/public/blog/newly-increased-import-duty-rate-in-nigeria-from-39-54-to-39-62-new-custom-rates-of-vehicles/
I believe you're referring to the period they changed their exchange rate from 422/dollar to 589/dollar and then to 770/dollar.

That was what caused the astronomic rise in cost of clearing.

Head of Operations for Zenith get money oh. As head of her unit in Customer Care, she would be earning around 240k monthly.
Except you know her grade, you really can't say. Grade determines your pay in banks not necessarily your role. Two people can do the same thing in different branches of the same bank and the salary of one will be double the other.

Head of operations Zenith Bank one Milion naira you don't mean it The babe doesn't have a car of her own ooooo she's not even chauffeur driven

OK I went back to the chats with my friend its not Head of operations. I made the mistake she's the Head in her unit she's a customer care rep sorry
It's difficult to say what she earns. Can be anything from BA to SBO.

They are all decently paid sha. Especially after the recent general increase across banks.

Anyway make all those niqqurs no dey come here dey hype salary work grin
Where were they working since 2012?

As for the sister working with Zenith bank as the HOP, she's likely an AM which means she earns more than 1m naira monthly. I also know for a fact that she is entitled to car loan, mortgage loan, PLAS and salary advance. If she tells them she does not have money, it's because she doesn't want to borrow them which is not surprising.

Most people don't like borrowing those who want to japa money because they fear it won't be returned.

Someone still approached ne a couple of weeks back for a 600k loan to Japa. I told him I don't have and borrowed him 100k. If he returns it, good for him. If not, I leave him to his conscience.

Omo, the risks are plentiful. At the end of the day, it’s just picking your poison and hoping the woman is who she says she is.

I consider that man to be lucky. He finally found her true nature (which would have shown up at some point in time). I really hope they don’t have kids because children deserve a stable home.

Finding out the hard way is painful but all for the best. Even if they never had cause to japa, she would have figured out a way to cheat in Naija anyways
Na so. You just have to pick your poison.

I hope and pray he gets a job with sponsorship before the deadline they gave him. Now that the story is going viral, his chances should be higher.

I think risking deportation on the whims and caprices of another person is risky as eff.

Personally, i think a better approach is the man japa first, find his foot and brings the wife later. There is a lot of orientation that needs to be done whenever you land in a foreign domicile for the first time.

Won’t even advice you to relocate with your partner without having additional finance to cushion sudden shocks (like loss of livelihood etc)
Considering that most people japa using the student route, having the man go first is going to be really difficult.

First, most people don't have enough money to pay their entire school fees before they leave. On one hand you're struggling to pay rent, live and survive, on the other hand, you also have to pay your school fees. All these bills and you're limited to working only 20 hours a week.

That's why people go with dependants and even go as far as conducting sham marriages. The idea is that while the main applicant is limited to 20 hours, the other can work for as long as possible

Another danger with making your wife the dependant is that if she works and refuses to hand over the money for family upkeep and to support you, you're on your own.

It's not like men don't know the risks involved with going as the dependant. The alternatives are not just considerably better.

Now for those who are lucky to get jobs with sponsorship from Nigeria, then easier to go first to settle down before bringing the family.

Na the man fuckup allow her bring am as the dependent. When you’re the dependent, you need to understand your role.
Most men go as dependants. It's believed men have the strength, hunger and can work long hours.

Also, if you go as the student and your wife gets pregnant, gives birth or just refuses to work long hours, surviving becomes very difficult.
