DFmum:Niagara college is in Ontario and it’s not easy leaving ur family behind in one province to go Sch in another. NNAS would be her best bet. The time it takes to get ur evaluation is dependent on how soon you get ur documents sent to them. |
vickyehi: . I’d choose Canada over the US anyday anytime, mostly cuz of the benefits that come with starting a family and raising kids in Canada. Not to mention the fact that one can sponsor their family members via PNP in provinces like MB. But we all have different factors guiding the choices we make. Is there a serious reason why you don’t want to go the LPN route? |
Electroweb:Hi, this is a tough question I must admit. I wanna believe the RN in question doesn’t have a Bachelor’s degree of any kind?? If yes, then the person can only get evaluated for the LPN category via NNAS, as you need a university degree for RN now. Also if the person wants to solely “work” then he/she must have PR plans in place as its a herculean task to get an LPN employer without having at least a work or study permit / PR and a license. Getting admission into a Canadian uni would be a better option cuz u’d have a study permit which allows u work and pursue NNAS at the same time, but it’s not a cheap option cuz u’d be paying for tuition and licensure waka. Better option would be to get admission for a Postgraduate nursing course in either Niagara college or one of the colleges in Ontario. Expensive but can grant you PR and licensure in the long run. Best of luck! |
samnijazz:I beg to disagree with this info cuz I am practising in Manitoba. Even with the merger (which is only within one health region (and only in the ER and ICU depts which Nigerian nurses hardly go to) leaving other specialty areas in this region and other health regions free of this your allegation, there are still nursing positions open every single day and people are still getting employed. The college (and not board) doesn’t delay applications (evaluations come from NNAS by the way, You apply to the college after NNAS and people hear back from the college within 5-7days at the latest). People delay themselves because it takes them forever to come up with the exam fee, pick an exam date and prep for their competence exam. Need I add that many IENs are scared of the exam and spread rumours around instead. I remember people telling me it was the hardest exam ever and if I listened to them and prepared eternally, I may never have gathered the courage to write it. So please be very objective when you advise people. |
cynthiaezebaby:The licensure process begins with NNAS. Pls visit www.nnas.ca MB exempts Nigerian IENs from providing English proficiency exams (in my time for sure, don’t know if it has changed). |
yusslab:NNAS is non-negotiable if you are an intl educated nurse looking to become a Canadian RN, it’s the only assessment body they have, if you wanna practice in any province apart from Quebec. In the past, they had other agencies but not anymore. NNAS app fees on its own is expensive, I think it cost almost $800+ (taxes inclusive) during my time and that was in 2015. However, It’s a simple process, and you do not need an agent- you fill out your employment and academic history, pay, and download forms for your employer(s) and academic institutions, have them fill and send back (with transcripts and course syllabus for academic institutions) and then you wait for your evaluation report. I’m not sure I understand how a BNsc (which is what I have) gives you a better chance. I’d say they feel the Nigerian nursing program is lacking in certain areas in relation to the Canadian scope of practice and that’s why everyone has gotten a non-comparable report for RN but it is somewhat comparable for LPN. Some people apply for both RN and LPN evaluation, that way they get the LPN license and start working with it while pursuing the RN registration. I did the NNAS for RN- applied to the regulatory body in the province I reside in, luckily Nigerian Nurses are exempted from English proficiency tests in my province so I got called for a competence assessment, my result showed I needed to take 3 courses (total duration- 4 months) to bridge the gaps identified, after which I was told I was eligible to take the NCLEX-RN, passed it on first attempt and got registered. |
Jibby16:Hi, I’m a Nigerian/Canadian RN, I did go through NNAS (but I graduated from EBSU not OAU). Everyone I know with a Nigerian degree so far has gottten “not-comparable” as their outcome for RN evaluation. Regardless, the different provincial regulatory bodies decide if you’ll get licensed (or what the next step would be) based on your competence assessment / OSCE results. |
unex50:Inductions are recommended by docs when mums pass their due dates cuz the placenta begins to deterioriate between 37-42wks (most commonly after 42wks), depending on the health and overall wellbeing of the mother and baby- thereby reducing the amount of nutrients and oxygen that gets to ur baby. Let your mum know it’s a better option for a healthy baby, esp since you are over 40wks at the time. |
UgoFly:Hi, had this with my first, I was placed on progesterone 200mg for the entire 1st trimester with minimal activity. I carried my baby to term. Trust God and talk to ur OBGYN. |

Eruditor:Hi Eruditor, I'll answer ur questions as asked 1. ENP-CC will NEVER fetch u a GA/TA/RA job as a student. Masters fetches scholarships/ tuition waivers as a new and current student (if u bend down and read of course) that PGCs will never give 1/2 of even if u make A+ all tru. (Something to consider with d rate of naira devaluation and d fact that not everyone have their parents as their sponsors) 2. As a Nurse (and for anyone in a regulated profession in Canada), u need licensure / to be registered to practice and to be eligible for PR/PNPs; PGCs won't give u d time to process all dat cuz d waka no be one day and before u knw it 8months (*2) is up and ur 3yrs PGWP may be spent on "labouke jobs" that will lead u nowhere. Masters buys u time to sit in Canada legally (u can even fast-track to PHD in most schools after ur first year and it's mostly tuition free cuz ur grades sampled u out) and process that cuz ur courses r spaced and not jampacked like PG courses. 3. International students don't go down that lane easily, even with a 2'1, thesis-based Masters admission process is terribly rigorous and sometimes not easy to get. I even applied for PGC cuz I got tired of waiting for my masters offer letter to come out, and PGC came out in 3wks. Plus Master of Nursing is difficult, I was told its IMPOSSIBLE so didn't even see any intl student to "follow down d route" sef but God helped me. May I add that tuition was more expensive in PGC (in my case, may vary). Lastly, let's stop deceiving ourselves with this "I'm going back to Nigeria to build d country" talk, even d VOS knw u ain't going nowhere, at least not without PR/passport if not we'll all be on d UK thread! God bless! |
ceemac:No, I don't. But just trust and believe. |
ceemac:For sure! |
Bobola86:I taya o! I switched from a PGC to a Masters Prog, and I knw lots of intl students who wish they could do same. Times r changing People! Just pray to God to bless ur hustle!! #WhoNoComeNoGoKnow#EndOfDiscussion# |
ceemac:I'll call him ASAP, he's probably very busy now. Admission letters should be rolling out already, it's usually anytime btw Feb-May, depending on ur prog! All d best!! |
slimtriggaman:MB and SK, d 6 months apply only if u school in any of these provinces. |
iykedare:It grants u entry into Canada and gives PR in d long run, esp if it's a 2-yr prog. That's worth it to me!! I am not sure if it makes u eligible for masters but I think it should add some credits to a well-packaged app. Work after Sch depends on d grace u carry and ur province. As some provinces may not require jobs related to ur Prog of study / may only require u to work for six months post-grad, to be eligible for PNP. |
