Do you think this affects revenue on the long run when people start abandoning it like you did?
Yes

The same way Shortbread would be abandoned if it got to 4,000 per one.

Please oo.. Have you tasted the shortbread manufactured in Nigeria?
I tasted it once, and that was when i decided to always check address before buying it.

My favourite is Rich Tea. The day i saw "Made

I don't know which of their plants they make use of the power plants but I know they are currently building another 220MW power plant to supplement the one on ground.
The reason why i asked was because Lafarge still handles its own distribution.
They have their trucks that carries cement

They also have Cement mixer trucks. Infact, they offer this as a service.

Because they have their power generation covered doesn't mean they won't need diesel.

I did my IT at Dangote Flour Mills at NPA Wharf. The mill is in the same compound with NASCON (owned by Dangote) and they have their own power plant. Yet, vendors supply diesel back to back in a month, because of their trucks.

Its not about being wasteful its about what increase your profitability. Indian manufacturer without those perks will be able to offer their goods in the market for cheaper than the Western option

At the end of the day, the western companies will either have to tow the line or fold, There is a reason Apple one of the biggest companies in US the best economy in the world is manufacturing its phones in China where there are no such perks even if its depriving Americans of jobs

If Michelin Dunlop and Jintao or Patel tyres are in the market where Michelin/Dunlop sells for 100k and Jintao/Patel sells for 30k which one will most Nigerians buy? Those are the decisions that make the companies fold

In my post that spamboot deleted, I said the same is happening in America, Many towns you see giant companies and infrastructures that used to serve the whole town in the 60s and 70s, the company has folded and moved to Asia. Is this because American economy is not fixed

Its a battle for who can capture the market.
The Nigerian economy is so bad, that you have to be bad to make it.

Sumal and Yale Foods have been producing biscuits since when i was a born and they are still there.

All they need to do is remove 1 or 2 sticks inside, and retain their 50 to 100 naira price. They will rather sell nylons filled with air, than retain good quality at a higher price.

It's not as if what the Western guys are doing is foolish. You just have to be ready to chase the money at any cost, in order to make it here

In my last post before the spambot ban, I mentioned that Lafarge actually has a 90MW power station that independently generates power for its cement production(They make use of 50MW and send the excess 40MW to the national grid). Dangote , BUA, Honeywell ,etc all have their respective independent power plants that generates power for them independent of the national grid.

A lot of heavy industry have moved away from diesel long time ago.
Lafarge has 4 Cement plants in Nigeria; Gombe, Sagamu, Ewekoro and in Cross River

Is this 50MW power plant providing power for just one, or the four?

Those western owned companies they feed staff during work. If you see the kain food you go chop for Chevron, Mobil Shell Total canteen even reach dem Dunlop Guiness Michelin omo you go get potbelly after 6months

Wetin concern Chinese employer if you never chop for 2yrs

Abi na staff club wey be like resort, Most of us have one parent or uncle who used to work in a Manufacturing company in the 80 and 90s and those companies have disappeared long ago without trace to be replaced by Lebanese Chinese and Indians
Those guys will block every hole that will lead to a loss....No compassion or mercy

I know a guy that worked in a bakery. He said for every slice that you mistakingly don't cut to the right size, it is deducted from your salary.
So in a month, you might have "eaten" your salary from improperly cut bread.

Meanwhile, i know a Western confectionery where the improperly uncut ones are sold as scraps to pig rearers or most times, the staff can take it home (The company has been sold now).

the other thing about asians - they may be paid more than nigerians, but they are paid less than westerners. and a lot of asian expats are much more conservative financially than westerners. you will see indian managers in tontolo kia moto. but every oyibo manager is in a late model suv.

and because they are coming from third world countries, they can give solutions that work in nigeria.

all this cng, lpg we are going on about - it is a mature technology in india and pakistan. but it is not adopted that much in western nations
Exactly.

While the constant factor is the bad economy, one group has learnt to stay afloat by paying lesser, cutting costs and doing anything and everything to profit.

Unilever may be paying a factory worker 50k per month, while one Chinese company would be paying 28k (1k per day) per month.

And both of them will produce detergents to sell. Who go fit survive inside a bad economy?

Guinness and NBPlc usually purchase brand new Mitsubishi Pick up for their Sales personnel. Tolaram go buy one Chinese smaller toy for theirs.

Na only Asians & Nigerians fit survive for this kind place

I get you, businesses can't survive leakages from so many fronts and stay profitable, but my point is, if thieves were ripping these businesses off since before 1999, we can pretty much call business theft a constant, and the variable will be the quality of governance that makes these businesses stay profitable despite theft, meaning the "real" cause of these businesses tanking isn't the theft, but the dip in the quality of governance.
So how come Asians and Indians are thriving every single minute here?

Is it that the quality of governance no dey affect them?

Well, that's why most companies have outsourced their distribution arm of business. Most of those manufacturing companies have long-stopped carrying their own products na.
This hasn't exonerated the companies from bearing the brunt on Diesel price fluctuations or mago-mago.

If the price of Diesel changes by 10 naira today, dem go change their rates

If people in their own system are chopping anyhow, they transfer the price change to their customers.

IHS that is powering MTN sites will always run back to MTN to change price, even though their staff dey sell the diesel (I'm assuming)

And besides, not "Most" have outsourced. Dangote still carries his product. Flour mills still carry their product. Even Ardova and the big fuel guys carry their own by themselves.

Its a cycle that no matter how you shift back, it has a way of coming back to you.

Personally I still think the government is to blame for this. There's nowhere in the world where there's no corruption, it is the institutions in place that helps to checkmate the corrupt practices. If the company nabs a corrupt CEO/Member of senior management and our security agents actually assist in recovering every recoverable, won't it boost the confidence of foreign investors in our justice system ?

Most multinationals have long moved past buying expensive diesel s source of energy. Most of them have invested in gas turbines to generate electricity. So I don't think employees stealing diesel is the reason they are expending high energy costs. There are so many other costs affecting the business; there's security on the highway, banditry , etc.
It is oh.

Only the very few can afford turbines. And even at that, they still need diesel, especially if they are handling their distribution.

Diesel mago-mago na serious business oh.

If not that the subsidy on Kerosene was removed, we would have been the highest producer of adulterated diesel in the Universe and Multiverse.

I know na, but u will agree with me that there's been a dangerous narrative being peddled around in recent weeks that those leaving simply becuase they can't compete with naija competitors.

What our people fail to understand is that the so-called competition is to our detriment in the first place. How many Nigerian owned business will provide to their staff similar benefits which companies like Shell, Total, etc provide for their staff?

Like u rightly posited, there is a limit to how they can adjust their price. Even the wages they pay their staff, it will take serious bribing of Trade unions for them to pay them below their standard in other parts of the world where they operate. All in all, Nigeria is really investment friendly to an ethical business investor who wants to play things by the rule of the book.
There is clear difference in the benefits a Factory worker has in Nestle and another in Multi-pro (Tolaram).

These guys have standards; Nigerian and Asian companies don't.

Nigeria’s Worrisome Corporate Exodus - Punch Editorial

https://www.nairaland.com/8129052/nigerias-worrisome-corporate-exodus-punch .

I thought the argument has always been that we dont pay enough tax in Nigeria . Here is Dangote alleging he pays 52 per cent tax on every one Naira his company earns. Let’s not forget the multiple taxation we the common men face .

At least we can see that it’s not because the foreign investors cannot compete that’s why they are leaving in droves . I mean ; in what investment friendly country will u be expected to pay 52 per cent tax , forced to provide your own electricity , forced to pay community development levies , face difficulties in repatriating profit in foreign currency, face security threat to ur expats , etc ?
If you want to survive a Nigerian FMCG market, you have to be a Nigerian:

What do i mean?

Terrible work environment
Cut corners
Lobby and pay bribes
Undepay staff
Ati be be lo.

Na why these big names go find am hard to adjust. No matter how they try to reduce their price, they cannot become like us. Na why Asians dey survive here. Quality product, but go and see the work conditions or salary, and you'll understand better.

we have a very big problem which is one of the signs of a collapsing society

critical infrastructure is repeatedly attacked by vandals
oil pipeline, petrol pipeline, railway line, power transmission lines
the real problem is there is no where in the world you have the resources to protect from deliberate, repeated and targeted acts of vandalism

when the resources for normal monitoring do not exist. as it is today if a line has an issue no one will go out because there may be bad actors waiting to kill the repair crew
I am not saying we shouldn't have a monitoring unit for infrastructure. I am simply saying we can have these under the NPF.

We must not be creating entirely new bodies for every single problem we have.

While you are right about the RRS, you have to consider that LASG do give them special training, equip them differently from the police force and their welfare is part financed by LASG.

There's a reason why the replica hasn't worked anywhere else.
We are saying the same thing.

The NPF already has a structure, and LASG didn't need to start from scratch. All they did was use that structure to carve a unit that has a particular purpose

If tomorrow, RRS fulfills it aim (just saying), they dissolve the unit back into NPF.

All these EbubeAgu, Amotekun and Go Go Power Rangers na just to bloat cost and nothing else.
