Theflint1: Exactly, it's why Izzou's story of the guy that produces locally selling cheaper then starts to add up. Anybody wey choose to do local production when they can import most likely dey do so because it's more profitable or they have an ace up their sleeves...very few would pass on profit because of passion/social good.
I can't say what that Izzou's guys margins would be like, but him selling cheaper and stronger stuffs compared to the competition is an edge. If producing locally was more profitable, believe me that many people importing would have switched Producing locally has headache You bother about business registrations, licensing if necessary and tax guys would mark you down You bother about machines, location, quality control, power, security, marketing and staff You bother about everything Whereas your headache in importation is mostly marketing. Many don't pay tax sef. To produce requires a lot of courage |

Ibime: Businesses seek profit not social good. If the Govt made the conditions such that producing locally would maximize his profit, then that's what he would have done.
Apart from that, I don't believe his rise is all uhuru, that's why he's been vague about it. He would have received some patronage from Govt or Govt linked sources along the way. That goes for 95% of Nigerian billionaires. The Nigerian environment hardly allows for a clean rise. We are saying the same thing, sir Impotation is where the money is, and that is what he did. So if he is saying he wants to improve local production, he never put his money where his mouth is. I heard Obi is the major importer of Heinze Ketchup (I don't know if it is true). It may interest you to know that Ketchup is produced locally here. And i am sure the local manufacturer cannot lace Obi's shoes in wealth, so why can't this guy do it here? |

Drone17: Why do you think that he was accused of investing state money in his private business. Which business?
You don drink Hero beer before?
If an importer is telling you to produce listen to him. Obi does not own any brewery. So investing in it, does not automatically exonerate him from cashing out from importation. There are more hurdles to overcome from producing locally. So if you see anybody producing here, remove your cap, and shake him with two hands. I am not taking anything from Obi's success. I am simply telling you that the man believed more in importation than local production. His means of wealth is proof. And i still insist, it does not mean he wouldn't be a good president |

Theflint1: That kind of sacrifice can only come from love and passion for what he does, if Nigeria gets a president that incentivises local manufacturing or builds a brand that becomes big enough to compete, that guy go make serious money.
How does his price and quality compare with those that are imported? His price is obviously cheaper, but his product is stronger, tbh The only issue with his is finesse. We don't have "finishing". Apart from that, his output is too good. Majority of his customers are from Cotonou. Like 99% |

All the trailer parts i sell are gotten from China. I buy them from importers But the day i discovered a guy that manufactures here, i was shocked Like..this guy could just easily go to China and sell here, but he chose to buy lathe machines, employ boys to fabricate it. liveLongNprospa: Wait.. I gave an example of a company he invested in that deals in local production you say e too small. Thing is the man switched from that line of business and moved into the banking industry where it seems he spent a bulk of his time. And I'm very sure he has employed alot of people.
Most importantly like you said, it doesn't mean he wouldn't have made a good president 😁 I am not talking about employing people. I know he did I am talking about owning local manufacturing companies. For a man who is a billionaire and we are struggling to name companies that are producing locally in his name, it tells a lot about what he believed in. Yes, he can be a good president. But i never believed that consumption to production talk. Through his actions, he did not even believe in it |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 8:54pm On Apr 23, 2023 |
Theflint1: It's not about making excuses...those people wey dey produce locally, are they producing locally because they love local production or because that's the way through which they'd make the most profit?
If Peter Obi the hustler/businessman has connects that'd bring him supplies so he makes way more than he'd make doing local production, of course, he'd get it in and make cool money. The idea behind moving from consumption to production is not so that businessmen suffer to make profit just because they want to produce locally, it's so businessmen make good profit while producing locally...basically, make local production profitable.
Making profits as a businessman off importation is different from the same businessman understanding that as a country, over-reliance on importation does not favour us and isn't the best long-term strategy. Go to Olojo drive in Alaba and you'll see chairs littered everywhere. If you see any businessman doing it locally, then give him the maximum respect Like i said, Importation is the easiest way to blow. You cannot tell me that Tonimas won't make more if he imports. It takes balls to start from scratch here. All these excuses won't exonerate Obi from failing to establish even if it as bakery so people can be employed, even if he was making 1 naira profit every month. There are people that will preach local consumption and i would listen, not a man that made his billions from importation This does not mean he wouldn't have made a good president oh |

Na who don reach there make we dey look wetin he go do. Of course. He is within his rights to promise anything. |

Theflint1: Thing with this manufacturing thing is it depends on the type of business he does/did, and how feasible local manufacturing will be. For some businesses it's easy, and for others it isn't so easy, and one can understand the problem but the condition to implement the solutions he wants to effect are just not possible.
There are several things that can be produced locally, but conditions to make local production possible are just not there...that could be the case with Peter Obi, and it's also possible that this consumption to production philosophy that's his mantra is one he's come to realize as a solution to our problems over time. You can't compare Peter Obi the 28-35 year old hustler to Peter Obi the 60 year old plus man, the way they'd see the world would be very different. Bros, i don't want to make excuses for him. If men that are very low in wealth can produce, i don't see why a billionaire can't Obi was a big importer. Can you list what he specialised on, and check if it can't be produced? One thing you should know is that Importation is the easiest way to wealth, and that is what Obi, and many other billionaires settle for For me, he is not fit to propel the gospel of local production. My opinion, though |

If a man who is a multi billionaire, and has just a rice mill, is selling local production to us, then..... Men like Tonimas were already producing Engine Oil in the 90s, when Obi was a billionaire Innoson was producing chairs locally here long time ago. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 7:52pm On Apr 23, 2023 |
Theflint1: Funny thing about the whole thing is Peter Obi said he made his money from trade, essentially source (locally or internationally), and sell, rinse and repeat. Anyone that's been involved in a business of that nature knows that largely, that's what it comes down to...no fancy work history, just connects and plugs for getting stuffs into the country.
In today's Nigeria, computer village probably generates up to #2 Billion every single day, the people that put in the work to generate this money do buying and selling just like Peter Obi. There are several Naira billionaires in Computer Village today and many on their way to hitting that mark have essentially done what Peter Obi did, which was buying and selling.
Peter Obi's Abacha story is probably the biggest proof of what the man has been about. He being one of those that went out to speak on behalf of Lagos TinCan importers showed he either would have done business long enough in importation or gained respect by stacking the most coins faster than most... essentially he had to have been someone with interest vested in the TinCan logistics space for him to have not only been a representative but to have been appointed as Chairman of the TinCan port.
Funny thing with this agenda they're trying to push is that tomorrow yarns of Peter Obi talking about production to consumption when he's a major importer would come up and they'd insert themselves in it... you can guess on which side they'd be, and the agenda they'd be pushing then To be honest, this is one of the reasons i doubted if Obi can turn Nigeria from consumption to production Like, this guy made much of his wealth from importation. I doubt if anybody here can point to one single local manufacturing company he has If this guy could afford a house of 1 million pounds outside politics, what stopped him from producing locally? I know many Igbo guys that are not fit to lace his shoes, but they produce here. I no too believe Obi on that talk sha |
