So when doctors go on strike, they don't make room for dialogue and plans to work again? I don't even understand you We are talking about resigning and leaving a vacuum in that space, and you are talking of a strike. Is there no difference? |

liveLongNprospa: Izzou if doctors decide to go on strike today as a result of this bill..
What will anybody do? Basically FG after making mouth has come to show that doctors are very important with this move so why you feel say these same doctors nor go react to this? If a doctor goes on strike today, he is still open to negotiations. This is quite different from quitting and leaving I don't know why you are using this example. I have been avoiding it because it doesn't match. Or do doctors collect allowances from somewhere else when they are on strike? |

liveLongNprospa: Oga japa is not an easy process and alot of people will not japa if you offer them very good compensation. At the very least you will even delay some to stay back longer before leaving. People who are undergrads will also be affected and look forward to earning.
Not everyone that is japaing wants to japa and these are the people who these changes will convince to stay. Maybe our UK brothers can help me, but this is what my Google says. So how well will you pay a doctor, that he wouldn't consider running away to UK?

liveLongNprospa: If you pay these people very well, some of them will not consider leaving ASAP as they are graduating from college.
The process for doctors to japa is not easy and some people would take their chances of being in naija and flexing this country while doing their jobs.
Surely this cannot be too hard na. Infact some will not bother to leave at all.
Okay what if UK and US relax restrictions for them even further to counter this move by the FG.
Wetin you go come talk then? How well do you think you can pay them, that will remove their eyes from UK and USA? Be sincere to yourself Bank EDs that earn well dey japa. People who work in Oil firms and earn good money, dey japa. PWc and KPMG guys that i admire in my Uber days, don full Canada. So please, how well would you pay a doctor, that will make him denounce going to US and UK? Let's be very realistic. Can Tinubu pay £10/hour for a doctor? |

Itsrm: The argument can be made for those who attend private universities but to the best of my knowledge they still do their housemanship in government owned hospitals
One way or another, they are still drawing from tax payers money.
On the contrary, people like me are needed in HOR to make difficult but unavoidable decisions like this. I am even surprised that Nigerians living in Nigeria see it as a wicked policy Until you go to a hospital (Public or private), and they tell you there is no doctor on duty, or you have to wait 5 hours to see one, na that time the person go understand the problem wey dey on board. larride: Why waste 10m to study medicine here when you can japa and go study medicine outside the country? 😂
We are not saying the same thing. Even as cheap as university fees are currently, there are still thousands if not hundred of thousands that can afford it. Scholarship and educational loan will take care of it. That’s why i also included that their remunerations and welfare packages should be prioritized also. As long as they can earn 1 extra dollar above what we pay here, they will Japa Or is it today you know that their packages are shitt? Like Itsrm said, commit to 5 years sounds favourable, and that is a fact. The moment you remove that subsidy, nobody will remain here. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 7:09pm On Apr 06, 2023 |
larride: There are lots of private universities in Nigeria and a lot of people are attending those Universities.
I’m definitely sure that if subsidy is removed on public tertiary education, the amount still can’t compete with the private university. Uniosun that I attended is fairly run independent of Odin State Govt and they charge 95k per session while I was there (I don’t know if they have increased it).
Those that can’t afford the fees can apply for scholarships and education loans with those conditions applied.
I do agree that medical personnel wages, allowances and welfare should be prioritized as they are critical essential workers. We are saying the same thing Anybody that can spend, say 10 million to study Medicine in Covenant, can comfortably go abroad. If government schools begin to charge this equivalent, then 90% of the students will be at Walter Carrington immediately after their housemanship abi na homemanship If you say Scholarship, you have narrowed the number, and we will have fewer doctors willing to commit for that 5 years |

None of that.
So what happens if doctors down tools as a form of protest.

I am not a rich man but these guys cannot be forced to stay.. If they down tools today in protest nko. Wetin you go them? That is why i said any government needs to be disturbed. And that is what they are doing |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: EPL Chatroom - All Discussions by izzou(m): 6:58pm On Apr 06, 2023 |
larride: If their arguments on based on cheap university fees, doesn’t it make sense to remove the subsidy on the fees, let university charge the true fees they should charge and let the schools use the funds to run the schools properly.
The govt can then give scholarships and educational loans with conditions that you serve for a certain year before you can japa.
That way you solve 2 problems, ASUU and this doctors brain drain wahala You ended up with their bill. If you remove the subsidy, you'll have lesser people applying for Medical courses And anybody that can pay the fees through medical school, can definitely jump on the next Delta flight to Atlanta. So in the end, almost zero percent stays back. The issue for a prospective japa doctor is that he is underpaid The issue for the government is that they are not getting some loyalty for their subsidy. |

So again.. What should the medical practitioner do? Your issue with the policy is the messenger, not the message..And i totally understand that. Maybe you are Omo Baba Olowo, but many people that have japa have their families right here. If their mama get blood pressure, e go still go the same Nigeria hospital wey no get doctor, abi? larride: Those reps Dey craze on a steady sha.
The govt should just make University autonomous and make medical school autonomous. Let them charge the normal standard fees they should charge and let those schools use the money to develop their institutions.
All these talks of cheap university no cut ham. Your opinion makes it worse, in my opinion It means only those that can afford it, would attend medical school, and if i can afford it, I can definitely japa. The problem with japa virus is that they are underpaid and not taken care of. If the government makes it autonomous, can the same government pay them what they will earn equivalently in UK? |

Since Obi can't take one state from poverty, what makes think he can take 19 states from poverty? A very logical argument, right there. Well it's the truth but you can see the Northerners pain in this thread because singling them out looks like insult because every region in Nigeria is suffering from poverty.
Tinubu is also from south o...he didn't say North is poor... I'll take you from poverty.
North can make anyone president because they have the numbers...
