You are wrong though, Nigeria accommodate many variety of music, afrobeat is not even the most popular genre in Nigeria (pic) afrobeat is to Nigeria what dance hall is to Jamaica, a genre identifiable with Nigeria, Just because they dominate does not mean there are no other genres, what it really boils down to is thirst and cycles, because most people expect afrobeat from Nigeria, they get stuck from one afrobeat to another.


BTW except for a single song here and there most popular Nigerian musicians are into afropop, wizkid, davido, tecno, yemi alade, tiwa e.t.c are all into afropop not afrobeat. Compare "Gbona" (afrobeat) with other popular music from wizkid and Davido, you'll get what I am talking about.

Whatever the difference is there between afropop and afrobeat...I just can't tell it.

I don't know about the begging part but I have realised Nigerians and other Africans on YouTube highly rate Nasty C more than South Africans do,and you can check the comments on YouTube if you doubt what I just said.

In a country like Nigeria where the industry doesn't accommodate variety it comes as no surprise that the crowd will not be moved by Nasty C's performance.The two industries are too different,PERIOD...in Nigeria is Afrobeat or die as opposed to South Africa that covers all bases and cater to different audience within the same country.Ever wondered why international Rock bands like Linkin' Park,Nickelback,Coldplay,etc never perform in Nigeria but can sell out arenas in South Africa? well that's because we speak the same musical language as them,a language too foreign in Nigeria because the only genre that reigns supreme is the monotonous Afrobeat.So you saying even if a South African song was good you wouldn't listen to it if a Nigerian artist is not featured? what kind of a toddler mentality is that? if a song sucks then it sucks no matter who is featured.The sooner you minimise nationalism when it comes to musical taste the sooner you'd start appreciating good music.
