The Solidarity trade union is set to serve court papers before the end of the week asking that the "unlawful" suspension of Schweizer-Reneke teacher Elana Barkhuizen be lifted as a matter of urgency.

The union told a news conference on Tuesday it believed she had been a victim of high emotions which overlooked the truth.

"We are focusing on restoring her human dignity so that we do not lose an outstanding teacher," said the union.

According to Solidarity chief executive Dr Dirk Hermann, North West education MEC Sello Lehari’s "hasty and populist actions" led to Barkhuizen’s unlawful suspension while being innocent.

Land redistribution has already been done in small scale in SA (I just said it) and it failed.

Blanks in SA have been in power since the end of Apartheid, but blanks have become poorer.

This redistribution of land without compensation thing is bound to fail. The question we should ask ourselves is, which this has ever been done fairly/correctly in South Africa? I fear it falling to the wrong hands, like the RDP houses that have been sold illegally to foreigners by our very own people. I say people must work for their shìt. Not everything is a white man's fault.

Let me share with you two stories. Where I live, there's a white boy about 12 or 13 years old. Every morning at around 5 am he delivers newspapers. He's brought himself a new bicycle. That is teaching your kid responsibility at a young age, so they will not rely on handouts. Most of us fail at this, which is why we always blame everything on whites. It comes across envious at times, TBH.

2nd story, I used to be a waitress at this restaurant in Villeria. Most of the waiters there were white. They were students at different universities around Pretoria. A guy called Charl worked to pay off a car loan his parents helped to co-sign. A girl called Noleen was working to pay her university fees. Her mother had a drug problem & was in/out of rehabilitation centers, so she was taking care of herself. I get fed up when people adopt a woe is me attitude. Did anyone's forefathers own an estate? Because those are some of the things people have their eyes on. Where is the pride? If people have the capability to do the things they're talking about, then let them start with undeveloped land instead of building shacks in every piece of land they "expropriate". Why do they need ready-made places, which no doubt they will end up thrashing or selling when they realize that the upkeep is more than what they bargained for. I'm not a land owner, but I stand my ground, they deserve nothing. Not even a pot plant or a lawn. You want to own a house? Work for it like everyone else is doing this century. There lies your pride & dignity. There's nothing noble about being a beneficiary or a charity case. It just proves that you're in capable of doing anything for yourself, except whine.

Well..here is how land redistirbution destroys economies

1.Many of these farmers took loans to develop their farms. If the farms are seized sans compensation....who pays the loans? Banks lose big time

2.Many of them farmers employ lots ofpeople. Sack the farmers....hundreds , thousands even lose jobs and salaries. And they don't get any of the land...and they may even lose their homes. More unemployed people.

3.Many of these farms produce foods for exports. Seize the farms...the replacement farmers lack the expertise to grow the crops . As a result, exports fall, revenues to govt coffers plummet.

4.Foregin investors won't come into the country...because if govt can suddenly seize yer property without compensation....why should you invest? More jobs lost. More revenue lost.

5.Farmers pay tax. Remove them...that's a substantial bit of your tax base gone. And that includes the farm workers who pay tax as well.(see no 2).

6. Domestic food production is affected...leading to 1) scarcity of crops...economic catastrophe. 2)government has to massively import food to make up the shortfall...loss of forex, plus food prices rise because imported stuff is more expensive than local stuff.

7.People who rely on the big farmers for livelihood...ie traders, some industries,artisans, mechanics, carpenters, etc....also lose out.


It is not that simple...and I say this as someone who wishes that the original owners got their land. But sometimes...economic stability is more important than justice.

You can say what you want. Economically, it makes no sense to take land from a group of people, and redistribute same to others without compensation. Especially when same practice has failed in neighbouring Zimbabwe and even in small scale in South Africa.

BRICS members can only do so much. And if you destroy your economy to a certain level, BRICS may go back to BRIC

I really don't know. It took R40M to build, but it was gone in just two months. I 1st saw this in one page discussing things happening in the Eastern Cape, on Facebook. I thought it was untrue until people from PE confirmed it. It was called Gqebera High Sschool.

Lol, so people can go slaughter a sheep there? We're slowly going that direction. In Queenstown people took their cattle to city in protest. Where does that happen? It's almost like we're in one of those fabled tales that gogos used to tell near the fire. An entire school was stolen in PE. Stripped down to the foundation. They didn't even leave a nail behind! Poof! Gone just like that! Everything happening at the moment is so unbelievable. Very heartbreaking to watch.
